I ordered a spark plug from Vespa parts, they ship UPS freight, $26! It's a spark plug, I live 100 miles away, tiny little box. Perhaps it is time to look into some different shipping options. Just saying' I called right after we started to install it to say that the plug is incorrect; it is twice size the size of the plug that came out of the scooter. When ordering I told the parts man that my scooter was purchased at Herb Chambers and had the VIN ready to give but was only asked the year and model which is an LX50. I gave the spark plug manufacturer and part number that came out of the scooter and was told it was the wrong plug for the model and was given a different plug, one that is twice the size of what came out of it. Okay, the shipping was outrageous but here is the real issue, I was told to ship the incorrect plug back and they would ship me a new one. I was expected to pay for shipping the second time. I gave all the information, he sent the wrong plug and did not take ownership for the error. Not cool! read more

I wanted to like this place so much, but have been disappointed many times. First this place is not close to us, so getting into the city to visit it and shop is a hustle. So, we researched Vespas quite a bit, found on their web site what we liked and went to the store to buy it. So we literally walked into the store and said 'we want to buy a Vespa today", a dream for a sales guy...just to be told that he is covering for someone and he can't sell anything today as he doesn't even know how to process the paperwork or even open a sales register. Wow what a disappointment, but hey we took another chance next week to find the same guy in the shop with the same answer. I mean seriously!!! So anyway, ended up going to a Stadium Vespa dealer in Wrentham and bought Vespa 150 there. Next year, I needed some service and decided to give service department a try..and I was told that there is a 2 month wait list for any service..Holy cow, I am not quite sure how that is possible as there are not that many Vespas on the road around here...OK so put my name on the list, dropped it off on the scheduled day, and then a day goes by, and then another, then a week with bike still being ready. Called few times to get same excuse that they are backed up, so they stringed me along 2.5 months to get service done!? As other reviews point out, the prices are ridiculous accessories, chains, locks, helmets etc. higher than MSRP sticker on them. Mr. Chamber's, I think you need to re-think your Vespa Sales Floor and who you have representing it. If I rated HC Vespa two years ago, when I went in for the first time it would have easily been a 4.5 Star review. And the reason being would have been for Maz's passion for the brand and what it represents and transcends. Maz not only knew what he was talking about but he was a genuine great guy... and not another "sales person" looking to make a sale. Unfortunately, Maz has left the company, the business, and the state (some think that he may have been pushed out of HC Vespa) and now there's that gross, used car sales person feeling when you go in to HC Vespa. I stopped in a couple weeks ago, Chris the shop mechanic (and the last good thing about HC Vespa) was there, as well as the new manager D. I just don't feel the same passion from D that I felt from Maz. D incorrectly quote me about a used model on the sales floor not once, not twice, but 3 times. Great, okay simple mistake.. but when I know more about your inventory then you do somethings wrong. Umm, and seriously... you think that I'm going to buy something that I don't test drive?!!? Are you serious?? Did you just buy the Porsche GT on looks alone Mr. C? I know you're smarter than that. So let me test the Granturismo, please. And, run a promotion more then once a year damn it. For reals. Remember that you came up from the bottom. Don't try to rip your customers off by offering used "deals" at more then KBB and just shy of a NEW models MSRP. I mean, if you're going to try to screw me at least throw me a helmet or something!!! Carry more after market brand parts!!! This is huuuuge. Seriously, thiiiiis is your business!! Yes, I had a few issues with my service: 1. It was over two weeks for my scooter to be serviced. 2. When I came to pick up my scooter the man behind the counter had my scooter labelled incorrectly with another scooter. 3. Three days after I returned it the same issue happened again. Then I stopped riding it, the next time I rode it (one month later) it died on me while I was using my scooter. 4. I received the vehicle with a flat tire. Overall, the service I received was horrible. I called them back and they are taking it back with an unknown amount of time to fix it. * I will return and write the conclusion after the repairs. I paid a bit over $450 the first time. The only redeeming factor is an employee named Brandon who always answers and returns call and seems helpful. I would not recommend this company to anyone ever. read more

