They have EXTREMELY PISS POOR COMMUNICATION. You can never get a human on the phone that can actually understand and assist you. I rent a car from the and now there's a mechanical issue no can assist me. I got an oil change 8/2 why 9/16 it's saying oil level low. I called hertz and no response be can put a voucher in the system. The cut has cut off twice. And no one answers the phone and the one in Union station where I picked up the vehicle up from. read more

Trust the ratings on this one and do not rent here. We had many issues but I will focus on two. One, the customer service is terrible. They gave us a hard time for showing up 20 mins before close (even though the website shows as being able to rent until close at 5pm and that was what we booked through the website) and then when we came to return it 20 mins before close, the girl was literally leaving for the day. Had we not gotten there early, we would have been paying for extra time on the vehicle even though their office is open till 5pm and that was the time the rental was due. Two, the vehicle was disgusting and had not been clean. There was even trash in the trunk. We couldn't complain because again, they apparently leave work before closing at 5pm. Do yourself a favor and go to budget across the street or drive up to BWI. read more

Weren't ready for my timed reservation. Didn't honor my reservation car size. Completely unwilling to compensate for the bait and switch.

The car was dirty inside and really smelled terrible. The cars are only lightly cleaned between renters. Check in process to over 85 minutes because of their error. It is worth the drive to the airport to get a car. The Annapolis location is a joke. I expected better from the Hertz name. read more

If I could give no stars I would. When making the reservation I asked to be picked up from the bodyshop. I dropped my car off and Hertz, was a no show. I called Hertz for ten minutes with no answer. Luckily the bodyshop gave me a ride to the Hertz location. Upon my arrival, there were two employees there. I inquired why I was not picked up, she said they did not have anything in their system to do so. They also did not have vehicle I requested. I had no choice but to take a larger vehicle. The vehicle was not completely clean, but I had to get to work so I left. Upon returning the vehicle an employee said she had just closed the office as she was dropping off a client. She asked could I wait until she returned. She then did a quick look around and said everything was fine and took the keys. Two weeks later I received a call from the same employee asking when would I be returning the vehicle. Just ridiculous! read more

Pretty horrible place to rent a vehicle. I had the unfortunate fortune to come here and there was a elder black gentleman (figure of speech, he was the opposite of gentle and smelled some racial vibe from him), who was extremely rude. The second time there was a young lady who was texting on her phone for about 15 minutes in the middle of my transaction (is there no professionalism left here? That was the final straw for me. Now I get my cars from Enterprise on West St and these guys are the real deal. From dress up to handling clients, you can tell these guys are literate and has sufficient manners. So I had a different experience than the other reviewers. I had some issues with a rental out of DC and no one at the toll free number was willing to help me. They wanted me to drive back from Annapolis to DC to resolve them. Out of desperation I thought I would try the local Annapolis branch since it was only a mile or two from my hotel. The manager there as fantastic and fixed my paperwork in about 10 minutes. No trip to DC necessary. Yes - the office is in a small trailer, but I was the only one there at that time and received incredibly quick service. Would totally rent from that office! read more

I definitely would not rent from this location ever again. Don't be in hurry if you are picking up a car! The one girl working was nice enough, but clearly was overwhelmed by the numerous amount of people in the small tiny trailer that is their office. She had no Managment skills and basically would start another transaction before another one was completed making the pile up even worse in the trailer. It took over an hour and a half to pick up the car. Come on Hertz staff your locations better!! The little lot has no selection of cars and when I did get my car the maintenance light was on. read more

It was the worst experience with a car rental place I ever had. They charged me twice for a deposit then refused to accept the blame for the error. We had the car for 2 weeks and that overcharge has still not been credited back. When we complained she threatened to call the police. When we tried to call them we were put on hold 3 times 20 minutes apiece resulting in having to go into the office to complain. Then when we got back from our trip we took the time to clean the car with care wanting it turned in in the condition we received it in. They said they found ashes on the floor and charged us $75. We did not smoke in it. Who knows how long it will take them to refund the $400 hold they have on my account. I will never use Hertz again. read more

I've never reviewed a place on yelp before but made an account just to review this hertz rent a car. It was the absolute worst experience I've ever had trying to rent a car. I frequently travel for work and have never dealt with such an unprofessional and poorly managed car rental place. I booked the reservation online for 9:00am because I had a meeting to go to. I arrive at 9 and my car isn't there. There were three other people waiting for their cars. One left and and got an uber. The man working there told me it would be 20 mins. 40 minutes later the car was finally there. He asks for my license which i provided but because I recently moved to a different state, the state I moved to issues temporary licenses at the DMV and sends you the real one in the mail within a few weeks. Which apparently isn't uncommon but the guy working at the desk went to check to see if they could accept it. And this is when it became unbelievably unprofessional and rude. I could hear all of the employees in the back laughing at the temporary license and talking about how it looks like I made it. They were extremely rude and loud about it and then refused to rent me a car which I already paid for. If their policy is to not accept temporary licenses that's fine, but I didn't see that anywhere on the website. In fact I think I saw that they do accept them. But these employees were incredibly rude and unprofessional when I could hear them laughing at and taking loudly about how my license looked like I made it. There's a ton of other rental car agencies on that street. So I would recommend any of those of using hertz rent a car, especially if you are trying to get somewhere on time. read more

