I came here for the 1st time this past weekend to pick up my 5k and half marathon packets. It is a beautifully designed interior of the building. There are so many different rooms and a coffee shop in the center of two of the main event rooms. Very easy to get around and clear signs! Definitely looking forward to coming to a bigger convention here. read more

I had a 3 day conference here. The location is perfect - centrally located, near many hotels, near the riverwalk with views and many bars/restaurants right there. The conference center itself was clean and well organized with great signage and layout for everything without being so expansive that its hard to get between things. The staff was all good and the food was actually pretty good for convention center standards. read more

I spent a good amount of time here at a 3-day conference, and it was a really nice venue. Well organized, clean, not terribly freezing inside, and clearly secure, which I, for one, appreciated quite a bit. The acoustics were great, the catered food was tasty, the bathrooms were clean and orderly, and the staff members were nice. Attended the inaugural, FIRST EVER Ulta Beauty World event on Saturday, 4/26/25!! I was so excited when I had learned about the event and for having it in San Antonio was very surprising but so very special! For Ulta to think about this city is phenomenal and I felt honored to be a part of it. I had mentioned it to some friends but because there was a $100+ admission fee, most were hesitant. I told them there'd be a SWAG bag worth $1k according to their emails & announcements on various Social Media channels but most didn't want to spend that much. Only one of my friends was game. Well let me tell you, it was like I was in Beauty Heaven or like the Vegas of Beauty Events! We got there a little after 10am as my friend was coming down from Austin and when we were looking for parking at the Convention Center garage, it was full so we had to drive around to find other lots that would be close to $15/day. We ended up finding outdoor parking behind the Convention Center near the loading docks and it was more like $7/hour. I think it took a good 8-10 minutes to walk to the front. The place is so huge that you're walking long city blocks. At least there wasn't a lot of traffic esp. since it was the beginning of Fiesta. We entered the doors and the check-in stations were set up easily and we didn't even have a bag check. Large bags, backpacks and roll-on luggages were allowed. I thought they allowed any sized bags just because they were being generous. Little did I know that in many vendor booths, they were giving out full sized products!! Insane!! The check-in was swift since we got there an hour after they opened. The attendants were thorough and specific and so were the attendants for the main Exhibition Center area. Our first stop was to get a free felt cowboy hat that you could embellish with ribbons and beads, sequins, pins but we didn't want to waste our time decorating. The same with the tote that was given upon check-in that had the Ulta Beauty World San Antonio label on the front along with our passports that would be stamped at each vendor station. Our next stop was Perk Ave. Cafe that gave out a large Pink Insulated Tumbler, a free iced coffee canned drink, a free external charger in a case & a koozie. We ended up using the bathroom before hitting the main hall. The bathrooms were very clean and seemed modern and new? I was impressed. Attendants showed us where there were food stations down the hall. When we entered the main hall, it was huge and impressive. There were supposedly over 150 vendors and the way they laid out their stations with gigantic signage, flashing lights, high-energy music playing, was a little overwhelming. We ended up trying the first stop at CosRX and after a skincare consultation, got full sized products in a small bag. We had passports that showed what vendors were there so we had an idea of who to hit but the map given was so tiny that we ended up just looking up at the banners to find out where to go. People were polite, vendors were very patient amidst the crowds, women were polite even if you saved a space for a friend(s) and generally everyone was there to have a good time, friendly and we'd ask each other where they went and what was given? We'd be standing in line & someone would have a big tote bag, colorful duffle or pretty bag so it was cool to see and share info. Later in the day, once we hit the perimeters of the vendor areas, it didn't seem as overwhelming. The aisles were laid out wide enough so you weren't bumping into each other. About 4 hours into the event, I got hungry so I was able to get a $10 Pepperoni Pizza in the food hall just outside the event hall. The line went fast. There was ample seating and choices for grab and go sandwiches and salads. They had free iced water stations with plastic cups by the tables. By the last hour, there was an announcement for last call to get your Swag Bag so everyone lined up outside the main hall. Attendants guided the attendees to form a narrower line for efficiency and vendors were handing out free sparkling water energy drinks as we were leaving. I think there were about 1,000 who registered. I spoke to a gal while waiting for pizza and she worked for an agency & was reviewing the event. I saw posts for Influencers online after the event and makekup artist vloggers. All in all it was a great, once-in-a-lifetime event and I never felt like it was too crowded like other conventions. Uniformed police were also visible so that was assuring. read more