If you do your research ahead of time and recognize that they are coasting on the fact that they seem to have a local lock on the Vespa sales biz then you'll do OK. Key: - Research & price ahead of time - Don't buy accessories here (much much cheaper online) - Remember to get inspected if your scoot is bigger than 50cc The 50cc scooters just can't go fast enough for me to feel safe on the 30-45MPH limit roads around Roslindale/Dedham/JP/Cambridge (the J-way & Washington street being prime examples) -- where the real-world vehicle speed ranges from 40-60 depending on traffic and time of day. Ended up getting a 150cc Vespa LX150 which for me was the right balance between size, speed and power. The 50cc scoots didn't feel safe and the 250cc scoots just seemed way to beefy & heavy for some reason. Bought while they were offering the 0% financing option but dialed the loan term down to 6 months to force me to pay it off quickly - seems silly to take out a lengthy loan for something like a scooter so I wanted to be sensible. Looks like they are offering that finance deal again at least this month. Indispensable accessories besides helmet, gloves and safe jacket: - Scooter cover - Hardcore chain & lock ... got those at the dealership and only found out later how much I had overpaid. Would strongly recommend getting all accessories elsewhere or ideally online. Bought helmet and riding jacket at a motorcycle shop. Both saved me lots of skin and possibly a head injury after I dumped the scoot at low speed (~10 MPH maybe) trying to make a left turn against traffic and accidentally put the back wheel across a wet manhole cover. Was not wearing gloves at the time which was a mistake soon corrected. My biggest complaint: The dealership put the license plate on and registered the scooter once I gave them the insurance information. Since they did that I thought it was just like a car buying experience where they basically do all the paperwork for you. My ignorance cost me some $$. Learned the error of my ways when I got a ticket in Roslindale for not having a motorcycle inspection sticker on the license plate. The dealer had registered and plated my scoot but didn't inspect it and did not tell me that I need that done when they delivered it. The ticket dude was really nice about it and gave me directions to the nearest place that did motorcycle inspections. I'm still kind of mad about that. If Herb Chambers is offering plates and registration services it would have been nice if they had stepped up and either also offered inspection or told me that I'd need one. read more

I have to agree with Daisy 100%. I went here twice last week. The first time I was just looking and getting an idea of what I wanted. And the second time I was pretty much ready to buy after researching all week. On my first visit, a young girl helped my friend and I. I think she had just started because she didn't know the answers to many of the questions we were asking. She had to keep asking the guys that were out back. I was interested in the 2008 Piaggio Fly 50. The MSRP is $1895 but good ol' Herb was selling them for $2495. A full $600 mark up! (and I'm pretty sure that is not including tax). I know scooters are in high demand but cmon! That is just not fair. They were also sold out of the Fly 50 went I went back on Saturday. They are having a good promotion through 6/30/08 which includes $0 down, 0 payments, and 0% APY for a year. I qualified and put my name on a waiting list for the next shipment of Fly 50s but I'm not going back. The sales staff does ignore you for the most part. They have an attitude because they know their product is in high demand and that means you can treat people poorly apparently. I even asked the guy about the higher price (because like a nerd, I had print outs from motorcycle.com and other vespa dealerships from around the country). He claims the $600 was for "freight and set up." I didn't buy that explanation because I called a few of those other dealerships and they basically told me that Herb was just basically ripping people off. No thanks. I'd gather take a drive and deal with ethical business folk. read more

Went in to the service department for a tune-up and oil change. They took the time to install their Herb-branded license plate frame. They did not take the time to add the oil. Luckily, I caught it before engine seizure. They did little to make it right or show contrition or responsibility for a terrible error. If there was another option for Vespa service in Boston, they would have my business, so one additional star, just for existing. read more

The Vespa is a lot of fun to drive and is THE way to get around in the city. I love it every time I get on it and ride it year-round here. But... Vespa Boston service sucks! The don;t return phone calls, and the work is half-hearted at best. I dropped mine off to have a problem with the rear light fixed. 4 days later it was still not done. They said they replaced the bulb, but that didn;t work so they were going to take it all apart to check it out. When? When I had gone by the previous day they were all standing around having a nice chat and said they would get right on it. Not! No passion, no concern for the customer. Unfortunately these scooters do need service and if you are not able or willing to do it yourself Vespa Boston is not the place for you. BTW - Maz was the best and is sorely missed. read more

