Fantastic BBQ, great draft beers. Top notch atmosphere. Grab some brisket and a hazy.

This is nothing like the San Juan Capistrano location. If you're looking for traditional BBQ with amazing flare you won't soon forget...make the trek (see my review of that location). If you want a single overpriced taco or "sando," come here, but check the menu and the prices first. There is no shortage of tacos and sandwiches in this area. You do you. It's your money. But be forewarned: the tacos are not tacos (plural), but rather a single, albeit larger, taco; no sides. Everything is a la carte. The brisket on my Bahn Mi was a little dry. Perhaps a better name for this restaurant would be Heritage Sandwiches because it is misleading to call this Barbecue. At least, in the traditional sense. Our waiter, when asked if he'd tried the Bahn Mi said, "yeah," Full stop. He disappeared after taking our drink order and a few different people came to our table to cover in his absence. He didn't know the beer list. You have to get up and go look at the sign, which made ordering awkward and chaotic. The beer list was, unfortunately, lackluster to boot. As a huge fan of the original location in Orange County, which is attached to Capistrano Brewing, I was expecting more and can sum up my entire experience at the newly opened Oceanside Heritage Brewery & Barbecue in one word: meh. read more

So good!!!! Bbq was perfect. Highly recommend the tri tip and their chili. Not only was the food great but the ambiance and location are prefect for Oceanside meal. I'll definitely be back and would recommend it to all bbq lovers. read more

DO NOT GO!!!! Where do I start...... if your hungry... don't come here. This place is only if your thirsty. First off the atmosphere was nice, but that was about it. The food was basic (at least the food they had available... they were out of almost everything) and not the best customer service. Let's start from the beginning..... there were 8 of us.... I started by ordering my daughter her $8 Mac and cheese, it was about 3 spoon fulls... then I tried to order the Banh Mi and apparently they were out of the sliced brisket and wouldn't substitute the chopped brisket instead. The waitress wouldn't even budge when asked why they can't substitute the same meat but the chopped instead of the sliced....So I couldn't get that. Then I tried to order the breakfast taco, but she said that my husband ordered the last one..... weird. I ordered my son the burger, asked if they could cut it in half (since I knew my son couldn't finish it), the waitress said NO. I said wait, you can't cut it in half? NOPE! She said she could bring me a knife though. Wow, ok! Then we were told they were out of fries... lol! You can't cut some potatoes?!? Lol. So my husband responded with.... "So what do you have?" She began to tell us that this place is very difficult and that they had a rush this morning and ran out of a lot of stuff.... That didn't really make sense since they had certain meat but only for 1 type of food and not the other. This place is a fail. The food that came wasn't good. The flavors were mediocre. I had to ask for salt and pepper... If your hungry and looking for food, beware, don't come here! They won't have anything! I know they just opened but I don't think they will be open for long if they continue like this. Out of food and shitty customer service. BTW our bill was over $200 and not even worth $10! read more

This is a new restaurant in South Oceanside. My husband and I waited a couple weeks to try it as the lines were long right at opening. We finally tried it today and although I will say the service from the gentleman at the bar was great and the food was good it is definitely over priced. We each had a sandwich which were $20 each. I didn't ask if they were served with anything as I thought at $20 they would come with a side like Cole slaw, chips, or French fries. Not only were they on the smaller side as in not shareable they were not accompanied by anything. They were served on smaller plates, like you would for a salad so it would look like they fill the plate . I ordered the Banh Mi brisket sandwich which had one small strip of brisket and 3 strips of pork belly. It should have been called a pork belly sandwich. It was tasty but again to small to share with no accompanying side, not even a pickle and for $20 was over priced. The same for my husbands Tri Tip sandwich, very small and no side. Don't come hungry unless you want to order 3-4 dishes. $20 for one taco!!! So we spent $68 on two sandwiches and two beers. Inc tip. Not sure this is worth the money or the wait. Too bad as I really wanted to see this third attempt in this location be successful... Atmosphere was ok.... read more

We read about this restaurant and thought we'd try it. Despite what we heard, the food was only so-so. The service was very slow. The beer selection was not as good as many other places. The prices are way too high for what you get. I won't be back. read more

