Terrible food and service, even by airport standards. The waitress admitted the menu was outdated after our first two choices weren't available. My beer-cheese burger arrived overcooked and missing both the beer cheese and spicy mayo. Service was unfriendly, and three meals with only water cost nearly $80. Save yourself the disappointment and eat before heading to the airport.

Before I begin I would like to say that this review is based solely upon my personal experiences and my personal experiences alone, so without further ado let's begin!!!... My wife and I stopped here for a quick bite, actually my wife just ate because I ate at home and was not hungry and she didn't because she ran a few morning errands before we left the house... She ordered chicken quesadillas for her meal, she wanted sweet tea but they didn't have it so she opted for ginger ale instead.. I will assume she enjoyed her meal because she didn't say otherwise.. We chose the option to pay through the QR code which is quite convenient and simple.. The waitress was nice, she even asked if I wanted anything to drink after I told her I was not dining, just my wife so I thought that was kind of her... It was quiet and calm with just a few people inside dining..

It is an airport bar so I expect the food to be a little pricey but it was extra. I got the chicken sandwhich and they forgot the ranch and it was so dry, didn't even come with cheese or anything. My boyfriend got a cheeseburger and they forgot the special ketchup that was also supposed to go with it. There was something in my water, no big deal but when I asked for another one it seemed like it was a bother. Service wasn't great. I think next time in the Norfolk airport I'll try a different place to eat.

The food was actually very good ! Very casual but a little pricey. I got a BLT sandwich but the lettuce was moldy, also I had a piece of coleslaw in my sprite

Located on Norfolk Airport, military themed pub, veteran owned beer Bold Mariner Brewing Company on tap, great beer by the way.

This is a fairly new restaurant in the Norfolk airport. I wanted to try something new. Luckily, it wasn't too busy & I was greeted by the waitress and seated myself to a booth seat. The menu decent, I was in the mood for fish & ordered the grilled salmon Caesar salad. This was a tasty dish and I have no complaints about the food or service. When I fly out from Norfolk again, I'll definitely try some more food on the menu.

Staff was extremely hospitable and very accommodating. Really a great spot to grab a solid bite and a cold beer. Craft beers and great food is always a plus! Get the cheese fries!!!

The namesake zaatar and hummus appetizer, overpriced store purchased items that contains zero zaatar. FAIL

Ordered the zataar hummus and pita appetizer. Maybe its because its virginia, but did the managers think nobody would notice that the over priced sabra hummus and stacey's pita chips contained absolutely no zataar whatsoever?

They don't serve food. It appears to be a restaurant/bar but many customers walked away due to No food being served.

The Public House - Fried "soft pretzel" bite.

Well we finally made it back here for dinner on a Wednesday night. We started with the pretzel…read moreflight. SO disappointing. The sauces were good, especially the beer cheese (at least they haven't changed that). What was pretty terrible were the pretzels themselves. They take the longer soft pretzel logs and cut them into bite size pieces. And then they are FRIED. Who fries soft pretzels? They were hard and greasy. This is the first time in our history of ordering a soft pretzel appetizer that we just couldn't finish it. They were that bad. For entrees Hubby ordered the crispy chicken Caesar and I got the burger with fries. Hubby's salad was huge, but there was way too much Parmesan cheese. He never did get a good taste of the dressing because of that. The chicken on the other hand was well fried and still juicy inside. I ordered my burger medium, and it came out mid-rare, which is how I eat them anyway. The burger itself was salty - guessing the flattop maybe hasn't been cleaned after lunch? The top bun spent a little too much time on the flat top as well. The pickles they use are sour (some people like that, I don't mind), but if you are not a fan of sour pickles, you'll want to skip them. Service was fantastic and it's a very clean place (restrooms are particularly clean). I am sure it is a great place to go for drinks - the bar is pretty extensive. But since we don't bar hop anymore, I don't think we will be going back. One last word on the pretzel appetizer because I am still shaking my head over that. If you want to serve pretzel bites so there are more ways to try all the dipping sauces, just purchase pretzel bites and bake them.

The waitress we had was really friendly & provided efficient service. The beer list is extensive and there's also plenty of mixed drinks and liquor as well. The menu is filled with a lot of different options. There's something for everyone for sure. A lot of casual but elevated bar foods. I went with the chicken tender platter and I'd get it every time I go back. Perfectly cooked tenders, fresh cut fries, a bowl of their homemade Mac and cheese & coleslaw. All for think $19? That's a steal, and ended up taking half of it home. This is definitely a place that we will continue to come back to. There's another bar & pool tables in the back as well I believe!

