Newman & Company exclusively sells men's clothing. You'll find formal wear, street wear, sweaters and hoodies, t-shirts, jackets and coats, jeans and pants and slacks, shoes, belts and accessories here. The shop is well curated, and all you'll see on the racks are straight-up hits. I visited with hoodies in mind. I was shopping for my teenage son. I really didn't know what to expect from this consignment store, but I found way more than I imagined! My son wears a man's size in sweatshirts, so I found a large variety of hoodies and sweatshirts that he might like. Keep in mind that this is a store for adults, so sizes start at adult small, which is actually pretty big. There are no children's clothing sizes here. I walked away with three hoodies, and because they were gifts, I obviously didn't try them on. Although, if I wanted to, there are changing rooms in the store. Be aware that all purchases are final. No returns! The service is top-notch. The people who work here are friendly and ready to help, but will also hang back and let you do your thing if you don't need them. When it came time to check out, they neatly folded my clothing as if it was their own. They have a no-bag policy, so be prepared to carry your clothing out sans bag. One thing to note: Newman & Company is affiliated with Amanda's Exchange, so if you have a rewards account with one, it is honored at the other.

The only less Hoosier Hopsitality thing about them is their staff - the guy working when I most recently stopped in did not appear approachable nor care to talk... but hello-- that is part of your job. I wish they had a larger selection of designs on different types of shirts. For example, the design I really wanted was only available on a very think cotton shirt and I would have preferred a lighter and softer material.

Everything moved along relatively smoothly, but when I got up to the register, and the mother and son had left the cashier who is an older lady wanted to complain to me about the woman that her son taking too long and moving in the way, and having their cart still there whatever I told her twice that it was not a big deal and that I didn't care about the weight, but she wanted me to join in with her in demeaning this customer that was before me. It really put a bad taste in my mouth because she was neither pleasant nor kind. I expect a lot more from the cashiers at Meijer because I've never had this experience before, but I was in a really good mood because it was New Year's Eve and she really soured the moment. First off, the anticipated battle between Wal-Mart and Target has been a non-starter. All three still co-exist within about a mile or so of each other with Target, in particular, blossoming with the growth of Glendale Town Center. While my original review was for opening weekend, this review is now several years in with hours changed, staffing patterns established, and a sense of the mundane established. ADA still tends to be fine (and slightly better than Target in my opinion. The Ben's Pretzels that was here is long gone. The South Bend Chocolate Company spot that was planned never came to be. The area where you can buy pizza is a small dining area at the back of the store with a few tables and a vastly reduced selection. The pharmacy here is still a highlight. I've always appreciated the staff - something I can seldom say about the rest of the store. As a chain, Meijer has a long history of hiring people with disabilities and frequently for more than being a doorway presence. In the battle of the three major stores (Target, Wal-Mart, Meijer), there's no question Target's the winner. I primarily head to Meijer for certain items, for pharmacy (I don't care for CVS pharmacy, a Target partner), and for ice. I also head here because the accessible parking is superior to Target and Meijer has small carts that are easier for a wheelchair user to manage. Customer service? Clearly a Target win. It's not even close. Even at opening, Meijer fell short and it's only gotten worse here. Last night, I visited Meijer in search of a few items. I can almost never find help to reach an item. Customer service continues to carry on personal conversations in lieu of serving people. The self-serve check-out is nearly always unreasonably long. Actual check-out lanes are typically 2-3 available with ungodly long waits. As an ostomy wearer (if you don't know, you probably don't want to), mine actually popped last night because I was in line so long waiting. Seriously. Seriously inexcusable. I live about 2 miles and five minutes from this location. I frequently get in my car and drive all the way to McCordsville because that location is better staffed, friendly, has greater selection, and is immensely cleaner. I realize it's newer, but it's actually been a while and I consistently have a better experience. Yes, I know McCordsville is a small town. Yes, I know 56th and Keystone is a bit rougher area (as evidenced by the fact that security and/or IMPD is consistently a presence here). But, really? If you're going to have this location why not show some pride in it? My feelings of "meh" have given way to feelings of embarrassment to the Meijer chain for this location. I should not have an ostomy pop because I've waited in line for so long trying to check out. The cashier? Perfectly fine (I do tend to view Meijer employees as Stepford employees...incredibly robotic and devoid of personality). Am I done here? Probably not. It's too convenient. However, more and more I'm giving my hard-earned dollars to Target and/or making the trip to McCordsville. This area deserves more than a dirty and under-staffed Meijer with a worse selection. I absolutely want Meijer to continue to be here - I just want this Meijer to be representative of the best of Meijer instead of the worst.

