My party of 6 arrived around 7:30pm on a Saturday night. Upon arrival, there was a horrendous sewage stench that made all of us really worried. We all looked at each other silently with concern. The hostess was incredibly nice and sat us promptly. We ordered drinks right away (it was National Margarita Day). We didn't know if we wanted food but we ordered after seeing the plethora of options on the menu. I got the fajitas poblanos with my mother and it was really good. It comes with an obsessive amount of bacon, so be prepared. My brother got a bowl of charro beans & his friend got a marinated steak. Everyone loved their food, forgetting the disgusting sewage smell. The house margarita was fine, nothing special. The frozen one was difficult to drink as it stayed frozen the whole time. Our water glasses were always full and something really special happened: the waitresses sang happy birthday to my sister in law with a tambourine, treating her to a puff pastry filled with ice cream and whipped cream. This is one of our favorite Mexican restaurants. All of our friends that we have taken love it as well. The fajitas are always seasoned so well and so tender, lots of food. Reasonable prices. I don't know why this place isn't busier. Maybe because it's in front of Hobby Lobby in a strip center, near Walmart. But they should have their own standalone restaurant because they're so good. The rice is absolutely amazing. We all love it and we actually get some extra to take home. Everything we have tried has been excellent. We highly recommend this restaurant and we hope that they do better and more people will give it a try. they have a bar area you can sit at as well and have drinks. Try it! It was a bit empty but it was Monday or Tuesday. But warm red sauce was so good, green was okay spicy. Slow service but kind. Asked more tortillas. Good price when we got check. Second visit was Friday, still pretty empty again for Friday on a Mexican restaurant. Stayed that way while there. This time slowly server with same waiter. Same food but this time only chicken fajita delicious with onions. This time didn't get sour cream but we didn't say anything. The same drink was watered margarita. The check came and more expensive, charged 3 tortillas this time over 3 dollars! Had to ask for more chips to finish the salsa. The lady who gives the chips and salsa was nice though and refilled water. The waiter was slow for everything we asked and it was a empty restaurant. But surprise the change between the first visit. Older building and maybe a small staff and small business. We don't plan to return also this not the safest area off fm 529 dark parking lot. This is the go to neighborhood Mexican restaurant for us. We have been coming here for probably 15 years and it's been exactly the same food quality and consistency. Friendly people and they are always on top of service. We always recommend it to anyone in the area. Enchiladas verdes are delicious chicken fajita but the salsa verde on them is exceptional. My only request would be for them to have a tomatillo avocado salsa on the table with the chips. read more

OK, So this is literally the closest Mexican restaurant to our house and I've always been skeptical to try it out because no one is ever there. Well the joke is definitely on me. I've been missing out big time. We decided to give it a shot and boy was it good!! So I love enchiladas, any kind actually. I wanted to try it out on a sizzling cast iron skillet this time. So I asked the waiter if they could do that and he said yes, and that no one has ever asked this before. YOU MUST TRY THIS! It is delicious, the cheese is bubbling and not burnt when you receive it. And the cast iron keeps the cheese gooey! Seriously ask for this and let me know what you think! The fajitas were also great! The tortillas are made in-house and great margaritas!!! If you grew up in Texas, it's likely that your family had a go to local Mexican restaurant that was part of a dining routine that your family shared for years. Mine certainly did. We all enjoyed it until they leveled the building for a parking garage. Well, aside from being a really good purveyor of Tex-Mex fare. That's what this is! I love this place. I'm kind of a purist and I love my crispy tacos! I also love to get an enchilada or two and refritos are mandatory. All of these elements are available in a wide variety of combinations. Really very good and very comforting. Also, check out the soups! This the season! Great offerings at Herredurs. Bar is outstanding with great margaritas in a rainbow of flavors. Another delicious lunch, chicken nacho lunch plate. well seasoned fresh warm chips, guac, cheese and sour cream with grilled chicken and cheese. Add a pomegranate margarita and it was a very satisfying meal. My Hubby had his usual enchilada plate. We eat here at least once a month-it's a treat and we have always been satisfied. I've been recently trying Mexican restaurants right near where I live to show support.. this one Mexican restaurant is right in front of the Walmart right down the street from me. It had changed ownership a few years back and wanted to try it again. I ordered the Frozen house Margarita which was $5. Not bad price! Unfortunately It wasn't good at all. It had a very weird flavor. I then ordered their fish tacos and I was also not a fan. Luckily they had an awesome chipotle sauce that I asked for. It made it more bearable to eat. This is the first time I've had Birria tacos, so I can't say they are the best but I will say I really liked them and will come back again for them. I visited this restaurant for the first time last Sunday for lunch as I don't frequent this part of Houston often. It was a light crowd when I walked in and noticed a bar area separated from the dining area by a 5' tall partition. They offered a lunch menu along with the dinner menu and I chose the chicken fajitas from the dinner menu for $12.99. The chips and dark red salsa arrived immediately along with my drink. The salsa was warm and tasty with a slight peppery flavor. The chips were fresh and