If I was writing this review in 2011, I would give Herb Chambers Vespa Boston 1 star at the very most. The past terribleness has been chronicled here in previous reviews, so I will not add my previous experiences to that. This review however is about the new management which is led by Jillian and the hard work they're putting in to improve the Vespa Boston image. Recently I brought in my Vespa to get the back rack replaced and pending issues from 2011 resolved... which were still pending after months and months of trying to contact Adam. Jillian was very helpful and my Vespa was fixed up in record time. I was even surprised to pick up my scooter and find that Jillian had washed & waxed it, installed new roller weights for me. Herb Chambers Vespa has made huge strides in improving their customer service and that is why this review gets 4 stars. I would give a full 5 stars, but I think they still have a little more work to do in fixing the past soured relationships, organizing the past mess, and providing 100% customer service. If you haven't been to the shop in a while or have avoided it because of what you have heard, then I urge you to check them out again and see the improvements for yourself! read more

I've heard bad things about other Chambers dealerships, so I was wary but I wanted a scooter and I wanted a Vespa for their reliability and cool look. I ended up buying a new GTS 250 and have nothing but good things to say about the dealership, including Diodoro the general manager. They've been great every time I've had a problem and promptly fixed free of charge with profuse apologies the time they accidentally installed a defective battery. I get my Vespa done there for regular servicing and they couldn't be nicer. Say what you will about the Chambers empire, but Diodoro and company are excellent. read more

After a few weeks of researching and visiting HC Vespa, I finally bit the bullet and bought a used one from these guys. I wasn't Diadoro's (the manager) number one fan, as he is pretty much just like the skeezy salesperson you expect at a dealer. There also was an issue with the bike after I bought it - something with the blinker - and he seemed a little put off about it all, but he took care of it since there was a 4 month warranty on it (I think it's a year on used). It's not my fault you sold me something that wasn't working 100% well! Oh yeah - one thing to point out - if you're buying used be sure to inspect the whole bike. I didn't notice a ding on it, because it was on the bottom of the bike, but since it was there when I bought it he wouldn't do anything to fix it. LAME. I did get a pretty decent deal though, so I'm not too fussed. If this was based solely on my sales experience, this review would be a 2, maybe 3 at best. The redeeming quality of this place is the service crew. They're awesome! Whenever I have to stop by with a question or problem, they're super friendly and get it taken care of right away. Most of the time when I've come in with an issue they take care of it right then and there, and I'm out within 20-30 minutes. Also, when they delivered my bike to my place, the guy who delivered it showed me how to use it and spent about a half hour with me showing me the ropes. That was super helpful! The only other downside of this place is the aftermarket products. They are totally expensive/overpriced. But, just like with any other thing, if you shop around you can get the same stuff cheaper elsewhere. Just a buyer beware! Happy Vespaing!! read more

I bought a new Lx50 Vespa here this fall and was really happy with the experience and continue to be. Obviously, riding around on an amazingly cute red Vespa will make anyone happy. But it is more than that. The staff is very relaxed and informative - the sign of people who know that the product sells itself. When I found out that the 50cc version is basically treated like a bike by MA - no tags, no insurance, park it on the sidewalk - I was sold. Like they tell you, picking the color is the hardest part. Also, I recently couldn't get mine to start, stopped by and asked what was probably wrong and how I could get it to them etc. Response: Oh, you just bought yours right? Call this number and they'll pick it up for free and we'll fix it for free. Check and check. If you're on the fence, come on over to the V side. read more

