After the expansion tank was added and adjusted on the hot water tank my washer and dryer have to be squeezed back into place, pipes have to be pushed out of the way to make the washer and dryer to fit. They're no longer a small local business but a big corporation that services their needs first. The straw that broke the camels back is when the tech put old, dirty filters in the furnace. He saw a box that had ones I had replaced in it and assumed they were new and installed them. He couldn't see they were dirty! read more

New water heater. I was in need of a water heater before the basement flooded. I went to Lowes thinking they would be decent and cheap. They use Heritage for the sale and service of the water heater. The cost was so expensive I had to finance it. Something over $6500 to replace a water heater that was there. I did not do my research for pricing. I needed the job done. I've since been told the cost was extremely high. Anytime a plumber is advertising on TV I will now assume that I can't afford that plumber. I'm on a 3 year plan to pay this off. Hopefully I can do it quicker because every month I am reminded of the stupid decision I made to use Heritage. And the quality of the work was great. Army Veteran recently relocated to NH. I discovered my well pump pressure switch leaking. Called Heritage Plumbing after noticing previous owner's Heritage decals on the well water pressure expansion tank. I called to make an appointment to replace leaking pressure switch. Heritage answering service told me plumber could be there the next day between 8am-10:30am Heritage Plumber showed up at 8 AM sharp! Plumber was great...very nice & knowledgeable. The Plumber looked at the leaking well pressure switch, ( I knew this was coming ) and then tried to " up" my repair by recommending replacing my well water pressure tank due to " some corrosion on bottom of tank" For an additional $ $2.370.00 !! As a disabled veteran on a fixed income, I just wanted the pressure switch replaced so I could get to work and I declined the pressure tank replacement. This " pressure switch" is a $ 47.00 - $ 50.00 Part. THIS quote plus a " small brass pressure relief valve was - $ 840.00 !!! I was on a time frame due to my work ( I just wanted it repaired ) and I authorized the Heritage plumber to do the job. Bad call on my part. This switch plus valve took less than two hours to install, adjust & test. A very professional Installation. Lesson Learned.. Three Union plumbers told me I got screwed by this well known company. DO NOT USE HERITAGE - (Unless you are extremely wealthy) I was told by the locals to Call Joyce Plumbing for a much better price. It's disheartening to leave this review but it has to be done. This company charges a lot of money for install of water heater and the water heater itself. The warranty in our water heater (one of Heritage's water heaters!) in my house had just run out (with in a month) and they would not value the warranty for replacement. Their financing options from one company (that we liked) changed which is disappointing. All of this has prompted my family to no longer consider doing business with Hertiage after many years as a long term customer. EDIT!!: Meghan, the owner, commented on this post and told me to email her, making it look like she was going to help us. It's been two weeks and there's been no response!! But then never responsedme to email ur experience with them hasn't been very pleasant. My husband and I initially chose this company because they told us it would be $69 for a diagnostic and they could get out here quickly. Once the plumber arrived, he told me it would be $260 before he even started working. I asked why it was over double what we were initially told and he said it was because he would need to get tools out. If that is the case, then that is something the customer service rep should have told us, since I'm sure most diagnostics need tools. The plumber said it would have been the initial $69 if he had to flip a switch or something like that.... The diagnosis was that we needed a new ignitor. Then the plumber informed me the new igniter would be around $470. That was just the price for the piece and not including the installation. We found the exact igniter for our water heater model for $100. After seeing this, my husband just replaced the igniter himself. This changed nothing. My husband called again to see if we could get someone to come out and give us a better diagnostic since this didn't solve our issue. They said we would have to pay another diagnostic fee. When my husband told me this, I made him call back and cancel. We will be using a different plumbing company from now on. read more

If I could give them a 1, I would. They charged $90 to come out to replace a barn light and to see why a porch light was not working. The porch light had been replaced on Sunday and on Monday it didn't work anymore. This guy came out and said the barn light is a solar type and in order to fix the porch light, he would have to do a complete diagnostic. The cost: $1,009!!!! I PAID $90 for them to do nothing and I still need two lights. Horrible. Got them on Angi's list. It's the last time I use either one. Angi's list gave me the run around. Save your money. read more

