Hermannhof is a cute winery and a fun tour to take. However I am not a huge fan of their wines. They stopped making their fruit wines and they had a Cherry which was beyond terrible and when we tasted it the woman just smiled and said "It is bad isn't it?" We agreed and she said, "Wait," and mixed it 50/50 with Sprite and made a spritzer and all of a sudden it was delicious. But alas they no longer make it. I do like their Traminette and their Stagswood Red but that is about it. Their Chambourcin is to acidic, their Norton to oak-y, I am not a fan of their Vignoles, their Port is just okay but a little pricey. Now this is just my opinion and everyone's palate is different and they change over times. I used to hate sweet wines and only drink dry. Now I have started liking the semi-sweets and a few sweet wines. Now their sausages on the other hand are great and I would highly recommend buying them. read more

While doing a winery crawl we got lost in the woods of Missouri and eventually came up in this quaint little town. It had two wineries back to back. One I do not recall the name of and just as well...they wanted to charge you for the good samples. You can take your grape vine and shove it buddy! Then we went into the Hermannhof one. SCORE!!! It really is a beautiful area down there and I bet during the autumn leaves time its amazing. There is an outside area to eat and drink, but we did not partake of that. There were about 3 weddings taking place the day we were there (in the town, not the winery LOL). It was like taking a trip back in time. Even though it was crowded that day we hit the jackpot with this wonderful woman who was basically "eh! I'm here I'll pour until you tell me stop." SCORE AGAIN! She really was fun to talk to and she helped us as we began to get the wines confused after all of the sampling we did - hehehe. If you don't mind the drive, then by all means experience this place at least once. And the wine several times ;) read more

This winery was beautiful, nestled into a hill along some water. We came while visiting multiple wineries during Oktoberfest. It's like two for one because the owner has both wines from California and Missouri. So there are two tasting rooms. You can taste for $1 each. We hit the CA room first then went into the actually Hermannhof winery. This place was packed. They had tons of picnic tables, live music, brats, pulled pork and some other food. They only sell wine and I think they kicked up the price simply because of Oktoberfest. You could only buy bottles, starting at $16. If you come here, you can bring in your own food which I suggest. The pulled pork was good, but I'd bring in crackers, cheese, grapes and all that next time and just chill there. It was a nice setting. It would have been better had it not been so packed as we couldn't even find a place to sit. Plus we really just wanted a glass of wine and you could only buy bottles which is fine if you're planning to stay there awhile or if everyone in your group could agree on a bottle. read more

Cool winery in the heart of Hermann. Tastings cost some money, parking isn't easy if it's busy, and half of their wine comes from California anyway? They had good octoberfest food, a hall serving their drinks across the street, and are easy walking distance from most of town. Maybe they serve German food year round with their German heritage? In one section, you can pay to taste 5 Missouri made wines of your choice. In the other section, they focus more on the Reds neglected by Missouri growers. Possibly because it's the wrong climate for them? I tasted fewer wines here than with the competition, but liked almost all the hermannhoff wines I tasted. Actually paying for your tastings is probably better for portion control and not playing the weird game of how much do I tip the server. But after driving all the way out here, this place doesn't really thank you properly. Fun trip to Hermann but I don't think I'd need to stop here again. Maybe bourbon country is just more my thing. read more

Loved this cute little winery/tasting room! One side of the building has a sausage and cheese store, one side has a wine tasting room of the Missouri wines, and next to that is a tasting room for the California wines. Wished we could've stayed longer, but we loved our five wine tasting for only $6 and really enjoyed the self guided tour of their wine cellar (a nice touch!) read more

Great wines and a very helpful staff. The overall feel is very cozy and I love being in this building. My only complaint is the cost of the wine though it does appear to be standard practice to charge higher than MSRP at the wine shop. Stone hill does this too so I won't judge Hermannhof for it either. The wine is really good and I do recommend it! read more

Wow! Karen led us in our tasting and it was a truly wonderful experience. She was knowledgeable, fun and really made it a perfect experience! The wine was lovely, I recommend the Vidal Blanc. They also have a deli with cheese and sausage, which we enjoyed with crackers and our wine on their gorgeous patio. This place was the nightlight of our trip to Herman. read more

