Yesterday, after many tears, we decided that Molly was in to much pain and it was time to say goodbye. I called at 2:30 to schedule her appointment. After beginning placed on hold twice for over 5 minutes both times, it was determined that they had no available appointments. Therefore, it would be considered an emergency vet visit. A typical scheduled euthanized appointment was $ 150. However I would be charged $300+ as this would be an emergency visit. We arrived at 4:30 as scheduled and the office is open until 5:00. As I handed the tech my card I told her that their charges and practice was criminal. She swiped my card without the blink of an eye. My baby crossed the rainbow bridge and is resting under shade of a big maple on our back 40. P. S. They would have cremated her for me for an additional fee. Love you Molls read more

This place sucks. They refused to see a dog that is a patient of theres in a emergency because she had not beens seen in over a year. TO bad if your healthy dogs gets sick. They cannot see her because they haven't made enough money off her . read more

This place is TERRIFIC!!! they have taken care of my and my family's dogs for years and have don a FABULOUS job!! When I had to put my 13 year old springer to sleep they made sure all was quiet and we had as much time as we needed to say good bye. They were so compassionate. Same with my daughter and son's dogs. I have a puppy now and they are great with him!! I highly recommend Herkimer Veterinary Associates!! read more

But here is my past review in full. Until Yelp or Herkimer Veterinary Associates takes it down again. My anger has not abated since you did my animals wrong! And this is the second time I REPOSTED IT. It's been posted three times. My original review, until it's taken down" Yelp probably won't let me write as much as I want, but I'll try. THEY SUCK. After my dog had been a patient there for over two years, I called one day w/ an emergency. My dog could not stand or walk and I needed an emergency appt. IMMEDIATELY. They flatly refused to give me an appt for my dog. Said they were all filled up and it would cause "chaos, chaos, chaos" if I brought my dog in. Okie dokie pokie rednecks. I went to another vet, where I'd never been seen, and they stretchered my dog in in 30 secs. They'd never seen him and we showed up unannounced since his regular dr wouldn't see him because of the "chaos" it would create and they treated him really well and have treated him ever since. I've hated this hospital ever since and never visited them ever again! I also had an earlier incident w/ a different dog, where they had me do $160 in bloodwork for hypothyroidism (which she'd had for 10 years) and only gave me a 2 mth supply of her thyroid medication. When I tried to have them renew the medication, they demanded I come in and have her 60 day old bloodwork repeated at the same cost or they would not renew her prescription. They WOULD NOT renew her prescription for her 10 year condition w/o me repeating the same bloodwork 60 days later. I shared my own thyroid medication w/ her for the next few weeks until I found a different vet (the thyroid medication for her and me was exactly the same, it's all the same; it's all synthroid). Tasha and I shared the meds for a month and we both got half what we were supposed to get until I went to the new vet (the one I currently use). I told the new vet that Tash was hypothyroid and got 137 mcg per day and she prescribed that dosage for a twelve month supply w/o even testing her. I certainly know what dosage my dog has been taking for 10 yrs and I don't need your damn affirmation, especially when she has 10 years of records to back up that assertion. They are MONEY HUNGRY BASTIDS. Herkimer Veterinary Hospital is HORRIBLE and money hungry. I think I actually HATE them. They did me wrong, they did 2 of my 3 dogs wrong, they refused to see my dog (their patient) when I had an emergency. FLATLY REFUSED, because it would cause "chaos" in the office. The only reason they didn't do my other dog wrong was because he was healthy, other than one skin infection and a microchip. ALSO--- when I asked the gal answering the phone about Tasha's medication, she repeatedly asserted "no". The notes were in the chart. I said "can I speak to the doctor, Tash has a longstanding history of hypothyroidism and has always gotten the same medication" and she said "no". I asked why I couldn't speak to the doctor and she responded by saying " there are notes in the chart about necessary tests and medications and you're not allowed to speak to the doctor. That's the doctor's policy". I said "why can't I speak to the doctor?" She said "because you cannot. That's the doctors' policies". There ya go. That's why I hate this office and would never recommend them to ANYONE unless you want to take out a second mortgage on your house to pay for thyroid medication for your 14 yr old dog. This place is awesome! From the girls that answer the phone to the vet techs that do the preliminary check on the animals to the vets that do a thourough check of each animal. I would not trust my furry animal family to anyone else! read more

In the last two places we lived, Rochester & Syracuse, we used much larger and more professional veterinary clinics that were more than happy to assist us with using an on-line pharmacy, of our choice, to obtain our pet medications at a much cheaper price. This place is affiliated with their own on-line pharmacy, which is considerably more expensive, and they basically force you to use it by refusing to simply answer the phone and verbally authorize your script when another pharmacy calls. They claim this is to protect you from these fraudulent companies. So I decide to play the game because this place is close to my home. We bring a brand new, pure breed puppy to this place in the fall of 2014. He gets on the only 2 meds he needs, heart worm and flea/tick, through their reputable pharmacy. Summer of 2015 he is diagnosed with Lyme disease and summer of 2017 he is diagnosed with a parasitic worm! I'm sure I don't have to tell anyone how expensive the treatments were for these conditions. I wish this vet would have protected me from their own pharmacy rather than the one, Dr.'s Foster & Smith, that I have used since 2000, with no issues, at a much cheaper price!!!
