Not only did she not provide me with the correct information when asked about keeping a rental for an additional day, she all but called me a liar when discussing what time I contacted their office in regards to the request for keeping the car an additional day. I had to pull out my phone and prove to her that I had in fact called by the appropriate time. Ultimately, she not only charged the $10 reservation change fee (this charge is appropriate)but she also charged me almost DOUBLE the rate I paid last week. I used this Hertz office at airpark in Chico,CA in March 2019 and had a very good experience. This past week we needed a rental car I rented it online and when I went to pick up the car per my online reservation I was turned away as they no longer accept debit card payments. They said I was warned before I paid online. I noticed no such warning and it didn't stop them from charging my card and collecting payment. So my plans were ruined at the last minute. They gave me an 800 number to call that said I would have to wait 7 to 10 days to get my money back. No one apologized. I will never use Hertz again and I won't reccommend them. read more

I reserved a vehicle 30 days in advance. I called again 1 week before I needed the vehicle. I get to the desk the vehicle they want to give me has a "hard hold". They attempt a second vehicle with the same result. The only vehicle they have left is a large SUV. They did give it to me at a reduced rate due to no vehicle available. 2 days later I get a call they want to exchange it because they have a reservation for it. I just put 15 gallons of fuel in it because I had a trip planned for Saturday. They promised to bring me a car with a full tank. Not only did they not fill the tank I had to fight for a refund on the fuel I put in the vehicle. The vehicle they brought me was a Echo Sport. Huge difference in tank size. I do them a favor by letting them take the vehicle because of their issue and this is how you get rewarded. I do not recommend this business. read more

Beware customers. Hertz Rent a Car Airpark Chico will rob you blind. I needed a car rental for 30 days. The female helping me behind the counter asked me if I wanted the "optional insurance coverage" which covered any damage to the vehicle. When I asked her how much her reply was simply $25. I voiced out loud how cheap that was but she did not at that time make it clear that it was $25 a day, which would have been the professional thing to do. Needless to say I was duped and bought the insurance and upon return on the vehicle I was informed I owed them $750. The employee assured me she had mentioned it was $25 a day However, if she had mentioned it I would have given it a second thought, (as most people would) and I know I would have not bought the insurance as it was optional. I feel this is clearly predatory, money hungry, deceitful business practice and the public needs to be made aware. Be smarter than I was, stay clear of Hertz, Rent A Car Airpark. After my horrendous experience where upon returning a car the Branch Manager refused to provide drop off service and I was told to walk home (4 miles away and there are no sidewalks). As a President's 5 Star Gold member, I called the Gold Member hotline. I was told by the Gold Member agent that the regional manager for the area would call me. Beware!! Reservations don't really mean they are reserving you anything. I had a Pre-Paid reservation over a month in advance but when I went to pick up my car I was told not only where there no cars available, they had made over 50 reservations for cars when they knew full well they had none. All they would do was offer me a refund of my money (which takes 5-7 days to process). This was in no way the result I wanted. I didn't want my money back, I wanted the car I had already paid to reserve. Since it was a holiday weekend cars were sold out at all other rental companies. Do not use this company. It's a nightmare and their customer service is terrible!!! **Update: To top it all off, I was charged $100 for "cancelling" my pre-paid reservation. "Cancelling" apparently meaning being told there were no cars at the Chico location so calling the corporate office and having them change my reservation to a location two hours away that did have cars. I have a rental contract to pick up my car today at this Chico location noon. I have been calling since 10:30am.. NO ANSWER...I can't tell you how many calls made... I show up to get my car at 11:30 by taxi, NO ONE AT COUNTER. I kept calling, no one answers but you can hear the phone ringing at the desk. NO sign of anyone. I walked around outside the location, NO ONE THERE. I called customer service a total of 3 times!! By 12:30 I missed my meeting, had to take a taxi back to where I am staying. STILL NO ONE AT LOCATION , NO CAR! This is the worst service from Hertz I have ever experienced!! I was TOTALLY STRANDED!! Scam from the start. I called more than two weeks ahead to reserve an economy car for 24 hours while my car was in the shop. I spoke to Chelsea at the Chico, Ca location. I told her I didn't have coverage from my insurance carrier and needed a cheap rental for 24 hours needed to repair my car. I was told no problem, it was all set and would be around $30. I arrived on September 25 to pick up my rental car. Before much was said, Chelsea came across very aggressive. She stated i did not have a reservation and she would have remembered talking to me and did not. Then she changed to oh, I remember you were supposed to call back and let me know if you have insurance coverage. That was not true. I told her on Sept 7 I did not have coverage and we had joked about insurance not covering things. She then told me she had no available cars except a luxury car. I had no choice but to leave in that car as I was stranded 70 miles from home. When I arrived home I looked at the receipt she had given to me. First off, it is a contract for an insurance claim rental, not an individual rental. I was charged for two calender days and two days of "pers @ $8.99 a day" I don't know what that charge is for. I am also charged for basic insurance coverage @ $29.99 x 2 days. I did elect to have that coverage. She did not explain that everything was being charged times two. So my "$30 bucks" is now $167.83 for 24 hours. I called hertz on the 877 number and explained what was happening only to be transferred to, you guessed it, Chelsea. I told her I wanted to speak to a supervisor. She said she was the supervisor. I hung up. Chelsea called me a bit later and tried to explain, stating if I had even reserved an economy car two plus weeks ago, she would not have had one today. Why didn't she tell me that when I called more than two weeks ago? I knew when the dealership body shop strongly recommended using hertz and to ask for Chelsea for the body shop discount, I should have called Enterprise. read more

