"Tales of Trails and Tea Houses" April - September, 2022 My new theme for some of my yelp reviews for this year! My husband and I are planning on exploring a new trail and a new tea house for our monthly dates for the 6 warmer months of this year! :) On June 16th of this year, my husband and I wandered in to Herban Wellness. We felt welcome and attended to. We're impressed that they make their own teas, so the teas here are very unique. They have a lot of one-of-a-kind teas to choose from. They have a great variety of herbs and other natural care products as well. I chose the "Healthy Skin" tea to purchase, and I also picked up some local honey that was made in Maple Valley, WA. The "Healthy Skin" tea tasted interesting - woody, bitter, and earthy. It didn't taste bad at all, but I felt like it was maybe made with health benefits as its primary purpose, and taste maybe was secondary. I would drink it again, but I won't be raving about the flavor. However, the honey was delicious. I also picked up some dried marshmallow root pieces as well, to make marshmallow root tea. I used to visit a different herb place to source my marshmallow root when we lived in Seattle, so it's nice to find this place that is located pretty close to our new house on the East Side. I felt a bit overwhelmed while I was in there, but in a good way. There is a lot to choose from in a somewhat small space, and I kept seeing things that looked really interesting! I really like the products and people who work here, but came in today and couldn't access the books (which is one of the main reasons I came into the store) because they had students from Bastyr in and they were congregated in that area, blocking access. I don't get to the store as often as I'd like, and this was disappointing that they would block up an entire section of the store so the regular customers can't shop. Not everyone has time to come back any time! With the ability to buy anything online, I think this is a surprising way to operate. Otherwise, still good products and nice people. read more

What a great experience coming here! I rang them before so I could jnow in advanced if they had the flowers I needed and open hours. I think there's a day in the middle of the week when they don't open. The person that helped me was knowledgeable and friendly. He helped me creating my blend, writing down names and minutes/hours I should steep them. They also have oils and other natural stuff. You should stop by. What a wonderful health and wellness shop in downtown Kirkland with the friendliest and most knowledgeable staff. I finally visited Herban Wellness, as I've seen it so many times whenever I'm in Kirkland and was curious about it. I have seasonal allergies, which at times, gets severe. I hate having to take an allergy pill everyday, which can't be good for the amount of toxins I put in my body. But at Herban Wellness they have all-natural products that helps cure allergies and beyond. I'm open to any kind of remedy at this point, especially if it can be done naturally. For allergies, they do have allergy pills you can take, in addition to medicinal tea, sinus sprays, essential oils, etc... The staff are super knowledgeable here. They know their stuff and offer advice on what to take with plenty of options, without trying to push you to buy anything. Even if you're curious about a product, I recommend asking the staff. I learned a lot about allergy products and home remedies, just in my time at Herban Wellness, all thanks to the friendly staff here. In addition to allergy treatment, they have products for whatever ails you. I like the range of products in various forms for helping cure a symptom or illness. The shop is small, but they carry enough items for you to check out. What's also really cool is that they can customize a treatment for you here; all you need to do is take a brief quiz about yourself, to help figure out what you're seeking. My friend and I saw the deal on groupon and after looking at the description, most of the classes looked really interesting. I signed up for the Bath Salts and Foot Soak class tonight and it was a really fun experience. I didn't think we would actually be soaking in essential oils and salts tonight. I would have to say this was a great and relaxing experience. Totally worth it! Not only did I learn a ton about essential oils, the different types of Salts, and herbs, but I also learned about how important they are to one's body. I would highly recommend the classes. You also get a 15% discount off any items in the store after the class. I'm in health care and I'm going to incorporate more herbal wellness to myself as well as for my patients. Btw - the dog is super mellow and super clean/soft. Katya is super friendly. I often read reviews and sometimes you can't trust the bad reviews. You have to look at the tone of the review. Wow, what an amazing experience we had at Herban Wellness yesterday. I don't post reviews often unless I have an out of this world experience- and I did here! My friend and I just walked in after having a pretty bad morning and instantly were so welcomed. The staff is doing an amazing job at keeping everything clean and sanitized during the pandemic. We felt very safe during our time there. The woman that was working, Mackenzie (great name ;) - she was truly incredible. She was so kind, gentle, and extremely informative. She was not pushy, so sweet and answered our questions with so much information. I ended up getting 4 different products because I was so impressed and needed all of them.  