Hermie is skilled and friendly. She offered me. great advice on what would work best for my hair type. The service itself was top-notch, with attention to detail and a personalized touch that made me feel truly pampered. The end result was fantastic--my hair looked and felt amazing. Additionally, the salon maintained high standards of cleanliness and hygiene, which I greatly appreciated. Overall, it was a wonderful experience, and I left feeling refreshed and satisfied. This was my first time visiting this salon. I'm very particular about who does my hair but I decided that I give this salon a try. I called Hermie earlier today to see if she can schedule me in for today, she replied yes and told me to come in at 5:30 pm. Hermie was running late which is okay because things happen. I liked how she immediately apologized for her lateness. She had one customer before me which was perfectly fine with me. I'd rather wait for one customer than have to wait around for several customers. Hermie multitasked by starting on my hair while the customer was under the dryer. She offered me a bottle of water while I was under the dryer. She listened attentively to what I wanted and my hair concerns. Hermie decided to put a texturizer in my hair considering my grade of hair. When it was over, I walked away with hairstyle that was almost what I desired because I would have liked it to be much straighter. However, it was okay to celebrate my birthday the following day. My hairstyle did not hold up as expected because of the texturizer so I had to go back TWO DAYS LATER to have my hair curled AGAIN. I did not know about the pros and cons of having a texturizer but a professional hairstylist does and should've chosen the best option for my hair, not just for short-term purposes but for the longevity of desired cut. My hair has not been able to really hold a curl without it being spritzed with holding spray since this visit so I had to go somewhere else. My experience at this salon was pretty decent considering the customer service provided to me. The prices are very reasonable. I really thought that I had found a salon that I could rely on but apparently I can't. I'm reviewing my personal experience with Hermie but I did notice that there were other hairstylists who did a phenomenal job on their customers' heads. read more

If the hairstylist cannot style your hair the way you want it, they should say so. Don't ask how you want styled and do something different. Stylist was shocked she was tipped and she knew she did not get it right. I put a hat on when I left, she knew it wasn't what I asked for. read more

Customer Service: Excellent. The ladies here were friendly and sweet. Plus they had free candy! Prices: The owner Hermie gave me a quote over the phone. I was already halfway out of the door by the time she told me the cost. Thumbs up for pricing. Ambiance: Ummm they should tidy up a bit. When I saw the bathroom I immediately thought of Sojourner Truth's "Ain't I A Woman?" The shop is also quite cluttered but clean. Do: As in hairdo. Hmmm, the lady doing my hair needed instruction from another beautician. She followed directions but it's a good thing I know how to sew because I've had to tighten up my weave within two weeks of getting it. Still the style has received some compliments. There is a difference between doing natural hair and KNOWING how to do natural hair. My hair experience today was pretty much a mess. Not once was any moisturizer or oil or detangler used to detangle my hair OR style. I got perm rods put in and when I came out from the dryer my roots were dry and crunchy while the tips were smooth. That's because no product expect water and mousse was used which is a big no no when styling natural hair. My hair was completely dry when I first came and the stylist combed out my from root to tip, which results in more hair loss than necessary. I was told there's a natural hair stylist that works there but she wasn't in today so I guess they just throw you to the next available stylist with no experience with natural hair. I would definitely NOT recommend this salon if you need natural hair services. Just save yourself the time and trouble. read more

I booked using their online system for a 10am saturday appointment. I got to the place and the salon was open but NONE of the stylist were there. That was the first red flag as I don't know any hair salons in Brooklyn that isn't busy on a Saturday morning. The guy out front gave me a number to call. The owner said she couldn't come and sent me to a salon down the block that also didnt have any stylist working! She promised someone would be there to do my hair. I waited an entire hour and no one showed up. I called and asked her to refund my $25 deposit. Two weeks past and I was still asking for the refund. I asked if I can just come by the shop to get the money if she was having issues with the system. It's been a month and still have not received my refund. This place is unprofessional and judging by the fact that the salon was empty on a Saturday morning, i am almost certain they have no clients and cannot do hair. I came in on a Saturday morning w/o an appointment because I came to the wrong location but I was welcomed and was able to get my extensions installed right away! Candice is the best!!!!!! Hands down. Did my very first short haircut ever, at Hermies and I was very pleased at how informative and knowledgeable Candice is. I have been going here over 3 months and love that it's appointment only; and she, like myself is always on time. I've gotten so many compliments on my hair and because for me short hair is a little bit difficult to maintain, I have been growing it back. And yet still, it looks soooo good. The shape, the texture of my hair, everything. BUT WAIT, I think about how great my hair looks once it's styled and I am tempted to actually go shorter. I know, totally confused. Walking in to this shop you would never expect any type of hair magic. The establishment is not easy on the eyes but the Stylist Ten Commandments makes up for the ugly interior. I got the best massage in the world while getting my hair washed by Hermie. My hair was then blow dried (blow drier was too hot had to complain) and then I was braided up for me weave. The braiding took longer than am used to because it was the old school braid the whole head in a circle braiding but the installng of the weave was fast, neat and secured. The weave was then curled to perfection teased a little and I was done. Unfortunately I did not get the name of the young lady who worked on me, it was not Jenny or Hermies, she had nice reddish natural hair and medium brown skin. I had a 2pm appointment and I was out the door by 530pm, not too bad. My one and only complaint is the price was kinda high for a full head of weave and kertain treatment but I will defiintely go back for a wash and set then make my full decision as if this will be my hair home. read more

