Based on the name I went with the special recommended by the server and my friend(a healthy and picky eater) got the corn beef omelette. My food was great but I couldn't finish it all. There's a couple diners around this area. To me and my family this one is pretty much known as the worst one in the area. We've given this place a few shots to turn our opinion around and the servers have never come across as rude per say but the food is never warm it is always cold, there could be you and literally 2 other groups in the diner and they'll still take 45 min to get your food. There's like an old people ball room in the back that I've seen full allot of the time, I think they use most of their focus on the old people in the back. I wish I could give at least 2 stars cause I haven't gotten the vibe that the workers are bad or rude people but with the service always taking insanely long and the food always and I mean Always cold I can't bring myself to lie and say they deserve anything more than 1 star. read more

Second update: we have been several times since my last update and have had less than satisfactory dinner experiences. They used to have a good evening crowd for early dinners but only 1 or 2 tables were filled during our last visits. After our recent visit I feel like they must be struggling with kitchen help. The servers are always friendly and efficient. But the food (mainly the dinner dishes) is hugely disappointing. The main dishes are no longer delicious, just ok, and the vegetable of the day (whatever it is) has ranged from okay to looking like leftovers from a previous diner's plate. It has not been tasty or appetizing. The burgers are good, desserts are awesome and the salads are fresh but that's not enough to keep me coming back. The owners are good people and I'm sure they must not see this. I hope they will be able to get back to the good food they were known for, I'm hoping they will recognize this decline and address it. In the meanwhile, until I see better reviews again, I regret that I'll have to take my business elsewhere. read more

This was our first time & probably our last. Came for breakfast after Sunrise Easter service on the beach. Everyone was friendly & greeted us as we arrived. The restaurant was very basic and outdated with old over stuffed furniture in the back room where we were seated. The carpet appeared worn & dirty. They were not busy, but we had to wait for our water & and coffee. Coffee arrived, but not hot. We placed our orders and after a while, we were served. I asked for crispy scrapple and it arrived cremated! Couldn't break it or cut it. Eggs, grits & toast were barely warm. I just wanted a biscuit and sausage gravy...... gal asked if I wanted home fries or grits, I said no, I can't eat that much...... she brought out a biscuit cut in half with brown gravy an a few tiny pieces of sausage, it was good, but brown gravy is for mashed potatoes and steak or pork chops.....I ordered water only.... And my bill was a crazy $12.38 I asked why so high for a biscuit and gravy? Mom & Pops is your typical local diner joint. Don't expect anything too fancy or to be "wow'd" here. Our eggs Benedict and egg meal was nothing out of the ordinary. The hot cocoa was delicious though so it stole the show. Service was fast and friendly. Overall just a very casual and typical visit to a local diner. Stopped in for a late Sunday breakfast. It was very busy but our service was still on point. Cute Christmas drink menu was available so I tried the Apple Pie Mimosa. My friend had the Christmas Margarita. Both were delicious. Breakfast was good. Nothing earth shattering but good homemade food. The waitresses appeared to be disheveled and kept switching who was serving us but other than a forgotten orange juice had us covered. We will be back to try lunch. read more

I tried the special of the day, which was lasagna and a salad. The "Caesar salad" was a bunch of lettuce tossed in Caesar dressing. The lasagna wasn't bad. There wasn't much presentation, but the flavors were good. I can say the same thing about the tiramisu. The best part of the meal was the bread. I've been wanting to try this place for a while, it's conveniently located right around the corner from home. I would also say pricing is pretty reasonable. I took my son here for lunch one afternoon when he was out of school. Funny about the name, because of course I'm a mom and my sons nickname is pop. Lol I ordered the gyro. It was very good, The lamb was perfectly cooked & the tzatziki sauce was very flavorful. My son got a BLT on sourdough, his bread was extremely hard. The bacon was also kind of skimpy. We also got spanakopita to share, It was good however I prefer mine to be on more on the flaky side. I would certainly give it a try again, maybe they were just having a little bit of an off day. But all in all service was great, they were quick and efficient so for that I cannot complain. read more

I'm sorry but my wife came home with a bag of food from this establishment and right off the bat me and my friends smelt something odd once she walked into the house. Once she opened the bag and the plates it was clearly the food. She ordered fried shrimp and fries, crab mushrooms, Italian sausage pasta and a side of chicken gumbo. The chicken gumbo was bland and boring but the worst was the mushrooms. The smell of the mushrooms smelt like wet sweaty gym socks and believe it or not me and my friend dared each other to eat one each (I know that's sad) and when we did it was worse than we thought! The taste was disgusting and we literally felt like we were both on the television show Fear Factor eating disgusting food for money, except we weren't and we lost money! I'm sorry but we had to throw this food away and go somewhere else. So please don't bother wasting your money or time here. Now all we got from this place was an upset stomach and a smelly car! Came here on a whim with my man and it was decent. Not crowded literally one other person in the restaurant with us...that being said service was quite slow. The menu was small and when the food did come it was hot but not seasoned. My home fries were a little hard, eggs watered down, the fried apples were food and the country fried steak was good. Decided to go here on Tuesday with my co workers. Someone recommended this place to me so I decided to give it a try and I'm so glad I did! We went around 12noon and there were only about 6 people there. We were seated right away of course. The place has a nice vibe to it. It has nice decor as well. I went to the bathroom before we ordered and it did need some work but not bad. The waiter was very informative and sweet. They place had an old country feel to it. I ordered a fish sandwich and it was delicious! The fish was fried to perfection and the fries were home made. They had the most tastiest tarter sauce I've ever had, it was from scratch and FANTASTIC! They need to bottle it and sell it. This place is down the street from Naval Station Norfolk which is where I work so very convenient. My friends food all looked delicious as well. They had a mimosa menu but we didn't try and but they sounded great. Overall this place is amazing! Try it you won't be disappointed. read more