I love my scooter. It's zippy and fun. It gets me to work and back just fine. I can park wherever the heck I want, and I emerge from gas stations grinning from ear to ear. However, this is not a review of my scooter. I probably paid too much for my adorable scooter - because Herb Chambers can charge more, being the only Vespa dealership in town, as others have noted. That's why I took a star off. Why I put so many on follows: When I stopped by the showroom to pick the staff's brains about scooter riding, the manager, Diodoro, was really, really nice, and let me sit on the model I wanted while I asked about 60,000 questions. I walked away scooterless, and made up my mind that week to buy. The transaction was a breeze, and I even got $200 worth of free accessories, including my rocking full-face helmet. A Herb Chambers employee came to my place to drop off the scooter - and drove us to a parking lot where he taught me how to turn and brake and keep my damn feet up. That service was free as well, which was pretty freaking nice, considering I never rode before and was pretty nervous. So... I can't get a straight answer out of the Interwebs, but I think I overpaid by about $300-400 on my Piaggio. Also, if I'd shopped around just a bit more, I would have realized there were other 50-cc scooters for sale at Riverside Motors (in Union Square) and in Arlington at Greater Boston Motor Sports on Mass Ave., much cheaper. I might have bought the Piaggio anyway, knowing that - it's really nice. But the point is I didn't know, which made me feel a little impulsive when I found out. I definitely don't have buyer's remorse. And I did have an overall positive experience at Herb Chambers. If you're looking for a new Vespa or Piaggio scooter, this is the only place to go! But if you're just looking for a scooter period, you might do well to explore your options at the other places I mentioned. * * * * I've debited a star, and am editing to add: I brought my little buggy in for its first service, and while I understand the current summer run on Vespas has this place about a million times more hoppin' than it was in March... I really expected more. It needed its standard service, plus a couple small issues - one of which was that my kill switch wasn't working - that I mentioned when I dropped it off. Homeboy wrote all my issues down and solemnly promised they'd be looked at/taken care of. When I picked it up, I noticed that it was shiny and clean - but the kill switch still wasn't working. Another dude came out and fixed it in 5 minutes, which tells me no one even looked at it the first time around. Wtf? However, I couldn't deduct any more stars because Diodoro didn't make me buy a new tire after I ran over a staple - he gave me a much, much cheaper patch. The people who work here are all very friendly and helpful. They have a good selection of all of the new Vespa and Piaggio models in several different colors, including some very nice limited or special edition models, and they usually have a few models from the prior year, kind of like a car dealer. They usually don't have any of the classic older or vintage Vespas -- look on Craigslist for those. The only drawback is that prices are slightly high, since they don't really have any competition in the immediate area. Prices are lower at the Vespa dealers in Maine/NH/Rhode Island, but then you have to figure out how to get your Vespa back to Boston. I suppose they pay high rent for such a good location at the intersection of Comm. Ave. and Brighton Ave. However, that makes them very convenient if you live in Brookline/JP/Cambridge/Allston/Brighton and need to swing by to take your Vespa in for a tune up or repair. The service dept is also very good, and if they don't have a part or accessory that you need, they will order it for you. They can also pick up your Vespa if you can't get it started (but Vespas are so simple that you can often figure out the problem yourself). The LX50 model has a 50 cc engine and only requires a registration sticker, not a license plate or motorcycle rider's license or motorcycle insurance, which is a big advantage. read more

I've been here a number of times and helped the girlfriend with buying a new scoot from these folks, so I can probably give a pretty good picture of what to expect at this point. First of all they keep a pretty good selection of newer models in stock year round for the most part. I don't recall making any visits to a spartan showroom, so they most likely will have the scoot you're lusting over. Their focus however is modern Vespas, so any of you folks with old classics probably shouldn't waste your time dropping by. They don't really work on them unless it's something very simple and most of the young kids standing around won't know a tremendous amount about them. Their was a nice fellow named Maz who worked there for a good while who knew the classics, but he doesn't work there anymore. You should expect prices to be high with lots of fees tacked on and it's up to you to negotiate the best price. Depending on the time of year and your charm you may or may not walk out with a reasonable price. I can tell you winter is the time to buy though if you're thinking about it. As for riding gear and helmets look elsewhere when you make a purchase here unless you HAVE to own a Vespa half helmet. They have little to choose from when it comes to riding gear and I suggest making a visit to a real Motorcycle shop in Boston for a jacket, helmet, gloves, etc. Service prices are high relative to what you get and you should expect some sticker shock. Since this place is the only gig in town for a Vespa you should expect them to have that feel, but they do OK. They are professional at least and they do what they say they will, but they do lack the warmth and knowledge more hardcore scooterists may be seeking. For the masses who seek a Vespa they should get the job done just fine. 3.5 stars because they lack a lot of gear and accessories, the prices run high, and they don't deal with older Vespas. read more

