I found you a fantastic automotive shop where the staff is friendly while you relax in their comfortable lobby. Herbert Automotive really impressed me with the best service, quality work and value! They have a free coffee bar for customers! Derrick and Nathaniel were our customer service representatives and they were helpful and allowed us to use our coupon we found online and they gave us an additional $10 off. How kind! The best thing is how unbelievably fast it was to get an oil change without an appointment. 20 minutes and they helped me out by offering additional services. After getting my approval, they put on new windshield wiper blades, cabin filter, and an air filter for the motor. The prices were quoted to me and they showed me the old dirty filters. Best of all the mechanics noticed my vehicle had a leaking rubber boot at the axle area. Which was great timing since my vehicle is within warranty and I can have the repair done free of charge at the dealership. I had called another shop about an oil change and they told me my car would have to be dropped off and I could pick it up in six hours. What a joke, no way. Having my oil changed and other items replaced in 20 minutes was a miraculous accomplishment! read more

This place is hit or miss I feel like they hire a lot of young guys here who pick and choose what jobs you wanna do forgetting that all the jobs need to be done. You can definitely tell who's been working there the longest and those that are guys who tend to get stuff done, so I appreciate it other than that they're good at fixing my car, but they always break something in the process last time I came here. Somebody unplugged my sensor in the car. I didn't find that out until my check engine light came on and I went to a different location come to find out there's a lot of things that they said they fix it wasn't so I'm not coming back here. read more

Dropped off my vehicle first thing in the morning after speaking with Derick. Initial interaction went well with approx completion around midday. Called at 3pm after not hearing any updates on what was going on only to be told they have not touched it because parts for another vehicle was taking up the only lift which has been that way since 1030 that morning. I understand some things cannot be controlled but they made No attempt to let me know at any point throughout the day and instead let my car sit there when I could've brought it to another shop and at the very least not wasted a whole day waiting for a repair that was never going to happen. read more

I have been a loyal customer of this store since I moved to Georgia. Not very long mind you, but in this economy, a customer is a customer. I walked into your Cumming store at around 11:30am Friday. There were 2 ladies sitting waiting for their cars. I was 3rd in line. 1st customer left after saying he had a time budget. 2nd customer left with their car completed. I was told there were 2 cars ahead of me, when pressed him for a time. He said "45 minutes". That seemed reasonable, so I waited. I waited for 20 minutes and then left the store completely unacknowledged!! I did learn while I was waiting the garage area has stock issues on some of the necessary items. This was addressed between the employees at the front desk. One if them was speaking on the phone to someone who seemed to be a field representative, or maybe district manager? Imagine placing an in store customer "on hold" while talking to your district manager(?) about "never having a $900k day". I will never go back again. Further more I will later my friends know about the customer service I received. I don't know if the store had a change in management or maybe now they are operating without a manager? But they need to be coached before you lose more business! I'm now across town at Grease Monkey getting top notch customer service from ANTONIO. he know has my business!! I don't normally post bad reviews but I wanted everyone to be aware and proceed with caution. My sister took her car to Herbert automotive today and had quite the experience. We have trusted Herbert for near 20 years to take care of us, and our vehicles and for the most part they've done great. Today however that was far from the case. My sister needed 4 spark plugs and 4 engine coils. This came to a total of near $900, as we operate a similar line of business she brought this invoice back where we did some research and found that she was grossly overcharged. They charged her $99 per engine coil and $57 per spark plug, we found the normal price for these parts is less then half, as spark plugs are listed at $13.84 and coils are $43.01 at many other parts retailers. We understand markups and labor costs but a 125% markup is gross and ridiculous. We genuinely feel that their pricing practices are disgusting and exploitative. If you take your vehicle to any Herbert automotive please proceed with caution and make sure you are doing your due diligence to ensure they are not taking advantage of you the way they have us. read more

The location on Keith's Bridge is horrible. The managers lie, they don't honor commitments and are horrible at communicating. After a recent visit, where they held onto our vehicle for days before doing anything, subsequently holding for 1.5 weeks. lying about what was going on, etc.. I took my vehicle around the corner to Tessier Automotive. John fixed the issue in under 24hours. We are moving all of our business to them. Stay away from Herbert. read more