One of the worst experiences ever. I don't get why this happened because I went into beauty salons randomly over a long time for the same cut and this time it was all wrong. I called the salon, they said they understood what I wanted. I walked in, was not greeted, which isn't a big deal but I'd think that when someone walks into your almost empty place of work, you'd say hello. Told them what I wanted, Hermie, the store owner, and another worker spoke about it and they knew what to do. They completely ruined my hair. first they decided they'd give me a haircut with a electric razor which I had no problem with because the hairdressers said she knew how to cut. She didn't. Despite showing her how low to go, she shaved my hair unevenly and too low. Then with what hermie called perm, despite what I had specifically told her. Hermie permed my hair unevenly and decided she'd make up for it by doing the perm again. Which now has my hair breaking and falling out In some places. All for $50. Worse. Hairdo. Ever. My friend recommended this salon. I had tried other salons in New York City since moving here in 2008, but I had been unsuccessful in finding a good one that didn't burn my hair during a relaxer. When I first went to Hermie's, I went there to get a relaxer. When I walked in, everyone was super nice and friendly, and completely welcoming. It reminded me of my hair salon back home in Florida, where there is a family aspect to it, and that was comforting. Hermie gave me my relaxer and the first thing she asked me was if my scalp burned easily or not, which it is a great question to ask. Other hair salons in New York City never asked me that and sometimes I forget to tell them that I do burn easily. Anyway, the relaxer she gave was very good and I enjoyed my time. My hair came out looking fabulous and I was very happy. It cost me $50 and I gave an additional tip. Two weeks later, I decided to get a weave for my hair. Hermie's offers $70 Weave Tuesdays, where you can have your weave sewn in for $70 on Tuesday rather than $100 they usually charge throughout the week. I brought my hair with me and Isha did my hair. She gave me the part that I wanted and gave me the layered look. She is very good at what she does and my hair came out looking fabulous once again! I have gotten so many compliments on my hair since then. You know I will be going back to get my hair when I am in New York City. I don't trust many people with my hair because my hair is very delicate and breaks off easily. Before I went to Hermie's, I only trusted my hair stylist Ms. Sharon back home in Florida. Now I have someone here in NYC and Florida. I can honestly say I trust the people at Hermie's Beauty Salon to do my hair correctly and I won't worry about anything going wrong with my hair (unless I do something to it lol). Got a Groupon for a wash condition blow dry and trim. Came out with a buzz cut. I literally didn't realize how much hair the stylist Isha took because she was apparently scissor happy. She did not trim my hair. She CUT it. I realize now at the end of the night when the owner asked her why she wasn't blow drying my hair like the Groupon said is because she knew that if it was blown out I would see exactly how much of my hair she cut off. I'm soo mad, my hair was so thick and split ends travel but not up the whole hair shaft. I want a refund. read more

