Been by this bar and restaurant plenty of times but never ate here. Decided to try it today. First tried the Hennessy's lemonade which was very good and quite strong. Decided to try the shepherd's pie for dinner, but it was disappointing. The shepherd's pie tasted like it was chilli with some peas added and covered in mashed potatoes and there were no chunks of meat as you would expect in traditional shepherd's pie. It was a nice atmosphere and there was live music although it was on the patio and not in the restaurant where I was sitting. I'd come again for drinks but probably stay away from the food menu. read more

Went over to Hennessey a few nights ago for burgers... first time dining there after the pandemic ... we used to go there on Tuesdays pretty regularly but it was disappointed a few nights ago. All new faces at the restaurant, didn't recognize any of the servers in the past... and our server is not attentive and super slow on everything! Had to ask her multiple times in order to get something... the burgers were still decent but definitely need to work on customer service. read more

The Irish bar for the American Irishman. Visited this local hot spot in Sept 2020. Guinness on tap to fulfill the Irish in you, but tons of other beers on tap and drinks the bartender will whip up for you. Bar food...but wait, the California Citrus salad, salmon subbed for the chicken, was really good. Given the Novel Virus situation, I just ordered this for take-out and enjoyed it thoroughly at home the next day because I had already eaten. Plenty of outdoor seating; though as typical in OC, there were some congregants in the indoor part socializing with the staff. This is one of the few places open til later during the pandemic, so was thankful for that as well. We are on a mission to go to every Hennessey's Tavern in California. This one is our 6th and it all started back in 1982. We are seriously taking our time, I guess. Good service, attentive and friendly, helpful too. We happened in (accidentally) on BOGO hamburger night. Lucky us!! I had the frisco burger - grilled on sourdough with a generous amount of parmesan cheese coating the bread. The burger was cooked perfectly, and I mean perfectly. The big question? What happen? This place used to be an amazing spot and sadly the customer service was wack. We sat at the bar and we couldn't even get them to turn the channel to the basketball game. When we finally got our food (chicken wings) the wings where not the best and the sauce tasted old. The NEXT day me and my partner both got SICK with food Poisoning. We both determined it had to be Hennessy since it was the last place we ate, and after looking at the reviews and another person also getting food poisoning within the same week, it only makes sense. It was going well and we were having a great time until two random guys tried to start a fight with me. I didn't engage and did everything I could to avoid a fight but they kept following me around and getting into my personal space. Eventually this caught the attention of the staff and after giving an explanation, my friends and I were the ones that got thrown out while the aggressors were not. For bar food, this place rocks! It has more than bar food though of course. But I have to say everytime I have been here, either for breakfast, lunch or dinner or a snack and beer it has beenand consistently yummy. It isn't five star cuisine, but always hot and fresh. Yet whenever I come here to eat and visit with family and or friends I am not let down. This is a big restaraunt and there a tons of seating options. The heaters were on outside and you can bring your dog if you sit outside. We sat inside. The waitress was nice and the food was good. The four stars are for the reliability of the food, it isn't necessarily 5 star food, but it is served hot and fast and with a smile. Service is important to me, when I decide to spend my money to eat out. I try to base my reveiws on aspects of the place, food, service and all. I liked this place, small chain but really friendly the bar tender both nights we stopped in was attentive and gave good pours, and there were these pretzel things garlic and butter and overall made me want to stop watching my weight and eat enough carbs to power a small midwest town... or a medium street in Los Angeles. Yum! I love Hennessey's! I prefer this location to laguna and SJC because parking is easy! We sat ourselves on the patio this afternoon and enjoyed a $20 bottle of champagne and listening to the band! 2 of us ordered the chicken tenders and the boys had the burger of the month and pretzel burger. I love their chicken tenders! The food was fresh and the band was great! We wanted the peach sangria carafe for $20 but we were told they didn't have it and only had glasses of it which was odd... oh well. I know we will be back! read more

We both ordered something different and the food here is always delicious. I dont drink often anymore or go to bars much. But when i do i always have fun. Great bar tenders and servers here. My experience at Hennessy's was awful. The employees are childish and disrespectful. I had a buddy that hadn't drank in 3 years due to medical reasons spit up a bit in the trash can and get kicked out. The bartender was begging the bouncers to let us stay but their egos got in the way. Somehow our tax dollars empowered them as military members to kick us out. Common sense was thrown out and we had to deal with cocky communists. If you want to have fun, go to a different bar. read more

