11 Jan: Terrible and unsure whether systems are broken or there is purposeful deceit. 1. Rented car on 22 Dec (rental time is listed as 10:20AM although vehicle not available until 11:00AM). I was confident that I had prepaid but Hertz office said that I had not and I ended up processing a CC transaction (again). While waiting for the car to be prepared, I found the original AMEX transaction AND the booking confirmation email from Hertz stating that it was paid in full. I went back into the office while awaiting the car and I showed him both my AMEX transaction and the Hertz email and asked for a refund. He said that, as his system didn't show the payment, he could not do a refund and I needed to call Hertz HQ. I did and they determined that I has in fact paid twice but they couldn't do a refund and I would need to claim it back from my CC company. It seems to be an odd way to recoup that second payment. I contacted my CC company who told me that they could not proceed with a dispute while the charge was pending. A week later, the pending stopped and the transaction was not processed. It worked out but a) why did the Haarlem Ave office not know that I had prepaid; b) why couldn't he refund the charge when I proved I had paid; c) why did Hertz not refund the charge and expect me to contact my CC company? 2. At around 3:50pm on the very same day, I could not restart the car. Did quite a bit of trouble-shooting for some time but it did not help. I eventually called Hertz roadside assistance. They suggested some things which also didn't work. They put it down to a faulty wire and would need to tow the car. They offered for me to go to the nearest airport and pick up a replacement vehicle or to cancel the contract for a full refund. I opted for the latter. Car picked up at 5:25pm and I received an SMS confirming the car was picked up (and a second SMS later on to confirm that it had arrived in Haarlem Ave). I waited for the refund but called Hertz a week later and asked about it. The response I received online chat was that the refund couldn't be processed until the rental is concluded (was supposed to have been on 6 Jan). Despite my saying that the rental was concluded, I couldn't seem to get any further. Luckily, I kept a copy of the chat. In the meantime, I lodged a request on the Customer Service online on Sun 27 10:57pm. Aside from receiving a Thank you so much for contacting us"" autoreply, Customer Service has not yet responded to that online request (11 Jan)! On 5 Jan, given the long wait for a refund, I lodged claim with the New York Division of Consumer Protection. Alarm bells on 5 Jan when I received an automated email saying that they're looking forward to the return of the car the following day. This time I called the Hertz Roadside assist and quoted the case number. Eventually confirmed that the car had been picked up on 22 Dec (same day as start of rental) but that the office had not scanned the car back in and had not processed a close rental form had not been completed. She put me through to Hertz customer service. After quoting case numbers, etc. she was most apologetic as she could see that the refund should have been processed. She would escalate it and I should receive a refund in 2-24 hours. NO refund. On 7 Jan, an email from Hertz billing asking for a copy of the rental agreement. Not sure I had it any more as on 22 Dec I had understood that the rental had been cancelled but I supplied the confirmation number and the relevant case numbers. Not heard back from them by 11 Jan nor any refund! Is this all poor systems or purposeful? Hard to tell. ********************* 14 Jan: I am updating my review to note two updates: 1. I emailed Hertz CEO last night detailing some further concerns in the "End of rental" docs sent to me yesterday. I will not detail these here to avoid prejudicing any internal or Police investigation. 2. Customer Support emailed me 16 hours ago to state that they ARE providing me with a full refund within 3-7 days. That will mostly bring to a close many of my concerns. read more

This location never has available cars. Yet, the site allows people to schedule a car. Unless, you are willing to upgrade to a larger vehicle or drive electric ( which is hardly charged fully) you would have to wait for someone else return their rental. read more

