One of my favorite lunch spots. The ambience is great for lunch or dinner, the prices are fair, but at times are a bit high. I most often have the Mansion Salad with blackened chicken, and it's always delicious and under $10. The cheddar burger is always a good option as well. If you are in a hurry, sit at the bar at lunch and you'll be in and out in under 30 minutes. Oh, and don't forget the Blue Cheese vinaigrette, it's amazing. read more

Just had Birthday party of 21 here the other night and used their private dining room. Great setup and service was very organized and attentive. We all thought the food was really delicious, seasoned well, hot and fresh. We used a condensed menu so that ordering would be easier as well as far as cook times. Most of our guests had the crab cakes which was all crab no filler, fried shrimp which were huge and plentiful, Parmesan chicken or the Wilmingtonian burger with pimento cheese & fried green tomato. Everyone loved everything. Hands down an exceptional restaurant with chefs and staff that care about the food & service they are putting out. I went here for lunch with two colleagues for the first time during the Azalea Festival. It was quite busy but we got in pretty quickly. The first thing that struck me was the odd smell in the restaurant. It smelled like spoiled ground beef. This worried me right away bc you wonder where the terrible odor is coming from. My colleagues raves about how great the food was, so I tried to keep an open mind. They both ordered the roasted half chicken with roasted vegetables and mashed potatoes. I didn't think chicken in a restaurant would be very good, so I ordered the flank steak (medium rare) with asparagus and mashed potatoes. My colleagues' chicken did look dry, but they said they enjoyed it. My steak was cooked perfectly and there was a lot of it for $10.95. The potatoes had been mashed with the skins still on which I am not a fan of but the flavor was still good. The wait staff was super friendly. The smell in the restaurant never went away, but it was less noticeable once our food arrived bc you had the smell of the food was front and center. Overall, it was a good experience and we will likely go there again bc we work at New Hanover Medical Center and are frequently looking for places to eat other than the hospital cafeteria. read more

This is and has been my favorite restaurant for 14 years. The staff is incredible. Swing by and meet a wonderful staff including but not limited to Nancy, Megan (Minnie), Kat, Tabby, Jane and Dan. The staff makes everyone feel welcome. Even the Manager, Ray makes it a point to greet his patrons and make everyone feel welcome. This place puts a big focus on delivering a great customer experience. Beyond the staff the food is fantastic, forget the chain restaurants, Henry's has the BEST wings in Wilmington . Nothing skimpy just full wings. They also have an amazing cheddar burger (my favorite). Hank's Mom's meatloaf is fantastic and the Hanger Steak is great. We always have great food and excellent service when we eat at Henry's. Today they really topped themselves. We brought our dog to sit outside for brunch. So I need to write my first review on a restaurant. After reading reviews my husband and I decided to hold a rehearsal dinner here. It was a Saturday night, And they were extremely busy we Made a reservation for 25 people in their private room our turnout was well over 35 people and at the last minute they were very accommodating and brought in more tables. This is a place where specific items on the menu are good. The fried foods tasted great. I first ordered the shrimp and grits but it had a strange flavor that I didn't like so I sent it back. My husband and I stopped in to Henry's for lunch a week ago around 2:30pm. There weren't many people there, but there was more than adequate staff. We were seated and my husband said he didn't like the smell in the restaurant, I asked him what he meant, and he told me it smelled like "mothballs." That being said, I didn't smell anything unpleasant. Our server came around and took our drink orders, as only the wine list was on the menu and I wanted a non-alcoholic drink I asked what sort of regular drinks they had and the server, who was actually pretty unfriendly throughout the meal, left it at "coke products." So I had a diet and my husband had a water. We ordered our food, he had a pastrami Reuben and I had the shrimp and grits with a side salad. When I went to unroll my silver from it's napkin, a long hair came out of it. Ew. My husband snagged me another set and when I unwrapped it, the knife had a big chunk of something that had obviously gone through the dishwasher on it. I don't know if the staff who was rolling the silver just wanted to go home or what but that was disgusting. I left the silver and napkins I'd discarded on the edge of the table. Our server IGNORED them throughout the duration of the meal. I had to snag yet a another set off the table next to us! While we were eating, the staff was shouting to each other in the kitchen, obviously having a good time, and they all talked loudly to each other joking around and having a great time. That's all well and good, but I thought Henry's was supposed to be kinda... up scale? Anyway I very much enjoyed the shrimp and grits, the shrimp were cooked just right, not tough at all. The grits were creamy and the seasonings and cheese in the sauce made it the perfect, rich lunch. The salad was very good as well. I liked the cucumber-dill dressing, very fresh. My husband did not feel strongly about his meal either way. So, food was good, service and atmosphere bad. Dirty silver REALLY bad. Also, the manager came out to another table while we were there and told them the supplier was to blame for their sandy greens. Um, no. Your staff should have rinsed them. read more