The fact that everyone at Herban wellness is a certified herbalist is very impressive and really shows with their level of professionalism and care. I do not live in WA, visiting from CA and Mackenzie informed me that they can ship and create anything one would need and work with my Naturopath. I plan on ordering from this local store and having it shipped because they have everything, and at such great prices. I give this place the best greeting upon walking into a store award. I was greeted by a very friendly & smiling face wearing a beautiful furry coat that screamed pet me. Bonus points for dog friendly establishment. The owner had recently gotten the friendly greeter from a nearby rescue place. My naturopath sent me to the store on an errand to get some tea for a current ailment I find myself with. I have been wanting to check this place out and I was happily sent there by doctor's orders. This place is unique in that it focuses on natural herbs & being able to mix your own brews. Not your typical supplement store. You can even choose to get the condensed liquid form of your herbs (instead of the leaves for tea) so that you can put it into a tincture and mix quickly with a bit of water and gulp it down. The owner is a Bastyr graduate who specialized in nutrition and herbs and she knows her stuff. I gave her the prescribed tea from my doctor not knowing were to begin, and she was very helpful in putting together a tincture for me. She even provided me with a cup of water to mix the solution in so I could start the treatment right away. I thought that was really thoughtful. I didn't even ask for that. They seem to offer some classes and a mailing list as well. I will definitely go back to this store again should I find myself in need of some healing herbs. I rarely if ever post any reviews on anything, but I agree with Sarah, I would erase those bad reviews too. I purchased a Groupon deal once and have since taken many classes outside of the deal, and I have NEVER had a problem getting into the classes, EVER. I've always used the online scheduling tool or I've emailed Katya with no problems. She also offers the same classes on a monthly basis, usually a couple of sessions per month, and from what I've seen, they are usually up on the website well in advance. I'm pretty sure I booked my first class over 3 weeks before I attended. I find it hard to believe the reviews stating otherwise. The extremely rude, hateful, and over the top negative reviews are what prompted me to write my positive one. I am not someone who knew Katya before taking classes, nor was I recruited to post a review. I love her store, and I absolutely adore Abby the dog. She is one of my favorite parts about visiting the store, and I would be very sad to see her disappear. She is extremely well behaved and usually lays down near the door away from any of the classes or products. I am allergic to cats, but I do not force people who have cats to make accommodations for me - if I am going to be around one, I take my allergy medicine and suck it up because I love animals. I can also confirm that Katya's class confirmation emails mention Abby and ask people to let her know before hand if they have an issue with a dog. I've never once seen anyone leave a class because of Abby, and I think most people love having her there. read more

(even my family from out of state always want to stop in, because you actually learn while in the shop and that is so hard to come by!) Cannot say enough good things about this shop! Was diagnosed with some thryoid issues, and the doctor's synthetic medicine just wasn't doing the trick. I wanted to try the natural route, but didn't have the extra money to see a Naturopath; when I walked into HW, and asked the herbalist about my thyroid issues, she spent a solid 45 minutes educating me on how my thyroid works, what the issues are, and how to treat them properly. She then spent time providing me supplements, powders, and oils to help my body, walking me through each one and what it does, and even gave me recommendations for websites to go to! I bought two groupons for classes. My first class was a lotion class and the second was for elixirs and herbal teas. As a high school teacher, I appreciated her knowledge she shared with us. Additionally I appreciated the organization of the class, it allowed for information, questions, and modeling. Katya is informative, kind, and professional. I am a fan of the idea of the classes but it really lacks any hands on experience. At both classes, she lectured, answered questions and showed us how to either make lotions or the elixir, but we never got to do it ourselves. She did give us directions to try it at home. As a plus though, I left feeling a lot more confident in the future about trying things myself. Considering the groupon expires at the end of July I imagine there were many groupon buyers trying to book their class before it expired. That would explain the difficulty getting into classes. For my second class it was booked but Katya responded with the next available date for that class, which I very much appreciated. I ended up opting for a different class though, but I did it about 3 weeks in advance. The lesson is that her classes are popular so you have to plan ahead and be flexible. I stopped in here this afternoon to ask some advice and maybe by something that could help me with some minor discomfort. The person that helped me, maybe the manager or owner, was so kind and patient. She took the time to listen and discuss the option, but the the 5 star rating is because she actually didn't try to sell me anything. In fact recommended that maybe I should NOT buy something just yet. She thought I should get more info before spending some money there. This from a small business that is no doubt hurting from all the