It's always awkward when they do the whole spiel, telling me how much I could save. And I'm basically like, "No, I don't want to save money." Old Navy hates to see me coming. This Old Navy was tidy and clean, which was impressive considering I visited a few days before Christmas. I do wish all Old Navy stores (this one included) had a larger selection of boys' clothing. I feel like the girls' section is huge, and the boys' section is an afterthought. I did find something that I wanted to buy, and checkout was very easy and quick. There is lots of parking around the Old Navy, but this area of Glendale Town Center is undergoing a lot of construction at the moment.

Of course, the actual "mall" has been gone for more than a few years from this busy corner at 62nd and Keystone Avenue. It has been replaced by Glendale Town Center. While Glendale Town Center still exists, even it has been re-shaped with a vision of mixed usage involving the brand new Ayr Apartments and a relatively open concept retail design that is strangely compelling if not particularly attractive. Old Navy seems to have always struggled a bit on this side of town. The Glendale location closed. I think the Keystone location closed. However, this recently opened location is back in Glendale Town Center in the reconfigured space previously held by anchor Macy's that is now occupied by multiple smaller retail spots including Old Navy, Five Below, Ross Dress for Less, and fairly soon a Bath and Body Works. This location is an attractive spot that's within easy walking distance (Well, if you can walk. I can't, though I wheel pretty well) to the Ayr Apartments. I find it fascinating that multiple discount-type stores are located so close to apartments priced at $1,000+ monthly. But, so be it. This has multiple glass doors as an entryway. It feels like a fabulous and fresh Old Navy. I seem to recall Old Navy always feeling a bit drab, though this has more neon and lots of Old Navy-style clothing that seems to me to lean more casually. As you enter, the store is essentially an open concept. The concept for the cash registers is fairly weird as they have this sort of boundary and then the registers about 1/3 of the way in. The employees can easily see the doors, however, it just feels a little weird to me. I was initially excited as they had an automatic door entryway to the right for wheelchair users, however, I was dismayed that both the exterior and interior buttons weren't working. Here's hoping they change that in the near future. The interior is rather nice, I suppose. If I caught on to the design, it was essentially men's clothing to the left, women's to the right, and kids toward the back. The clothing ranges from extremely affordable to "You're asking how much for those jeans?" As a brand new store, I was a little dismayed by the lack of customer service. I realize discount stores seem to be a notch below when it comes to customer service, however, I was honestly stunned to enter the store, wander around the store, and leave the store and never be greeted by a single person. I kind of get it at the cash registers - they were, after all, serving customers (though "busy" is not a word I would use), though I saw at least 1-2 other people. Seriously, I mean Old Navy is right across the street from Target where, gasp, they actually greet you and talk to you. If you want to make a dent in their clothing business, you might want to act like you want customers. Overall, this is definitely a pleasing atmosphere with the exception of the non-functioning automatic door buttons. There's accessible parking, a nice curb cut (though there's still construction going on), and the store itself offers a pleasant shopping atmosphere with generally accessible aisles. However, if Old Navy wants to prosper in this corner they're going to have to improve the customer service, accessibility, and make people want to come back. I'm glad Old Navy is here and this corner is improving. However, here's hoping the best things are yet to come.