This place is a joke, clearly the reviews are accurate on this one. I have been out of heat for 4 days, had another tech come out to diagnose the problem but unable to get the part sooner than later, so I called heritage to see if they could get the part. They refused to even check to see if they could find the part. Trying to push me to get another diagnostic done by them. Which I would have been fine paying for if they could have at least guaranteed me that they could get me the part sooner but they were unable to even look up a part number before sending a tech out. Update of previous review: I am giving Heritage 4 stars only because this new furnace installation process was so frustrating and took so long to fix. Otherwise I'd give Heritage 5 stars. They finally figured out the problem - the furnace wasn't getting enough oxygen because the furnace "room" had a different type of door than the louvered doors they would normally see when replacing a furnace. The process was frustrating and confusing to me also because without fail the Heritage techs were professional, courteous and genuinely wanted to get it right. Also they had put the same type of new furnace in my daughter's home over a year ago with no problems at all, again with the same courtesy and professionalism. It's efficient and works very well. Results: My new furnace now works beautifully. And the Heritage Manager decided to give me two years of free cleanings for all the trouble which I very much appreciate. By the way, the furnace has a life time guarantee. It costs more but I believe there are times when it makes sense to get the best product because in the long run it costs less and lasts longer. read more

Last week the furnace burner was shutting off intermittently and required multiple resets to keep the potable water hot. This burner has a Beckett GeniSys 7505 controller rather than an Aquasat, something that I'm experienced with. So I called Heritage Home Service for an emergency service call the next day. The Heritage tech showed up with a Fluke multimeter with an attached amperage clamp. I asked him where his Beckett diagnostic tool was, and he didn't have a clue what I was talking about. He wanted to do diagnostics with what he had, and I said it's probably the electronic controller and did he have one on the truck? He said he did and brought in this greasy white box containing a controller that had obviously been installed somewhere previously. No thanks. He showed me his tablet with the controller displayed and I thought I saw a price of $682. I got online and showed him the controller cost $92 and the diagnostic tool $110. My wife cut Heritage Home Service a $89 check for the emergency service call and we sent the tech on his way. I purchased the 7505 controller and diagnostic tool online from SupplyHouse and received the order in two days. The diagnostic tool indicated the controller was FUBAR. I swapped out the new for the old controller in about 15 minutes, and the furnace has been running perfectly ever since. If you're handy, check YouTube for 7505 help, buy the GeniSys 7505 diagnostic tool (P/N 52082), and you're good to go. read more

My furnace went out during an arctic blast of all times. I knew it only needed a new circuit board. I called in for a quote to have the circuit board replaced and was told $1,100! The OEM circuit board sells online for $100 and it is at most a 1 hr job. They seem to think they should be paid $1000/hr?! Lawyers don't even make that. Talk about price gouging and trying to take advantage of a situation. No thank you! I ordered the circuit board next day on Amazon and had the furnace up and running in 30 mins. read more

I needed to add an outlet for a pellet stove I purchased and my first price quote for the job was almost $1300. This was Heritage Home Services. I was figuring $600 to $700 tops. It's really not that complex...one outlet, wire (approximately 75 feet) and a breaker to be installed in my backup generator breaker box. Add in labor and the cost comes in at around $600 to $700 with a generous portion for labor. Since the price quote was so ridiculous from Heritage, I decided to call Mr. Electric for a second price quote. Thank God I got the second price quote! Mr. Electric came in at $533.00 for the same exact job! To be fair, I know everything is more expensive right now and labor is hard to find. Additionally, these companies are extremely busy but I have no use for companies that are price gouging their Customers just because they can. I also have a long memory when it comes to these companies because as most people know the economy is cyclical and business isn't always great. I will remember NOT to use Heritage when times are tough...Mr. Electric has me for life...good times and bad. I've done electrical work and I did price this job out before seeking professional services. I know the approximate cost for parts and I usually double that cost for labor. That's how I came up with the $600 to $700 estimate. The $1300 price tag Heritage quoted is just obnoxious. Shame on you Heritage! Mr. Electric was easy to schedule, on time and very professional. The $533 they quoted was extremely reasonable. My advice, steer clear of Heritage and checkout Mr. Electric. Small add on comment: It's kind of sad. After reading review after review...all saying pretty much the same thing and then reading the business owner's response...give me a break. You either just don't get it or you just don't care about price gouging customers. Your competitors are bonded, licensed and are highly trained as well. They all warrant their work. Are there bad players out their...you bet...that's why there's Yelp and you have two stars. read more