After getting my car back from service at Herbert Automotive in Cumming (keith bridge rd), it would not start so I took it to another mechanic. Long story short, the mechanic found that Herbert's mechanic used a PLASTIC GLOVE to hold together a cable in the engine! Herbert also installed the battery incorrectly causing a fuse to blow resulting in a costly repair at the new mechanic. There is absolutely no excuse for this kind of incompetence. read more

I've never been more impressed at an automotive shop than at Herbert automotive. The fellow at the front desk, Dave, is something like a savant genius. I pulled in and he already knew my car and who it belonged to (my mom) and I had only ever been a handful of times. That type of man, with his knowledge base, is usually only found at the most prestigious of shops, and yet here he is at Herbert on Keith bridge. I'm not sure even Herbert know what they've got here. Have never had such a poor customer service experience. Brought my car in for repairs they said it was battery. It died after a week, brought to another mechanic and figured out they installed incorrect battery. I brought the battery back for a refund since it was their issue. Agreed to pay labor, just not for wrong part. Asked desk clerk nicely a couple times, and he decided to blow up threatening to call the police. I have used this business for over 10 years, used to be well run. They cared. Could not be farther from what they have as far as staff currently. DON'T GO HERE YOU WILL REGRET IT! read more

I asked if they would return the battery over the phone, and they very rudely agreed since it was the wrong battery. When my husband came in to return the battery, they threatened to call the cops. My wife and I have been going to Herberts Auto for over 15 years to get both our cars emission tested at the Emissions Center on Buford Dam road. WILL NEVER GO AGAIN ! I have never ever had to get out of my car until last Tuesday, where the emission tester ask me to step out of car and wait in the cold weather. There was no reason I needed to leave my vehicle to have emissions tested, first time in over 15 years. The man was extremely rude also. There are plenty other emission centers. We took my 2013 Lincoln navigator there and they said they couldn't look at it and less they took the whole front end off and that would be $400. My husband gave them the go-ahead and I passed by a few days later and it was still sitting the lot exactly where it was left. They never looked at it so I took it home. He proceeded to tell us that they didn't know what was wrong with it so they should just replace the entire engine for $11,000. We took it to a guy who has worked for Ford/Lincoln for 23 years and said it was something easy and would be around $1500. This is a big city but a small town, people talk. Do not use these frauds for any vehicle services. I went in to have an oil leak repaired on my truck. I have a warranty with a $250 deductible. I called Herbert to be sure that they accepted my warranty plan and they said yes. I dropped my truck off, with no word until my truck was ready (4 days later.) When I arrived, they told me I owed $1,400.00. I reiterated that I have a $250.00 deductible and the warranty covers the rest. They looked at me like I had 3 heads and stumbled their words, saying "uhhh...I'll call them." I left without my truck and called the warranty company myself. They confirmed Herbert DID NOT call or submit a claim and since they did work prior to authorization, the claim would be denied if they tried to submit it. Later that day, Dave called to tell me that the warranty company would only cover $500.00 and I owed the rest. Herbert did not even attempt to call my warranty company. This number was made up off the top of their heads. It was a number they were okay with accepting, since they were over-charging in the first place. They just did the work and dropped the bomb on me, without even telling me what was done. They created a BS invoice with no details of the work performed. Herbert purposely performed the work on my truck without speaking to me or the warranty company, knowing that if they didn't call for authorization, it would be denied and they'd be able to get more money out of me. These guys are scammers. While paying the $850.00 to get my truck, I witnessed a young couple expressing an issue with their vehicle after paying to have it fixed by them. Herbert automatically denied the issue, saying "oh that's not the same one, must be a new one" without even looking at it! They are sleazy. These types of places are the reason mechanics get a bad rep. AVOID at all costs. I would NOT recommend. read more