Needed to rent a 4 wheel drive SUV for my drive up into snow country and decided to rent through Hertz. I have to say this is the smallest Hertz I've been too, but in all my travels, probably one of the friendliest I've rented from including getting a decent car. Both the pick and drop off for this Hertz is inside the 1 terminal Chico Airport . You would have to be blind to miss the counter. I put in a request for a 4x4 SUV about a week before the reservation and they told me no problem and that the tires were all weather and shouldn't be a problem for the snow. Upon coming up there, they had everything all set and the person remember our phone conversation and she told she was giving us one of their best vehicles for driving in the snow. We got a Ford Escape with all the bells and whistles including GPS & Satellite radio. The gas while not topped off was about 95% full. The car was well maintained and clean. The only negative to it was it smelled like someone smoked in it. It wasn't a strong scent, but just enough to know it was there. As to driving, the car handled great driving to and from Susanville in the snow. I didn't have any worries about the rental car break down in this car. We got the car back a little later than we were suppose to but the person there only charged me a 1 day rate. I also pre-purchased the gas which was about $0.25 lower than what you would have purchased in the city. Huge bonus there especially if you know you're going to use a full tank. The rate came out to be about $145 for a little more than 24 hours but that price not only includes the rental, but as mentioned above, a full tank of gas, and I also bought the damage insurance due to the bad weather conditions we were driving in. Just the car alone was about $80 which is pretty good all things considering what we got in the SUV. The only other negative I have to say is that they keep the same hours as the airport. Which is generally the close 6PM on weekdays and 1PM on weekends (this is a killer). Overall, very happy with this Hertz and wish more of their Car Rentals were like this one. I would highly recommend this Hertz and would give them a 4 star rating. read more

The drop-off is always just as expected and make it very easy for us. Often times my requests come through last minute and that has never impacted the service I have received from them as well. Not surprised this location has such poor ratings.. the "supervisor" is incredibly unprofessional. I received the car with a little over a quarter to full and returned it a little over half a tank. They kept my $50 deposit and charged me $40 more for fuel without my authorization . On a FUEL EFFICIENT car!!!! Took them twelve days to process everything after the vehicle was returned. If I could rate them at a 0 star, I would! When I rented a car with Hertz, it was because my car had been rear-ended. I was told the insurance would pay for everything except the gas. The "sales-man" behind the counter immediately started up-selling me and even though I explained I have no money, he convinced me to add insurance coverage to the policy. I expected to pay about $50 for the week I had the car. I never received any bill or itemization of what I was charged for but when I checked my account 1 month later Hetrz had billed me for $185.00!!!! HORRIBLE SERVICE -- made a reservation a couple weeks in advance, was told to be in at 7:30 am by a employee in order to assure a rental car. Arrived on time and it wasn't until 745 an employee came out to greet me. I was ignored at first at several phone calls were answered instead of greeting me. No friendly attitude. The manager was extremely rude. The pick up service they offer was not available so we had to take a 25$ taxi ride which was not comped. Beware If you use a debit card they run a credit check. They tell you that no where and will deny you without reason. Plus a 200$ deposit. After finally being helped they told me I have to wait an hour for them to do an oil change. Horrible business. The worst Hertz Rental Station in North America. They are normally completely out of cars no matter how early you book and see no use in informing you so you could look for a backup plan. Communication tends to be zero until you call them a hundred times ahead of your rental. Especially fascinating, how the station in Sacramento is packed with cars, while they have a wait list of 5 people in Chico who all wait for rentals. I'm not sure who's organizing their fleet, but I'm sure they should not let him/her doing it any longer. Besides they normally have the shitty cars, so rentals with a mileage above 40000 are common. read more