I bought my first bike from here back in March of 2010. At the time, I wasn't wild about the management who sold me the bike but I've been much happier with their service since the shop manager Jillian has been aboard. I got into an accident in the fall and the shop manager and mechanics were super helpful and knowledgeable. They knew how to deal with the frustrating insurance company and how to assess damages. The mechanics and management kept in touch with me through the process and were patient and flexible with me as I made decisions on what to repair. When I go into the shop or call, Jillian always knows me and my bike and the turnaround time is exceptional. Customer service is comfortable and easy-going. I'm looking forward to learning more about the new mechanic. read more

I created a Yelp account just to warn people about doing business with these folks. It's that important. It's tempting with cute and fun scooters to buy one from these, and Vespas are pretty reputable and well-known right? I am warning you now: Do NOT give Herb Chambers Vespa your business. They are mostly concerned about pushing new scooters off the sales floor. They do NOT care to service them - or at least they don't put their money where their mouth is. It is now full-speed riding season entering the beginning of May, and the only employees there are the manager, Adam, and ONE shop worker, Josh. They will take over two weeks to repair your vehicle once you drop it off. Parts for Piaggios and Vespas are way overpriced, like $75 for a voltage regulator, or $62 for an ignition coil. They do not even keep many parts in stock, and you will have to wait while they ship from some warehouse for many parts. They will often charge you $99 labor for something that takes 10 minutes. Do yourself a favor and buy a quality Taiwanese scooter, such as a Sym or a Genuine scooter. Give your business to Smooth Scooters of Medford or Scooters Go Green of South Boston. Or buy a real motorcycle, which I imagine will have fewer mechanical problems than these made-in-China Piaggios do. Yes, that's right, the Piaggio Fly is made in the People's Republic of China. Taiwanese scooters are reasonably priced and you can use reasonably-priced aftermarket parts when repairs come up, which are much cheaper. And frankly, I think aftermarket parts would be more reliable. read more

Whenever I bring my scooter in, I always get an update of what mechanically needs to be done next and how to prepare for the eventual repairs. These are good guys and easy to work with. First time reviewer: I've purchased two vehicles from Boston Vespa- love them both, however am currently having a horrible experience with their new 'team' as it concerns their service department. For over five years, I had only pleasant experiences with service issues- Mas and Diodoro were reasonable and accommodating and Chris & Orlando were reliable and timely with their repairs. Things have changed. On April 6, my 2009 Vespa S150 was brought into Vespa Boston for service for what the technician thought might be a dead battery. The technician told me that he had been backed-up with a high number of service cases and that he would not be able to get to my Vespa until Saturday, the 9th, which seemed reasonable at the time. I have since called each week but have not been given a satisfactory timeline or definitive description of how and when I should have my vehicle back. I have also gotten the impression that I have been reminding the technician about my vehicle with my phone calls. On Monday, April 25, I called and was told me that I would be back on my Vespa by that coming weekend. I waited and was not called back and so called and spoke to the technician again on Saturday, April 30 and was informed that tests had been done to determine why the fuse had burned out and he was waiting for instructions from a Piaggio technician. The week went by and on Sunday, the 8th of May, I drove to Vespa Boston and I explained my situation to the salesman who was there. The manager called me on Monday, the 9th, representing the very first time I had received a call from anyone at Vespa Boston in the past three weeks. He informed me that the stator was being considered and a replacement had been ordered and that I would likely be able to pick up my Vespa that coming Thursday, the 12th of May. Once again, I was not called and so phoned on this past Sunday, May 15th and reached the technician who told me, after checking his emails, that the stator was going to be delivered by Tuesday and I could expect to get my vehicle back on Wednesday. I use my Vespa everyday to commute and being without it has gone beyond inconvenience and become expensive and the uncertainty has only exacerbated my frustration. I understand that everything mechanical breaks down but I have had significant car repairs and body work done to vehicles that did not take as long as this- at worst, I have been offered a loaner vehicle in cases of extreme delay- as this seems to be. At the time of this review, it has been forty days since I dropped off my vehicle. The worst is that there isn't a competing Vespa dealer so they kinda have me by the stones. read more