I don't even know where you begin. We were greeted by Brenda and seated promptly. Service was spot on and food was unreal. I love the spin on traditional BBQ and more family friendly brew pub style and offering. So glad they are here and will frequent this place. Very unimpressed. I have been excited to try Heritage for a while and even more excited about a new location in Oceanside. I was under the impression this is a highly acclaimed restaurant? Apparently not. We arrived around 4:45 on a Friday. Both burger options were not available and already sold out??? I got a brisket sandwich with 2 sides: cold slaw and Mac and cheese. Brisket sandwich was okay. Cold slaw and mac and cheese were both were very bad. Mac and cheese was runny. Cold slaw lacked any unique taste. Very bland. Left both sides not eaten. Partner got a Carolina sandwich which was very dry. We also were seated by a group of rowdy staff members/employees. One came straight from working to drinking. They were having fun but quite rowdy and rude. Highly disappointing for a BBQ place. "Quite terrible" was my partner's review. We will not return or be trying the original location. read more

This was the $14 brisket (taco)s Wait times are long and getting food is even longer. Honestly the coleslaw had no flavor and brisket sando was super dry. This place is not worth the wait or the price! Hopefully the menu changes not what I expected for a bbq place mostly just overpriced "bbq" that's just sandos and tacos. Great BBQ and atmosphere. Easy location with a good amount of parking. Wish they had wings. Beef rib was my favorite.

I was disappointed because we went on a Saturday night at 5:30 and after waiting for 20 minutes before being seated our waitress who was very sweet told us they were out of all the a la cart meats except brisket. That is something that should be told to people before they agree to wait at a BBQ place. Limited beer and cocktail menu compared to similar places. My husband got the appetizer of Texas Chili Fries. The fries which were quite good came on a puddle of thin queso, the chili was stellar, but a scant drizzle of crema on top wasn't enough and it needed more jalapeños. Small portion for $16. Service was great but the food was not. The beans didn't have any flavor and were kind of watery. The fries were okay and for 7 dollars we thought they'd be pretty good. The ranch tasted like tarter sauce. The Mac and cheese sauce was almost like concrete. I will say that the meat itself was actually very good. But the price and quality of the food doesn't match up. Came here for first time with family that loves the original location in San Juan Capistrano. Food was good-if you come for lunch on weekends you can't order off full menu, which was disappointing! Service was initially prompt and then none existent after our food arrived. No one ever came to clear our plates ( we were there an hour) My final comment is that the DJ spinning some records is a fun touch, but it was SO aloud it was hard to talk to my group. Cocktails are all a premix, so only bar options are the overpriced specialty cocktails on the menu (aside from beer). out of the 4 of us, 2 did not like their food. It is a barbecue place and brewery. They serve smoked meats and beer. It is very good.

Went in and attempted to order. They were out of one of the beers we wanted. Also out of their turkey. Waiter was good. But honestly food did not seem fresh. Eggs in salad were strange tasting. Half baked potato was more like bottom third and reheated. Probably will not return. read more

Really nice place. They did a great job with the remodel. Service was excellent and we love having a place like this nearby. We had the brisket and pork belly burnt ends. Some things were exceptional others were just ok. The brisket was great but the burnt ends had a heavy chemically charcoal taste to them. Almost like when you don't wait long enough for the coals on the BBQ to get white. The sides were amazing and we will definitely try it again. read more

Great Meat, great bread, great beer, lovely staff. We got the tri tip taco and Banh Mi. They were both good but were seriously missing acid and sauce. The pickled daikon was desperately needed and tasted like regular daikon. These details bring your dinner from good to fantastic, which it was not, especially at the price point. We ordered a third taco and ended up canceling the order because it took more than forty minutes to be served. The restaurant has been open one week and is working out kinks. Their sister restaurant is Michelin rated so there were some big expectations. Can't wait to go back in a few months when everything is dialed in. read more

I live in South OC, and I'm a huge fan of what these guys do in San Juan, except for the HIGH PRICES, and impossible hours, the meats are among the best I've ever had. I was excited to give the new location a try since I'm in SD a lot and the hours are "normal" restaurant hours. But, I was pretty disappointed that this place doesn't have smoked meats by the pound? I was able to try the smoked burger, which was delicious and heavy with smoke flavor, but at $22, I'd probably never get another one. I know that there are tons of outrageously priced burgers out there but in my mind, they're always compared to my favorite California favorite burger, and the price of the double-double always has me coming back happy because it's value is unparalleled. A rather large problem is that they have a fancy menu with good food, BUT there is no option to buy BBQd meats. 3 tables around us said the same thing, we all had a good chuckle about the deception. It would have been solid if we were informed there were not any true BBQ options when we got into the 33 minute queue. Was expecting and excited for this to be a "by the pound" barbecue experience. Instead, everything is just a really expensive sandwich, which we already have enough of in this community. I have a gluten allergy, and was told that there aren't any accommodations. This typically isn't an issue for me at any other barbecue place (Terry Blacks, That Boy Good, etc.) I ended up eating a single tortilla-less turkey taco for about $20... The meat did taste great though. And as others mentioned, drinks were very weak and the ordering process wasn't ideal. read more

