UPDATE: Four of us had dinner last night (14 November 2023). Dan, the general manager, invited my husband and me to try this place again to make up for my disappointment of crab cakes I had on my first visit. I ordered the salmon Florentine risotto special of the evening which included tomatoes, spinach and onions. The salmon was so tender and light, definitely not overcooked. The risotto didn't have a heavy cream sauce, which I appreciated. And just enough parmesan cheese to not overwhelm the salmon. My husband had the Hank's Mom's meatloaf, along with mashed potatoes and Brussel sprouts with bacon. He loved it all. The meatloaf, three slices, came with a side of gravy. My friends meals were very good also (Henry's amazing noodles; and a salad with blackened shrimp). Dan really stepped up to the plate to make up for our first visit. Thank you Dan! I am writing to express my disappointment regarding an incident that occurred during my recent visit to Henry's Restaurant in Wilmington, NC. During my lunch visit, I sat at the bar for approximately 20 minutes. The bartender, Megan, took my order and provided a to-go box. After paying my bill, I left the restaurant and headed to my car. At that point, Megan followed me outside and asked, "Hey, is that a zero?" in reference to the tip. I confirmed that it was. She repeated the question and then asked whether the service had been poor. I explained that it had not been, but that tipping is not an obligation. She responded by stating that she earns $2 per hour. I told her that her wages were not my responsibility, and she returned inside. I then went back into the restaurant to request a manager. Upon re-entering, Megan loudly stated, "Oh, you want to talk to my manager?" and continued to respond dismissively. The manager, Abby, eventually came out to speak with me. I explained the situation in detail; however, no apology was offered, and the concern did not appear to be taken seriously. I find it completely unacceptable for an employee to confront a customer outside the restaurant regarding a tip. This behavior felt unprofessional and inappropriate, and it reflects poorly on the establishment. Customers should never be made to feel uncomfortable or pressured over gratuities, especially when no issue with service was expressed. I have been a frequent customer and have enjoyed Henry's food for years, including celebrating special occasions there. Unfortunately, this experience has significantly changed my perception of the restaurant. I was very disappointed to learn that no corrective action was taken, as it suggests that this type of behavior is tolerated. After this incident, I will no longer be returning to Henry's. I ordered the kids shrimp meal with a salad and a French onion soup. The shrimp were absolutely delicious! The salad was also good, but I don't like the way they make the cucumber dill anymore. I had the opportunity to have lunch at Henry's this afternoon. It was highly recommended by my coworkers. They mentioned Henry's salmon was the best, unfortunately I don't care for seafood. I ordered an unsweetened iced tea, not easy to get in the south. So I was pleasantly surprised to get it! Since I was beyond hungry, I opted not to get a salad, but to try their BLT and a side of fries. The wheat bread was super tasty and so was the applewood bacon! There was just the right amount of mayo to make it yummy, but not slippery. Here's why the 4 instead of 5 stars. The waitress, Jacqueline, was so sweet, she said, "you said you were hungry, so I gave you extra fries!" Unfortunately, the fries were terrible. I even tried them in catsup. Did not help at all. Henry's was recommended by a few locals, but sadly it missed the mark. As Henry's was nearby, opted to do take out with their herb grilled salmon and hanger steak. The salmon was smaller than a regular fork and a pretty slim cut. The hanger steak was supposed to be medium well, but the center was completely undercooked and inedible with how badly it smelled. Hopefully this was a fluke, or maybe take out orders aren't their strong point? Either way, I'll probably skip the next time I'm visiting. Mixed feelings on my first visit. A place that I had never heard of but was recommended by one of my clients. I am looking for a place to bring clients for business lunch meetings. First thing about this place that is a plus was that the general manager was at the reception counter. The second thing was that the general manager told me that they had an antigun policy (not a quote). I looked for a sign before entering and asked him to show me a sign at any of the four entrances. All he said was that there was a sign and someone must have removed it. He offered to let me in anyway and I offered to lock my tool in my car to which he declined. Note that I walked the entire outside and found that there were no signs on any other entry way. Had I been carrying concealed I would have had no way of knowing the owner's wishes. I am sure also that had I been carrying concealed that the issue would have not been an issue. I open carry because I feel that everyone that can carry, should carry. After some personal deliberation, I ordered the shrimp and grits. I had to ask about this meal when I received my bowl because it seemed like a soup. My waitress explained that the recipe had changed recently. The change as I understood it was the use of a tomato cream sauce as you see it in the photo. I was able to eat this version of a venerable southern classic that I have had many times in many different places between Michigan and Florida and places in between. The taste was fresh and delicious overall. I enjoyed this version of shrimp and grits. I am going to talk about this tomato cream sauce a bit. This sauce, described as a tomato cream sauce, tasted like neither tomato or creamy. When I sampled it alone, the texture and taste was akin to a clarified butter. It alone was bland and had an empty feeling like a spoonful of grease. When I mixed it in with the grits it was otherwise soaked up and acted like any butter that you would have with grits. Regrettably, I did not take a photo after mixing to show the contrast between the puddle appearance of the sauce before and the mixed appearance after. The service was great and I was asked about my meal a few times. I rarely reject a meal without giving it a fair chance. For some reason there was a lot of cleaning going on at the time (2:30pm) right next to my table with sweeping and mopping without a wet floor sign. One gentleman seemed to be unsuccessfully changing a lightbulb by standing on the high top chairs vs using a much safer stepladder. All of this was going on as the general manager was in view and at times on the telephone. I would guess that he is not actually concerned for the safety of either the patrons or the staff to allow these activities. Moreover, if your concerns are for the safety of your patrons and staff consider having them use a proper stepladder, wet floor signs, or deep clean the floors after hours. For the benefit of your patrons, be courteous and post a sign as to your preferences for foot wear, and clothing that you want them to wear or not. The local law specifies that you post a sign about guns for obvious reasons. Some places may try to discriminate based on appearances than being honest about how they feel about personal rights and individual liberty. Should you want your patrons to be unarmed please consider their safety by offering an armed security service on the premises. read more