Found myself in a pinch yesterday when I went to do my motorcycle road test and the examiner saw that my inspection sticker was 5-months expired. Went into Vespa to see if they did these, and while they did not, they had a place to recommend..and then the services manager actually called the guy who ran the place (Mackenzies) personally to see if they could do a quick inspection for me. Dude said to come on over, I did, and had my ET4 inspected 15-minutes after leaving Vespa. Really appreciate the quick advice! read more

Ironic. It's great to have a place that sells Vespas, but it sucks that the only thing stopping me from replacing mine is the service department at Vespa of Boston. I sincerely wish there was a competitor in the Boston greater area to press this place to get their customer service in order. It's great talking directly with the people at the front desk and in sales, but the service arm is seriously lacking. In my two or three times in the shop I've heard grumbling about being overburdened with repairs, and corporate Vespa employees imposing policies that they don't like. The service department seems to coast on the lack of other mechanics in the area. It sucks that if you buy a Vespa from them, there isn't a good alternative for repairs/maintenance. The service employees are pretty sketchy, in that they sometimes asked me for cash only payments despite having a credit card machine, and use personal cell phones to do business, suggesting to me that there is not a good relationship between employees and owners. I tried to just roll with the wild-west feel of the place since I depended on them for regular service, but after the last couple interactions I did a bit of online research and ended up feeling overcharged and underserved. It just was too unpleasant dealing with the service department, and I hated the paranoid feeling of thinking the mechanics were trying to screw me over. If the service department got it together, I'd buy a vespa from them in an instant, but as it stands I'll just use cabs. read more

I dropped by Herb Chambers out of curiosity and had a wonderful experience. Brendan took quite a lot of time to explain to me the different engine sizes, mileage capabilities and was extremely thorough in explaining the minor differences between the bikes on display. I was concerned about the storage capabilities and Brendan was able to explain multiple options and price out the costs exactly for each one, which I thought was very helpful. We probably spent at least 10-15 minutes just going through several different cases available and he took the extra time to bring me to the repair section in the back to see an older type of case and also brought a new one out of the package and opened it so I could make a decision (which I know was a pain for him since he had to rewrap everything). I felt that Herb Chambers was able to offer me a full range of options and I really appreciated their willingness to order me a specific color/style combination that wasn't on the floor instead of pressuring me to get what was available. I found the selection itself great as there was a wide range of engine sizes, colors, models and I was able to easily move around the store and make comparisons. The staff offered a full range of customer service, answering my questions from everything concerning durability of the paint on metal versus plastic, the local laws regarding parking a Vespa, how to secure the vehicle to prevent theft, getting licensed in the state, engine noise, etc. Brendan mentioned when I was in the store that there had been a change in management and that he and the other new staff members had turned the store in a new direction. I'd never been to the store before but reading some of the older Yelp reviews it seems like the Herb Chambers I visited is a completely different store than it may have once been. In his reply to my note, Howie Reske from Herb Chambers says "If there is anything I can do for you going forward please don't hesitate to contact me personally." So, here's what HCV can do for ALL of us: Extend service hours; how about 7AM - 7PM Hire additional service technicians to handle the workload Stock parts instead of telling us that we have to wait fro the boat from Italy. In other words, be a professional service center. In the past two years I have purchased two LX150's from HCV and I sent my friend in who bought another one. But unless HCV puts as much emphasis on servicing what they sell as the put on closing the deal, I'm done with them. For us folks north of Boston, Great Bay Motorcycles in North Hampton is another option to try. I haven't gone there yet, but I plan to soon. read more