I have been wanting to do something to my hair for a while and I couldn't find a place that would do an amazing job for a reasonable price and then with Covid 19 I just put my hair on hold, but once salons started opening up again I decided I was going to get my hair taken care of. It only took me walking in to know that I'm not getting my hair done here. I walked in and it smelled like an animals cage... it was dark and cluttered... I wasn't greeted after I said "hello". I walked over to the price list to review and still no attention given.... When you walk in the shop. there's plenty that catch your eye as the hairdresser work their magic. Among that there's a funny poster that list the "Stylist's Ten Commandments. I have to admit that i broke one! (whoops.) I think one of them says "Thou shalt not switch from one stylist to another". I couldn't help it! i had a hair emergency. i needed a wash badly. i pushed it for 3 weeks after getting my perm and as a bad customer i didn't make an appointment. I just walked right in hoping Jenny was there but she wasn't :(. So i was in Keisha's hands this time. I requested one relaxer and the lady doing my hair started off with that relaxer and then used another because she ran out of the one I requested and she did not know it was almost finished. Honestly it was the end of the day and she didn't really seem like she was up for it but did it anyways. If hair is what you love, then at all times should the service be exceptional. Two weeks ago I found a deal on Groupon for this salon, so I decided to give it a try. My hair is natural and I wanted a color as well. I called and spoke to the owner. I sent a pic of what I wanted. My hair was colored, washed, conditioned, trimmed, blown out and styled. My hair looked beautiful. I recieved so many compliments. Sorry but my experience was terrible. I had my weave done there 3 weeks before by Nay who was no longer there. I went back to get it redone. The owner told me since I had had my hair done there she wouldn't charge me for the take out. I get there she is working on two people at the same time. I wait. She takes out my weave washes my hair and leaves me there. Another stylist comes in does a full weave on another customer who comes in, completes it and I'm still sitting there. The owner starts washing my weave. Another stylist comes in with two little girls completes one little girl'shair and I'm still sitting there. The owner finally tells me she doesn't know how to do weave and I have to wait for the other stylist who is now in the middle of the second little girl's hair. I ask to get done by the stylist who completed the full head weave and she says I can't because she a freelancer, but she's sitting there doing nothing. I arrived at 9 and I left at 5 and they did nothing but braid my hair because I got so frustrated I just left! Never again poor poor service. Recently I went on vacation to New York with my husband and his sister. Of course my plans were changed and turned upside down when I found out my sister-in-law had her own agenda. Weave!!!! She had just gotten her hair professionally weaved in Atlanta why on earth did she want to get it re-done. Oh it was the color of the hair that she had purchased. So we went to Gigi's in Uptown (my husband googled it on his own-bless his heart) to get her hair. Perfect!!! No not perfect. Now we had to find someone to do the sew-in, on a Sunday....Help me God to find someone that will satisfy this woman before I ......Anyhow everyone was booked for two weeks or didn't do closure. Finally, a voice came across my wireless phone.....chimes began to ring and it was Hermie.....Hi Hermie I need your help. I'm in New York from Atlanta for a few days and my sister-in-law needs someone to do a full sew-in, is there any way that you can fit us in. PLEASE. Although she was booked, she scheduled us to come in Monday morning. She carefully removed the hair from the previous sew-in and began sewing the other hair in...within a few minutes another stylist came in, whom Hermie had called in specifically to assist us, on her off day. Make you want to cry!! This young woman worked magic to my sister-in-law's head. Within seconds my vacation from Hell was transformed to satisfaction guaranteed. I was amazed at how quickly she got the sew-in done, the hair cut and off we went on the number 5 train back to downtown Brooklyn. Went here to get my hair relaxed & styled and I must say that I was impressed overall. Even though the shop is on the smaller site, the service and quality makes up for it. Firstly, the owner Hermie is a pleasant lady making you feel welcomed. They constantly keep you updated so that I wasn't kept waiting too long during each step. Worst experience EVER!!! Where do I start, well with the fact that I was literally there for over six hours. Got there at 11am didn't walk out until about almost 6pm!!! Told the owner I will be there at 11 AM and I was on time! she got there about 11:45AM. I Came to get a sew in.. she had this young girl braiding my hair (Tee). The girl was so lifeless clearly she didn't want to be there I had to tell her multiple times braid my hair tighter. I even did two braids myself to show her! That took about three hours. The owner clearly overbooked herself two other ladies came in after me and left before me they both got a perm. By the time the owner came to sew in my weave everything was so off! There was extra strands of string hanging from my hair! She say she been doing this for 35 years! The sad part is that she clearly is not living in 2018! Multiple times she stabbed me in my head with the needle!!! It just kept getting worse by the minute!! There were many lumps and extra strands of string. I told her about it she try to fix it but clearly she is out of her league.. this is not her specialty!!! I honestly felt like she was robbing me with a smile on her face!! I never felt so angry at a hairstylist specially one that have been doing it for 35 years and the owner of the shop at that,just sad!! I honestly don't recommend you get your sew in here! She charge me $100 I had to send $25 through PayPal for a deposit as if she's that good it's just a joke, this place is on Groupon yelp Google Facebook and other websites but it's terrible I don't understand why she would even promote herself like that!
