Don't rent the van. Bad business practices. I rented a Hertz van through this location on Priceline 3 weeks before the pick up date. When I arrived at the pick up time of noon the told me it wouldn't be here until 4 hours later. They then did this to at least 3 other people. They told me they had called to let me know this would happened but I had no missed calls or voice mails. After waiting for 5 hours!!!! They told me I could have the van I prepaid for because I used a debit card instead of a credit card. So my only option was to upgrade to a more expensive car which for some reason I am allowed to use debit on? They force people to either cancel there plans or pay extra. It's bad business practices and is definitely a scam. I watch 2 of the 3 other people I saw in this situation pay an extra hundred or more to get a car. read more

I had a bad experience picking up the vehicle. When I picked it up at the location on Belmont, they said they had to clean it first so I waited. But turns out they did not clean the car and it smelled like a cigar lounge. The smell was so bad and strong that my patient could not stand riding in the vehicle to their appointments. So, I called back to have them switch out the vehicle they said they didn't have cars? To call other locations they would Help me out.... I decided to call the location on Evanston And they also didn't have vehicles, which I find it strange .. but anyhow , Kayree ( i Hope I'm spelling his name correct) said to bring it in he would clean it for me and boy he sure did! I reserved a car from this hertz for a weekend trip to Wisconsin. This was closest to my house and decently price. The night before I was to pick up the car (right as they opened at 7:30 am), I read all of these horrible reviews and I was super nervous. I showed up at the location 5 mins before opening and was really nervous because it didn't seem like anyone was inside to open. But right at 7:30, someone opened the door. My rental was processed and I was on my way a little after 8 because they had to finish cleaning the car. Returning the car was a breeze, I had a receipt emailed in 30 mins. NOTE: As other reviews have mentioned, this location is dirty as can be. I don't think anything has been cleaned in years. While sitting down waiting for my car to come around, I saw a bunch of trash underneath the front counter covered in dust. The walls are scuffed all over the place and in general it just has a vibe of being not taken care of. Frankly, I don't care as long as I get my car. Seems like most problems are because this location mostly deals with insurance rentals. This is 4 stars because I expected soooo much less based on the reviews. But it's convenient, I didn't have any issues as a casual rental, and my car was great. read more

Finally got my money back. I even fought through the credit card company. I had to go through Twitter and make noise to make this happen. 2 pieces of Hertz policy worth knowing: if you have a pre-paid reservation you have 2 hours to pick up your car (off airport location). In my case, I was an hour after my reservation time. If Hertz doesn't have your pre-paid car, the next size up is offered at no additional charge. They charged me $20/day for a week. Worst Hertz I have ever been to. Seriously. This doesn't live up the Hertz standard. Its dirty, its slow, and the people are not particularly friendly. I observed while waiting for my rental car one of the employees being quite rude to a customer because the customer was frustrated with the wait time (the employees kept saying that their computers wee really slow). That doesn't give you the right to mouth off to your customers. My rental took 30 mins. Most of that time was waiting for the computer as well. I never leave reviews especially bad ones but omfg. i got into an accident and the persons insurance rented me a car here. had to sit in the store for over a hour for someone to bring me a another credit card because they refused to take my card. NO WHERE on their website, conformation, anything said they don't take my specific bank/who they do/don't take (my card has the visa logo since that's the only thing they state on their website lol.) I've rented a car with this bank before 1000 times and have never had an issue. the employees were also extremely unhelpful. homeboy acted like i was inconveniencing him and just kept shrugging his shoulders like it's my fault hertz mentions this anywhere. 0/10 recommend. would rather walk everywhere. lol. read more

They told me I had to call the customer service line (they couldn't do it in the store...?) so I was on hold for about 30 min until I could talk to a rep. Fast & Friendly Needed to rent a car for a few weeks. Everyone there was very friendly and helpful. When I went there to pick up the car they helped me right away and I was able to choose which car I wanted. Drop off was a breeze. An employee came out to greet me and asked if I was dropping off. Gave him the keys went back in gave the other gentleman my name and a matter of 5 minutes we were done. Asked if they had change so that I could take a bus to get my to my car and they said they would get me a Lyft at no charge to me. How GREAT was that. I can't thank them enough! read more