When my 100 yr old father's heat was out he called the number pasted on his water heater. (The number was for Proactive which was apparently bought out by Heritage.) He told them that the pilot was in tight spot and to send a small technician. The first person was too big to access the pilot area. A second technician was able to light the pilot. Both technicians were polite and cordial. He spent $349 and the heat didn't work the next day. We called another company and will not do business with Heritage again. read more

If this is Muirfield Mechanical from Boxboro, I would advise caution using this company. They installed a heat pump system and left unconnected wires and cables hanging from the attic crawl space ceiling. When asked about this they did not have much to say. I also asked about the fan operation of the system and they were not helpful. The electrical inspector only checked the wiring to the breaker panel and I do not believe inspect the crawl space wiring. They did not make recommendations to connect the existing oil burner to the heat pump as a two stage system which would greatly lower the electric bill in the coldest months. This is a big oversight. read more

They came out fast which was good and the techs were pleasant and knowledgeable but holy smokes they took advantage of her naiveness of the trades. Absolute lunacy that Heritage attempted to charge me $600 for replacing 1 exterior spigot. After getting the price on-site stopped me in my tracks, the technician said, "yes, we are very expensive". I get a supply chain crisis, but in my opinion this is a legal form of theft. Make sure they give you a ballpark price before you confirm your appointment. In the end, my bad. This fee is NOT absorbed into the work, if you choose to have the work done. All work and parts are on top of that deplorable assessment fee. In addition to the fact that Heritage is RIDICULOUSLY over-priced I believe they are scam artists - here's why... I called Heritage to ask ballpark how much it would cost to install a toilet that I had already purchased and was on site; they refused to give me any idea at all but said that a service call was a minimum of $89.00 and that would be applied to the cost of the work should I choose to proceed. I foolishly agreed thinking that even if they were billing at 150.00 an hour it's realistically 30 min to install the toilet (I've done it before when I was younger - very simple job). A nice man showed up to my door on the agreed-upon date and after surveying the job for about 25 seconds told me it would be $511.00 to install the toilet - reassuring me that it would be $1100.00-plus if they provided the toilet and so I saved soo much money (I spent $130.00 at home depot on a perfectly good low-water toilet). Naturally, I absolutely balked at the price and he defended his company by illustrating that they bill at $250.00 an hour. I told him - that the new toilet was virtually sitting next to the old one and it was a 30-minute job and he countered that it would take him '45 minutes'. The reason now became quite clear why the dispatcher refused to give me a ballpark estimate over the phone as they wanted to collect their minimum $89.00. Naturally, I sent him packing. But even at the ludicrous rate of 250.00/hr. and by his own (over-inflated) estimate of 45 min. it should still have only cost me $187.50 maybe $200.00 max. This is gauging, no other word for it. Shame on Heritage. So instead, I gave them their $89.00 and will never, ever call them again, and I will make sure anyone who asks me about a plumber will NEVER call them either. read more

Wonderful experience, I live in a condo which requires license and insurance be sent to the HOA and it was done promptly by the office. I was contacted 30 minutes before arrival they were on their way. The drain did cleared prior to their arrival however I still wanted it checked out. It was worth the 89 dollars to have a professional to come and validate all was good, being I thought it may be my main sewer line. Chad was plumber and I understand Heritage "Main Line" expert. He was polite, knowledgeable, worn booties and reassured pipes looked in good working order. read more

