A couple years ago, my friend's family recommended Henry's Auto Repair to me after I was struggling to find affordable, quality services for my car. Since then, I have relied on Henry's Auto to do various oil changes, brake work, AC repairs, engine work, etc. and I will go to Henry's as long as I live in San Diego. It's a 20 minute drive for me and I have several local auto shops closer to me but my choice is Henry's Auto Repair. Brian, the owner, is efficient, friendly, and honest. As many reviews have stated, Brian will NOT do any unnecessary work and will always make sure to call, give a break down on the absolute necessary work that needs to be done and gives you a reasonable price. My last car was a 2006 Subaru with chronic issues and Brian's rates were consistently better in comparison to other shops every single time. Throughout the process of repairing my cars, he has called me, given me updates, and double checked with me of any unexpected extra charges he might have to add based on the repair process. I sincerely trust this business and feel comfortable just dropping off my car and receiving the bill later. I know I won't be scammed or taken advantage of and my car is in great hands. Both my mom and I have been taking our cars to Brian for well over a decade, and he is really the only person I trust to not try and rip me off (especially as a woman). Recently, I took my car to a different place (just to ask them to run the code because my own code reader was not giving me the code). The other shop owner mansplained to me how Mercedes are more difficult to diagnose and repair than other cars (as if I haven't owned a Mercedes for a decade and don't know anything about cars) and wanted to charge me $185 to run the codes. I obviously left and took it to Brian (I only took it to the other guy to run the code as I was driving by). Brian ran the code immediately at no charge, did not mansplain anything to me (and never does), and explained that his own code reader was not picking up the code because there was an electrical issue, so I would need to leave the car for a few hours on a different day for him to diagnose the problem. We worked out a time for me to bring the car back, I did, and Brian's guy figured out the issue. They made the repairs, I took the car home, and then, I drove somewhere that evening and the check engine light came back on. Brian told me to bring it back, and he looked into the issue and fixed it same day at no extra charge. Pros: 1. Brian is fair and trustworthy. He will not rip you off. 2. Brian is the kind of guy who values good customer service. If you are one of his customers that he knows, he will often do tiny, fast things for you for free that other places would charge for. 3. Brian can do any kind of maintenance on luxury cars. 4. Brian is fast. 5. Can pay by card. Notes: 1. Every time you talk to Brian, it will sound like it's the busiest day of his life and seem kind of chaotic, but that's because he's good, and because he's good, he is very busy. You may also need to call and kind of check in with him on your car. When I call, I also say my name everytime because I have no idea if he has caller ID, and when I say my name, I'm always impressed/shocked he remembers who I am because I'm sure so many people go to him for their cars! 2. Because things with Brian are done a little more informally, the service done there will not show up on your Carfax report like it would if you took it to a dealership. 3. You won't get your car back with a car wash like you would with more expensive places/dealerships, but you are also paying way less, so to me, that is worth it. I can drive my car through the car wash myself with the money I'm saving! I 12/10 recommend Brian for anyone looking for a trustworthy place to get their car fixed. read more

My usual smog place recommended this spot. This shop was able to perform the smog and pass. My only issue was the lack of care that this shop treated my car with. The guy who drove my car crashed it into the side of their garage leaving the light blue paint of their garage onto my bumper. Fortunately, there wasn't any new visible damage besides the (vibrant baby blue) paint transfer in the attached photo. What struck me the wrong way was the guy just pretended nothing happened. Another customer waiting behind me watched it all happen and we were both shocked. It looks like they fix cars well but I was very disappointed in the treatment of my vehicle even if it's an old car. While I was waiting for my smog I was watching the guy they had driving the customers cars, he would keep the drivers door propped open and leave his leg just hanging out so that he could exit the car quickly. The whole situation felt very surreal to me and I didn't want to make a big deal. Maybe they had an off morning. Hopefully your experience is better and much more professional. Save your money and go elsewhere. Came in for a check engine light, they insisted on changing my front axel that didn't need to be fixed. Apparently they did a "smoke test" & changed the cap for the engine oil. AGAIN all this unnecessary && they did NOT fix the check engine light. They advised they didn't know what the problem was and if they can keep the car for a few days to run more test..... horrendous experience with unnecessary repairs. Long story short I went to a mechanic shop in Barrio Logan that was recommended from a friend. Within 2 hours the new shop diagnosed the problem and fixed the check engine light. You want it fixed?" The magic words! He quickly pulled it in to assess and told us it would be ready today and what the issue was, as well as how much. 8:15 we were out of there, to finish up the day. 5pm I was back at the shop picking up my car! I mean , first thing first EXPENSIVE, for it to be faulty, Took my car to another LEGIT mechanic and was charged less and told me the repair they did was no good, went back , couldn't get a refund was rude about trying to fix it, now do I trust him to do it again? Hell no. Couldn't even get refunded for ATLEAST the part, ( I totally understand not getting refunded the labor) but not even for the part, I had to pay someone else. I had a good experience with this business. Had an oil leak repaired and had a coil and 6 spark plugs replaced recently on my 2010 BMW 535i. They were good at keeping me informed after I dropped my car off to be analyzed for repair.