If I could give this place no stars I would. Had a rental car booked and after paying $70 for an Uber from the airport to this place pretending to be a business, they said they didn't have the car I reserved. Which is fine to a certain extent but then they said they only had one vehicle for rent. Even though they didn't have my car I reserved or any other options they then wanted to charge me an additional $50 per day to rent that last car they had. I asked the front desk if there was any recourse, they said no, I asked if they could transfer my request to a different hertz, they said no. I asked if they would reimburse me for the Uber I took to their place where they knew they didn't have any cars but still took my money and they said no. Asked for a refund and since it was prepaid through a third party they said no. I know this place already had two stars and if I would have checked before I could have somewhat known what I was getting into. I reserved a rental car & set up pick up for the next day from the mechanic shop near by where I was dropping my car off. I confirmed a time of 4:30 for pick up from Hertz. I ended up walking to Hertz an hour & 45 minutes later. I called three times while waiting & was told my pick up car was on the way each time. What a joke! I had a confirmation and got a ride there to pick up my car. The lady tells me that she doesn't have a car and isn't sure when she'll have one. She couldn't have cared less. She actually blamed me for making a reservation short notice - like it's my fault I got a confirmation??? When I said they could have called, she just rolled her eyes at her colleague. What a concept....In her monotone "I don't care at all" voice, she rattled down the customer service number, as she wouldn't even bother to help me cancel the reservation for a refund. There were apparently 4 other people waiting for cars - all of them having confirmations, so she told me I could wait till 4-5 cars come back from the airport "sometime". So to sum it up: Hertz website sucks and doesn't consider inventory at any given location, though I get it that that is annoying for the people who work at those locations, the customer service at the Belmont pick-up is particularly bad and the staff is just plain rude. Yes, I was annoyed...I had a business event I needed the car for and my own car broke down, so I was in a pickle. A slightly friendlier and caring attitude would have made a difference as I do see the dilemma for the staff, but you don't have to be so crappy about it and blame the customer for showing up, confirmation in hand, to pick up a car they paid for in full! read more

Well, Hertz is at it again - this is my second review and complaint about the same rental experience - after charging my credit card repeatedly with various bogus charges, I finally had to cancel my card and get a new one. Then the other day, I see a new $30 charge from Hertz on my REPLACEMENT CARD!!! I called my bank to contest this charge and put a stop payment against Hertz - I was told that rental places can even still continue to charge a cancelled card because of pre-authorization - I never signed the contract, the rude attendant from the original rental forgot to have me sign it . This charge is for a ticket that I got while driving the rental - I have contested the ticket as it is not valid. They are charging me $30 because they mailed me the ticket!!! seriously? $30 to mail a ticket to me that was mailed late on top of it? The letter also stated that if i were to contest the ticket, I wouldn't be charged. I had emailed Hertz with all of this information and copies of the letter contesting the ticket. I called the company that they hired to send out tickets and I was told they are not Hertz, they just send the tickets out - But their email is a Hertz email and when we were hanging up, the man said "thank you for using Hertz" Beware - they will rip you off repeatedly and then keep charging your card without your permission, even if you cancel your card and send them documentation. I had car problems this morning and I went to ENTERPRISE rentals - they were kind and courteous - I will NEVER use HERTZ again and I'd advise anyone not to!!!! read more

