After only one day and less than 40 miles of driving, the check engine light came on. I immediately contacted customer service and was told I could return the vehicle. Since they didn't have another SUV available, I planned to rent from another company. The biggest issue was the lack of customer service and accountability. I prepaid for 5 days but only had the vehicle for 1 day, and I was not refunded for the unused rental period. Customer service told me they would open a claim for a refund, but that never happened. When I spoke with the counter staff, I was told there was nothing they could do and that it had to go through customer service -- who then failed to follow through. I paid for a service I was unable to use and was left with no resolution. Poor communication, poor customer service, and an overall awful experience. Do yourself a favor and rent somewhere else.

This location of Hertz does not have a good selection of vehicles and the cars they have are not well maintained. The Camry they gave me had almost bald tires and on our way back from Atlanta to Maryland, one of the tires blew out on 85N, in the middle of nowhere, about 60 miles from Richmond. It was raining and cold and just starting to get dark and our phones barely had network. Decided to quickly change the tire rather than call roadside assistance since that would take about an hour, at least. Guess what I found when I pulled out the spare? It had no air in it, zero, nada..nothing at all! Even if I had called AAA, they wouldn't have been able to change the tire cos the spare tire had never been checked by the ever diligent Hertz reps who are oh so busy. Called Hertz roadside assistance and they sent a tow truck about an hour later. We were towed to the nearest airport location i.e Richmond International for an exchange. Several hours later we were on our way back home. Must add that the friendliest and most helpful person through all of this was the tow truck driver (Donny). The Hertz reps in Annapolis and Richmond acted like this happens often and they couldn't care less. Stuff happens is what the rep in Annapolis told me. Lesson learned..check the spare before you rent a car from anywhere.

Last year, a perfect job was done installing body side moldings on a new Mazda CX5. That same car brushed under a tree branch (oops) and scratches resulted on the roof.
