Absolutely the worst car rental experience I've ever had. I would not recommend this company. The vehicle was dirty, sticky, and clearly had not been properly cleaned before pickup. After only one day and less than 40 miles of driving, the check engine light came on. I immediately contacted customer service and was told I could return the vehicle. Since they didn't have another SUV available, I planned to rent from another company. The biggest issue was the lack of customer service and accountability. I prepaid for 5 days but only had the vehicle for 1 day, and I was not refunded for the unused rental period. Customer service told me they would open a claim for a refund, but that never happened. When I spoke with the counter staff, I was told there was nothing they could do and that it had to go through customer service -- who then failed to follow through. I paid for a service I was unable to use and was left with no resolution. Poor communication, poor customer service, and an overall awful experience. I received a car as part of my service. They intentionally provided me a car that had a tire filled with "fix-a-flat". When the tire gave out and I couldn't make it to return the vehicle they tried to make me pay for the tow. They had me drive a car that was unsafe. Lousey Company. So what is your response? Horrible service. I walked out as it was clear the customer person did not want to rent me a car. Made an online reservation with an estimated time of arrival. Arrived 25 minutes early. The car was available but I was told I had to wait 25 minutes until the time I had reserved it for. I offered to pay for the difference (although shouldn't need to if it is a daily rate) and was told that because I used Expedia to reserve I couldn't do anything. After providing my license, I was asked to provide a copy of my car insurance policy. I explained that I had purchased coverage when I had reserved the car. The customer service person then told me that this company does not accept "third party" coverage and I needed to provide my own. That's when I left. read more

This location is tucked behind the mazda/mitsubishi dealership in Annapolis. The parking lot is TINY and FULL, so just be careful when driving around. I was given a rental from the Mitsubishi dealership at this location. The in-person visit went almost perfectly except the system wouldn't let me add any dings or issues with the vehicle. Mind you I hadn't even seen the car at this point, so I had no clue about any issues. If this comes back to bite me, you can be sure I'll mention it here and drop some stars. The major downside about this location is trying to reach them. When I was there at 5PM on a Wednesday there was one person working the front desk. One phone call came in and that made things more difficult for that person trying to answer the phone and deal with my reservation. It turned out my reservation needed to be extended a couple times which meant I needed to call and check that it happened by the dealership. Calling their listed number sends you to Nextcar's main line, not the Annapolis office. When I'd ask if the agreement had been extended, the person would have no clue. I'd eventually be transferred to the Annapolis office on hold. After around 2 minutes the line would hang up. This happened 4 times before I called the number again and told them they needed to send me to a different number. The person apologized, said they'd do a "warm handoff" and I waited. Next thing I know I'm back on the hold line and hung up again. Annoying and a total waste of an hour and a half with nothing to show for it. Trying to have Nextcar and the dealership that is literally a 2 minute walk away from them talk to each other is far more difficult than it should be. What I learned is the contract automatically renews the night before, meaning it would appear the car is due back Monday up until Monday morning. Instead of saying "we'll call the dealership and check" I had to act as a go between to make sure everything went smoothly. At times employees at the dealership would say "I have no idea about that" or "Call them (nextcar) and tell them to extend it" only to be told the dealership needed to call. So yeah, coordination clearly isn't their strong suit and can lead to headaches. Would I rent a car from them again? Yeah, the process was pretty painless. If I thought there would be a need to extend it or talk to someone, I'd probably look elsewhere. read more

Very affordable car rental! This is my 2nd time renting from NextCar. Small cars go for about $36/day. This is very convenient to a few auto repair places on West Street and it would be worth renting a car from this place so you can drop your car off at the shop and not worry about having the work done so you can get on with your life. You can call the place or make an online reservation. Be prepared to show license and proof of insurance. They will not skimp on that. The staff was very friendly and hassle free. THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EXPERIENCE EVER!!!!!!! Let me start by saying Kim the apparent "manager" of this location is the nastiest woman i have ever spoken too in my life, and the main reason for taking the time to write this review. I booked my car with no problems thinking id just need the car a few days to a week, i ended up needing