STAY AWAY!!! If you'd like to wait in line for over two hours for a car, not get the car you paid for and get treated like an animal, come to this place. Employees are on their phones on personal calls (on speaker phone). There is no waiting area except outdoors as if you're waiting to go into a nightclub. Then, when you return, they hit you with fees that, since they're short staffed, do not take the time to tell you about. Luckily, I reported all their lack of professionalism to my credit card company and they did not get paid for the extra $400 they wanted to rob me of and they got hit with a fee as well. For today, June 2, 2023, they get a one star. I am not complaining about the long line because there should be a long line at rental car places. I am complaining about the type of car that was given to me when I brought it to the guys attention how the front of the car and the paint job, looked burnt and didn't match, he says that they are allowed to rent cars like that. They had a few cars of the same size in the fleet and when I asked about that he says all the cars for someone else. Four more people pulled out of this location with the same size, which was a Toyota Corolla, which in my Opinion, One of which could've been assigned to me. I've rented here a few times already and at this point ive become aware that the manager special will always be a pick up truck. I asked if there was anything else and of course I was told no. Luckily I was able to cancel my reservation with no penalty but when I went back online to see what was available there were many options unfortunately it was going to be expensive due to the fact that it is the same day reservation. I knew I was going to be driving on Toll Roads, so I requested to add Plate Pass to my rental. The sign in the store said it was about $10. However, they charged me $55 for Plate Pass. They did not give me a copy of the itemized receipt until after I had signed/paid. Called Hertz regarding the billing discrepancy and they refused to change it since they "already had my signature". The guy that took the handled the car reservation was great and professional, even gave me an SUV for the price of a sedan, everything was going great, even when I returned the car the guy that handled that transaction was even nicer and very polite. But 2 weeks later I noticed they charge me $65 extra for tolls that I never when thru, I am trying to fight it but have no proof or receipts for that one day. worse experience ever!! never felt so disrespected!! 1- i was lied to on the phone about a premium car being a cadillac when i booked my reservation online & went in the clerk was trying to force me into an impala... 2- i was turning in a malibu i drove for 2 weeks & i was charged over $1400 on my credit card for it which was prolonging my process to get into the impala yet the rude clerk kept saying it was a hold but i was told the hold is only $200!!! 3- every staff member there was rude, annoyed with my issue & unhelpful! walking away from me !! i had to help myself with calling billing to resolve my issue with my credit card & they were closing i had 30 minutes to try & resolve everything myself!! 4- then a man who claimed he was a manager came in joking and laughing with the staff about the impala they were tryna push me in & stating it could not be rented once i announced that the lady clerk was putting me in that car! apparently it reeked up marijuana meanwhile i had my kids still sitting in the malibu waiting for the new car (1 being 7 months old) & they was tryna kick my kids out the car so they can do an oil change!! still the clerk was pushing me in to the impala lying saying it was fine she sent it to get a car wash! they all laughed and openly made fun of my situation & didnt show any care nor concern for all the trouble i was having! 5- there suggestions were to take the impala or stay with the malibu that needed service meanwhile i was now on a premium pricing!! then they offered me the cadillac i thought i would get originally as if it was to help me for my troubles but wanted to charge me $175 a day on top of my premium pricing!!! + $36 a day for insurance i was there for over 2hrs frustrated unhappy being made fun of, lied to, & now there closed so they locked everything up with us inside &then i thought the woman manager was rectifying everything apologizing for the staff by just placing me in the cadillac & honoring my premium reservation but she tricked us & booked everything didnt explain, didnt pre-trip the car with me. just charged my card shoved me the receipt and the key and said go ahead everything is across the street. my husband goes out walking to the red cadillac but nope it didnt open instead the black malibu was waiting for us! read more

Booked my car rental online for an 8 am pick up since that is when they open. Got here at 810 and didn't leave with my vehicle until 9 am smh minus some stars here. I get in the car and it only has 1/8 of gas in the tank wtf minus a star. Now I have to be somewhere in the city by 11 am and I have to pick up my family plus get gas?!?!? Why do they make people pay 9.99 if you return the car with no gas but don't put gas in the car?!?! Things that make you go hmmmm. Driving to pick up my family and now the car has a funny noise coming from the front by the tires. I pick up my parents and start driving to the city when my mother says she doesn't feel safe being in a car that sounds like the tire is going to come off. So I go back to the car rental location and let them know that I have some concerns about the car. A mechanic gets in the car and drives around with me. He days there's a problem with the brakes and suspension. Am I supposed to drive a car with brake problems smh. So now they tell me they are getting me a car from Yonkers then they come back 10 mins later and say they have a car ready but it's a full size. Then they said they will give me a discount for the rental when I return the car. Definitely wasn't satisfied with the company and all the back and forth, especially since I was an hour late to my event. I received a car with no gas and bad brakes then only give me $25 off. I put more money than that in the car with no gas before I returned it. read more

