Super cute spot with a quaint, cutesy vibe. When I visited, there was an unpleasant smell--possibly just someone nearby rather than the café itself--but it was noticeable. Service was average, which is expected for a café, and the cashier appeared to be in training, which I didn't mind at all. I visited on 12/10/25 and ordered what I believe was a maple bourbon matcha. Unfortunately, the syrup overpowered the matcha, so it wasn't my favorite. That said, I enjoy this company overall and would definitely come back to try a different drink and to hopefully bump up the rating. read more

I really wanted to support this business because of the incredible mission they have--feeding those in need, no questions asked. That alone deserves recognition, and it's clear they genuinely care about the community they serve. The baristas were all awesome and provided great, friendly service. The pastry case is also impressive--everything looks absolutely delicious. I ended up getting the Green Onion Cream Cheese Pop-Tart, and wow... it was amazing. Savory instead of sweet, perfectly balanced, and honestly one of the most memorable pastries I've had in a while. I also ordered a drip coffee. While it was good, I do wish they offered soy milk. They do have oat and almond milk, and the coffee menu is fairly straightforward--drip, americano, cappuccino, etc.--no specialty drinks, but the basics are covered. The space itself is really pretty. I love the wooden ceiling, the house-like feel, and especially the wall of green plants--it's warm and inviting. That said, the layout could use some improvement. Most of the seating is for two people, there are no large group tables, and it gets loud quickly. We were able to find a tucked-away spot in the back for our group of three so we could actually talk (which is kind of the point of a coffee shop). The sofa and chair were very comfortable, but that area is a high-traffic zone. Staff frequently passed through to grab breakfast burritos, and people were constantly heading to the bathroom, which made it feel disruptive. The wicker table back there is also too large and really impedes the walkway for both staff and customers. With only a single bathroom, a line formed, which took away from the overall ambiance--and unfortunately, the bathroom had a strong chemical smell. All that said, this place does so much good for the community, and I truly admire what they stand for. I'll absolutely continue to support them--next time, I'll probably just take my coffee to go. Keep up the good work and the amazing mission. read more

I finally got a chance to visit Heretic for real after following them on socials for quite awhile. I was impressed by their community involvement, especially their mission to feed people after the SNAP benefits were cut last year. That said, the place itself was very charming - lots of off-street parking, large outdoor seating area as well as inside seating, clean restroom, cheery and friendly staff, a barista that knew how to make a real cortado in a non-paper cup, and tasty and fresh pastries. The carmelized-onion Asiago cheese danish I ordered took a bit to make it to the table due to all the people that were there on a Saturday morning but it was definitely worth waiting for! Looking forward to the next time I'm in Portland and can go get one of those cortados and something yummy to eat with it. read more

After reading numerous rave reviews on Google, I stopped in to give them a try. I ordered an 8oz cappuccino ($6). First and foremost, the quality is solid. Staff are friendly, and this place has a great vibe. I'm sure I'll come back. Bonus tip: they offer 'miso caramel' as a syrup option. It's a cute shop that leans into the "heretic" aesthetic with ample seating indoors as well as outdoors. There's a nice garden and a spacious parking lot for Heretic Coffee. I got the miso caramel latte, decent but nothing to write home about. read more