This place is big. I mean, really big. So big that if you arrive at one end but you meeting is at the other end, you might need to add an extra 10 minutes in travel time to get you there. If you're counting your steps, you should probably come by this place. The location is quite nice, there on the Riverwalk. If you're coming to town for an event here and get a hotel near the Riverwalk, you won't really need a car -- you can get to this place, hotels, and tons of restaurants on the Riverwalk without ever needing to worry about parking anything any where. Tabled here recently for San Japan, and it was my first time experiencing a Texas Convention! The convention center space was very spacious, clean, and beautiful! I really admired the layout of the area and appreciated the various bathrooms throughout the venue. Would gladly return again if the opportunity arises! read more

No WIFI - are you kidding me? Pack it together and fix this issue. People who rent out this center count on WiFi service. If it goes down you need a back up plan. What a low rent facility to not take care of something so basic. Too much money spent to not have this addressed. read more

We attended the Oddities and Curiosities expo here and it was the perfect space for such a large event. I had attended the World Oddities Expo at the Freeman Colosseum expo hall a month prior and that space was way too small for the vendors and the attendees. We were in Hall B for the Oddities and Curiosities expo and from the in-processing to the indoor set up, the use of the space was superior to our Freeman Colleseum experience. They had lots of food vendors set up around the parameter of the space (bartenders too) and plenty of clean bathrooms inside the hall and out. The location of this convention center is convenient because it is in the heart of downtown San Antonio which allows you to further explore the city for a meal or sightseeing. The convention center itself is beautiful, pristinely clean, and incredibly spacious inside. I'll admit to being a bit intimidated of going given my anxiety around downtown parking, however we took an uber which took the edge off and made the whole experience pleasant and stress-free. read more

This convention center is huge and beautiful. I was here for a week for business. The Riverwalk runs through below. All the staff were amazing. Excellent service. Appreciated the convention center for going green. Impressed with their special events staff that served more than 3,000 attendees for lunch located on the third floor. The Grant Hyatt, Marriott and Hilton were all located just minutes away. Love the tidbits of history wall. Cheers! read more

Was here for the AOA's annual OMED convention in mid-September 2024. The convention hall was better than most. The food was quite good relatively speaking and comparing to other convention halls. (Most convention food is horrible). The staff was very friendly and helpful. They were better than other places I have been for conferences. It sits at the end of the Riverwalk and has three hotels within walking distance. The Grand Hyatt is the closest but it doesn't connect very well to the hall and would be better if there was a direct entrance. Additionally, there are two Marriotts. The Marriott riverwalk is the closer of the two and requires only crossing one street. The second Marriott is the Marriott Rivercenter. This property is a little bit bigger and actually has its own conference center attached. It is also connected to a large mall for shopping. Typically most convention centers are freezing cold and I felt that the temperature was set very well for my liking. I had no issues. Overall it was a decent hall. The area along the riverwalk attracts a lot of tourists and hence it also attracts homeless and some not-so-good riff raff at night. I didn't feel unsafe but definitely recommend that you stay aware of your surroundings. read more

