I would give this location zero stars if I could. I paid for a Manager's Special - specifically NOT the EV one, and received an Tesla. Was told I'd have to wait until whenever the next car was returned (up to an hour). It was NOT fully charged when I received it, and added almost 2 hours to a 3 hour drive to have to charge it (each way, so added about 4 hours). I was told I could drop off within 10% of battery that I received it at, I did, the receipt states it. and was still charged $8. It's almost impossible to return at the exact battery %. The steering wheel was ripped and car not fully clean on the inside. Nobody offered to show me how to drive a Tesla. I have done after-hours drop off at this location in the past two months, was told I could do it again, and pulled up at night and the gate was closed and I could not get in. I had to pay $50 to park the car overnight and add returning it to my schedule the next morning. The woman the next day was the meanest customer service representative and had no sympathy and would not do anything about it. Never renting from this location again. read more

Extremely Disappointing Experience - Reservation Meant Nothing. We reserved and prepaid for a rental car at the Hertz Boston Park Plaza / Back Bay location, expecting a simple pickup. When we arrived, we were told there were no cars available. What was most frustrating was the complete lack of help from the staff and the store manager. When we asked to speak with the manager, he simply blamed Hertz corporate for allowing overbooking and said this has been happening since summer 2025. Instead of helping us resolve the situation, he told us we had to call Hertz ourselves to either change the reservation to the airport location or cancel for a refund. While we were on the phone with Hertz customer service, the manager who is in the attached photo, explicitly told the agent he was refusing to honor our reservation because he wanted to hold the remaining cars for the next day's reservations. This was shocking. To make matters worse, while we were still waiting there trying to fix the problem, another couple walked in with a reservation from a different location that had closed early (3 PM), and they were given a car immediately. So apparently: Our prepaid reservation meant nothing. The manager refused to release available vehicles. Cars were selectively given to other customers. This felt like unfair and selective service and an abuse of authority. In the end, we left with no car, wasted over two hours, and would have had to travel to the airport location and pay additional Uber costs just to get a vehicle. A reservation should mean something. If Hertz cannot honor prepaid bookings, customers should be told before arriving. This experience was extremely frustrating and disappointing. I would avoid this location entirely. read more

Charged a full week's rate for a 4-day rental (Friday 6am-Tuesday 4am) -- that alone makes this experience unacceptable. On top of the overbilling, the final price came in $220 over the online quote due to fees that weren't disclosed at booking. I also requested toll coverage, but it was never added to my plan -- meaning I'm now looking at a $10/day surcharge on top of whatever actual toll charges accumulate, with no one available at return to address it. Operationally, this location is severely understaffed. At 6am there was only one person working the counter, making check-in painfully slow. That agent also told a customer flat-out that they were lying when the customer said the upstairs counter was unstaffed and a sign directed people to the lot -- I personally saw that same sign and the same empty counter, so the customer was telling the truth. At return, there was no one available to check in the car, and it took 12 hours to receive a receipt. The self check-in process also gave no clear directions on where to pick up the vehicle afterward. Every touchpoint of this experience -- pricing transparency, staffing, customer service, billing accuracy, and return process -- fell short. I rented for 1 day and was charged for 2, I was told that because I returned the car before they opened that by the time they got to process the return later that day I was charged for 2 days. I returned the gas full and was charged a fuel charge, the contract stated I drove 609 miles, I drove less then 10, it was only for 2 quick store runs. Automated help line was no help. Went onto the Hertz app to book a vehicle at this location today. This location claimed to have vehicles across their entire fleet of models available for rental. Booked the highest-end model with my President's Circle account. Upon arrival, the associate informed us that they did not have any vehicles whatsoever. She also claimed to have called us to let us know, which is unfortunately a total lie (we had not received any phone calls at all today). When asking what our options were, the associate informed us that we needed to rent a different day, or rent from another location: Boston, Logan Airport. When we politely asked to confirm if Boston, Logan Airport has vehicles in their inventory, the associate declined to help, and told us that we needed to call the Boston, Logan location ourselves. Unfortunately, we would not recommend renting from this location, as you may run the risk of showing up without a vehicle available, being lied to about communication, or you may likely experience customer service that will put burden back onto you for their errors. I would also reconsider using Hertz for rentals, and consider using an alternative, or competitor, who may be more customer-focused. read more