There are 3 machines in the back where there had been a guy playing on the machine, but he had gotten up and was no where near the machines at this time. We ordered a drink and my wife went over to see what the machines were, what games they had and if they required cash. The "man" in question walks up and asks her "what the fuck are you doing?" She calmly tried to explain that she wanted to see what the machines were and how to play. He continued cursing at her "you can't fucking touch people's machines" "this is gambling". "I've got $350 fucking dollars on this machine" She tried to explain she was sorry and didn't know and he continued to speak to her disrespectfully and cursing at her. She walked away and asked for our tab. I got up walked over and asked him "is that how you speak to people?" He starts trying to explain himself and I reiterated that he could have said things very differently and she didn't know and that's unacceptable. He tells me to talk to the bartender. The bartender comes over and as we are explaining what happened, she says "you probably shouldn't be pushing buttons". There were no questions asked and not one word was said to the douchebag on the machine. We don't live in a state that has gambling. We didn't know he had money on the machine and we certainly weren't trying to spend his money. Ask questions, explain yourself but you don't speak to my wife that way and you will not curse at her and think it's acceptable. We were offered to go cups to take our drinks with us as we left. We were so pissed and upset, we left our full drinks on the bar and left. I can promise you this, we will not ever return here and we will make sure everyone we know is aware of how this establishment treats people who aren't regulars. It's supposed to be a safe environment for all. We didn't feel safe and we didn't feel supported. Shame on you Mr Douchebag and shame on you MJs tavern.

Stopped by for a burger and a beer to drown in my solitude. Had great service. Prompt, attentive and genuine. Only downside was some pretentious guy named Jeff kept whining about the hostess and the service being "special needs" because he couldn't get his group prompt service under 15 minutes on a special holiday. If it wasn't for some derogative guy whining off the bell about how the service wasn't up to par every couple minutes I'd have enjoyed what would've been quite a depressing day for me. Other than that, burger was damn heavenly. Beer was cold and good. Service was grand. Some people just ruin it for others. Great spot, great burger, good beer and good folks. B.W.

The last time I set foot inside their Pleasure House Rd location was at least 10 years ago. I celebrated my birthday there as my friends were kind enough to take me out. It was a Sunday morning and I sought out a place that offered brunch. I noticed 1608 was open and decided to head over, especially since I haven't visited them in ages. When I walked in, I noticed their dining room is dimly lit - much darker than I remember. I was greeted immediately by a kind hostess and she proceeded to sit me at a nearby table and provided me with menus (one food, one alcohol). I took my time looking over the food menu, and in the meantime I ordered a pint of Center of the Universe's Bald Irishman and a bottle of Boylan's Black Cherry soda (they do not have a soda fountain). What made this visit memorable was that 1608's bartender, Hunter, was an old acquaintance from back in my restaurant days. He spotted me and came over to say hi. After my meal, I continued to catch up with him at the bar. His presence made a pleasant experience even more fantastic. I thought I was hungry, so I ordered 2 dishes - Smoked Ham Fried Rice and the Breakfast Burrito. According to Hunter, every item is made fresh in house. After biting into each, you could tell that's true. Both the fried rice and burrito were delicious and boasted lots of flavor. Although I prefer my fried rice a bit simpler (if you give me just garlic fried rice, I am SET), 1608's fried rice (veggies, garlic, soy, basmati rice, 2 runny eggs, smoked ham) had a lot going on, which made for a flavorful dish. I liked the rice and the burrito (Korean style fried chicken breast, scrambled eggs, cilantro lime, cheddar, pico de gallo) a lot. I didn't finish either because it was a lot of food (I really thought I was hungry, haha). But these leftovers turned into a fantastic dinner later on. 1608 looked clean and organized, although I thought it was a little too dark inside, at least for brunch service. That's not a dealbreaker since everything from the food to the service was as excellent as I remember. I hope to return soon with my mom. Regardless, I'll find my way back eventually. Thank you, 1608 Crafthouse! And great seeing you again, Hunter! JV

We returned a second time and super busy on a Tuesday same time-why? Fish and Chips Thursday (1/2 price). Not too long of a wait though -1/2 hour and went fast as we had a drink at the Bar. We tried a couple of appetizers-goat cheese dip and fire cracker shrimp-both tasty. The Bacon stuffed Gouda burger was ordered on both visits -Ground Chuck/Proper Tavern Burger and it was that good! Fish and Chips were also ordered both visits-perfectly battered Haddock living up to the Tavern billing. The Tavern Monte Cristo is one to try. Battered and fried sandwich is never a bad idea-we loved it! We had a mix of draft beers (import)-they had Carlsberg (Danish) which isn't easy to find as well we had a Scottish Ale. Overall, an ample import draft list. Service was super engaged and upbeat from beginning to end on both visits. They are a Futbol Tavern and they mentioned they do get quite busy and have an even more of a fun atmosphere during the season-too bad we only visit during the Futbol off season-summer. We saw banners for Oktoberfest celebrations. Specials Monday-Thursday including Whiskey, wine and Wellington! Also, have a couple of sister locations in Hampton and Fredericksburg. Most definitely has been added to our must stops when visiting the Beach!

My husband got the shepherds pie and he said this was an easy 10/10 the lamb was cooked perfectly. Great seasoning and overall flavor this is a hit. I ordered the corned beef and cabbage... man it's going to be hard to try other things on the menu because this was actually perfect. Well, one thing I would LOVE to see is some gravy on the mashed potatoes or even on the side. The potatoes taste great themselves but something in this dish is lacking diverse flavor I feel like that would have brought everything together to make it 10/10. I will still get it again though! Beware for all of my savory people... the cabbage is cooked to have a sweeter taste idk if I loved that but I added a little salt and it was fine. Carrots and mustard were great additions. Needless to say, I rarely ever finish my entire place and I stuffed myself full of corned beef to make sure I got every left bit. Can't wait to come back and try the fish and chips next!