Me and my boyfriend came here just tonight for the first time excited to try a new place for our anniversary. I ordered the pesto pasta which was delicious and my boyfriend got the parmesan crusted chicken. It arrived at our table and it was undercooked. We alerted our server and he got us an another dish to replace the chicken but by then he felt weird about eating. We get the bill and it is full price so my boyfriend asks our server about seeing if we can get just his meal comped and they went to get the manager. They were the crab dip for two, and the fried green tomatoes, with zucchini sticks. We both were impressed with the crab dip, and not impressed with the fried green tomatoes, and zucchini sticks. Mostly, fried breading, soaked in oil, which later gave us an upset stomach. But we loved the crab dip! We both ordered the salmon entrees, medium rare. My wife got the mashed potatoes and vegs. While I got the Mac and cheese with vegs. You can switch your sides with what's on the menu. Nick, our waiter, had to help numerous customers, and the manager, had to help out serving food. The place was about half full, and looked like they were overwhelmed, due to mismanagement. We waited, over 40 mins, for our entrees, and were relieved, that the salmon was hot, and cooked perfectly. The sides for both, were ok, and needed seasoning. The vegs were a little oily. The meal itself, had the appearance of looking like, cafeteria food, but it tasted better than it looked. After waiting, even more, to order dessert, we shared the "World's greatest chocolate cake" . A bold statement. After waiting some time to be served the dessert, we came to the conclusion, that it's good, and not "world's greatest". When we finished our meal, we noticed, that we spent close to 90 mins there. That's with them being at around 70% capacity. The prices are reasonable, but were disappointed, with slow service, and the fried green tomatoes, with zucchini sticks. They did comp us, two apps, which was very nice of them. I'll leave it at that. I don't want to sound, too negative, about the experience. They just seemed, understaffed and overwhelmed. Just like an old candy bar's title...Oh Henry's! Today we visited Henry's to dine in for brunch and to try out something different and new that we had not had before during pandemic delivery orders. The past experiences with their food were very good so I was hoping for something special this time around. FOOD: Wilmingtonian Burger with mac & cheese and peach cobbler a la mode dessert. The burger came as a suggestion from Chef Rex since I've had their shrimp and grits (top 10 in Wilmington) and their hanger steak and wanted something "new". I went with his recommendation and could not have been any more satisfied! The Wilmingtonian Burger is Henry's spin on another favorite burger by locals at another burger joint but IMO...this one is superior. The thick, 1/3rd lb fresh beef patty, thick-cut bacon, fried green tomato, pimento cheese, mayo and lettuce tower between 2 soft buns and create a flavor circus inside of your mouth. Just when you taste the beautiful seasonings on the meat patty, the warm, plump tomato blasts blissful juices around your mouth. Then the bacon...and then the pimento cheese...it never stopped with endless combinations of flavors with each bite. I ate the whole damn thing even after I was full, 75% of the way through. This burger ranks as one of my top 5 in Wilmington. As for the mac and cheese? Equally as wonderful. This mac and cheese with spiral pasta has a gooey consistency that is reminiscent of granny's but has that quality cheese blend, resulting in 6 -8 inch cheese pulls. It was seasoned well, requiring no additional salt and pepper and was pleasing to my soul and a perfect pairing with the burger. Lastly, we enjoyed Henry's' homemade peach cobbler and this is the best way I can describe the flavor and consistency. Think...cinnamon toast crunch with Challah bread, pressed together with brown sugar dusted all over, then baked along with large peach slices...served hot with a scoop of ice cold vanilla bean ice cream on top? Yeah...it tasted just like that and had a texture of the softest french toast. I was ridiculously full and was hesitant to dig in but once I experienced the first taste, I couldn't stop. This meal was filling, executed with precision and delicious. If I'm being totally honest...Henry's is becoming one of my top places to go for incredible food and at a great value. SCORE: 4.8 STARS!! SERVICE: Today, we were greeted by our server, Sydnee...a pleasant young woman who just started with Henry's 1 month ago. Her smile was contagious, personality was perfect for the role and she accommodated us beyond my expectations. Sydnee...you rocked it out on every level from check-ins, refills and overall service. If you continue to perform at this level every night, there should be no reason at all to go home with light tips. To be frank, if you provide this service to everyone and they do not tip you well, then they can just kiss your ass. Nice work. We also had the pleasure of speaking with Chef Rex Horrell as he made his rounds to dining patrons...ensuring that the food being delivered was exceptional. To me, that speaks loud volumes and shows you genuinely care about diners' happiness and feedback. The food, especially the mashed garlic potatoes, were brown, cold, and clumpy. The vegetables were overcooked and slimy. The flank steak had been sitting in marinade for days and had lots of pepper and tasted vinegary. When asked to replace my dish w something not marinated, the owner/ manager took my dish and slapped a raw salmon on it, leaving the same cold potatoes and wet, slimy veggies, on it.