First car I rented, I left a $500 coat in the backseat, realized it one hour after returning the car, went back to the shop, and they completely disavowed all knowledge of the coat. This time around, I've been trying to contact them for hours today, continued to get a run around, my insurance company couldn't reach them all week and neither of us received return calls, constantly put on hold and no one able to help. I was treated well enough in person, staff was friendly and mostly cooperative. Hertz corporate not one lick of help, worse run around. Staff is extremely unprofessional, sit there on the computer typing away and not explaining anything whatsoever, was annoyed when I asked questions, did not explain any policies or anything they were including in my rental. My card was charged midway through my rental without any notification or explanation on top of already having my deposit. When I went to drop off the car, again, unprofessional service. When I asked who looked like the manager questions, they were met with an annoyed response and when I asked for a breakdown of what I was being charged she typed in estimates on a calculator, never received a receipt for my payment at all. After purchasing a new car from Bronx Honda in September 2016, I needed to take my car in for slight repairs which took longer than expected. Bronx Honda contacted Hertz on Stillwell Avenue in the Bronx, N.Y. to arrange for a rental car for me to use until my car was fixed and someone from Hertz came to the showroom to pick me up. I rented the car and was told that Bronx Honda would be responsible for the car rental fee and I was responsible for the insurance. The total came up to $245 with $45 of that money in insurance fees. I paid my portion and moved on thinking everything was fine. I received a letter in the mail from Hertz this month stating that they did not receive the money from Honda and were asking me to pay. I reached out to Bronx Honda and was told that the invoice sent to them was wrong and listed Honda of New Rochelle as the responsible party. In the meantime Hertz charged my account for the $200 on 1/30/17. I called Hertz to explain that there had been a error on the invoice and that I needed a new invoice to be sent to Bronx Honda. I eventually got a manager from both companies on the phone to resolve the issue on Tuesday 1/31/17. I called back on 2/3/17 to find out what was going on and I was informed that Bronx Honda had not received the new invoice. When I called Hertz several times to rectify the situation and request the corrected invoice to be sent to Bronx Honda so that I can be reimbursed I was told that they not going to correct the invoice because of a issue with Bronx Honda and that they "got there money and they don't care". I told them that I just want Bronx Honda to know that I paid on their behalf and have the invoice reflect that and the agent refused and hung up on me. I have never been treated so terribly by any corporation and personally feel like its fraudulent to refuse to fix a invoice to the correct responsible party even though the company acknowledged it was incorrect. Multiple calls have been made to Hertz 1800 # with no luck. They are a bunch of crooks!!!! I have never been treated so poorly in my life. I was hung up on after I confronted them about not wanting to correct there mistake and when I called back they ignored my calls. Do not rent from here ever. Nice people but horrible service. They take your reservation but your car is never there and ready. I show up for them to tell me they have no cars and waiting for returns. So I am left high and dry. Pretty much screwed on a Saturday with no options to get to my event. The staff says their fleet distribution team does this to them all the time. They say the money is made at the airports and Manhattan so they send the cars there. So don't be fooled seeing the Hertz brand thinking you will get the same service. And for those thinking hey I am presidents circle your status means nothing. I have presidents circle status and that means squat. I even have a company CDP that must be in their top 3 accounts globally and that did me no good. They focus on insurance rentals with the shop so I guess they get priority. I completely concur with the other reviewers who gave this establishment a poor rating. As others have mentioned, the location of this Hertz is horrible. Moreover, the employees there are absolutely unprofessional and useless. I was picked up at Honda of New Rochelle by an interesting driver who insisted on foisting his political views (Trump supporter) onto me. After I got to hear the joys of Trump and how he's going to pass a tax plan that's going to "let us make some real money," I got out the car and set my eyes upon on what has to be the most ill-placed rent-a-car locations in the middle of nowhere. I then walked into an empty office. And I don't mean nobody on line empty, I mean NOBODY there empty. No customers, no employees or even a loiterer. Nobody. So as I waited ten minutes for somebody to show up, an employee finally did. Except he said nothing to me. Not "hello," not "somebody will be with you soon," or a "how can I help you?" He just looked at me, walked behind the counter, grabbed some keys and left. So I waited a few more minutes and then finally someone showed up. I don't recall the lady's name. And I really don't think I'm remiss for nor remembering it, being that she was no help to me. I do remember that she gave me two choices for a rental: a Kia Forte or a Nissan Sentra. Now mind you I'm 6'5" and wouldn't even ride in a friend's compact car. Because: 1) We couldn't be friends and 2) I simply cannot fit comfortably as a passenger, let alone drive in a compact. So I asked her for a larger car. She dryly informed that she only had compact cars. Only had compacts?!?! What kind of rent-a-car location only has one type of car? This one, is the answer! Not only does the location suck, but so do their employees and selection. Which essentially makes it as useful as a third butt cheek. I opted for the Kia Forte, got in, couldn't move my leg without it touching the steering wheel, got out, gave it back and asked for a ride home. Not surprisingly, I was told I couldn't be driven home. Hey, at least it was a wonderful day for a four mile walk. Nothing to see here folks, don't waste your time. read more

0 stars! I was referred to Hertz after a car accident. The gentlemen behind the counter were rude and making fun of customers. A customer called to complain about the time they were taking and the hertz representative hung up and said "I wish that motherfucker would talk in my face like that". Couldn't believe he spoke like that in front of customers. After 2 weeks of having the rental, I was charged $1,329. I called them and they said my insurance never gave them a reference number to charge them (even though I used this reference number to get the car). My insurance straightened out the charges and I was refunded the full amount in 5-7 business days. I returned my car a week ago, spoke to a woman rep before I returned the car and asked how much do I owe for the rental and she assured me there will be no other charges. 7 days later I was charged another $1,329. They charged my car without an approval. I asked for a receipt which they couldn't locate. They claimed I added on insurance which I have witness to attest at the fact I refused for these charges and they must to be removed. Well they never did and without authorization or a recipe for the expense has yet to be provided. I will never recommend anyone to their company and most definitely this location. read more