I rented from Hertz because their last minute online rate for a full-size vehicle was better than Enterprise. Should have paid more and gone to Enterprise. This location of Hertz does not have a good selection of vehicles and the cars they have are not well maintained. The Camry they gave me had almost bald tires and on our way back from Atlanta to Maryland, one of the tires blew out on 85N, in the middle of nowhere, about 60 miles from Richmond. It was raining and cold and just starting to get dark and our phones barely had network. Decided to quickly change the tire rather than call roadside assistance since that would take about an hour, at least. Guess what I found when I pulled out the spare? It had no air in it, zero, nada..nothing at all! Even if I had called AAA, they wouldn't have been able to change the tire cos the spare tire had never been checked by the ever diligent Hertz reps who are oh so busy. Called Hertz roadside assistance and they sent a tow truck about an hour later. We were towed to the nearest airport location i.e Richmond International for an exchange. Several hours later we were on our way back home. Must add that the friendliest and most helpful person through all of this was the tow truck driver (Donny). The Hertz reps in Annapolis and Richmond acted like this happens often and they couldn't care less. Stuff happens is what the rep in Annapolis told me. Lesson learned..check the spare before you rent a car from anywhere. read more

One of the worst places I've been to in the Annapolis area. After my car was hit and run our insurance company he is fully covered under Hertz. When we arrived to get our car they confidently had no cars left that were under our insurances plan so I got the next size car up (more like 5 sizes up according to them) and agreed to pay the extra $130 a week out of pocket for the car so I could get to work. Then found out my car had more damage and our insurance called hertz to extend the time for the rental. When we went to return our rental somehow we ended up "owing" them $400 more for our rental that was covered under insurance with some BS about "insurance damage policy" that we DID NOT agree to or sign for. The man was so rude to our family and then stated we had to pay and then could take our receipt and talk to their billing and MAYBE see if we could get reimbursed within 3-5 business days. Was impolite and no help with the situation at hand. I will NEVER use hertz to rent any car ever again read more

This is a good Hertz location. Nick is the guy there ! He asks how you are doing and provides excellent service. There usually have a good variety of cars there. It can get busy at times but I wouldn't rent from any rental company other than Hertz. read more

I went on 6/27/17 and the staff (a white man and black woman with dreads) was rude, not personable, conversed as if I wasn't even there. They were rude to the insurance co trying to work with them to get me a rental. Needless to say the guy lied to the insurance co and said they didn't have any vehicles available (all of a sudden) out of frustration and then proceeded to but me out of the trailer that smelled like a toilet a half hour before they closed. No one offered any assistance. They didn't offer a ride or water...nothing! I was left standing in their parking lot! I had to call a Lyft to get home. These people had ZERO customer service in my experience! I don't know how a company continues to operate when you treat even just a few people the way I was treated. If at all possible please do not use this Hertz location. read more

hertz rental cars will rip you off !!!!!!! beware of being ripped off:..... do not use hertz rental!!!!!!! again attention: do not use hertz (location: 2001 west street, annapolis, md)....... at the time of rental, they explained that i could bring back the car with a full tank or they would charge my credit card. at the time of return, i filled the car and drove approximate 1/4 of a mile to the collision center... the hertz people have an office in the collision place. however the employee was not in. the collision place assured me that hertz would just come and pick it up, which i assumed they did. however i now have a $26.39 charge to my account. now keep this in mind........ all what comes next happened in the same same conversation today. they 1st told me that the car only had 3/4 tank of gas. which is wrong "a lie" how do you use 1/4 tank in 2 blocks??? then he said that when i fill up the car it has a shut off switch and i may not have filled it up all the way. "hello" .... i explained well it would not of shut off for you as well??????.... i then said that i knew state farm has an agreement of $1.99 a gallon (per the conversation when i checked the car out), how does $26.39 (approximatly 13 gallons) compute to a 1/4 tank of gas????? now he said .......well they charged you for a full tank, no matter how much is in the tank when you return. they're excuse changed with every turn of the conversation. they then said ..... because my account was "closed out" the only thing they could do for me was issue me a credit on my next rental.... i will never use them again, not just west street but any where i travel. ..... had the employee been at the collision place my account would of been handled properly....i picked the car up approximate time 3:00 pm, not the end of the day after business hours. hertz rental cars, really a bad place to do business. do not use hertz rental cars !!!!!!!!! read more

I had a very bad experience with this office and the manager at the time, Karen Piper. I am a regular customer of Hertz and a Number One Club Gold member. Typically my experience is very good, which is why I contacted them for this very important rental that went wrong. Some family, friends and I make an annual trip to the Indianapolis 500, about 4 or 5 years ago we started loading up in a big SUV and driving out instead of flying, both fun and money saving. I know the type of vehicle we need to do this and it is a large suburban or expedition type SUV. I contacted Ms. Piper back in February and made it very clear to her the type of vehicle we required and she was very clear in stating to me that the vehicle would be available to be picked up on May 26. I contacted her office to check on the availability of the vehicle a couple days before the rental because I need to be sure it is the extended version and not the regular SUV. I was told that the vehicle was not available and that there was nothing they could do about it. I subsequently spoke to Ms. Piper and she denied confirming the availability of that vehicle. Had there been any question regarding the availability of the specific type of vehicle I would have gone elsewhere to resources I have used previously and gotten the exact vehicle we require. There was no equivocation in her statement that the vehicle would be available on May 26. That's bad enough but my calls to Hertz customer service resulted in extremely long hold times, incorrect transfers and staff that were not at all helpful. I received two promises of calls from a manager neither of which resulted in any follow up. Unbelievably bad experience. read more

Rented a civic in September 2014. Called all the rental agencies and used all the search engines. Hertz gave me the best price and a free upgrade to a civic for a three week rental. Staff was helpful, knowledgeable, friendly, and caring. I thought Hertz being the largest would be the most expensive and impersonal. I was totally wrong. Next time I will call Hertz Annapolis first for an auto rental in the Annapolis area. Only negative is the small parking lot and recessed easy to miss location from West street. All the other pluses far out weighed that one minor inconvenience. read more