My experience last week at this Hertz rental facility was top notch. I had reserved a minivan online a month ahead of time for the purpose of moving boxes, furniture, larger items in the back. Only a short wait at 9a.m. on the Friday before Labor Day weekend, 3 people ahead of us. Lee helped me at the front desk, efficiently and kindly. She answered my questions about dropping off the car after hours and directed me to the garage. The Honda Odyssey was clean and I spent about 10 minutes to familiarize myself with how to lower the backseats to make more storage room. Dennis was cleaning other cars across the garage. He came over to offer assistance. When he saw we were lowering the backseats, he asked if we were using the minivan for passengers or stuff. Then he offered us the Chrysler Voyager that he was almost finished cleaning because the backseats can be completely lowered INTO THE FLOOR. This is the worst experience I've had renting a car. My partner and I set up reservations a week in advance for the car to be picked up at 9am. We arrived 15 minutes prior and waited TWO HOURS for the car. An hour into the wait I went up to the desk to ask what was taking so long and they told me that they have to clean the cars that we were "4th in line". However, people that came in after us WITHOUT reservations were getting their car before us. When we finally got our car, it was COVERED IN DUST. Dirty interior and seats were stained. Save yourself the time and money. Find somewhere else to rent a car. read more

I have used the Hertz Park Plaza location several times. There is normally a 30-45 minute wait at opening and they are short staffed. The ceiling has been leaking for months and trash can is used to collect the water. They also give electric cars and sometimes no options for gas, but very difficult to recharge in Boston. Finally, for "after hours" returns the ground floor is always busy and often so is level 4 which they advise you use. I parked on 5th floor per LAX (garage) and security and now have been calling for hours on the local number to see if they found the car. read more

I initially booked with Hertz Copley Place and unfortunately didn't realize that they closed at 3:30 so when I went to pick it up at 3:35 they were gone. I went to Hertz Park Plaza to see if they could transfer my reservation and they were incredibly efficient and kind. I was in and out of there within a few minutes. Hertz failed to provide the vehicle I needed for my New Mexico vacation. I rented a Subaru Solterra EV at Albuquerque Airport. The next day we drove to Santa Fe where I attempted to find charging stations. The closest charging station to the place I was staying had been torn out 3 weeks before I arrived. After 5 days of trying to make the tedious and time-consuming task of charging the car work, I called Hertz and asked to trade in the car I was driving for a gas-powered car. I drove to the Santa Fe airport and talked to the staff at the Hertz shed (instead of an actual office) at the airport. I was told there were no cars I could exchange my car for. There also was no charging station at the airport. I called the Hertz airport office the following day and there were still no cars. I called Hertz corporate and the only way they could help me was for me to drive to Albuquerque to exchange the car. And there was no guarantee I could do that; it was just the best chance I had at getting a vehicle that I could drive without spending hours a day at a charging station. Hertz needs to rethink their policies and provide customers with better information about the current EV infrastructure (or lack thereof) in the markets they service. If at least half of your destinations, most importantly, the place you are spending your nights, do not have high speed EV chargers, do not rent an EV. 0 out of 5 points to Hertz for not providing information to customers then leaving customers high and dry when they find the infrastructure does not support the vehicle they've rented. I only avoided being stranded on the side of the road through my own ingenuity and persistence. read more

