I want to first start out by saving I love the cakes and treats here they are so good. Back In April I had a family birthday party for my husband and cousin in law. And my husband can't have chocolate due to health issues so I had tell them no chocolate. I called the week of my event and the employee I talked to was very rude and disrespectful. I've been a years long, Market Basket shopper until recently Last week a bottle of blueberry pomegranate POM exploded all over me in the kitchen when I opened it the day after buying it. This week, the Savoy cabbage was filled with mold. Prices may be good, but not if the merchandise gets thrown out I don't know what's going on there, but something has changed. The quality of goods in the and/or the way they are handled before getting to the shelves is leading to a negative experience for this shopper. I used to love Market Basket, but no more. I shop in Danvers and Rowley and it is the same in both places. And the Danvers store is so large now that if you forget a couple of things you really get quite a workout. As an older person it's become too much for me. And when you ask for anything in the store, most employees don't speak English and cannot help you which makes it even more difficult to shop in this over large store. The best grocery store that I have been to. Visiting this store feels like a trip back in time to the early 1990s---everything from the decor, to layout, to labelling---even the prices remind me of the past. The staff are incredibly nice and helpful. I really felt like this grocery store is trying to be a part of the community, in contrast to modern mega-chains with cynical employee policies and pricing. this is one of the better market baskets overall. they have a well stocked produce section. ambiance is usually pretty busy.

The subs are freakin awesome yes sometimes you get the employee on a bad day but it happens ‍ A large cheese steak $5.99 add any topping free well I . There cheeseburgers are $3 with fries no brainer. I recommend the food deli also there Haddock chowder they put a lot of haddock in it as well as the clam chowder. If you want to wait with dozens of people, all respecting Virus guidelines, this is not the place. Just waited in line, walking past flyer after flyer saying NO exceptions to the mask requirement, only to watch the guy let a man in who was trying to pull his shirt up over his mouth. DISRESPECTFUL and unfair! I know someone who died because of the VIRUS, and soon everyone will know someone who has suffered greatly, so get some decency. Dig deep if you have to. Follow the rules. It's not too much to ask of another human being. The worker's ONLY responsibility was to make sure everyone wore a mask, and he couldn't even pull that off. And when I asked him about letting the guy in who didn't have a mask, he shrugged and then tried to shame me for speaking up. Unacceptable. read more

Love this place! Ever since they opened, the store has always been clean, well-stocked, & the employees bend over backwards to please. You cannot beat the prices! The bakery items always look beautiful & they are glad to decorate any item by request. "Hot Foods" area has many delicious hot & cold items: subs, wraps, rotisserie & fried chicken, spanikopita, soups, specials, etc. Items are either pre-made or made-to-order. Their produce is good, & there's a lovely selection of flowers. Have been very happy working w/their deli & fresh sushi departments both for personal orders, as well as, catering platters. This is my favorite Market Basket of any I've visited, and this branch single-handedly broke my long-time loyalty to Stop-n-Shop. I had dropped by Salem's MB a couple of times in years past and in spite of some low prices, the atmosphere was a turn-off. It was a zoo, and it wasn't very clean. Well, Gloucester's MB is hoppin' on weekends, but it's so brand spankin' new that I don't see how anyone could complain about the cleanliness. And the prices are significantly lower than poor old SnS's. I also like that you don't have to have a MB "card" to get the sale prices. I resent having my keychain crowded with loyalty cards. I also find MBs generics to be good quality, and the produce, meat and deli sections all are as good as the typical SnS. Since Gloucester has an Italian and Portuguese communities, the MB here has responded with a great selection of foods these good folks want. (I want 'em too!) All in all, the new MB has made Gloucester a better place to live, and so I'm their fan. read more

Went in on a Sunday evening on my way home from my parents' house. The layout was nice, the entire place was well kept and very big. The downfall: the staff was pretty flaky. The woman who checked me out was socially awkward to say the least and couldn't hold a normal 2 minute conversation. The selection was less than what I am used to at Market Basket. Went in for chip dip, and pie crust. Took me forever to find the chips and they were with the raisins? Odd. Didn't see much produce but they have a lot of prepared foods. We will probably go here a lot as it is convenient to my parents' house and open late but I just wish it was better organized. read more

This is the BEST supermarket around! There isn't any other supermarket that can match they're pricing. The only drawback is that because of the great deals, all of the products aren't always in stock. Just cuz liked an item one week doesn't necessarily mean it's going to be there next week. read more

I love Market Casket, I mean Trash Basket, oooopps Waste Basket... No Seriously. This place rocks my world, my fridge and pantry for about a week. The parking lot is odd... lots of loop de loops. Selection is fantastic. Food is cheap. It's not a third world country. People are decent. Kids work the registers and bag area so they are decently friendly. Deli still needs work though. If this is a two man shopping trip, one person can stand in line while the other shops and be done around the same time. If not, plan for about an extra 45 mins for your trip. read more

Decent stores, some are pretty nice, some are kind of a dump, and a lot are somewhere in between, especially any store that isn't brand new. Setting that aside, their prices are unmatched with some minor exceptions. Their sale prices aren't always the cheapest compared to other stores, but if you do a cost analysis of your typical basket from Market Basket and any other store Market Basket comes out on top every time. The customer service is generally quite exceptional as well, which they definitely pride themselves on. The employees' number one duty is taking care of the customer. This is not to say that there aren't some "bad eggs" that slip through the cracks. I've had my share of run-ins with some short tempered, ill-mannered, rude, or just plain unhelpful associates as all retail stores tend to have on staff, but they're definitely the minority. Overall though it's my preferred grocer, and I would go out of my way to visit one if I had to(thankfully I don't, as there are 3 in my city.) read more