Awesome hole in the wall! Small quiet clean. Polite server greeted immediately. Coffee was fresh and hot. My only issue is the omelet was salty. It's also a Poké stop so you can farm while you wait. It's a DINNER don't expect your food for 10-15 min that's normal and honestly kinda fast if your use to dine in. Upon arriving to this restaurant for breakfast I immediately got the creeps. I had them the entire time I was there, but I was hungry and as I'm not that familiar with the Norfolk area I stayed and ordered an orange juice, scrambled eggs, hash browns, corned beef hash and rye toast. -orange juice was warm so I put ice in it from my water glass -scrambled eggs were hot and tasty -hash browns were lukewarm and bland -corned beef hash was fluffy and very good but also lukewarm -rye toast tasted like the bread was homemade -service was on point But like I said I had the creeps the entire time I was there and just wanted to eat my food and get out of there. I don't know if it was how dated and worn out the place looked or the creepy people in there. I was wigged out and didn't even have the nerve to take any pictures. AWKWARD! read more

About once every two weeks, my friend Isaac and I like to try out different restaurants around where either he lives in Virginia Beach or where I live in Norfolk. This most recent time we got together we tried out Mom and Pop's. Initially it dosen't look like a place you see and think "I have to try that place"; however, in retrospect I'm glad we decided to eat here. This place has several options; however, our waitress was very patient and helpful in answering all of our questions. On the menu there were several different sandwiches, pastas, and even Greek food (and not too many restaurants in Hampton Roads offer Greek). There were so many options my friend and I decided on getting a appetizer so we could decide on something, which was the bacon cheese fries. They were pretty good, just needed a little salt and Texas Pete, both of which were on hand at the restaurant so that was a plus. I finally decided on the "Mom and Pops Burger" which was a hand-patted burger with lettuce, tomato, mayo, and a thick slice of ham and cheese on top. It came with fries and I also got a cup of ranch on the side. The burger was so good and juicy, you could tell that it did not come from a frozen party, that was grade A ground beef. I was sold after one bite. As a side note: I used my signature of Texas Pete and Ranch as dipping sauce for my side of fries, very delicious. Very rarily do I get dessert at a restaurant, but after finishing our appetizers and our meals, both me and my friend wanted more. The options of dessert were just as extenstive as the rest of the menu. I got the Baklava, which was so sweet and flaky, and my friend got the Italian creme cake. I stole a bite of it, and it was really good , soft, and fluffy. I almost switched our dessert plates. Lol All in all I would return again, and next time I would like to try the shrimp parmesan, cause it sounded pretty tasty. Nestled in Norfolk sits Mom & Pop's a family owned restaurant, I believe. From the outside it may look a little obscure but fear not one you step inside. The interior was wide open and welcoming with an immediate bar to the left and open doning area to the right with a prosterior banquet room. Our server that we had that day was very helpful and nice. I was taken aback by the pink interior, but the glass designs that were the headboard of each both were a cool touch. I had a sea otter whereas my buddy has Sebastian the crab. We split ordered cheese fries with bacon and they were skinny dark fries with warm cheese and yummy bacon. I then ordered the open faced hot turkey per suggestion of our server it came with veggies, mashed potatoes and gravy and a side soup or salad and I opted for the chicken and rice which was good. They had Texas Pete hot sauce which was a win. The sandwich came out and the gravy seemed to skin over, so at first I was worried, but it tasted great on the warm buttered toast. The mashed potatoes were fair, but what sold me was the veggies. I ended the meal with an Italian cream slice of cake. It has a hint of lemon, but I was told is not overpowering. What was overpowering was the yummy taste. In the end it was a fair shot to give this place a try. I'd honestly say 3.5, but I don't think they do half stars. Came here around 6:10 after a soccer game for some dinner. Super slow. The only other people we saw left right as we sat down, which was great because we were starving and assumed that meant it would take no time to get our food... mistake number one. We put our order in with Danny and maybe 10-15 minutes later she comes out with a gigantic tray of food and I'm puzzled because we're the only ones there and we didn't order a third of what was in that tray. But she heads to the back where they have a banquet hall and my heart breaks lol. But no big deal. Then a few minutes later she comes out with more food and I'm like okay it's our turn. But no. She swings around to the back and at this point it's been about 20 minutes. So I get up and go take a peak at where all this food is going and there's about 20 ppl in the banquet hall! This wouldn't have been as frustrating if there was ANY communication from Danny at all. But she took our order and never said a word to us after. We ordered a Turkey club and a chicken wrap... i didn't understand why a sandwich and a wrap would take 30 minutes to get. So after waiting until 6:40 we left. I had to bring them a sandwich back that the associate acknowledged was not prepared correctly although my simple request for no mayo was received in order to receive any sort of compensation.