After the recent storm, our sump pump couldn't keep up so we called Heritage to diagnose and also quote on adding an additional sump. The technician who showed up quoted massive sums of money for expansion and never gave us a true diagnosis of what was wrong. he then left and basically said we will try to get you on the schedule in January. Even though my system was installed by Heritage the technician who was dispatched said he couldn't read any of the labels on our pumps and treated it like a competitor's equipment I feel we should get our money back since no attempt was made to fix or provide solutions. read more

Long time customer with Heritage that went south after poor response from the company regarding missed appointment times. 1st time ok. 2nd time not so happy. Said goodbye to them after the third one. Also discovered technicians are commissioned on the jobs they bring in. Was told I needed a hot water heater replaced very soon or I was going to have big problems. It went another 5 years before I made the decision to replace it out of caution. Heritage estimate over $3,000. Got it done including adding an expansion tank and mixing valve from a competitor for $1600. Technicians are polite and knowledgeable but, can't help get the feeling that the incentive they might get by "upselling" surely drives their customer service interaction. Think going in for an oil change and end up paying for four new tires, alignment, and balancing with a caution that the exhaust system should be replace soon or car will fail inspection. read more

Major job is delayed because they refused to coordinate with the tenant to be let into the unit after I specifically told them I wouldn't be there the day they were supposed to start and they needed to contact the tenant. He was there in the unit; they wouldn't even knock on the door without me present. Guys who showed up to do the job didn't even tell me they were refusing to do that after I texted them, so I only found out days later that they hadn't even started, when the project manager tried to get me to pay for the entire job up front and told me I needed to contact the main office to get it rescheduled. As any homeowner knows, a contractor who demands payment in full up front is running a scam, so obviously at that point I fired them and started looking for someone new. read more

We called Heritage Home Service to have an electrical outlet installed outside. I was told over the phone that there would be an $89.00 fee for the estimate that would be credited if we decided to hire them. Because this was something we needed and wanted I asked if the estimator would be prepared to do the work during their visit and was told they would. First, they were not prepared to do the install. Second, the price was so ridiculously high (almost one thousand dollars) that I can only assume Heritage makes their profits from estimates. I have since received 2 additional FREE quotes that were a fraction of this one, both from reputable local businesses. Also, the "estimate" is nothing more than a piece of paper with a total. There is no breakdown for materials or labor whatsoever. If they have set prices for specific jobs then why do an estimate? Lastly, I reached out on 2 separate occasions requesting to speak to a manager and was not contacted. Save your time and money and look anywhere else. Update: I left my review and had moved on until I read the response below from Heritage. Wanting to give them a chance to resolve my issue, I contacted Meghan as requested. After a third failed promise for a call back from a supervisor, and an analogy of how their fee is like a copay at the doctors office, I am done. I'm not sure where these glowing Google reviews came from but they were the reason we considered hiring them. If you'd like to see honest reviews about Heritage, look on Yelp and you will see what appears to be a different company. If you receive great customer service you may tell a few people, if you receive bad customer service, you'll tell everyone you know and that's what I intend to do. read more

Will cancel your appointment last minute and expect you to be good with rescheduling for another 4 months from then. It's shocking to me that people don't do more research before hiring someone, especially an HVAC company. I got a quote to replace a basic natural gas hot water heater (not tankless, nothing fancy) and it was $5700. I burst out laughing. When I asked where all of that was coming from since I could get the equivalent hot water heater (State, one of the best, now AO Smith, for about $800), and that it should take one guy 5 hours, I was told I was way off and that a 40 gal hot water heater would take two men at least a full day. If that's the case, you're both terrible at what you do. Obviously didn't hire. My AO Smith 40 gal is being delivered ($800 including delivery to my door, plus $110 in supplies (pan, shark bites, expansion tank), and being installed for $635 by one of the most reputable places in town, who by the way said it would take him, alone, four hours max.