As far as Convention Centers go, this one is pretty good. There are lots of nearby hotels (some cities are terrible for this) and was pretty easy to navigate. It wasn't so big that it took forever to get around (like Orlando and Las Vegas), but it was big enough for some larger shows. The bathrooms were clean even as the evening approached, so kudos to the staff for keeping up with a bunch of dude missing the bowl and eliminating the Tex Mex from the night before. There weren't many food options outside of the catering provided by the event, but that could be due to how the event was handled. For something close and quick, good luck! You can venture down to the River Walk or hit Yard House or Denny's close by. It may be hot, so if you're on a break, you may return to the convention center a bit gamey. It seems like a popular place as I've been here twice in two years for various things. I hope we head somewhere else for our annual summer trade shows, though. Texas in the summer is hot! read more

Beautiful and spacious convention center. I was here for my graduation. I was very pleased with the flat fee all day parking garage. It was only $15 a day on the weekend. Just a few blocks away by the Alamo, the uncovered lot is $30! Insane. read more

The staff that served our food were very nice, expedient, and attentive to everyone's needs. Probably the best part of this convention center is the location. This convention hall is as big as any I've ever been inside. It allowed us to have all of our classes and lectures in one place. We were able to go to the loft and have a mixer, and floors full of exhibits too. It was smoke free environment, which was a huge change from Vegas, our previous venue. I liked that we could go out the door right to the river walk as well. You can walk everywhere. Though they had the scooters and a boat for the river. There are a lot of restaurants open really late for choices to eat after the convention. I'm glad I'll be back this year. read more

I've attended several events at the Henry B. Including conferences, a wedding, and health fairs. Overall the updated space is roomy and modern. Take your walking shoes because you will be doing some serious steps to get to the main conference area. Also, there's a $4 lot close to the mall, compared to the $10 close by. I didn't mind the extra steps to save some cash on my 3 day conference. The great thing is that the conference center is in downtown SA. close to plenty of restaurants, River center Mall and not far from The Alamo. read more

I was here in December for a large Pokemon tournament. It's massive, even when compared to other convention centers. It was clean and well maintained. It's within walking distance of a diverse array of restaurants, the River Walk and a high end shopping mall. I didn't at any point feel unsafe walking around the area. read more

I was just here for the Science of Toxicology show March 12-14. Nice convention center located on the Riverwalk. Modern, clean, airy, large, well lit, and air conditioned this roomy convention center is the perfect spot for any small to mid-sized to larger conference or trade show. Just steps from all kinds of bars and eateries on the Riverwalk, and not all that far from the airport, it offers a convenient spot to attend a biz event. The only drawback with attending a show here is that there are very few direct flights to the northeast. if coming from NYC be prepared to layover somewhere such as Chicago, Dallas, or Charlotte for 1.5 - 2 hours or close to that. Still, it's one of my fav spots to attend a conference. The location on the Riverewalk can't be beat. read more

Alright, so the convention center in Houston has spoiled me, because I feel its strength- that the Henry B Gonzalez Convention Center lacks- is its ease of navigation. Hence, it's a very nuanced three as there are things that this convention center does right, but the ability to move from one floor to the next takes away from it. First, the strengths. I would say this beats the George R. Brown convention center as it has much more space to lounge and it seems better equipped for people needing to take a break to sit and rest. The restrooms are also prettier than the one in Houston. Because its the convention center in San Antonio, the rooms are of course prettier, more elegant, and the outside is charming as it's San Antonio. The space is also huge. I would be amazed if you couldn't hold 2 to 3 different conventions here at the same time. With wings and just a crazy layout you can keep conventions away if it was say the Dallas Cowboy fanclub versus the Houston Texans fanclub, versus the New England Patriots fanclub. Yes, I think you could give each fan club it's own spacious event, while giggling at all three. Why a three? The layout. The stupid layout. Yes, this place is huge, but its huge like a labyrinth. With George R. Brown, I know how to find a room and the signs generally take me to the right direction. Depending on where you are in the Henry Gonzalez center you'll have to sometimes use a specific elevator to get to a certain section on the third floor, and that's not clear. When looking for a room on the second floor, I ended up on some epic hidden executive suite, with the folks looking at me like I crossed some CIA threshold. Obviously, that wasn't my intention. So look, if I'm ending up on executive suites that are meant to be private and not finding the rooms on the second floor, because I have to use a specific escalator that can only reach that specific second/third floor hall...that's pretty crazy. Otherwise, the place looks lovely, but expect to get a little bit disoriented. read more