to extend my rental and when i called was told it would be no problem, my daily rental amount would just continue to be billed as the days went on. long story short i had the car for 14 days, and on the last day of having the rental (unbeknownst to me) i get a call from "Kim" at next car informing me that they were having trouble billing my card. This was the first time i had heard of this (i even checked my voicemails from the weekend, nothing) I called my bank who had placed a stop payment on the transaction bc it had rolled over so many times without me physically swiping my card. I got it lifted and called next car back all within 10-15 mins. When i went to walk out to the car to grab my rental info it was GONE (20 mins before i was to leave for work) When i got ahold of Kim (who apparently has a hard time allowing others to speak, and when speaking herself cannot speak below a decibel of 586748) She informed me the car was picked up by LOSS PREVENTION (again within the 1st !% mins of me ever hearing about the billing issue) and was told that even if they processed my payment now that i was out of luck and i couldnt continue my rental, she didnt know where the car was (with both of my car seats and all of my work supplies) and that if i was that concerned i should have "paid my bill" she admitted that i may not have been informed about the billing issue prior bc it fell over a "weekend" (how the hell is that my problem!?!) I ended up having to go and get my pers . onal items out of the car the following day, was billed the last charge of $52.37 and then was informed that i would NOT be getting my deposit back. When i asked for an explanation why all KIM could tell me was that i "owed" it to them despite paying the daily rental amount and when i asked for a price BREAKDOWN she sent me a receipt with no descriptions. My main issue is the lack of customer service, communication, and explanation. Kim ultimately hung up on me and has yet to respond with my rental breakdown. Made the mistake of trying here again. First time I made a reservation the truck was not there when I went to pick it up, I was told because I was late. I can understand mistakes, but the customer service was HORRIBLE. Today I chose the prepay method, figuring they will not give my truck away if I prepay. As it turns out, they had no trucks in stock today and was told the reservation should not have been allowed online due to their lack of trucks. Again, I can forgive that, but not the HORRIBLE customer service that went along with this experience. When I asked for a refund, I was just told "I don't have your money" Not "lets call corporate and see what we can do", or "I'm really sorry, but what you're going to have to do here is call this 800 number and explain..." nothing. Next Car is as good as it can possibly get for a business or visitor looking for reliable and reasonably priced rental cars. Period. I am often in the Annapolis area for business. I fly into Baltimore and can take a shuttle down to Annapolis and get dropped off at Next Car. The staff there, especially Kim the Manager and Ian the Assistant Manager are two of the most helpful, efficient and reliable service-oriented people it's been my pleasure to do business with. I recently completed a multi-month rental with them, and in addition to providing me with an excellent rate, made sure that I was able to easily renew my contract and switch vehicles as needed throughout my rental. I will continue to do business with them as long as I'm on the East Coast, even if it means I have to travel farther to do so, as their customer service ethic leaves all the major companies in the dust. They're small, they're local, and they're committed to great service. The didn't tell us about this problem and when we called to let them know, they already knew and did not bother to correct it. How much is your deductible, $500? You would pay the same amount using their coverage for a month. If their is an accident and you opted out, they will charge you administration fees, which are upwards of $500 as well as loss of income from possible rentals of that vehicle. I needed a car for 6 months while my car had an engine swap, yeah 6 months!!! so I would have spent over 3 grand to use their coverage. After a month, Nov 2012, I had an accident and brought the car in and they swapped it out and told me everything will be taken care of and they will inform me about any charges. I received nothing for months, questioned the employees and they said had no information on it. I even got phone calls from my insurance saying this matter was taken care of. In July 2014, I got a call from the collections office about a $1000 debt to nextcar. Come to find out, another office deals with the claims so the rental office can deal with the rentals. Step your game up, nextcar, when it comes to cross-office communications. It's your job to protect the consumer and keep them informed. Anyways, shame on me for thinking they had some compassion for the consumer or the willingness to remove delinquency charges on a bill that I never received or got a phone call about, that is until it was sent to collections. You should contact the rental office to see if my info is right when you don't get a response instead of saying, fuck it, pay me. I could rant all day but you know what I'm getting at.
