Herfy's looks like one of those old fashioned burger stands that's never evolved from the '70's but for a burger or teriyaki - surprise - they are all right. Prices are steeper than expected. Got an order of chili cheese fries which were enough for 2 people, holy cow. Wasn't expecting that. The chili was not the best but the fries were the frozen crinkle cut kind and were fresh and crisp on the outside, soft on the inside like fries should be. The burger on sourdough was OK, on par with a Jack in the Crack, er Box hamburger. The burger was clearly just made for me and the bread was great. Also, the meat wasn't frozen. I had sticker shock - $20.58 for just these things plus a large Diet. I may not go back because of that but we'll see. The little place has pictures drawn by kids on one wall with business cards pinned into a wooden post in the middle of the dining area. It's worn but well loved. The gal working was really kind and explained the menu to me when I walked in while I was trying to figure out what I wanted. They have a long list of shakes. We live close by Herfy's. It used to be happy burger! It is now run by a nice Asian couple and they do a lot of different foods. From burgers and fries to teriyaki! What we love are the shakes. They make great thick old fashioned shakes with lots of flavors to choose from. I've had blueberry, raspberry, strawberry. Love the berries. They are real as there are always berries in the bottom of my cup! 5 stars for the shakes. The reason I only gave it 3 stars is for the interior of the place. It is really run down with old tables and chairs. I think it's clean but I really wouldn't eat in. Not very comfortable. I think they could put some effort into updating it a bit. Doesn't have to be luxury, just some newness. Other then that you won't be disappointed with their food. We have had burgers there before and they were good. Fries were really good, especially curly and waffle, but burger patty left something to be desired - tasted dry/frozen. It's a shame because the buns are really good and portion size is great. I can't believe all the good reviews, I was so disappointed. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger and fried mushrooms, the burger was a tiny little overcooked patty, I thought they must have forgotten the cheese until I pulled it apart and saw there was some in there, the bun was way too thick and dry, there was a little smear of ketchup, I had to add mayo and ketchup to try and help with how dry it was. The mushrooms were frozen, which I'm guessing most are, but these were especially water logged and soggy and when I bit into then a bunch of water came out, yuck! On top of all this the food is very expensive. Really, go to any other burger joint, you'll get tastier food and likely spend less. I'd give it two stars because I actually ate it, but I'm taking one away for the outrageous prices. read more

I always drive by Herfy's and finally decided to try it. I've heard and read mixed reviews about this place. I ordered a salmon burger, fish and chips, waffle fries, and onion rings to go. I ignored the other mediocre reviews and tried this place for myself. Big mistake. The burger deluxe had lettuce, tomato and sauce but the burger was like eating a hockey puck. We got two of them for lunch one day and my wife and I were extremely disappointed. The buns were tough and tasteless too. I will say that the French fries were hot, crispy and tasty. The woman who took my order was really friendly. I ordered the single cheeseburger meal with curly fries and subbed a small vanilla milkshake. The portions are pretty generous and cost is average (though maybe expensive for quality). I paid about $15 plus tip for the meal. The cheeseburger comes with mayo, ketchup, mustard, lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickles on it. The burger patty was too thin and small compared to the bun. The party lacked flavor and was a bit dry. The bun was too large and almost had a crunchy texture. I wasn't very satisfied with the burger. I did enjoy the curly fries. They were hot and tasted good. I also liked my vanilla milkshake. Pop was flat, spicy chicken burger was stringy chicken smothered in ketchup, took one bite and threw it away. The bacon burger was over cooked, under seasoned and the lettuce was limp. We have been looking forward to trying this place for months after all the great reviews. Ended up at Jack in the box for half the money and a much better meal. Came into Herfy's to grab a burger for lunch. This little establishment is so adorable and sets you back decades once inside. Makes you feel like you're eating in the 70's. They have 26 Milkshakes available and many seafood, burger, and chicken options. I went with their special, a mushroom bacon cheeseburger with fries and a drink for $10.00. The burger was gorgeous. It looked so picture perfect I stared at it for a minute before diving in. It tasted pretty good, not the best I've had especially at a Herfy's but it hit the spot. The crinkle cut fries were delicious, hot, and fresh. What would make this burger joint a little tastier is if they flame grilled their burgers. The music playing was from a Christian radio station. Which I really liked. The Staff there were m nice and got our out order out fast. I ordered a triple burger and it was HUGE! Best onion burger I've had yet. Not the half-ass type of onion burger. You know the kind with just a bunch of raw onions thrown on? Super melty sauteed onions, cheesy, and wonderful. They have deep fried zucchini which are phenomenal and come in a really big portion (if you order a large.) Also, the deep fried mushrooms are juicy, not greasy, and delicious. Seemed clean, the lady at the counter was very pleasant. Lots of things on the menu, and there should be something for everyone. Good kids menu also. Tons of different milkshakes, mozzarella sticks, fried zucchini and mushrooms, and quite a few other items. As far as sandwiches, there are several types of burgers, a few types of fish sandwiches, at least 4 different chicken sandwiches, and even gyoza. I got the teriyaki burger, and it was quite good. Nice flavor, lettuce was crispy, and it had a slice of grilled pineapple on it. The fries were some of the best fast-food fries I've had in a long time. Crinkle cut, piping hot, crispy, with fluffy interior. And they don't skimp on them. Service was a little slow, but not bad at all given that everything is made to order. OK - I read down through all of the previous reviews and saw some that weren't so favorable. The good news is that it's under new ownership & the girl with the hygiene problem is long gone. The music is pleasant and at an appropriate volume ( I hate loud restaurants!) The place is immaculate, the menu is huge and varied - the food is as good as anything you'd ever expect to find at a locally-owned burger joint. We especially love the fries, (a generous portion, very crispy, and perfectly salted) the cheeseburgers, and the fried cod sandwich. Back when I was in high school in the '70s there were Herfy's everywhere and they were a popular hang-out, and why not? Great burgers, fries, and shakes at a reasonable price. When I was in college, the Herfy's in the U-District received a great deal of my hard-pressed dimes, because the food was good, ample, and still inexpensive (back then my future-wife won a $50 gift certificate to Herfy's and we ate like royalty for weeks). Sadly, several years ago the local Herfy's chain lost out to the multinational corporations (McDonalds, Burger King, Wendy's, etc), and Seattle was for a long time Herfy's-less. And then, eerily, something happened. Herfy's started to crop up again in out-of-the-way areas, like replicating pods in Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Herfy's in Edmonds is one of those places... Now, the Herfy's in Edmonds used to be Happy Burger, and Happy Burger was awesome. You could build your burger anyway you liked it using the side condiment bar (loaded with sauces, pickles, onions, lettuce, tomatoes, etc). When Happy Burger turned into a Herfy's, I was both excited and skeptical. Here was a name from my youth, but reappearing at the loss of a great burger joint from my meliorating age. Could past and present coalesce in a meeting of the mouths? Could I dare be so bold to hope? I wasn't disappointed. The burgers are phenomenal, the condiment bar is still there, but now accompanied by a huge menu that includes teriyaki, salmon, and chicken to name but a few. My son and I ate here today. My mushroom burger was OK. It did not taste as fresh as I like. Iceberg lettuce is not what I want on a burger. Fries tasted like they had been frozen. I did not see the iced tea machine until after I paid for our order. I asked to pay for an iced tea and they lady behind the counter handed me a cup and waived away my money.