crispy. I enjoyed them both. About 10 minutes later my meal arrived. The dinner portion is $4 more but comes with more meat along with cheese. The charro beans were very good with bacon and veggies in them. The 3 homemade tortillas were nice and warm and along with the tender chicken and grilled onions made for a satisfying meal. During the meal I was thinking of giving a 3.5 but the guacamole and cheese increased it to a 4. The tastes of those two ingredients pushed the meal up in score. During my meal, the table service was excellent. That's because every server in the restaurant checked on my table and provided more salsa, gave drink refills or whatever. This team approach worked. This place is seriously solid, and you wouldn't expect it given the location. If you live in this area, trust me, visit it and it'll become your new favorite Tex-Mex place. The salsa is AMAZING. One of the best salsas at a Tex Mex place that I've had, and I have had a lot of Tex Mex!! It's hot and spicy, but just the right amount. It's full of flavor and cilantro. The tortilla chips are great as well and pair excellent with their delicious queso, definitely add the ground beef for $1 more. The food is great quality as well. Everything is delicious! Their nachos, dinner/lunch specials, and enchiladas are solid. Try the chicken and spinach enchiladas if you want to try something fresh and unique. It has an awesome bacony corn cream sauce, and unique type of rice. If you want something more typical Tex Mex get the Celaya Special or anyone of their dinner specials. Overall food is very good, and service is so, so good! They're constantly bringing out more salsa and chips, and they are so good about refilling drinks (so important when you're eating spicy foods). On another quest to find (with the assistance of the yelp app) a nearby and new to me spot for Mexican food, I happened upon this place. I walked in to what appeared to be the average look and feel for a Mexican restaurant. Nothing really jumped out at me to write about that was unique. The greeting was standard. Definitely above average even in the average setting. Margarita: Reasonably priced. Nicely made and balanced. I tid-bit too frozen but definitely above average even in the average setting. Fajita Tacos: Homemade tortilla with real beef. Nice amount of beef per taco and way above average even in the average setting. Tamales: Not homemade. But tasty. Spot on average. Not postcard worthy but they will serve it in the husk upon request. Spot on average. Beef enchiladas: Nicely done. A bit above average and I will order again even in the average setting. Beef Fajitas: I know, I know what you're thinking but I ordered in small portions. But...I enjoyed all I ate. These babies are totally the real deal with some grilled jalapeños. Definitely above average and the settings and 2 ritas later where starting to look above average too at this point. I enjoyed my time here and have now been twice. I didn't try the bacon wrapped shrimp because I asked about how they were prepared and they are deep fried vs grilled. I have to give this spot three stars... as its average. This was my first time coming here as I'm new to the area. I walked in just wanting to order a torta (Mexican sandwich) to go. First thing I noticed as I walked in at 6:20pm the place was completely empty. The hostess was sitting at the bar watching tv and asked if I wanted a table. I told her no I wanted to place an order to go. She asked if I needed a menu and I said "no I just want a torta" which she then informed me they didn't sell tortas. I decided to order from the menu mainly because I didn't want to drive somewhere else. I realized the menu is more Tex-mex than Mexican. I chose the mole enchiladas and was charged a "to-go" fee. Once I got home and opened my plate, I saw there was hardly any rice or beans. After tasting the rice and beans I wasn't upset, not only did it lack portion size it also lacked flavor. This is a local place. My neighbor and I like to go here for appetizers and margaritas. Both are quite tasty. I order the top shelf margarita, and my friend the mango. I'm not a fan of sweet margaritas, but my friend loves it. The top shelf is a quality drink, made with good quality tequila. Very yummy, and I'm picky. We have tried several of the appetizers. Our favorite is the jalapeños stuffed with shrimp and cheese. Holy cow! So good. When ordered elsewhere, they are usually pretty greasy. Not at all greasy and totally delicious. After reading all the great reviews on yelp we decided to go for dinner. There was not very many people dining when we arrived. We had a gentlemen has our waiter. He did not tell us his name; so I guess I will just call him "waiter." He took our drink order then left to go get them. The menu was quite large, so it took us a little bit to read it. "Waiter" returned with our drinks. My husband started asking him questions about if the guacamole had tomatoes in it. He did not know so he started to say yes it does, then changed to no it doesn't. Then he just walked away to go into the kitchen. He returns and said tomatoes are just one top. Ok. BUT, then some lady comes from the kitchen and asked us what was our question.(I'm seeing a huge red flag on this place) "Waiter" walks away. She told us we can order it any way we want because they make it when you order it. Ok; sounds great. So here comes "Waiter" to take our order. My husband orders guacamole without tomatoes. He told we could not order it that way. After explaining the lady said we could he walks off again without even taken the rest of our order. We think he might be in the kitchen again asking about the guacamole but NO he was getting another table their food and serving them and just ignoring us. Since this man did not know how the food he serves are prepared and does not know how to say, "I don't know but I will go check," or "excuse me while I go check" instead he just rudely walked off. We did the same think- we walked out. Wish we would have had a waiter or waitress that knows their job. We really wanted to try this place.
