Located next to Boiling point, this place sells a couple of things including mochi donuts, korean hot dogs, bubble waffles and bubble tea. I have only been here twice for the bubble tea but service has been fast and it has been solid both times. Have tried jasmine milk tea as well as ube milk cream with taro balls. I do really like their taro balls, chewy and tasty and everything tastes fresh. Solid place to grab drinks. read more

Back when I lived in the Bay Area, Happy Lemon used to be in my regular boba rotation, perhaps visiting once a month or so. I found their drinks to have by far the most caffeine of any other boba place - it would tend to make me feel quite jittery and jumpy for several hours after drinking. Happy Lemon has now spread to quite a number of cities in the US. I recently decided to stop by the Edmonds location to see if anything changed from my last visit to Happy Lemon several years ago. Boba Milk Tea, Large, 50% Sweet, Less Ice ($6.25) - This drink is similar to how I remember it - perfect balanced sweetness with a lot of body, allowing the tea taste to come through and meld with the other ingredients. They add a ton of milk powder, resulting in a drink that also feels like it's on the verge of being gritty, especially due to the residue that coats the tongue as you drink. I feel like the tea isn't quite as strong - while the flavor comes through, the bitterness of the caffeine is very muted. I waited for the jitters to arrive but they never came. The boba is just a bit on the firmer side, but exhibits a very pleasant chew throughout. I'd say overall this is a solid drink that I'd be happy with in most settings. I always take the time to visit this place when I'm in Edmonds. The staff are really nice and very patient when it comes to helping us choose things we haven't tried before. It's always clean and the style and lighting is nice. Sure, sometimes there is a wait but it's a popular place and because of that, parking can sometimes be a challenge. However, people are moving in and out pretty quickly. The Mochinuts are a chewy ring of deliciousness but the choices tend to be limited. You get your mochido, bubble tea (happy lemon) and corn dog (chun chung) 3 in 1 restaurant. Ambiance: The one thing that stood out to me was how dirty every single table was. Every table I checked out had some sort of stain on them-- whether it be grease or crumps. Some tables that were put together from two smaller tables had their edges all dirty and it's evident they haven't cleaned them for a while. The floor was sticky as well. Other than that, it was a cutest decorated place and very Instagram worthy :) Service: Food came out in around ten minutes-- we ordered two corn dogs and a pack of three Mochi donuts. It thought it was pretty decent timing-- no complaints there. Cashier was doing his job, not excellent but would answer your questions. But lowkey I think he thought I was asking useless questions from the way he answered my questions lol. But he wasn't rude about it so it's okay! I first saw the Happy Lemon bubble waffle in action on YouTube in a video by a duo based in Honolulu. It looked good, but I was uncertain of whether it would be as good in person as it looked on TV. So, I looked up Happy Lemon to see if they had any locations closer to me and found this Edmonds location a few miles from the house. After running 21.84 miles over the past 7 days, I decided to celebrate by trying out the bubble waffle. Arriving around 6:00 p.m. today, Monday 14 August 2023, I placed my order for an original bubble waffle and Tiramisu salted cheese (abbreviated SC on my receipt) at 6:04 p.m. and the workers were on filling it. By 6:12 p.m. I was out the door with my waffle and dipping sauce in hand. The bubbles of the waffle were partially filled with the waffle and partially filled with air. It was light and fluffy and a sweet flavor. The Tiramisu salted cheese was more of a rich flavor, which paired well with the sweetness of the waffle. I revisited the Happy Lemon in Edmonds after a long time (since another location opened closer to me in Lynnwood) and I was pleasantly surprised to see its new renovations! There are new seating areas, which allows more people to sit in and the addition of board games builds the potential for a fun hang out spot! I absolutely love this spot for my personal favorite - ube fresh milk with taro balls. They also make delicious mochinuts with a variety of flavors that change throughout the week! I came to this place multiple times. I love the drinks choices and their bubble waffles. Mochinuts are not my favorite, it's too sweet for me. I tried different kinds of hotdogs also, but they're not really satisfied my pallete. People may have different opinion with me, but I always come back for their drinks & waffles. What sets Happy Lemon apart is the diverse menu, which is perfect if you're a bubble tea fan looking to try something different. I went last time with the cold, fresh, sweet (but not sugary) ube milk, which comes with taro-flavored tapioca. It's a great introduction to ube if you haven't tried that before. I wish there were more of a flow around the handoff plane. Always busy, and always confusing. There are too many choices! I don't eat beef so my only option for filling is cheese. The crispy ramen is really good! I tried one of the flaming hot toppings but it wasn't very good - it was soggy and you couldn't taste much chip flavor. The teas are all good! Overall, I would say this Happy Lemon location is pretty decent, despite the mixed reviews. Pros: -Easy parking: Huge lot in front of the store -Spacious: Despite limited to no seating, there's plenty of space to stand and wait for your drinks/food -Options: Not only can you order drinks here, you can also get the yummy Mochinut, ChunChungs corn dogs and/or bubble waffles. Cons: -ChunChungs Corn Dogs: After eating the original corn dogs at the ID location, the ones here are a bit meh. Tried a couple of different options and for some reason, the overall taste is slightly off and taste a bit stale. -Wait Time: Honestly, it's a hit or miss at this location. Sometimes, the line moves rather quickly + get drinks under 10minutes. Other times, it