As I asked for bill to pay, I was told by the waitress there was a $2 charge for food. We never order food, just drinks. We did not see other patrons ordering food nor eating food. Why do I do this to myself, I need to stop going to large chains like this I generally leave disappointed or disgruntled. This Saturday night I walked out disgusted with myself for not speaking up and for the restaurant for allowing so many levels of low standards. Our waitress was fine she was doing her job, but not very knowledgeable about the menu, I asked what IPA's they had and was served a semi warm Pale Ale. Whatever not a big deal, but the seating was seat yourself and so we did, but the table was dirty so if It hadn't been visibly dirty we wouldn't have know it wasn't sanitized between customers. In the semi outdoor bar area I was the only person wearing mask, including the bartenders and waitstaff, I was in there because I got lost looking for the restroom. My food was awful. I ordered the beyond burger and specified I was vegan so no animal protean mayo cheese, vegan bun etc. My food arrived not very warm and my friends food was cold she got a San Fancisco burger the patty was cold and the fries were warm. I asked for ketchup and mustard when she hadn't brought requested items with the meal and I noticed the bun was shiny. This is an indication that the bun has butter. I mention it to her she says no it does have any dairy, I ask her to confirm, I'm lactose intolerant. she comes back tells me it does have dairy and will get it replaced. I finally get it back, while she gets credit for giving me new fries the she put the burger on a new gluten free/vegan bun. yes i know I am a pain in the ass vegan, but seriously the low standards of sanitation are what pushed this into a 1 star review, I have low expectations when I get stuck going to chains that are geared to omnivores so the crappy food is just 1 part of the problem. read more

Very disappointing. Been coming here with friends after soccer for years. Unfortunately, it's the only place open late in Dana Point. It's an Irish pub. How can an Irish pub be out of Guinness. They advertise Thursday nite $6 smash burgers. Last few weeks they are out of meat, so I ask can you make it with Turkey, chicken or even non meat. They said sorry no. I love the breakfast here! All the bartenders are super nice and really good at making drinks. When we were here I was able to get a bottle of champagne with our breakfast for only $20. It was a really good deal for two people. The outside is dog friendly so I was able to bring my puppy with me too! Really cool atmosphere for everyone. read more

Do NOT go here if you care about your health or the health of others. They are not following CDC guidelines and should be shut down. We were going to come in on Saturday but noticed that they were operating as a bar with no food service. Not a single person was wearing a mask, not even the bartenders. We walked in wearing our masks and it almost seemed we were shamed by the staff and patrons for wearing masks. Felt extremely uncomfortable and opted to leave right away. It's a shame there are people still operating restaurants and bars outside of the cdc and health guidelines. It is like you are paying to get COVID by going to this establishment. The draw has to be the pub vibe, drinks and live music. Because it just can't be about the food. At least, not the fare offered recently. Even though there were people at only three tables, the order came out lukewarm. The only way that could've happened is poor communication between the kitchen and the server. No excuse for it to have sat there long enough to have gotten cold before it was served. At that, only about half of it was edible. A table knife couldn't manage to cut through the leathery parmesan "crust" on the burger bread. The burger patty itself was fine but the rest was not. Disappointing for the price. Food: I came here on a Monday evening after work to celebrate my friend's birthday. I got there super early in time for some of the happy hour appetizers. I wasn't interested in the cheap beers, so I stuck with Guinness, my go to beer, while waiting for my friend to show up. I also tried their Meatball Sliders and Blackened Crab & Fish Cakes. They were both pretty decent. When my friend showed up, I ate with her and her family. I ordered the Dublin Burger. It came with fries. That was a great burger! I would definitely try out their other burgers if I ever come back down here. Service: Service was pretty good. Other servers will check up on you if it even remotely looks like nobody had been helping you. Location: Parking was pretty decent, but I was there on a Monday evening. I've been here a few times. Burgers, potato skins, desserts have all been awesome, and they have a respectable selection of tasty brews. This place is an interesting mix of dive and modern. Wandered in the other day, and there was no host or signage, but we were told to sit wherever, and once we did, a server quickly came over and got our visit going. Another couple came in a while after us. They expressed some bewilderment on what they should do, and I explained that they could sit wherever. They did, and they were quickly attended to, but nonetheless, a sign during less-busy hours would go a long way to helping patrons know what to do. But service has always been fine in my experiences. This time we ordered nachos. There was a hair, but we're not squeamish, so we removed it and dove right in. The chicken tasted off, and we ended up with mild food poisoning symptoms within the next 12 hours. The menu is modern, but the bathrooms are divey. I'll likely be back again, but will probably not order anything with grilled chicken. read more

We stoped by for a quick bite and a drink after a movie and really enjoyed Hennessey's! Unfortunately, the live music had just wrapped up so we will have to go back another weekend. It's great that they offer live music during the day as we typically find it only being offered in the evenings at most places. Our server was attentive and the ambience was nice. We each ordered a mule drink and split the potato nachos. The drinks were okay and the nachos were good. The music would have made it perfect.
