When I think of a catfish poboy I think of soft toasty French bread, mayo, crisp lettuce, tomato slices, pickles, and fresh catfish dipped in cornmeal seasoned and fried HARD. Sadly that's not what I got! Imagine my surprise when I opened a sandwich with 4 unseasoned pieces of fish, chopped lettuce and tomatoes and tartar sauce. We asked if we could do half fish and shrimp. Yes but the shrimp are $1.50 EACH! Asked how many shrimp come on a shrimp poboy? 4... There was people in and out so I'm sure people love it there. 10/10 - Highly Recommend! This place is truly a one-stop shop for delicious seafood. Let me start by saying everything we ordered was fresh, piping hot, and definitely hit the spot. For appetizers, we had a cup of gumbo and fried okra. The okra was perfectly breaded and came with a side of ranch. The gumbo was served with a slice of buttery, delicious bread, such a nice touch. The flavor was good overall, though it could've used just a bit more seasoning. Still, we cleaned the bowl completely! For entrées, we ordered the catfish po' boy with a side of onion rings and the shrimp tacos. The po' boy was light but still very filling. My only suggestion would be to add a little more tartar sauce, but otherwise it was great. The onion rings were perfect, huge, crispy, and they give you plenty! The shrimp tacos were also light and well-balanced, with just the right amount of toppings and sauce. Every bite was so good... as you can probably tell from the picture...my boyfriend couldn't even wait to dig in Now for the service: the two ladies working were friendly and helpful. We came in right before closing, and they still treated us like we were their first customers of the day, which we really appreciated. As for the atmosphere, it's cute, simple, and very on-theme with seahorse decor throughout. The tables were clean and well-kept. Honestly, it looks even better on the inside than the outside. Located in a strip center between a convenience store and a coffee shop, at the west end of Seawall Blvd. It's just across from where we're staying, so we went there for lunch. Had the shrimp baskets. I believe they hand-batter the shrimp--they were very good! Our server was super-friendly, and the place is clean. For dinner, we decided to go pick up something. We both had a patty melt, and they were fantastic! Double Swiss on it, a large patty, and grilled onions. We got chips and guacamole too, and it was fresh and delicious! This is a small hole in the wall off the main strip. It was amazingly good! I have shrimp tacos and they hit the spot! My son got an XL pizza for $14 and it was huge! He's a growing boy and was hungry! He ate half the pizza and a taco. Everything we got was delicious and fresh made. The service was good too. When we walked in it was empty, but apparently the people followed us in because it quickly filled up! This is definitely worth coming too! read more

My order was Hamburger Steak dinner with Mash Potatoes and green beans. Excellent! I stopped by this restaurant because it was near where my friend owns her business. I ordered the fried Flounder sandwich. I didn't read the full description, so that one is on me. But I did note something green on top so pointed to the picture of the sandwich and said "no lettuce". When My meal was brought out, there was coleslaw on top. I mentioned to the waitress that I had asked for that not to be on the sandwich. Her response was "you asked for no lettuce, there's no lettuce". I find this extremely frustrating on a couple of levels. First I pointed at the green on the sandwich and said no lettuce. She should have clarified by saying "this sandwich comes with no lettuce, but coleslaw. Do you want the coleslaw yes or no?" Secondly, when she brought it out an I was unhappy, she shouldn't have argued but asked if I wanted a new one or could I remove the coleslaw from the sandwich." I eventually did scrape the slaw off myself and move on, but I felt like it was more of a I'm not taking this back than anything else. The sandwich was ok, I would have been better satisfied with a fish sandwich from McDonalds or Burger King. This restaurant is a small, small place. While we were sitting there a family of 10 showed up and were so loud that it ran my friend and I off. It was like being in the middle of a playground for 3rd graders where everyone is screaming at the top of their lungs. Not only could we not even talk around the noise, we couldn't even think around the noise. Improvements should be made to training of the wait staff for sure. In particular, attention should be paid to when a customer requests something not on the sandwich, the server should clarify with the guest so the mistake never takes place. I'm not sure what could have been done about the screaming family. One positive thing is that the fries were really good. read more

We enjoy trying out new places when we are working out of town. This weekend we were in Galveston's and tried the Seahorse Grill since it was near our campgrounds. Our server greeted us, spending time to visit and passing along a few recommendations. We were pretty much fried, ordering fried mushrooms as an appetizer, followed by fried shrimp with sweet potato fries and a flounder sandwich. All was delicious and brought to the table quick enough for us to enjoy our pre-meal drinks, but not so long we thought the staff forgot us. Galveston has a vibrant and diverse dining scene, and this is one of the reasons that my GS troop came to this area last summer (June 2nd, 2023) for our annual trip. There is literally something for every budget and taste. Seahorse Grill is one of those small diner/café style restaurants that offer similar values to traditional American foods. This location is tucked into a nondescript strip center at the western terminus of the Seawall. Cheery and bright, the small dining room is very welcoming. When entering the location, consumers will notice that Seahorse murals decorate the colorfully painted walls, and a large menu is posted above the cash register. This location offers many fried foods, which was ideal for the young girls who were elated to choose from the various menu items like chicken strips, fried shrimp, fried catfish, hush puppies etc. This location also offers salads, tacos, and pizza. As there were more than two handfuls of us on this visit, we sampled many things. Therefore, this review will serve as an overview of the experience we had during our visit. The food prepared here from the Birria Tacos (which isn't a typical menu item), cheese quesadillas, shrimp, and pizza are all very average. While the various menu items we ordered weren't terrible, there was nothing on the menu that was spectacular, either or one menu item that stood out above the rest. The pizza, in particular, seemed to taste as if the dough was frozen, which was sufficient for young pre-teens. The service received here was pleasant and efficient and was superior to the quality of the food. On vacation with my kids, so we decided to try this place close to where we are staying. It's a cozy place in a shopping center. They have counter to go ordering as well as full-service dining. Our service was nice as well as being very attentive. We ordered the shrimp kisses for start. The shrimp and bacon were well cooked, and the chipotle aioli had a little kick. They were served with ranch, but I didn't use it. My kids were both happy with their shrimp and chicken baskets. I ordered the catfish tacos. The catfish was fresh and perfectly cooked, and there was plenty of it. My tacos were on corn tortillas, and I love that this place also offers gluten-free crusts for their pizzas. Chicken salad is so good - has mushrooms & bell peppers added to spice it up a bit. Pizza is also really good too. Our kids love the hot dogs too.
