This place is ok. Everytime I "run in" knowing I'm paying an extra price for so-so fast food, I am disappointed. I picked up some hot bbq chicken legs from the deli area as a quick bite, and when returned to my office, it was pork. Today, I picked up a Boar's Head tuna, lettuce, and tomato sub. Again, returned to my office, to find tuna and lettuce only, which made the sandwich taste gluey. The grilled chicken at the salad bar is gristly, so skip that if you need a protein on your salad, and the bacon is chewy. I keep having faith that I'll find something to repeat for lunch, but this isn't winning me over. Think I'll stick with Panini. read more

I've been shopping at Henry's for years, before they were taken over by Crosby's. I like their prepared foods very much. However, it is their bakery that I want to compliment. Several months back, I was browsing the bakery when a very helpful staff member asked me what I was looking for, to which I replied I was looking for picnic cake (yellow cake with vanilla frosting). The staff member went in the back and got one for me! Then on my recent visit, once again I was browsing the bakery area and found a yellow cake with strawberry frosting. A different helpful staff member asked what I was looking for, and when I described the picnic cake, went in the back, brought out a yellow cake, and frosted it for me while I waited. "Would you like the frosting to say anything?" I was asked. "That will only get in the way", I replied. Thank you for your wonderful staff members, Henry's. Such an enjoyable shopping experience! This place has so many unique prepared foods, snacks, and sweet treats! We love the chicken pot pie and chicken cutlets! It is the perfect on-the-go stop if you don't have time to prep dinner or if you need to bring something to a party! It's a bit pricey but High quality so in my opinion that balances out. They carry many local brands but also have a good amount of regular supermarket products! Can't forget a good beer and wine selection too! We love Henry's! read more

When I read Andrea A.'s review I was confused, I thought she might have an 'old person' fetish or something. Then I went to Henry's and it all came together. You know the strong strong perfume that grandmothers sometimes wear? The kind non-grandmothers tend not to wear b/c it is very strong and 'perfumey'? Well that's what you'll whiff while walking down the isles here. It was filled with elderly people doing their shopping, chatting w/ the meat man about their medication changes, you get the picture. It was my first time in this store and it really was a neat experience. The produce was a bit pricey and did not look that great but they had other things that really made up for it. They had, over by the yogurts etc, some products that the Big A market in Manchester, NH has, some organic chickpea etc etc items that I am happy to know exist in MA also. They had more prepared foods than I have ever seen. Different kinds of Pot Pies (none of which I could eat but it was still neat to see), butternut squash ravioli, lasagnas, pre-made sauces, really, they had a TON of prepared things. Their bakery also looked pretty good, though we did not get anything. I left with a couple potato pancakes (they were not great but ok), a small amount of gnochi in red sauce (also not great but I am picky w/ my gnochi), the organic chick pea salad thing (so good), and some tzatziki (i love you). this place reminds me of the market I used to go to in Arlington w/ my grandmother when I was little. The first time I went into Henry's, maybe a year and a half ago, I wanted to make pizza and I was looking for Semolina flour. I picked up a few things, didn't find the flour and went to check out. The cashier asked, 'did you find everything ok?' I said, 'no...' and in the end, the store manager made a few phone calls, then directed me to Gloria Foods, where they had the semolina flour. Bottom line? Henry's understands customer service like some neighborhood place in an old movie. You can ask the butcher for a good cut of meat and get it, the staff at the deli counter can tell you the difference between two brands of cold cuts. They carry hard to find items in all varieties and especially have one of the best cheese selections in the area. Not the largest, but the best. Fresh bread from local bakeries. Organic and free range meats and poultry. We're lucky to have this place in town. read more

this is probably the sexiest grocery store of all time. gourmet as all hell. gorgeous meats. cheeses that make you want to cry tears of heaven. pretty produce galore. prepared-to-perfection foods. lovely baked items. you stop here before going to an event and you show up the instant master of the friggin ceremonies. this is totally the place to shop if you want to impress people. i LOVE showing up at a party and someone pulls in with the henry's steak tips. stopped by to pick up some pastries and sweets for a work function and let me tell you, they were by far, exceptionally well prepared and so spot on, that it looks like they were from the Food Channel. I worked here as a bagger/cashier combo back in 1999, and grew up less than half a mile from the place so I maybe a bit Bias. I do love it here, even though it has gotten pretty pricey over the last five years or so. The Chicken pot pie and the Chicken Salad in particular have gotten ridiculously expensive. If you look past the prices the food is great. The bakery is amazing, whether you want only a tast and get a slice of cake, or you stop by in the morning for a donut for breakfast. They also have great cookies, I always buy a bag and bring them back to work where they quickly disappear. The meat maybe expensive but it is good, and they are always there to help you if you want more of something or advice. They do carry the standard groceries at a significant markup, the only positive is they are always stocked up. I went to shaws down the street on Sunday and couldn't find a 2 liter bottle of sprite, I know that they would have had it at Henrys. Overall a great place to pick upa quick hoem made dinner or anything you may have forgotten at the big grocery store. read more