Once she returned with the dessert she said it was caramel and vanilla.. however after tasting the caramel one I tasted chocolate. This experience was probably the worst I've ever had in Wilmington. We went in today (Sunday) for brunch. There were four of us. It was a bit crowded (typical for after-church) but not so much so that we had to wait for a table. We arrived at the restaurant at 12:35 and were seated almost immediately. The waitress brought menus, and we all ordered tea. After a few moments, she brought the drinks and we ordered our food. My Uncle ordered a patty-melt, but asked if they could make it on white bread, instead of rye. She said yes, no problem. My mother and husband both ordered Wilmingtonian burgers, medium well. My husband ordered a bowl of french onion soup, to brought out first, as an appetizer. I ordered an omelet. A few minutes later she came back to the table to tell my Uncle that they had no white bread, but that they had sour dough, or Texas toast. He said how about just a hamburger bun, then? She shook her head and said, "we don't have hamburger rolls." He told her, just make it with rye, then. We all heard her plainly say "we don't have hamburger rolls." We all wondered, out loud, what the hamburgers that my mom and husband ordered were going to be on, if not hamburger rolls. About 10 or fifteen minutes went by. She brought more tea. We asked how much longer. She said, oh it should be out soon! More time went by, I remember I looked at my watch at 1:10 and remarked on how hungry I was. About then, two ladies were seated in a booth next to us and our waitress took their order. When she finished speaking with them, my mother flagged her over to our table and asked if we could have some crackers, or some bread, or anything! because we were famished. She offered to bring out some rolls and butter. A few minutes later, the plate of rolls arrived (no small plates to put them on - I ate mine off of my cloth napkin!) We had our tea glasses re-filled (3rd time) and my husband asked if she had forgotten his soup? She said "Oh no, its in the oven baking right now!" We said OK, we ate the rolls, we waited ANOTHER ten minutes! We stopped the waitress again and asked her HOW MUCH LONGER? She seemed rather flustered, said they had gotten backed up in the kitchen but our food should be right out! My mother pointed out that we had been waiting for at least 45 minutes. She said well, we had a lot of people come in at one time, so we're extra busy right now. (What? you've never anticipated the after church crowd before? Is this the first Sunday ever?) She said she was sorry, but they were very busy in the kitchen and she was sure our order was "up next." About 1:20, she brought my husband's soup. She instructed him to be careful of the crock because it was hot. The soup itself was so hot, it was actually a rolling boil! There was no way he could eat it, for at least five minutes. My mother asked again, how much longer. She offered to have the manager come out and speak to us, which he did. The first thing he tells us, when he comes over to our table, is that we have not possibly been waiting for 45 minutes because the time on our ticket in the kitchen says 1:06. He said it was "turned in" at 1:06 and it was now 1:23, so (he said) that wasn't 45 minutes! I told him I had made a call on my phone when we first arrived and that the time - on my phone - said 12:35, so we have, in fact, been waiting for our food for probably over 45 minutes! We suggested that maybe the waitress didn't turn our order in when she should have. He said, no he didn't think that was what had happened but that he would "look into it" and he said that it takes a bit longer to cook hamburgers to medium well, like ours were ordered. Wow, really? It takes over 40 minutes to cook a hamburger to medium well? He must have thought we were all idiots to offer that lame excuse! Then the ladies at the booth next to us, the ones who came in after we had been sitting there waiting for at least 20 minutes got their food! When we saw that I thought my head was going to explode! I called the waitress over and told her to just bring our bill, for our tea and the soup, because we were done waiting! She said OK. A few minutes later the manager came back over to us again, and said that our food was "almost ready" if we could wait. We wanted to leave, but we were hungry so we waited. At 1:35, low and behold, our food arrived. The patty melt was COLD, the omelet tasted like rubber, the grits were cold and hard. And the burgers were on hamburger rolls, even though we were told they didn't have any! The manager said he was "taking care of our bill" because we were dissatisfied. So I'm glad we at least didn't have to pay! None of us will ever go back here again. I could have accepted a long wait, if they had ever,one time, apologized and said it was their screw up! He could have offered a free dessert, a round of drinks, or a gift card to return and give them another chance! But all the excuses and cover-ups just made a bad experience worse! read more