shutdowns and closures but her focus was on "wellness" not on making a sale. I am so appreciative of this kind of focus and approach. LOVE this place!! A medium sized shop right near the water in Kirkland, it has a very relaxing atmosphere. I recently had a custom Herbal Tincture made to help with my anxiety, and so far it's been working great! The price was extremely affordable too! They have tons of dried herbs, as well as essential oils, waxes and butters to get you started with making your own body products. They also carry many local natural brands from all over Washington. If you are looking to learn more definitely sign up for one of their classes ($20). I've taken the "Body Lotions and Salves" class and it was money well spent! I love just being in the welcoming space that Katya, the owner has created but what keeps me coming back are the specialized teas she has made for me! She has blended customized tea for specific ailments for me and a friend of mine. Both were very effective and calmed our bodies beautifully. As a local aesthetician, I buy a lot of my oils that I use during my natural and organic facials at Herban Wellness. I stopped by at Herban Wellness to buy some anti inflammatory alternatives to ibuprofen as I just sprained my ankle yesterday evening ;-( I already did some research before I visited the store. Katya, the owner suggested the same that I had researched (turmeric extract with curcumins). She gave me several supplements as an option for ingestion as well as some oils and ointments for topical use. The great thing is that she was very honest and informative and did not push anything. She even said that I could just eat turmeric itself. Even though I appreciated her advice I decided against it as I would need to take in a lot of turmeric and according to her it is very bitter. I also love that Katya is trained at Bastyr. I think very highly of that school and therefore feel very comfortable with the knowledge that Katya has to share ;-) Katya also offers classes such as "how to make your own skin care" and "digestive health information", etc. It sounds really good and I hope to have the time to attend one of her classes. With that said,please accept that which is below as a secondary review. Also note, there is no association or link to the owner and/or this reviewer (business, personal, or other). In spite of the positive reviews of Herban Wellness, this review is counter, and here's why: -The owner's business ethic is negligent - three times, she was e-mailed from this reviewer regarding where the herbs were sourced from, and the e-mails (yes, that's plural, as in three) were NOT returned. In not knowing where the herbs are sourced from, the owner is not being TRANSPARENT with customers. It would be ridiculous to go all the way down to the store, just to ask this specific question. And, the intent was to have, in writing, the product source. Source is everything - and is indicative of factors such as cross contamination, quality assurance, and company standards. In not knowing this VITAL piece of information, no trust can be had from the company or the self-proclaimed "herbalist" - it's as simple as that. If you write to a local co-op, for instance, the co-op is completely TRANSPARENT as to where products are sourced from, and will provide the names of suppliers/manufacturers AND encourage consumer at-home research. In addition, at least one of the Herban Wellness videos that voice the "tea of the day" has 'product placement' of camera brand. If you aren't familiar with product placement, do a quick Internet search. Since this is a secondary review (as the original was taken down), the exact source/link is unavailable at this time. Please be mindful when you watch the "tea of the day" videos, however, and scrutinize them for "name dropping" and the aforementioned "product placement." The biggest question to ask is, "is this a heartfelt and genuine recommendation by an authentic company?" Next, addressing the dog in store - this completely unacceptable, as not everyone is fond of dogs (past trauma, allergy, etc.). Past trauma and allergies are two real concerns that affect millions of people daily. This is an inconsiderate approach to business. It's also a potential issue addressing cleanliness and sanitation. Being a conscious, ethical company, involves transparency of product source, open, offensive (not defensive) communication, and active listening. Aiming to exhibit behavior leaning towards "crowd pleasing" ie. responding to on-line reviews to "appease everyone" diverts room for refinement in a profession. Healthy disagreements are OK - ignoring genuine, inquiring customers asking tough health questions is an act of cowardice. read more

I wish I could erase those bad reviews for Katya, we thought both her and the store were wonderful. Hubby and I took a class on how to make herbal syrups and honeys last weekend. It was so informative. Katya is a great teacher and the class environment was structured but informal and we had a great chance to pick her brain. She even helped us put together some blends for each of us that were custom tailored for our needs. I got right to work the next day and made us both some bomb herbal syrups. This shop is great! I went in to look around and see what they had for future reference. Katya, the owner, came over and greeted me and we started chatting. I wound up walking out with a tincture for stress relief that I've been taking for a couple of days now and really like. I was also excited to see that she carries the FES line of flower essences. Those tend to be difficult to find in retail stores and I use them regularly so that was a real find for me.