As far as Missouri Wineries go, this one was stellar. I walked in on a drizzly Sunday morning and the lady behind the counter was very helpful. She was knowledgable about the wines and helped us choose which to try (we like dry reds and that's not a huge thing in Missouri...) After the tasting, we walked over to the deli next door where there were cheese and sausage samples we got to try. We chatted with the lady behind the counter and she asked if we wanted to go into the cellar and check out the barrels. Well, of course we did. She took us down stairs and showed us the creepy cellar. She pointed out oddities (angel heads by the door frame) and she told us some ghost stories (complete with a couple photos she had taken herself on her phone). Not only did we try some stellar Missouri wine but we got a full experience out of this visit. Highly recommend! read more

Being one of Hermann's most talked about wineries, I was expecting a big showcase at the wine trail but unfortunately it wasn't. The building and insides were nice and inviting, it wasn't too crowded and you easily found a spot to sit. The bbq wings they were serving were too chargrilled and that didn't make them enjoyable. Their White Lady wine was pretty good however if you wanted other tastes it was going to cost. They were allowing people to explore their underground cellars so that was a great way to cool off from the Missouri heat. There were plenty of great picture opportunities down there as well. They have a great outside area, I was bummed that they didn't have any live music there this weekend, it would have been a great addition to the trail. read more

The wine was actually really good and I was so excited for the live music. However, when I walked up to Scotty to ask if we could get a few dancing songs for my friends bachelorette to get up and move to, he was actually super rude and told me that would not happen. My wife and I stopped here during our Katy Trail trip. The staff was very courteous and knowledgeable. We had a great wine tasting and ended up taking a bottle of Vidal out to the patio with one of their basket lunches. All in all a very fun afternoon. read more

Hermannhof is one of my favorites in Hermann. The wine is fantastic, the self-guided cellar tour is interesting and fun. Their cafe style foods and meats and cheeses are yummy. The only downside- every singe time I've been there, the staff has NOT been very polite. I would recommend it, just don't be expecting stellar service; you won't get it here. Nice little winery with friendly folk within walking distance from the Amtrak Station in Hermann, MO. I don't like the $2 uncorking fee, though, so bring your own corkscrew and stick it to them. Not literally, though: like most civilized places, its against the law to stab people there. read more

Beautiful little winery. We stopped in after touring a larger nearby winery and "shared" the wine tasting here. Good stuff, and we bought a bottle of White Lady that is outstanding. I would return and spend more time. The self-guided tour was fine but definitely not as cool as hearing all of the history and facts from a guide. I didn't find the staff snooty at all on my visit. We had a large group at the winery and was told we could go down into the cellar to drink our wine. While down there we were told we had to leave as there was a wine trail. It was 3:30 in the afternoon there was hardly anyone down there and we spent a lot of money in wine and when we said no one is down here and we are paying customers she said she didn't care! I am in the service business and I care that my customers are paying customers and value each of them. If you don't care about paying customers you need to close!! read more

I really enjoyed the wines at Hermannhof. In fact, they were my favorite. The woman who served us took her time explaining the grapes and the tastes we should experience with each wine. She was knowledgable and friendly. They have an excellent Norton, and many of the other varieties beat the other vineyards in my book. read more

Will I go back? Maybe. The quality of the wine is decent but the experience of tasting was lacking. There is a small fee to taste which is understandable. We selected our wines and then went through with the tasting with little explanation or conversation with the employee. This lasted less than ten minutes. We inquired about the tour and were told that there is not a guided tour but we could go into the cellars. We did but there is nothing to see but bricks and stone. There is no explanation or examples of the wine making process. Very disappointing. read more

By far one of my top 5 wineries I've ever been to. My friends and I go down every year for my birthday. We rent a yellow school bus so no one has to drive. Stagswood Red is one of the best wines I've ever had!!!! It's a sweet red wine. The best time to go is during Oktober Fest in October. My fiancé came home from a year deployment in the Army and he took me down there for the weekend. We stayed at Hermann Hill (great place). We got down there and checked in later than we hoped and didn't have much time before the wineries closed. He had never had the wine down there so I really wanted to go get a bottle for him to try. We got all the way to Hermannhoff Winery and the sign said "closed". I was so bummed that I couldn't get one of my favorite wines for my fiancé to try on the first night of our vacation. An older gentleman came to the door asking us if we wanted to come in, I smiled really big and said "Yes please!!!! I know you're closed but we'd just like to purchase a couple bottles of your amazing wine." He smiled and let us in. He let us sample a few wines then we bought a bottle and left. It was a great experience and I was very grateful that he let us come in when they were closed. read more