Had a horrible experience at the 30 Park Plaza (Boston) location over the new year. Would rate this experience 0 stars if I could and highly recommend avoiding this place if you can. 1. We prepaid and came to pick up the car. Salesperson tried to get us to add on an EZ Pass for $15/day, saying that rental cars would be charged $10 extra at every toll booth (since when?) and we'd net out even if we chose not to get one. We politely declined and ended up paying a grand total of $1 on tolls across MA, NH, and VT during our trip rather than the $60 we would've paid for the EZ pass. Selling is one thing, but blatant lies are another. 2. We were set to return after hours on Jan 1. We end up there and the parking lot + the overflow lot are full with nobody in sight. We drove around the parking before finding another customer who told us that the last employee told him to park on a different floor before leaving for the night. We ended up returning our car (full tank) at around 6pm on Jan 1. 3. Our initial receipt reflected a 4 day rental (29th Dec - Jan 1, with an after hours return on Jan 1). One week later, they added on an extra day to our final receipt because they only checked our car in at 3 pm on Jan 2 and also charged us for a half full tank (another blatant lie, and completely unacceptable). We luckily were able to get the extra charges reversed through Hertz customer service, but all-in-all, a very negative experience. read more

Please rent elsewhere. I had a horrible experience at this location five years ago and decided to try them again on one of my trips to Boston. They are even worse now. You enter to find several rude emoyees who want the other one to help you. I prepaid for the vehicle several months in advance and in the meantime my credit card renewed. They wouldn't process the rental unless I could provide the expired card. They told me to call the 800 number. After 30 minutes with the 800 number I was told my prepaid reservation was now set. I waited in line again and the person at the counter charged triple the rate and said it has to be done as a new reservation at the day of rate. When I disagreed she told me to call the 809 number. I then asked to speak with the Magee and she went out back for 15 minutes. The manager never came out but the employee came back and said they would honor the charge. Next, they only had one vehicle which was a large suv rather than the small car I reserved. I wasn't comfortable driving such a large vehicle in the narrow streets of Boston and asked if I could drive the vehicle to the airport and change it. The response of course was to call the 800 number which I did and was told that I would have to go to the airport location and it was up to them. Upon returning the vehicle I went inside for a receipt since I don't trust Hertz and noticed it included a $25 refueling fee. I showed the agent that I opted to refuel myself and had the gas receipt from down the street. Of course the response was to call the 800 number. I am taking the time to write all this in hopes that I can spare others tbe pain of using this location. read more

Easy, convenient and nice to have a place right in the city to pick up or drop off a car as opposed to going all the way to the airport. Major minus is that it is impossible to find if you haven't been here before! Do NOT put 30 Park Plaza in your GPS! It will take you on the other side of this huge building with a bunch of one-way streets. Easiest way to find it is to actually put in the GPS for Dollar Rent-A-Car at 3 Columbus Avenue, it is right next-door and then look for the huge legal seafood sign and the yellow awnings of Hertz which is at the corner of Columbus and Eliot. Agent told me there would be no added fee as long as I brought it back over 70% charged - I brought it back at 87% and they hit me with a $43 fee a week later. And then refused to refund the charge. Appears they may be telling there employees to lie to people to get upcharges. Way to go Hertz - this used to be a quality company and now it is not. Since we live in downtown Boston, I do not own a car. Because of this I rent often and found the Hertz loyalty program to be beneficial. In addition, the Hertz at Boston Logan tends to be very dependable and when they fall short a manager is willing to provide helpful support. This is not the case at the Park Plaza Hertz location. I've been hesitant to post a negative review as I understand that staffing is difficult during these times. However, the lack of customer service from the red-headed manager and the employee with lip piercing and the stocking cap have become increasingly worse this last year. If you read other reviews you will see that what I communicate is typical so I'm adding my voice to the masses with the hopes that something will change. (There are other employees who are good at this location but if you enter the location and see either of the red-headed manager or stocking cap wearing employee - your day has most likely taken a turn for the worse). So, here are a handful of experiences I've had with the red headed manager and girl with the stocking cap and lip piercings: 1. Car is not available because I booked it at 8:00 am and they have not been able to get cars ready yet. 2. Car is not available because I booked for 9:00 am and all the cars that were ready have been given to customers. 3. Car is not available because I booked an SUV but when I said I'd take any car, they claim that is now how it works at this location. 4. The fuel efficient car I booked is not ready but I could take a gas guzzling Ford Explorer instead - I did. 5. I had to wait 45 minutes for red headed manager to fix a seat belt buckle that was stuck under the seat. I've made a habit of checking this because my child uses a car seat. I found it concerning that a car would be rented without functional seat belts. 6. Car is not available because of the holiday weekend. My only option was to be placed on the wait list with no estimation of time as the cars were being transported from Chelmsford (32.5 miles away). If you express frustration in any of the experiences you are given a phone number that does not go to a human or a voicemail system. If you are going on a three week road trip, you are not able to request a car with a navigation system as the red headed manager claims that is not something they guarantee or will switch your car to accommodate. A few other notes: While waiting for my car, I have explained the toll policy to people as the woman with the stocking cap confused them. There isn't enough seating for the people waiting for their cars. Since this is a typical experience, you'd think they'd at least get some comfy chairs or a coffee maker. This is standard practice for most car service facilities. If you need to cancel a reservation because of the wait time, the red headed manager claims she can not print a confirmation, but will offer to write something on a post-it note and write her initials. Feel free to book your car here, just know what you are getting yourself into when you do. If you aren't able to get your car in a timely manner, no accomodations will be made but rather you will be told that it is somehow your fault because of the way you booked your rental. read more