I dealt with Dio and it was a transaction completed mostly electronically and through the phone. I believe he was doubtful of my intentions to complete the deal but once I gave him the deposit he was always responsive and helpful. He sent the documentation overnight and followed up. I have owned several Vespas before from the now defunct Vespa Hartford. I would have emptied my wallet on merchandise but the store was pretty empty of inventory. That is a minus. He was on the phone when I got to the store when my car service dropped me from Hartford and I waited a little bit. Since I was familiar with the product, I was out of there in no time. My saga conditions. Finally got my bike back and "fixed'. Picked it up on Saturday, June 29. Road it back to JP and on Sunday went to get the paper and it sounded very rough, made a lot of metallic sounds and had no acceleration. Then it died. Guess they did not fix the bike! Had them pick it up on Monday, July 1 Today is Tuesday, July 9. As usual, no phone call from Vespa of Boston to let me know they have my bike and when it would be looked at and when I can expect it back. The manager never calls, looks overwhelmed with being manager, service manager, parts manager, etc. Decided to go to the showroom to try and find out what is happening. Nothing. But when is very disconcerting is that they is a backlog of 40/50 bikes in the service queue, which means at least a three week wait. Right in the middle of the summer! Place is understaffed with only one mechanic (and he is good). How do they expect to have new customers or have their present customers not be irate and write reviews here when we experience this kind of service. Can't blame the mechanic. Can quibble about Brendan and his complete lack of follow-up. The culprit is really the Herb Chambers organization which is not providing Vespa with the kind of support that it needs to keep customers satisfied. Rolf F. read more