The deal I chose gave me an upgrade to a certain level of vehicle, and I also requested a vehicle with satellite radio. The morning of my rental I arrive early and am rewarded with sitting around for 15 minutes while the one employee takes calls and deals with other waiting customers. Finally it's my turn and I'm told that there are no vehicles available for an upgrade so I'll have to forfeit that part of the deal, and also there are no vehicles with satellite radio. Outstanding. More sitting and standing around and I finally have a vehicle brought to me for inspection. The vehicle has a broken taillight. Back inside we go, and now all of the sudden there IS an upgrade vehicle available! I get to stand around for 15 more minutes while Miss Prissy the Blonde treats her employees disrespectfully and is obviously annoyed that I exist because I'm causing her more work. Finally a new employee appears at the counter and much more pleasantly starts to walk me through all of the new paperwork for the replacement vehicle. Finally, 30+ minutes later, my prepaid rental experience has concluded and I have a car. The only reason I give 2 stars over 1 is because the vehicle had no issues, and the return process was fast and easy. read more

First off, the person that helped me was really nice and accommodating even though they lost my reservation the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. Thankfully, they had another vehicle for me that was not clean. I ended up taking the dirty vehicle 45 minutes after the place closed because the guy didn't know how to do certain things with the computer. There was no manager and with all the issues he forgot to give me my license and credit card back the day before Thanksgiving on a one-way trip to San Francisco. Without my credit card and license I could not get into bars or buy anything on Black Friday (credit card requires ID). The "volunteer" employee felt bad but he couldn't do anything but comp some gas. No Manager. No Help. When I finally was able to go back to Hertz in Chico on Saturday they failed to tell me they close at noon and they're closed on Sunday. WOW. I had to take time off work to get my license and credit card back on Monday. In retrospect, it could be partially my fault for not doublechecking my wallet before I hit the road but it was late and after waiting a total of an hour and a half I was ready to drive. read more

I am not sure what is going on at this location. Someone named JoAnn completely dropped the ball, or never had the ball to begin with. She did not know how to use the computer, continually told me that my reservation didn't exist, even though I had the printout of the confirmation, then she said they didn't have a car for me, then she said the car they did have my insurance won't pay for.... on and on and on. Only after another employee came in was JoAnn showed all her errors. Then JoAnn had the cajones to tell me "don't wreck this car you are responsible for it." I will never use this location again, and I may never use Hertz again because of JoAnn. read more

TERRIBLE all around!! I rented through Hertz when my car was in an accident - insurance was paying so I went with their recommended company. Big Mistake. First, they showed up an hour late to pick me up, despite agreeing to a specific time. If they had told me they couldn't make it at that time, I would have gotten a ride to the rental location on my own. Not to mention that the driver they sent got slightly lost on the way back! Once I finally arrived at the rental counter, there was only one person working and one person in line ahead of me, but it still took forever to get to me (and they say they're always busy like this). I finally got my car and got to work much later than intended, but I figured the worst was over... wrong. After I turned in the car, with a FULL tank of gas (it was a Corolla, so it only cost $8 to refill after 3 days of driving) I noticed a $26.50 charge on my credit card from Hertz. I called them to find out what this charge was for and they put me on hold for a few minutes before asking if they could get my number and call me back. 25 hours later, still no call, so I called again. No answer. 10 minutes later, I called again and one of their drivers answered, couldn't help with my question so he took down my number for them to call me back. 27 hours later, still no call, so I called the Corporate Customer Service number and after being on hold for 10 minutes, they told me it was a FUEL CHARGE! Now they want me to send in a receipt showing that I did refuel... taking up even more of my time due to their mistakes. I will NEVER be renting from Hertz again. read more

I generally use a different rental car company and tried Hertz this time trying to get a bargain. BIG MISTAKE! Terrible service. My wife requested a pick up while I was at work and they never showed up. Had to call multiple times before someone finally came.They were also rude to her on the phone and even hung up on her! I can't complain about the car we got. It did will without any problems. My wife returned the car again while I was at work. She had to wait 45 minutes before anyone helped her. There was only one person in front of her but only one person working the desk. She had to wait for the person to rent the car and then vacuum out a car for the person in front of her. Then they tried to charge her an additional $70 above our agreement and said oh we will give you $10 off for waiting. NO Not paying! Not in the agreement. Then she needed a ride home and they had to take the car to a gas station before they could take her home because they didn't have any gas in their car! It took her about 2 hours to return the car! and we live less than 10 miles from the location! So not happy. I'm even more upset that they treated my wife this way. I wish it would have been me so I could have at least told them off and talked to a manager to complain. Ridiculous! Never again Hertz! read more