This was the worst rental car drop off ever. First, it was impossible to figure out where the location was. Google Maps took me to an incorrect garage. You have to go on Hertz website to figure out the correct garage. I pulled into the garage and there was no one. Finally, 2 people (male and female) appeared and barely gave me a glance. I told them I was dropping off a car and was told to go into office. There were no signs to office and when I asked where the office was, the guy just pointed and said, "over there." Geez, thanks for the over there. The person who was in the office, was helping another customer with a rental. I couldn't understand why one of the two others couldn't help me since they were not doing anything. After 10-15 min, the female appears and asked if I dropped off a car. Um, hello? you saw me in the garage. She asked for my mileage and I told her 2848, I drove 19 miles. She asked if I want a hard copy or email. I opted for email. HUGE mistake! I didn't check the receipt until the next day. I have never had an issue with Hertz. The receipt showed 3000 miles. Instead of 19 miles, 171 miles were driven. My rental was limited miles. Anything over 100 miles were an additional charge. It was a small addition to my charge, but out of principle, it was wrong. You scam enough customers, it can add a significant amount to the bottom line. And I dropped off the car at 4:30pm, she also changed my drop off to 5 pm. Luckily, I only had the car for the day, but if you drop off your car close to your contract drop off time, you may risk an over-charge. Beware if you drop off a car at this location, get a hard copy and carefully, check the information. On a side note, if you drive in from Logan Airport, the tunnel has a toll. I didn't see a toll booth so I missed the toll. You will get charged a $5.95 convenience fee on top of toll. Bring your own transponder! read more

Ordered a car weeks ahead to be picked up at 9:30am. Checked in right at 9:30, and was still waiting at 10. When I asked, they said they were waiting for the car to be "brought in." What? Why wasn't it there, given it had been reserved. Kept waiting. In the meantime, people were getting cars. I asked for one already there, which was an SUV. She said I could have one right away for a $20/day additional. I took it because I had to go. Total upsell for everything else too. Seemed like a game and I really didn't appreciate being played. They also don't answer their phone, ever. Will not patronize Hertz again. read more