can take around 15-20 minutes to get drinks. tl;dr - well made drinks, mochinuts (mochi donuts), long lines I have two favorite drinks here: A7 and F3. A7 is milk tea with boba, pudding, and lychee jelly. It tastes nice and creamy with a strong but not overpowering tea flavor. The boba had a good chewy consistency. F3 is a strawberry jasmine green tea with lychee jelly. You can also get it with black tea but I felt that the jasmine would complement the fruit better. It was very refreshing and had real strawberries. I also tried some mochi donuts and they were really good. They had a much chewier texture that your typical yeast donut and the glaze on them had great flavor but still allowed the taste of the donut through. All three flavors I had were delicious: marshmallow, mango, chai tea. My biggest issue was that the line was long and really slow compared to other happy lemons. I'm not sure if this was due to the fact that they have mochinuts and Chung Chun corn dogs, but the cashier kept leaving the register to do things. One other issue was the seating was very limited despite the space being so large. Parking was easy because the lot is large and the were plenty of spaces. read more

I had been casing out the former Blackball site at 220th/Hwy 99 in Edmonds since the holidays. There's a strip mall area with Ezell's, Woods Coffee, Boiling Point, and Dong Ting Chun. Now Happy Lemon and Mochinut join these food/beverage businesses located at this busy intersection. I originally saw the 'coming soon' signage while at Woods Coffee. I have never been to any of the other locations of Happy Lemon (Bellevue, Issaquah, Seattle/South Lake Union, and Tukwila) or Mochinut, so I'm absolutely clueless. However, I know northenders have been anticipating this site and posted, but my original content was removed by Yelp HQ. Btw a future Seattle/University Village location is also forthcoming per the Happy Lemon website. Just saying. I was winding down to have an early night due to my work schedule tomorrow. But started seeing activity on the Yelp feed. So ditched the pjs, got clothes on and drove in the gusty squall up to Edmonds. Found a nearby parking spot and queued up 45 minutes before the 9pm closing time. Waited in a somewhat chaotic, quasi socially distanced line. You could see the counter and kitchen crew were slammed. Thankfully the guy at the register was all grace under pressure...he alone earns his own star. Ordered a Classic and a Jasmine fresh milk teas, both standard ice and sweetness levels, no boba. If there's a next time, definitely will dial down the sweetness. Ordered a chocolate bubble waffle, which got destroyed in transit. Probably better slathered in Nutella. I liked the yellow lemon shaped bag...like toddlers liking the box and ignoring the toy. Bought 4 Mochinut doughnuts: Matcha, Churro, Raspberry Funnel Cake, and Strawberry. I only have Raised Doughnuts for comparison. I have yet to try Dochi. I consumed my fair share of mochi and bibingka, so I understand the desired texture and flavor profile. Oreo/cookie and cream donut was my favorite flavor, my kids loved the strawberry flavor too. Came during soft opening, so I hope this review gets updated in the next few months with an improvement in rating. This review is strictly for people who know what to expect of Happy Lemon. Scroll to the bottom if you're new. Expect a long line, especially since they're also selling mochi donuts and hot dogs. We got our usual drinks, the B4 which is strawberry black tea with salt cheese foam. It's usually a blended drink, but they made it like a strawberry tea. Would avoid ordering this until they are more experienced. Was pretty rough drinking it. And I got the milk tea with taro balls. Tasted kinda chalky and the taro balls were soft without any chew. Would probably avoid the taro balls for now as well. Milk tea was just ok but not up to par with other happy lemons like Bellevue or Issaquah. Mochi donuts were good, softer than my one time experience with Dochi in Seattle. In terms of the texture of the donut, I liked it! Flavor wise, the cookies and cream dochi was way too sweet for me. Remaining flavors were not sweet, or if you have an Asian palate, just sweet enough. The matcha is very faint, almost non-existent. Strawberry is pretty subtle, churro just tasted like basic brown sugar and cinnamon. Definitely recommend trying to get it while it's fresh since it gets less chewy and more firm the longer you wait. The hot dog was good! Reminds me of aching Chung rice dog. We shared the half and half. Super stringy mozzarella which I like, and a in memorable hot dog. Not much to say, cheese, carbs, and a hot dog. Maybe a step down from Chung Chung rice dog. I'm surprised there wasn't any advertisements of the soft opening, just their store sign as if they were here the whole time. FYI, this replaced Blackball. Grand opening is this upcoming weekend of writing this review and they'll have a deal for the mochi donuts. For half dozen mochinuts it's $16, a dozen is $30. For the newbies, it's worth driving to Bellevue or somewhere else to try Happy Lemon. I'm sure once this place gets settled, they will be up to standard. I've been waiting for the day Happy Lemon came to the Edmonds area. It's conveniently located near a busy intersection. There's definitely a huge popularity surrounding the chain so expect longer than usual wait times. This Happy Lemon location is partnered with Mochinut, a local Mochi donut business which makes it tempting to load up on sweets. I had to try each of the donuts and by far, my favorite is the strawberry and cookies and cream donut. I love the consistency of mochi donuts which is a bit of a chewier texture than a regular donut. And of course, every time I'm at Happy Lemon, I have to order their famous bubble waffle. I like it original but there's also chocolate and you can do half-half as well. I also enjoy their drinks. They highly emphasize the freshness of their drinks. I recommend the avocado matcha smoothie which is pricy but worth it once in a while. You can't go wrong with their rock crema or milk tea drinks too. Only downside is the boba is never the right consistency--it's usually too hard and chewy.
