The national office has records that I called to report the car returned, and made notes in the file on the company's accessible computer system. I called the national office because this location does not have a key drop off box and I returned the car after hours with the keys in the car and wanted them to know it was there. The owner of this location chose to pretend he did not see the report nor the car until a week later and charged my card for more than a week's worth of extra days despite the fact that the car had been sitting in his own lot the whole time. I was never informed, not one day, two days or three days after the car rental was due, that he thought I still had it. I had no contact until more than a week later. It's not my fault he didn't bother to look in his lot, or look at the file to see that the car was returned. It was just an excuse he used to get more money from my card. Laziness on his part to not see his car in the lot or call the customer to ask about why it was not returned, to which I would have informed him that it is right there in his lot and the national office had already been informed.

COMPLETELY ABANDONED BY AVIS This should NEVER happen to any traveler. AVIS, willing to strand a customer in a strange city should NEVER be a consideration for rentals. We did call AVIS customer service (Philippines initially then US upon complaining) who advise Avis policy is to take reservations without confirming pick up location availability. I asked for the lowest cost rental but they claimed it was only a few dollars less for economy vehicles than high end... maybe as far as charging the insurance company, but for private rentals it's $60+ more. When my contract ended, my insurance company was curious as to why it ended so soon. Because they were charging so much per day that's why. On top of that they tried charging me the per day rate since my contract was ending, but technically I had until the end of that day, which was a Saturday, but they were closed. So they somehow found a way to charge me an extra day, plus put me right into collections. Sound like hard sellers to me.