This was the worst car rental experience of my life. I was given a vehicle that was making noises and shaking as I got a few blocks away. When I went home to call customer service to see what I was supposed to do from here, I spent over an hour calling every number I could find for this Hertz location and for Hertz corporate lines. Every number led to the same useless automated messages. I tried every option INCLUDING THE EMERGENCY ROADSIDE LINE and was never connected to a human being. I finally just brought it back and the manager was at least nice enough to swap out the vehicle. I was also told by the counterperson at initial pickup the site was 24/7 drop off. I had a reservation to drop it off after 11pm. When I arrived to return the vehicle, the garage was closed and I spent another hour looking for street parking, then had to wake up at 6 am to come all the way back to return it at the 7 am open for fear of being additionally charged. The garage attendant was incredibly rude to me when I did not know where he wanted me to leave the vehicle; there were no obvious spots and he would not speak to me, he just rolled his eyes at me, ignored me and then finally pointed to double park in a certain space. Hertz is incredibly dishonest with their pricing and communication of pricing. Among many examples, I'll choose one. They gave me a toll card pass for the road tolls and let me know that some cities were electronic-only now. They then proceeded, little did I know, to charge me an extra 6 dollars convenience fee *for every single toll* I paid using their toll pass. How is that legal to charge twice the amount of a toll, for the "convenience" (in Boston, the obligation as cash is no longer accepted) of using their pass? If they had informed me of this fee ahead of time, I would have never used hertz in the first place. I will never rent with them again. So sad that major, international companies, can get away with this. read more

I only give 1 star Hertz Rental car at Logan airport because the guy who handled our return could not have been nicer. This was the worse customer service I have ever had to rent through Hertz. I ordered on line via a travel site I use and they partner with hertz. There was a problem with checking in online, called hertz and was on hold for over 1/2 hour to get a person who could not help me at all. She could not add my hertz membership ID to my order, could not even bring up my account because she could not write down the right confirmation number (repeated it 3 times) . She basically said I needed to go to the desk at the airport. The customer service at the airport was even worse, joking around behind the counter, snippy, not answering questions, not friendly. Sent us to go get the car at the desk in the garage even though I was a gold member. Asked the person in the office, told to go to 5 star row and pick a car. My reservation was for an SUV. There were no SUVs to pick. We ended up with a Toyota Corolla. As we were pulling out in rolls a few SUVs brought in and everyone was running to get them. We left in our little car. I will never use hertz again, there has to be a company with better customer service. read more

On-line booking was easy... too easy. Nowhere on the booking page or in the emails they sent does it say "must have credit card present at time of check-in." So if you are on a business trip and used a company card, you're probably screwed. They tell you it's easy to fix, call a number to ask for a refund to the card and have them place another card on file instead.... Only it's NOT that easy. When you call the number, they say they need to add an extra $500 hold on the new card AND run a credit check!!! Sorry but the $350 was already going to strain the trip, there's NO WAY I'm letting them charge damn near $1,000 to my card AND mess up my credit by running a check. All for something that was already paid for. The people at the counter are no help and the people on the phone were rude. This is the first and last time I will be renting a car from Hertz. I will also make sure my family and friends don't choose Hertz. They nickel and dime customers. When I went to pick up my reserved rental car, the clerk tried to make me upgrade. I understand that it's probably her boss encouraging her to do this so they can make more money. I politely declined. The clerk then asked me if I wanted to opt for the pre-pay fuel charge, and convinced me that it's in my best interest to get it since I won't have to go to the pump and refuel before I return the car. Tired and jet lagged from my flight, I agreed and opted for it. What the clerk didn't tell me was, the pre-fuel option was a one-time charge of over $40. I didn't know about until I left in the rental car. She also didn't tell me no matter how much gas I used, the charge would be the same. So even if I used 1/4 of the tank, they will still charge me for the $40+ pre-fuel charge. This is not fair and is misleading. To add cherry on top, they charge me almost double the cost of the toll charge, which they call convenience fee. There was no way around this since Boston toll readers are plate-based now so I couldn't have paid cash or credit when crossing the toll area. I notified their corporate offices and as of today, no answer. Go figure. read more