Worst rental car location in California. Dont worry about them trying to upsale you on anything. They will straight up give your car away, give you an upgrade because its the weekend, make you pay for it and add insurances which you never asked for and tell you its a service charge. Dont bother calling for an explanation because they will put you on hold or no sooner does miss Rachel just hang up on you acting like she'll call you back. Nice assistant management material. And the real manager will sit there arguing with you and tell you he doesnt have authority to do honest business and take the money for what you actually reserved. No authority, sure. Besides their terrible management style. They leave 1 person alone all weekend to take all the complaints, wash the cars, answer the phones, do the inspections and the transactions. Hertz initiated a new policy not allowing you to use a debit card for payment. I used a popular website to reserve my car from hertz and paid without problems or warnings using my debit card. When I went to pick up my car I waited 20 minutes to even be acknowledged. It was a costumer in front of me who apologized for the wait! All I would have liked to have heard was, "we'll be with you in a minute. " When I did speak to an agent, I was told of this debit card policy and was told I would have to cancel the reservation and make a new one with a credit card. Much to my surprise I was told I would have a cancellation fee! To avoid the cancellation fees they wanted to charge me, I had to spend 30 minutes on the phone with their corporate headquarters to waive the fees. They set me up with a new reservation and unfortunately they did not have a Toyota on the lot, the one I reserved on the website. I was also told it had Bluetooth as I wanted to listen to music from my phone. It didn't work. When I went to return the car, I called and asked for a shuttle. I was informed that they didn't have the staff and in the future I should call well in advanced so they could staff appropriately. Sounded legit until I got there and witnessed a customer getting a shuttle! I asked about it and was told it was because they reserved a shuttle! I reserved a car for Saturday January 11 at noon and planned to leave for Southern California that day. I was in Chico, but I did not hurry to get to the airport thinking it was a 9-5 business. Well I got there a little after 1 pm and found an empty counter. After checking the area and waiting awhile I saw a hand written sign showing you closed at noon. So If I book a car for noon and you close anytime near that I should be advised of business hours. So I had to delay my trip until the next day. So on January 22, I returned to drop my car off. Well, there again the counter was empty. Hours showed it was open. I walked around looking for someone, went to the restroom, and still could not find anyone. No sign, no bell, no button to push, just no one there. After approx. 15 minutes, I finally called the business phone number and heard it ringing in the back and a female answered. I asked if anyone was working. She said she was in back and would be right out. I explained to her there should be a sign or bell or something. She blew me off. I reserved/ prepaid ( with the AAA discount) for my rental a week in advance for the weekend to visit my family back home. When i walked into the place they weren't welcoming nor were they professional. The guy at the counter didn't tell me any of the policies he just took my card and started to swipe it for all these fees that he failed to tell me about. I had got a huge discount for being a AAA member and they still tried to charge me for things that were clearly waived or reduced with my membership. Even after all of that the amount they wanted at the time was completely different that what I expected, so I asked if I could return the next day to pick up the car and he proceeded to tell me that was ok. I went back this morning to pick up the car and they told me the car i had reserved they gave it to someone else. I was so confused considering they had already charged my card for the car. So i asked if there were any other cars available and he said no there wasn't.... I then asked if i could get a refund and he said no there was nothing that he could do. The whole process was a nightmare and i advise anyone who plans on renting a car from them should go in and talk to them in person and avoid paying online they will get you for your money even if its not your fault. The first number was to a collision campany and not an actual Hertz rental agency. I was told to call the Hertz at the airport. I did and I asked about the weekend specials for 10.00 a day that was advertised on line, the agent had no clue what I was talking about. He then gave me a third number to call. This place is the biggest joke. I was in an accident that was not my fault and I had a rental from them until my car was done being repaired. I returned the car on August 22nd, 2013 and for some reason they did not scan it in until the 23rd. The person that hit me insurance only paid for the rental until I picked up my car and since Hertz did not scan it in until the 23rd they send me a bill for one day $26.00. I called the branch and spoke to the manager and he could not even find the file where I rented the car. I called several times and spoke with the manager and was told he would find it and it would be taken care of. I started getting collection calls to my work office line and I was furious so I went out the location and spoke with the manager Sal in person. He could not tell me that it was taken care of and said that he is sure that he fixed it the last time I called him and I wanted confirmation. I can not get through to anyone in the collection department. I received a call from the manager 11/26/2013 at 4:55pm to tell me that it was just fixed but he could not tell me if this has hit my credit. I would have paid the freaking $26.00. I tried to call the collections department and I still can not get in touch with a real person so I called the local office to get the contact information for the boss of the local manager since he is on vacation. The person who answered the phone Matt said that he could not give me the contact information for the Area Manager Shawna Woods. Funny thing I called the Sacramento office and they gave it right to me. I will never rent from them again and I suggest anyone thinking of renting from them go with Enterprise Rentals.