Seemed a bit high so went online and looked at the cost of the parts. Total around $250 in parts. Went to a different auto repair and they did it all for $450. Never going to use Herbert again. They lied to me that my break pad was messed up. Quoted me $300 to fix them. I went to my dad's place to check their price, and 10 minutes later they came out & told me that Herbert Automotive had lied to me, that there was nothing wrong with my breaks, and went as far as to show me. I went in to get emissions done (for registration renewal) and an oil change. I was there for over an hour, paid for both services and was told the receipt for my emissions was waiting for me in my car. When I went to look for it later that day, I could not find it. I called and asked if they could give me the emissions certificate number and they told me they'd call me back (I even need ruined that my registration was due the following day so it was urgent). I never received a call back. I called again the following day and was told that even though they charged me, they actually never did the emissions test. I asked if I brought it back in later that day, if they could get me in an out quickly (as this is now a huge inconvenience -- 9 months pregnant and still working full-time). They told me they could not guarantee that. So then I asked for them to just credit my card back the amount for the emissions test and I would go elsewhere, and I was told that could not be done over the phone either. So now my registration is 4 days late, and I have to go shopping for a new shop to get the emissions test actually done all while hugely pregnant and taking time off work. Oh, and I still have to go back there if I want my money back. read more

I will not continue patronage with Herbert Automotive. My last visit left me with a poor welding job on my exhaust system. I have seen first time welding students in high school perform better work. It was so bad, it was allowing air to enter the exhaust and causing me to fail my emissions inspection. When I brought my vehicle back to the location that worked on it, they blamed it the fact that my exhaust was rusted. Closer inspection revealed that they had never bothered to clean off the surface with a wire wheel or even a grinding disc. They blamed their shotty work on my truck, and took absolutely no ownership of their welds. They eventually refused to work for on it after I had brought it in again and pretty much told me they didn't care anymore. Bad attitudes and not standing behind your work is why I will not be coming back to Herbert Automotive. I wrote a glowing review about this business in 2013 - Unfortunately, my experiences/their practices have changed - three strikes and you're out. Today: I had brakes serviced. When they called to say it was ready, I was told charges were $378. When I went to pick up the vehicle the presented bill was $512. When questioned, the total was then $357. Last year: I had $600 work done on my daughter's vehicle (repair noisy front wheel) which proved not to fix the problem and was faced with a shrug as they had 'done the work' and replaced some unnecessary part. I was surprised at the experience. Earlier this year: My son had a similar experience at another location - quoted one price, presented with a much higher bill on pickup. Was stuck paying it. I wrote this off to youth and failure to get a written estimate/communicate effectively. Apparently not. It is apparent that this family-owned company that built its reputation on good work at a fair price has changed its policy. We will be looking for another local repair shop as this one fits 'the stereotype'. Caveat Emptor. read more

Usually go here for all automotive inspections, or, emissions and oil changes, tire rotations. Went in today. Fast but man up front was short and rude. When asked for my email I politely declined and in a condescending tone said "well, it would've saved you $15 on your oil change", I had already inserted my card and being shocked and the tone of his voice I just paid without saying a word and left. Be warned I have had several occasions we have had problems with them, and when you call they are extremely condescending and actually start reciting Georgia law when no lawsuit is mentioned to begin with. Are lawsuits with them such a common occurrence they know them by heart? 1st occasion they put full weight non-synthetic in a SRT-8 with requires 0 weight full synthetic they should have notified wrong package immediately (fully document in paperwork) I write it up as a simple mistake never call or make big deal even though I took car for immediate oil change after somewhere else. Next occurrence my wife says to give them a second chance, we take another car in for an oil change and a "27 point inspection" "all boxes checked ok" within 36 hours of picking car up (barely driven until today) radiator fluid blows out of "loose" coolant bleeding bolt not sure why anyone would touch it, but again no one has been under the hood since the last oil change. All we know is shop next to where car overheated said bleeder bolt was extremely loose. Who knows, could be a coincidence with the radiator fluid , perhaps not. I will no longer risk such mistakes or coincidences getting the wrong oil put in my vehicle (documented) or perhaps worse next time. read more