This is my favorite winery on the Hermann trail. It's the combination of the wines and the nice outdoor area along the creek where you can sit and drink. Tastings are free and the staff is extremely friendly and helpful. I've never had any complaints here. It's located right in town and across the street from the Amtrak station, so it's easy to find. Try the Hermannhof Inn if you want an amazing (though very overpriced) room. read more

I don't know what my deal is, but I've been to Hermannhof on a number of occassions, and this past trip (yesterday) just didn't sit right with me. Perhaps it was because it just opened. Maybe because it was a Sunday morning, and we didn't have the time or want just yet to enjoy a bottle on the lovely patio. Perhaps it was the unexciting lady helping us. I dunno. We bought a couple bottles, because we do enjoy the wine for the most part. It was just dull. Perhaps a repeat trip in the near future will help me change my mind. read more

Amazing service and friendly employees. Vickie was outstanding and so helpful. We did a wine tasting and end up buying 4 bottles of wine to take home to family and friends. WOW! Okay, I never write reviews but I had to for this one. We visited the winery as well as stayed in the grapevine suite at the inn. This being our first time staying at a bed and breakfast so we did some research and decided on the Hermannof. It was literally amazing! We had to check in late on Monday and they were so nice about it, didn't raise any fuss even though the day attendant had to wait up for us! My boyfriend asked them to put a bottle of wine in the refrigerator before we got there because it was our anniversary and when they found out it was they had chocolates, homemade snacks and a little card wishing us happy anniversary. They also gave us a couple free glasses of wine and such at the winery to use the next day. The room was so beautiful, perfect mix between quaint and luxury. TWO FIREPLACES! One being in the bedroom and one in the bath which also had a giant tub. GORG! We got up and breakfast there both mornings we were there and it was fabulous! So good. They have an amazing baker on staff. We visited the winery around 11 on Tuesday, so fun. I read that one of the reviews said that talking to Billy was great and she was right! He was so fun and knowledgable about everything. It was fun to go down in the cellar and kinda explore a bit! The only thing I would have changed would have been the weather. Everything else was perfect!! Staff, food, wine, everything really was PERFECT! read more

Although other reviewers had very positive experiences, ours was disappointing. Only a few people were there for tastings, and the woman who helped us gave no information on anything she poured & wasn't very friendly in general. The other person behind the counter was chatty, but was pouring for another small party. The wines aren't the most sophisticated, but the drier reds & whites were not bad. Fruit wines were available when we were there. A suggestion to the winery - waive tasting fees when customers buy a bottle. read more

Have a great time here every time I go. Parking can be an obstacle sometimes, but that is due to the location of it being on the main road and in a heavy traffic area. That never deters me from stopping here first. The staff here are some of the best out of all the wineries in Hermann. They have some of the best selections of wine and if you go downstairs, they have a cool area where they store barrels. Perfect place for some cool pictures. read more

We visited Hermannhof winery during the Wurstfest this year (2015). Not expecting a lot of a Missouri wine, we were pleasantly surprised. In fact--we tend to enjoy dry wines--but our favorite was the Germantown white table wine. A little bit more sweet semi-sweet wine, it is delightful. It will be a great "hot summer evening on the porch" wine. Would also be a good base for a peach sangria. read more

My girlfriend and I have stopped here twice. Both times it was a bit difficult to get anyone to pay attention to us. When they did, they acted like it was a burden to serve us - likely because we look young and like perhaps we didn't have money to buy bottles. We're both well off and could buy out every bottle in the joint. We don't have any tolerance for these kind of places that make assumptions about the people that go out of their way to patronize their establishment. Especially since their wines are mediocre. The only one we enjoy is the 2005 Barrel Select from Santa Barbara, which we've purchased both times, because we can. Snoody bunch. read more