I had nothing but great experiences with Herb Chamber Vespa. The most recent was today. My 2006 LX150 would not start. It had started with no issue three times today. I've had some intermittent starting problems but usually could get it started. So I called to see if they could pick it up, but a driver was not available. They provided the name of another service, but sensing my angst, Brendon offered to come over to me (about 15 minutes) and see what could be done. Brendon brought a fresh battery, swapped it out, and voila, Bellisimo started. I road back to work on the borrowed battery then over to HC Vespa to buy a new battery. DO NOT BUY HELMETS HERE. Had an emergency situation where my helmet broke and I desperately needed another one in order to ride my moped home from where it broke down the night before. The moped shop was closed and with no other place to buy a helmet, I dropped $160 on a Vega X888 helmet. You can get this very same helmet anywhere else for $60. On top of this, I called to ask about the return policy and the person who answered the phone was unable to give me a clear answer. I got ripped off terribly and had to dip into my savings to pay for a helmet with a $100 markup that I can't return. If you don't believe me, go to Vega's website and look at the prices. To whom it may concern, I am again writing to express my dissatisfaction with Herb Chambers Vespa of Boston. After my original letter was written (please see below) my bike was "repaired" rather quickly. However, upon leaving the dealership, it broke down again with the same problem and had to be towed back. I was told the fuel line that was replaced was defective; and to your credit, the bike was towed at your cost and was fixed within a few days. After I picked up the bike and began driving it, I discovered another problem. I brought it to another repair shop to have it evaluated, as I certainly would never opt to bring my bike to Herb Chambers for service, and apparently the water pump is now broken. Due to high demand, this bike shop must limit their repair service to only bikes that they sell, so I reluctantly made a repair appointment with your dealership September 6th. I initially received a call letting me know what the problem was, which I already knew. Fast forward five weeks, it is now October 11th and I had to call again for an update. I was told that there was still difficulty obtaining the part, and there is no estimation on when the problem will be resolved. I again ask; who is the customer? Shouldn't your dealership be contacting me? Furthermore; five weeks and counting, to repair a vehicle is unacceptable. I had already lost confidence with your repair service abilities, and now I find myself with a diminished opinion of your customer service commitment. I have posted both these letters on Yelp and Facebook, and that is only the beginning. I would like to offer you the opportunity to resolve this issue and properly repair my bike in a timely fashion, before I am forced to take my complaints beyond the realm of social networking. I will be filing complaints with the Better Business Bureau and the Federal Trade Commission, as your dealership and the manufacturer you represent make promises you don't keep and hold your consumers hostage when a repair is required. On7/5/11, I contacted Herb Chambers to assist me with service on my new Piaggio BV500 when it discontinued working and left me stranded on the side of the road. Upon speaking with your dealership, I was told that tow service would take 3-4 days to arrive. Therefore, I contacted a private tow company who brought my bike to your dealership at a cost of $180.00. Once my bike arrived at your dealership, I was told that it would take 3-4 days for the mechanic to evaluate the problem. After 5 days, I took it upon myself to contact your dealership to obtain the status of my repair. I had to leave a message as no one was available; however no one returned my call. After 7 days at your repair shop I called back and got through to the mechanic who told me he was very busy and would hopefully look at the bike in a few days. After not hearing back from your mechanic, I called again at 9:00 AM on 7/15/11 and had to leave a message once again with the receptionist, who assured me that someone would return my call. As of 3:00 PM I had not received a return call, so I called back and spoke with the mechanic who said he had not had a chance to evaluate the bike, and that he hoped to look at it on the following Monday the 18th. After not hearing back from the mechanic, I called again on Tuesday the 19th and left a message with the receptionist, but did not receive a return call. After not hearing back by the morning of Thursday the 21st, I contacted your dealership again. I was assured by the receptionist that I would receive a return call, however I did not. Therefore, I called again at 4:30PM and spoke to the mechanic who said he was having difficulties troubleshooting the problem. He said if I did not hear from him by Monday to give him a call. First, am I not the customer, and therefore shouldn't your dealership be contacting me? In addition, 3 weeks is an extremely long time to get a problem solved, and my confidence level with the ability of your mechanics to diagnose and correct a problem are diminished. This is the second Vespa I have purchased from your dealership, and I can assure you that it will be my last. In addition, I am looking to upgrade my Lincoln Navigator and Cadillac CTS, and would never consider purchasing any vehicle from Herb Chambers because it is apparent that customer service is certainly not a priority at your dealership. I would like to offer you the opportunity to correct this issue and repair my bike to my satisfaction and in a timely manner, before I begin to express my dissatisfaction with everyone I know and on every online blog available. In the years since I first bought a ride at Vespa, they've lost a couple stars. While everyone that works there is friendly, don't even bother trying to order accessories or touch up paint or anything - they'll take the order, never actually place it, and never follow up. After 10 plus visits I've decided to never go back to Herb Chambers Vespa. First time I had a mirror broken off and needed a replacement. The one they put on was clearly used: scratched on the back and cloudy. I made them replace it with a new one. Then I went in for several oil changes without incident except for small things like I asked them to replace a broken reflector and it was never done until I reminded them when picking it up and then had to wait. Then this spring, I was having a funny noise from the engine. Their response after $276 was: "we took it apart and couldn't find anything. Don't worry about it". It still made the noise and I tried not to worry about it. Then two weeks later the battery went dead and I couldn't kick start it so back I went after jumping it. They replaced all of the ignition parts saying it was shorting out the battery which also had to be replaced. Now it kick starts BUT as I get on it, the ignition is completely loose and spinning around in the dash. I called the manager out to look at it and he says, "oh yeah, it was rusted and broke, you'll need to get that welded. We don't do welding here." So now, my bike (another $254 later) kick starts but the ignition is completed f&*#'d and I have to go to Amazing Auto in Roxbury (love Manny there) to get the ignition welded back into place. REALLY HCV? You break my ignition and then say, "we don't do welding". Go see Manny at Amazing Auto. He'll hook you up! read more

Never had a bad experience here. Always had minor parts that I needed and at a relatively good price, too. 2-stroke oil is cheap and they have Motul, which is nice. Jill was very friendly and helped me locate the parts I needed. All of the old reviews on here, pre- new-regime, do not exemplify the quality of service they currently provide. I live out of the Boston area but have found the service department to be most helpful....from procuring parts from Italy, to sending out filters and motor oil. I have found their pricing to be better than others Sometimes it's hard to get connected to the Service/Parts department through the main switchboard, but when you connect, the employees are most helpful. read more

I have to agree with Bryan W's post. Brought in my 50cc to service 8 days ago after Vespa Boston failed to pick-up my scooter as the driver apparently didn't show for work. Same as with Bryan ... they never called for a status update. I called Monday and was promised the scooter would be done done by Tuesday. Called Saturday and they haven't even started yet. Don't waste your time with them and go elsewhere. Terrible business. Herb Chambers should fire the entire staff. Good thing I haven't wasted any money - just time.