Love Henrys chicken pot pies. I like their speciality foods in the prepared section or their baked goods. The chicken salad is one of the best on the North Shore. The store is small, so don't expect everyday items to be cheap, but if you need milk, eggs, etc. they have that. The wine shop next door has a huge variety. Herny's is a small food store with prepared foods and one of the best bakeries . Always well staff and they do have hand sanitizer everywhere. The Bakery is one of the best around with excellent and huge donuts, cakes and fancy pastry. Produce: is average nothing special, could more some more local and organic. Meat: Decent and high quality but overpriced. Grocery: small and not cheap. They sell Puleo's milk which is great just wish they sold it in plastic too, Just glass bottles. It is great store you do have to be willing to pay $$$$ extra, they do not have any specials or sales. Do beware they do NOT make donuts on Sundays. read more

I started coming to Henry's with my infant daughter Jessica propped up in the shopping cart. At the time, a cashier named Marilyn used to make such a fuss over her and so I brought her in regularly. Jessica is now in her late 30s and my husband, working in Peabody, is the one who regularly does the shopping at Henry's. But when I find myself in north Beverly, I'll stop in. Over the years it's gotten better, if that is possible. I've shared this thought with others: What do Henry's Market, Ford Motor Company, and pantyhose have in common? Answer: They get better with time. Think about it--can you say that about anything else in life? Now I hope their new venture, The Wenham Tea House, will shine. I only wish my mother in law was still with us. She was a regular for years. In fact, in 1917 she and my father in law, originally from Ohio, visited the tea house on their honeymoon. At the last minute I decided to cater a surprise 50th party for 40+ people. I called Henry's and they were incredible. I am very picky and always like to make my own salads etc., but I was running out of time. I tried all the salads ahead of time and loved all of them. The springtime coleslaw, red potato salad, grilled vegetables, fruit salad (of my choice) and the antipasto plate. All were delicious and came ready for serving or ready for my own decorative bowls. I also got 10 pounds of marinated steak tips which everyone raved about. I had everything delivered to my house in Gloucester. It was on time and delivered by a really nice guy who I wish i had tipped, but I was so frazzled, that i forgot. He put everything in my refrigerator and even brought a bouquet of flowers! All in all, I highly recommend Henry's Market in Beverly. They have never disappointed me and I have very high standards. I'm use to shopping at Whole Foods and Sudbury Farms, so as I am new to the area, I was thrilled to have found Henry's. read more

I'm very late in making this review but my 9th wedding anniversary is approaching and I have been thinking about the day. Henry's catered my event and the food was amazing. My sister got married two months before with another venue and their main meal was suppose to be heavy appetizers with a small Buffett dinner for those that needed more. Let me just say that Henry's had more appetizers than hers with a full luncheon which was meant to be the full meal. More importantly the food was amazing, i still get compliments on it. In addition they threw in a free wedding cake. Was it a very fancy one that you pay a lot for, no. But let me tell you it was more delicious and my guest agreed. I highly recommend them. Not worth the trip up 1A in traffic as Crosby's takeover of Henry's in February has removed the former old world charm to that of an ordinary small grocery shop. All the attractive basket displays of fruits and cheeses are gone; tacky price signs hang over many items, and the meat suppliers have been changed too. Henry's provided catering (delivered food only, no servers) for our family reunion in Nahant: six meals over two days for 20 people. The food was excellent, plentiful, and delivered on time. We had breakfast baskets with bagels, scones, and muffins; finger sandwiches for lunch; hors d'oeuvres, salads, and cheese lasagna for dinner one night; and baked haddock, mashed potatoes, and steamed vegetables for dinner the next night. Everyone commented on how good everything tasted, and although we had a lot left over, that was only because we couldn't eat another bite! The price was reasonable, too: about $10 per person per meal. We highly recommend Henry's catering! read more

Ok so my wedding was last month and Henry's catered it at the ELks @ Bass Rocks in Gloucester! HOLY CRAP they did the BEST possible job ever! Deedie is the best !!! I left the buffet decorations up to her and it looked AMAZING! The tenderloin was delish and when even took some home and 2 days later it was still delish!! I had a doctor's appointment nearby and I hadn't eaten breakfast, so I dropped by and was not disappointed in the least. When you walk in, there are different areas to choose from and I headed straight for the bakery! The selection was mouth-watering and impressive featuring an array of pastries, cookies, cakes, muffins and donuts. Being a carb junkie, I bought the chocolate chip muffin which was tender and yummy with plenty of dark chocolate chips to satisfy my chocolate craving. While at the counter, they had samples of lemon-filled donuts which were fresh and delish! Still hungry, I checked out the snack mix assortments and bought the energy mix featuring raisins, M&Ms, peanut butter chips and dried pineapple. Very disappointed. I've heard a lot about Henry's and was in the area and just happened to drive by and decided to go in. Bought the chicken salad and chicken croquettes. I think it was chicken salad. It was soooo mushy ..they must have shredded the daylights out of the chicken....the croquettes were a joke. They were like eating a ball of stuffing. My family has shopped at Henrys for decades. We have always loved this Market, especially the meat department. The meat department always included great meats and wonderful customer service. This has changed with the new Crosby owner. On several occasions we have noted a beef of less quality. More importantly, the once pronounced customer service is lacking. We ordered our Easter lamb days in advance, but on pick up day there was no record of our order. Again, we specified our order, and were asked to wait. We waited 45 minutes and were presented with our wrapped order. I'm sorry, I would have liked to have seen my order before it was packaged and priced. Maybe next time, you will apologize, explain the wait time and show me my order with correct weight and quality. Thank you. read more