I went to M. B. yesterday, looking for fresh baby spinach....as per usual....there wasn't any! There were also three other Custromers looking for the same thing. Then there was a lady searching for something else...saying that that store doesn't have anything she wants. Market Basket is getting lame! I shop there, as the prices seem lower than other stores, but if I am going to have to run around to other stores to find an item that I want to purchase, I am not saving any money at all! It seems as though, Market Basket would prefer to push their brand, so they don't want to carry other brands...in which, that will never work for me...I have my favorite brands...and nothing else will do! Very deceptive and illegal practices. Meat department was instructed to only make a handful of packages of ground beef and then told to make 50 pre -packaged beef patty packages. The purpose of this practice they continue to this day is forcing customers to pay over-inflated prices for pre made beef patty packages. Why let them pay $4 and buy the lb of ground beef they need when you can force them to pay $9.99 for that same ground beef and just because someone formed them into patties charge them double. read more

As others have said, this store could pass as anything but a Market Basket. This one is a little out of my way but its worth the drive to avoid the crowds, screaming children, geriatrics, and overall rude people that frequent the other stores. One is able to get in, get what you need, and get out. No scheming to find the quickest checkout, as lanes never seem to have more than one person waiting at any given time. If they are stocking shelves the staff is actually aware and will make sure you have room to get by, and be friendly about it. What a concept. Produce section had some really good looking offerings when compared to other stores. Some of the more ethnic items are less available (goya etc) when compared to say CHELSEA (avoid this one at all costs). The bakery and prepared food section has nice offerings as well. This is my go-to for now on. Don't bother with the riff-raff suicide mission the other stores are, and hit this one. read more

I've shopped at other Market Basket locations and have had some terrible experiences but I have to say shopping at this location is pleasant. It's never too busy, most of the time it's actually pretty mellow. The employees here are mostly friendly. I've had to ask where some items were located and a few dodos just pointed to an aisle or didn't even try to help, but those were mostly the teenagers working in the evenings and what do they care? The managers have been especially helpful. Tonight I was searching for a rare item that most grocery stores don't stock and a manager really went out of his way to help us find it. Even though we never did find the item I was impressed that he really tried his best. The cashiers are mostly friendly too. Parking isn't nearly as bad as most Market Baskets. The prices are always the cheapest in town but the selection can be somewhat weak for a major grocery store. Like all Market Baskets this location closes early, 9pm most days and 7pm and Sundays. That's a little annoying. The produce is hit and miss, I mostly avoid it because I can usually find fresher, better quality produce elsewhere. There's one minor thing that annoys me, when you first walk in hand baskets are nowhere to be found. You usually have to walk to the other end of the store or the middle of the store to grab one. It's a simple thing to fix, but for some reason all Market Baskets are set up this way. Other than that it's a good place to do your weekly shopping and save a few dollars. Other Market Basket locations just aren't worth the savings because of all the aggravation that comes with it. read more

This now the big store up on Cape Ann, just like all the other Market Baskets Which now save the people up here from driving far for provisions. Even though it is a new store it is not the cleanest and most sparkling store. There is large selection of goods at reasonable and competitive prices, lacking in organic and local products which are very minimal. It's admittedly cheap and the food is good quality. For that reason I've finally dropped stop n' shop for good and made the switch. The bakery section is awesome and the produce is decent though you do have to watch it, especially the pre-bagged stuff. That said, the place makes me crazy. Yes, it's way better than the other Market Baskets (which I won't even go to). But it's still a headache and a half to navigate. Either it's crowded with shoppers, or it's crowded with 3-4 stockers/aisle and all their accompanying boxes and carts. Trying to get through this place with 3 kids makes me want to tear my hair out. If you go at a busy time the lines and parking are just as impossible as all the others, though it is certainly less crowded in general. Love/hate relationship with this store. read more

I think it's a testimony when every time I go there, it is pretty full with other customers; and this is not the only grocery store they can go to here on Cape Ann. MARKET BASKET IN GLOUCESTER - The manager of the fish dept is rude and does not wait on customers. Many times I have gone there and stand while he's talking to another MB worker. I complained that I wanted to speak with a manager and he was the manager. Plus they think nothing of selling fish that smells rotten. I hate this store but the fish dept and manager is a joke. Many people standing there today and many walked away as he just stood there. Please hire a real person that has respect for the customer! read more

Like most of Gloucester, I was pretty excited to see a new grocery store. And, it has driven down prices across the city. Sadly, I think it put a smaller market in a nearby town out of business, but that's how business works. No matter what time you go, no matter the weather, it is always crowded. And, with no self check-out lanes you end up waiting quite a long time when there are only 3 lanes open. I go early enough that it's not a problem, however, I have encountered the rudest employee and I refuse to go to her lane so I end up waiting longer just to avoid interacting with her. I believe her name is Colleen and she's worked there since it opened up. She clearly hates her job. She doesn't interact with the customer at all- she just talks to the bagger or other employees and goes on an on about the owner, about her hours, how much she hates it there. It's very off putting. I don't want to hear that from a cashier. The worst was one day when I was trying to walk down an aisle and they were setting up the shelves so it was very narrow. Well, I was trying to walk through and she came charging at me and almost shoved me out of the way. Yikes. What happened to customer service? I'd love to officially complain about her and her attitude but you can't seem to do that on Demoula's webpages. My advice- go early, hope for bad weather ,and avoid that employee and you'll get some good deals! read more

Love this store and have been shopping there for years. The last two weeks however I have had issues with food there: Spoiled cream, spoiled uncooked turkey burgers and a cooked chicken breast I bought that was under the warmer there that was pink inside. Luckily I noticed the undercooked chicken before I started eating it. I threw these items out and hope these are just random situations- food is expensive enough and this is disappointing! Going to give the place another chance, but will go elsewhere if this happens again. read more
