I am not one to typically write reviews on anything, but sometimes oblige a verbal opinion if asked. However these recent write-ups by newer establishment patrons, that are "competitors" to Heroes, have led me to voice my opinion (what little it may be worth). I have been a patron of Heroes for almost 20 years (pretty consistently) across all their locations, including the one(s) that were run by John's brother. Tyler (the person normally working the store) will take the time to answer (IMHO) the most mundane questions, and show extra courtesy to younger clientele. Additionally, Heroes doesn't nickel and dime consumers, offering on the spot discounts for shelf items and spot updates for trading card items. I've also never had an issues letting them buy cards they opt to buy (buy-list or not), and it is only fair to acknowledge demand for chase cards is volatile within a week's time, let alone the frequency of the buy-list updates. This is a brick and mortar store; not Card Kingdom or SCG (by comparison). Tyler is the one who tells the patrons to control their language when there are children present. By contrast, some of these newer stores now are host to players deemed by the general community as some of the most toxic (by measure other than vulgarity in some regards), particularly among the regular players of Magic: the Gathering. I am (admittedly) no saint and have at least an understanding with the stores I frequent, but aforementioned toxic people have been deemed worse by the community at large by a substantial margin. In closing and for reference, I annually try to go to as many LGSs in a given year (excluding Covid 2020) within the Greater Houston Area just to see what they are like, and Heroes is the one I choose to frequent most followed by 3rd Coast (for comparative location context against some of the newer stores). I also used to frequent Strikezone,and still sell cards to them (even at larger events like Magic Fests where there are more options) because their buy prices are competitive and I prefer to support local businesses. read more

AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS!! Just started collecting cards and the guy that runs this shop is the rudest guy I've ever interacted with. Spent so much money there because it's the closet shop to me. Yet every interaction he has with me is like he hates me. I guess trying to negotiate prices soured him on dealing with me. Real gatekeeper attitude. It's like pulling teeth every time I interact with him. His whole demeanor is like he has such disdain for me, even when I'm giving him my money. Either that or he's racist because he doesn't have that attitude with the white customers who buy from him. This shop has the highest prices in the city and the lowest payout if you're looking to sell your cards. This last interaction with him was the last straw. I should've just walked out with the way he talked to me. He was angry that I would ask for his overpriced $4.57 card to be an even $4 card. The card is worth $3. Tried to give the guy the benefit of the doubt but I can only take so much. Will never shop here again. And no one should either. read more

The team at Heroes has been an absolute joy to work with for 5+ years, they are extremely fair about buylist prices, will help set up locals and communities for fledgeling games, and go above and beyond to make a safe and welcoming place for all customers. As a female player I've had to deal with harassment at other stores that I will not name here. When an issue occured during tourney, the store clerk handled it professionally and made it clear to the gentleman that that language and treatment would never be appropriate at Heroes. It's the reason I drove 45+ minutes to make it there for locals each week before COVID. No other shop in Houston was as welcoming and caring. And their selection of singles is fantastic. read more

I first stumbled upon when I saw a Facebook post about one piece heroine cards. I've been there 3 times now and they specialize in mostly sealed stock and tournaments for the different tcgs. They sell a variety of tcgs: weiss schwarz, pokemon ,one piece, Gundam, riftbound. Prices are very reasonable and fair. My third time I was able to enter my first one piece prerelease tournament. The players were so kind and patient with me and the owner and staff were super friendly making sure I could have someone teach me the basics and lending me don!! cards. Overall, a great experience both playing and buying. Will definitely continue to support this shop in the future and hope to learn how to get better at playing OP tcg. I hope they start adding pokemon to their tournaments and have some other events like trade night or model building.

I had only visited one other TCG card store previously and this was a starkly different experience in the best way possible. I was immediately greeted warmly by Taylor and given an overview of what the store offered - Pokémon, Yu-Gi-Oh, Disney Lorcana, One Piece, and some accessories (e.g. play mats, card sleeves, etc.). My friends and I purchased two Paldean Fates tins and the remaining three 151 booster packs. We sat at one of the open tables whilst some other people were participating in the weekly Yu-Gi-Oh tournament. We opened all of our packs and still wanted more, so my friend went back to the counter to purchase the 151 poster pack that we had originally passed on. Within the 30 minutes that we were there, someone had purchased it! Totally understandable given the hype around this set and how reasonable this store's prices are. To scratch the itch, Taylor pulled out a box of common Pokémon cards for us to flip though. These were organized by set and by holographic, reverse holographic, etc. I ended up purchasing about 10-15 of these cards for $4. Almost all of them were $0.25 each with the exception of two that were a bit less common, which Taylor checked the market prices of and then charged me about a $1 for each - again very fair and reasonable. My hubby is a recently card collector as well but for Yu-Gi-Oh, so I picked up some goodies for him too, which included a Quarter Century Bonanza booster box containing 24 packs for $95. I mentioned to Taylor that the hubby was missing one card to complete Exodia - I knew there were different versions of these cards from different sets but Taylor immediately pieced together which card I was looking for and pulled put a binder of singles to show me. I was definitely my hubby's favorite person because that was exactly the card that he was looking for and he also pulled some rares from the booster box.