Moved to SATX in September and have seen this building nearly 30 times and finally had a reason to go, CATTLE CON 2020! The facility is enormous, modern, and beautiful inside. You can't beat the location as it is central to everything. If you ever have a chance to go inside, do it! I can see that plenty of amazing events will be coming here in the coming years. My favorite part of the convention center is having the River right there! Just perfectly situated in the city. read more

I have accidentally stumbled into the convention center while walking the Riverwalk. There is a section of the Riverwalk that goes through the convention center. Today....I intentionally stopped on by for PAX South 2017. The convention center is a very large facility that had a huge exhibition hall on the first floor. There were many rooms inside. The bathrooms on the first floor near the Main theatre were clean and in good shape with the amount of crowds of people that attended I am shocked. The cafe area was packed with people! We ended up going outside to Broken Crust to get a slice of pizza. They had a nice outdoor seating area. Just like any other venue, the food is going to be expensive. $5 for a slice of pepperoni or cheese pizza and $4 for bottled soda. The pizza was not warm. It works when you're starving! I wish the convention center parking garage wasn't full. I ended up following signs to park further away for $10. The PAX signs pointed us to a surface lot on Cherry St and Shadrach. This is about half a mile away from the convention center. The walk was not bad, but be sure to get there early for convenient parking in the convention center garage! read more

I have been to my fare convention centers in my time, this is one of my favorites! Amazing location, so close to so many hotels, parking and restaurants...super modern fixtures and bathrooms. Plus there are so many bathrooms, never a line. Extremely clean. The staff here is top notch, very helpful and pleasant. Free wifi is always a bonus. So much room in the exhibition halls and even in the smaller rooms.... very nice surprise at how big these "smaller" rooms are. There are a few places inside t grab a bite to eat, I recommend the cafe, great food and decent prices. Everything here in Texas is always bigger and this place is no exception. read more

One of the nicer convention centers I have been to in a while, especially the exhibit floor, which was very spacious and had good padded flooring for the day I was there. Where it lost some stars was the poor layout and not sticking to policy. I found it very odd that the second floor was split; you basically have to go up to the third floor and back down to get to some of the second floor rooms. At least it helped me get my steps in. Also, prior to attending, was given a long list of pandemic safety protocols: masks required, hand sanitizer available, cleaned rooms after each session, etc. Masks were definitely not required or I really should say, the rule was not being enforced, despite signs everywhere that said it was and all staff were masked. The room cleaning only was for the speakers area and the communal microphone, nothing else was wiped down between. At least there was sanitizer available. Just a bit disappointing, since that communication played a large role in my decision to attend this conference. read more

This place is huge! Three floors of space.. You can get a decent workout just trying to walk the entire place. This convention center looks almost brand new. The staff here are a bit of a miss and they smile but don't utter a word. One thing I didn't like is that lunch was served from 11:45 AM to 1:30 PM but at around 1:00 PM,. the staff here started breaking the tables and consolidating the food. There's ample off center parking. If you can walk a block you'll end up paying $5.00 for off site parking, else expect to pay $20. read more

Attended the 103rd Annual International Association for Identification Conference here last week. The majority of our lectures, presentations, and vendor events were held here at the convention center. It's was very nice, spacious, easy to maneuver around from room to room! There were some rooms that experienced technical difficulty with the projectors and set ups but not sure on whose end the blame should be placed. Overall each lecturer dealt with the set backs pretty well and the staff were there to troubleshoot and work through it. The convention center is adjacent to the Grand Hyatt Hotel and about two blacks from the Marriott Rivercenter and La Quinta and one black from the Marriott Riverwalk. They have a market on the first floor which is a little pricey but you pay for convenience! read more