This place is a fraud. I've never received such a bad customer service. Never go to this location. I will not only come here, but will never use Hertz again. This Hertz did not have the car I reserved 5 months ago. The staff offered me a lower class car and told me that it was the same as the one I had reserved. I reserved a class 'B' compact sedan, not a class 'A' economy. They kept pushing me to get the smaller class 'A' car telling me that it was exactly the same as class 'B'. No, they are not the same. Hertz does not charge the same rate for the different class of cars. Then the staff told me to go switch it up with the correct car myself at a different location, without any written or verbal proof that another location had the small sedan... am I working for them? Also, no one offered to reimburse the difference in price for the lower class car that they made me ride off with. They told me that I needed to call their "Billing Department", and they themselves could not call or help me with anything. Either they are totally clueless and are not trained to understand the difference between the different class of cars they offer, or they are liars and stealing my money. And I guess you get what you pay for. I had a reservation and still had to wait for almost an hour to get checked in. They do not follow corporate policy. I reserved a car for wife via 800 # and even being a Gold member she was not allowed to retrieve the car without me. I clarified by phone that it was possible for her and I had done it numerous times before also, but not here. They must create there own rules here. I was called from that rental office by my wife who was upset since they would not release the car reserved for her, then they were extremely rude to me also. They did not trust me even after I sent phone of my drivers license. My cell phone is on record and they could not put two and two together to verify that was me either. They forced my wife to make a separate new on the spot reservation in her name and cancel mine. Stay away! I vote for closing the place down also. This is my first Yelp write up. I reserved a rental for pick up at this location over the summer. I have always gotten my rentals from here. I don't understand why they get bad reviews. I have never had a bad experience except maybe that the car wasn't cleaned at times. I just rented a mid-size SUV for a month, hadn't rented one since October 2019. Of course you never know what you're going to get until the day before or the day of. I happen to call a week before and mentioned I was hoping for a RAV4. I was told there is no guarantee and that it would most likely be this other SUV. I get there and was greeted by Naomi and Justin who are super nice. Right away Naomi said we got you your RAV4. I was so excited. Justin proceeded to show me stuff about the car and answered all my questions. I later went back with more questions and Naomi was showing me some more stuff. They were both wonderful. Took the car back and both front desk ladies were very nice. I guess if there was a negative, it's that the renting of a Hertz car is a lot more expensive then it use to be and I book 8 or 9 months in advance. Also at the time of booking, I use to get discounts added and this would make the rental price even more reasonable. I was told they don't have that anymore when I called. Due to an unfortunate auto accident which resulted in my car needing to be in the shop for repair for over a week, my insurance company (State Farm) set up a reservation for Hertz at this location. When we arrived, the customer service representative, Mitchell, was walking to the door himself. You would've thought that as he noticed me walking to the door, that he would've said hello to an approaching customer - he did not. As I was raised with manners, I gave him salutations. He did not look at me, rather mumbled "hi" while he walked in. Indication #1 this was not going to go well. Myself and 2 other customers stood in line for roughly 15 minutes while Mitchell proceeded to take phone calls with zero acknowledgment to the individuals standing in front of him. Another employee walked in and took the first customer in line, while Mitchell then proceeded to help gentleman in front of me. It was 10:00am, the gentleman had made a reservation at 8:00am. Mitchell berated the old man for not calling ahead of time to ensure a car was available and then asked him to have a seat. Indication #2 that it was going to go down hill. When I got up there, Mitchell stated "How can I help you sir?" - I guess my sundress was not an indication that I was a female. He then proceeded to address my husband directly who was standing by the door rather than addressing me directly ! When my husband advised he was with me, he then gave me his semi-attention. After explaining that State Farm made a reservation and that they sent me there, he looked me up in the computer and then started shaking his head. "This was JUST made" and advising me what I should've done before coming up there - just like the poor old man in front of me. I promptly responded that State Farm advised the reservation was made and to come in, asked if I was in a rental car facility with cars (as he acted like I was not!), and asked if he could not assist me, was there another Hertz location that could accommodate my request. He seemed to have straightened up his snotty and condescending attitude after that and told me a vehicle would be ready at 12:30pm. The whole experience was poor, unprofessional, unnecessary and made me extremely hesitant to do any business with this facility, even if insurance was paying for it. You can then imagine my horror when logging on to Yelp to check out other customers experience. Note to Yelp Friends: If you have State Farm, they also utilize Enterprise Rental Car. Well - I see from the other 1-2 star ratings I am not the only one who has had issues with this location! Staff: RUDE, lying people from the counter workers to the manager Henry. If you have issues with these people don't bother with trying to contact the manager Henry he is even worse than the staff.They tell you they will pick you up at your repair shop, then not bother to do so. They will manufacture false charges then lie that they informed you in advance. Then keep coming up with different amounts. THEN lie that you were given over a week notice regarding these charges.....I could go on. Well we called at 4:45 and they said we couldn't pick up anyone after 5 because by the time they drive to us it will be 5.Explained this at a rapid pace like they get paid on commission and when we finally received the car (mind you this was 2016 Toyota camry) it was dirty the front glass looked like someone was smoking in it ,but yet made us agree we couldn't smoke inside.