I have often dined at Henry's and it has varied at times from quite good to merely acceptable. The service has always been prompt and courteous. That is, however until this evening. The restaurant was not busy and we were seated quickly in a booth, menus in hand, and then proceeded to wait, and wait, and wait, for over 20 minutes we waited before a server came by to greet us. The service remained slow and bordering on neglectful throughout the meal. I ordered Fried Green Tomatoes on a bed of Israel Couscous with a balsamic reduction. The tomatoes were tiny slices, appearing more like those pre-breaded fried squash you get at cheap buffets. They tasted the same as well, the heavy breading completely overwhelming the tiny tomato slice that was, in fact, contained within. The balsamic reduction was thick and tarry, but tasted not like a good balsamic vinegar had been reduced, but a caramel colored knockoff. It contaminated the overcooked lumps of tomato, and, for some reason was puddled underneath the slices as though they were being served on an asphalt shingle. The couscous was underwhelming, overcooked and soaked in a sad vinaigrette, tasting about a day past it's prime, if it in fact ever had a prime. It took them three tries to get me a house salad with no bacon or cheese on it. Another in our party had the meatloaf, which was over peppered and unpleasant. The onion strings that were requested to replace the cabbage on the plate were missing, but the cabbage was there, off-colored and undercooked. The garlic mashed potatoes were rendered inedible by a limpid pool of gravy which drizzled down the potato mound - attractive but regretful. The third member in the party had the hanger steak, which was quite good, tender and flavorful, with a side of tasty garlic mashed potatoes and alas, more of the poor abused cabbage. Sadly, I don't think I will be dining there again, which is really a shame. It used to be a really pleasant place for lunch or dinner. read more

Ok, so I've been to Henry's many times before and have had a wonderful meal. That's why I'm being generous with my stars. Because last night's Valentine's Day dinner was less than stellar. First, the good things. A nice woman brought us some complementary chocolate covered strawberries. There was coconut sprinkled over them which wasn't the greatest, but after we scraped that off the strawberries were warm and ripe and wonderful. That was nice. And the bread was nice and fresh and warm. We were also seated within 2 minutes of our 7 pm reservation, which was a relief since it was such a busy night. Now the bad. The oysters rockefeller tasted like they had been cooked for about 6 hours and were covered in not-so-good gooey spinach. I'm normally quite the spinach fan, but this was bad. My husband's meal was almost inedible. It was some sort of shrimp and scallop pasta. I generally don't like scallops anyway, but these were bad. Extremely fishy tasting. And my angel hair pasta with lumb crab was incredibly boring. Just some pasta in butter with the most bland crab you have ever tasted. Very dissapointing. They make things sound so good on the menu. I'm pretty sure we just made bad menu choices, so we will probably return to Henry's. read more

Well the atmosphere was nice and suttle. Not to loud, even with the music. The menu looked great. The only thing wrong was I asked for the brisket, which the special around now, and asked for it goo and medium, but it came out rare. But still ate it. Family and I ate here for the first time. I feel bad cause we have lived here for years and never visited. Well I can tell you honestly it was great. Great food. Never disappoints. We live within walking distance so get henrys to go alot as well. Music at sundown, outdoor seating. Everything from good wings to good steak. They have such a variety. The lemon parm chicken and pasta dishes are a staple for me these days. read more