I'm leaving this review because this restaurant does not deserve to have so little stars. Yes, the name can be misleading because it's all tacos and sandwiches, and not traditional BBQ platters. But the food was so, so delicious. The brisket was out of this world. Fries and potato salad were great. Seasoning was on point and the fries were perfectly crispy. Beers were so good. The line was so long by the time we left so hopefully this place does well! Only suggestion would be some kid friendly foods. The ribs were do dry and chewy...we were not there that late on a Sunday and yet they ran out of banana pudding , BBQBrisket sliced and barbecue chicken. We had a few request and it seems like the waitress had forgotten now don't get me wrong. The waitresses were very sweet but was not there because they kept forgetting to bring things until the end they said oh no we forgot this we forgot that and so we without. we were celebrating a birthday and we had to remind the waitress because we wanted the birthday person to be celebrated. I forgot my niece got the tacos there and we asked for salsa and that never came so she went without. They tri-tip was good barbecue sauce was not very good. They had really good potato salad and macaroni and cheese. Do not get the roasted vegetables. They were not very good for us cares was the sauce. I don't know. It didn't just taste kind of different so I took the sauce off the top , my brother and husband had that that was very beautiful looking well done diet Pepsi and everyone seem to enjoy the beer. I would not go back again though after that experience. so as you can see, there were a lot of things that went wrong as far as them forgetting things but they were so nice that we ended up giving them a good tip anyways read more

Burger was top notch, albeit a bit pricey. Pulled pork quesadilla was a bit mid; however, my daughter enjoyed it. Service was great. Plenty of space/seating, which is always a plus when you have small children. Parking lot is also a big plus, just be sure not to park in the one meant for the buildings next door. read more

Came to Heritage at 4:40 in the afternoon. We waited at the hostess desk for over 5 minutes. No one came. Finally a waiter comes running up and apologizes and states that she is the only one working the floor. She handed us 2 menus and said to sit anywhere. There was only one other occupied table in the dining area. We sat down and waited 10 minutes to have the waiter come to our table. We ordered, along with 2 waters. We were brought 2 waters in a little child's size glass with no ice, it was not cold, only tap water. We flagged her down and asked for waters with ice. After 30 minutes, we noticed a hostess had started her shift. By this time the other occupied table had left and we were alone in the main dining room. We flagged her down and asked her to check on our order as we had ordered over 30 minutes ago. She went to the kitchen and asked about our order. She came back and said the manager was just in there as well, and she told the cooks to get our order out. After 10 more minutes, the manager comes to our table and just wants to make sure that the cooks got our order correct. They had not. We asked if the order was just now put in. "Oh no, just verifying your order". We had now been there close to an hour. By this time we were the only ones in the main dining room. Finally we yelled across the room to our waiter, who was about 15 feet away. No embarrassment, since we were the only ones in the dining room. We told her that if your order wasn't out immediately, that we were going to go. Sure enough the manager brings our order out in a to-go-bag. We told her that it was not a to go order. She told us that we could sit down and eat. We said we waited over an hour. TOTAL incompetence. The place was mismanaged by a 20 year old manager who is clueless. Bye Bye. Never again. read more

We arrived at 6:30 on a Saturday and many of the menu options were already sold out. My date and I ordered the brisket sandwich and I was disappointed. Small plate w a small size bun, w a scoop of salty brisket and some pickles served a fries or chips. $20. Fries, chips w no swap for anything healthy or different unless you want to pay $7 or more extra. I ordered a side of potato salad ($7) and it was delicious and my date had the corn that he said was yummy. I could of had seasoned fries which my date had and they were much better tasting. My $27 meal was a disappointment after seeing these pics from earlier of over flowing sandos and yummy sides. Not the case. My dates prickly pear cocktail was $12 and was half of a small glass. Yummy but how bout a full glass! We noticed the table next to us were friends of the waiter and their food and drinks looked much more plentiful. The music was old,old,school country and extremely loud. Not our cup of tea. We couldn't hear our waiter and she couldn't hear us. We hoped the country music would change up a bit to different country but it didn't. It was our first visit there and unfortunately disappointed. Overpriced for small plate w simple fries and just "ok" tasting compared to other BBQ I've had locally. I think tourists will be bummed to find half the menu offerings gone when they show up at 7pm after a long day at beach. I heard they do not cook their own meats which surprised me. Friendly staff. Very clean. Quick service. Good food but a small menu. Being a vegetarian, I was challenged but the kitchen was co-perative and the price adjusted when I asked for meatless Mac and Cheese. The sandwiches and tacos were very good but just a tad pricey.
