Greeting from a cheerful clerk, clean premises, friendly conversation, and quick service due to my use of the online check in service. I'd do that again, because it avoids all the questions such as "do you want this extra insurance" or "do you want prepaid gas...". Interestingly, I originally had ended up at Budget, across the street, and Budget's clerk said he didn't know where Hertz was, and he could help me. Weird. As a former sales professional, I knew where my competition was, and keep in mind, he's across the street. I didn't like the possible shadiness of that move: Oh, I don't know where it is, but I can sell you a rental, eh? Meh. I was glad to end up at Hertz. When mentioning that may return the car early, the clerk informed me that early drop offs are no problem, and checked if I would save money, but since I was on a weekly rental, it would not be any savings. If I can give this location zero Stars I would , do not rent from this location. I'm a 365 renter, meaning I rent year round. I've rented from thousands of different locations all across the US. I rented from Hertz , enterprise, alamo, Avis, I have never been treated so poorly anywhere as I rented from this location. I don't know why I rented from here for 3 months straight with all the problems they gave me. I got charged a bunch of extra fees for things that we're not relevant , like having a second driver when it was only me driving. Adding up to $30+ a day. And every time I would try to extend they would make up some excuse how I could not extend the vehicle and I had to come bring it in and then when I did that they would let me re-rent it for a higher price at a new rate also taking another $200 deposit . Later next time the people that work here are all so rude and every time we talk on the phone it was like they didn't know who I was even though I was renting there for 3 months . Do not rent here Hertz should close this location and fire the employees. If you decide to rent here after reading this review, just remember , I told you so . read more

I've rented from this place a dozen times in 2 years. Never had an issue and would actually recommend it. That is until recently. Tiffany is a bigot and truly terrible. I am apart of the presidents circle, and she does not respect it at all. She only is pleasant to white older men in the presidents circle. The car I rented was unavailable so she forced me to upgrade and charged me! Again my status allows for a free upgrade. She has tried to over charge me by forcing me to add my spouse and charged me extra even though I do not need too with my status. Plus my spouse didn't drive. She told me since she would be in it she had too. Made me feel like I said spouse as a scam, because I am married to the same sex. She checked my insurance, but not others. Honestly I don't understand the other reviews I'm seeing on this business because I have had nothing but excellent service through this branch. Extremely kind and courteous and more than willing to be patient and answer all and any questions I might have. I'm from orange county so as most know we're stuck up and stubborn and spoiled, I get better service at this location than I do it any of the ones located nearby and where I live. I highly recommend utilizing this branch for all car rental needs because he will be taking very well care of. I did a one day, one way trip with Hertz from Portland to Corvallis. I went with the "mystery car/manager special" and got a Chevy Bolt EV with approximately 172 miles of range. I had to return the car the next day and drove around for 2 hours trying to find a working fast charger as the company requires 70% or higher state of charge upon return, which makes sense. (Return is as you got it) However I experienced nothing but charging issues and nightmares, the main reason EV's aren't popular in many geographic areas. All fast chargers in the area were down, malfunctioning and or non-op. I finally found a working fast charger an hour before return and was able to get 30 kWh getting the car to 112 miles of range where the car then gave me an error message "plugged in, not able to charge." I returned the car and explained the situation to the lady and she said well we're gonna charge ya $35 recharge fee since it's only at half charge! $35 recharge fee for not being able to charge it another 60 miles due to their car charging error!? That was Almost as much as the daily rate or 11 gallons of gas! I explained what had happened and she shrugged and acted like not my problem. She could have given me a break given the car wouldn't take any more charge past 112 miles! Do yourself a favor and don't rent any broken EV's from Hertz! They'll charge you for their incompetent broken vehicles! My past experience with Hertz was bad and I regret giving them another chance! Do your self a favor if you do take the risk and rent a GAS car! For $35 EV charge I could have driven a Corolla 439 miles instead of the 135 miles I got from the bolt. (A gas car would have costed me $11 in gas instead of their $35 charge plus the $14 in charge session! $49!!!) I tried to rent a car from Hertz in Corvallis for my 21 year old daughter. I booked the car online. According to AAA, they waive the young driver fee if booked through Hertz. Just to make sure, I called Hertz to confirm that we wouldn't get charged the young driver fee with AAA membership. I was told that the fee is waived only if the rental is picked up from the airport! Fair warning about HERTZ. Read if you don't want to be charged hundreds of dollars for nothing. I rented a car from SFO in August. I drove it and after the first hour (The first time I got it above 55mph in the SFO area) it started to have a vibration that we thought was the license plate holder. This was a one way rental. 24 hours in a Mustang convertible that cost me $350 bucks. When I arrived in Corvallis I turned in the car and let them know about he noise. I was originally going to complain, because the sound was unpleasant. However, I opted to just inform them of the noise. They asked me to fill out an incident report. I did, but told the manager that I didn't feel comfortable filling out an "incident report" because I didn't have an incident. She ASSURED me "No, no. This is just to get the details so we can have someone look at it". Turned out to be a broken bumper UNDER the car. Something that couldn't have been seen during the inspection. Now 4 months and 3 harassing calls later (One of which I was hung up on by a rep) they are charging ME $700 for the damage. They've taught me 2 things. I shouldn't have tried to help out a corporation, as they don't care about us. If they cared they wouldn't lose the business of a GOLD member that is willing to spend $350 for a 24 hour rental over $700. The second thing they've taught me is that I shouldn't have said a word about the damage. Just like the guy that caused it. The negative review for Corvallis is for the Manager that lied to my face. Or else I wouldn't have filled out a report, which they held against me. The reason why I got hung up on? I asked one of the claims reps which made more sense: A) I'm a dishonest person, that told you about an issue then tried to weasel my way out of it for fun. or B) that I am an honest person, and wanted to inform you of my experience and an issue with the car. Just returned a car that I rented for a month from here and we are very happy. I rented the car on-line then called the local office to confirm as I would be hard pressed to switch cars by myself. I got a AAA discount and they were also able to waive the underage fee with a coupon we found since I was under 25, no more as of this weekend!! I got a call when Hertz was on their way to pick me up and they arrived within a few minutes. The driver was an older guy who lived Eugene and came up occasionally to help at the Corvallis location. He was very talkative and was very friendly. When we arrived the paperwork didn't take long since I had entered most of it on-line. The lady helping me was very nice and explained everything I had questions about. A few signatures and I was on my way. The car, a Kia Rio, was impeccably clean and surprisingly roomy for an economy. It drove well and we had no problems with it during the time we used it. About a week into my in-laws being in town we realized that we really needed our car back and we needed to let my father-in-law drive the rental. A call to the local Hertz told us we needed to come into the office to sign paperwork for that. We drove over and signed then were on our way, it was that easy. My father-in-law also had AAA so there was no cost to add him either! We were scheduled to return the car on a Friday, but a friend needed a car, so we called to see how much it would be to extend the rental over the weekend. We were surprised to find that it was all included in the rental as we rented it for a month and our 28 day rental could be extended and still only be considered a month. No paperwork needed to extend it so we kept the rental and lent our car to our friend. I returned it on Monday with no problems and got a ride back to my house. Overall, nice clean car, friendly staff, and great prices with the discounts we found. If we ever need a car again I know where we will be going! read more

We've rented vehicles from this location a few times, and the customer service is always great. Thanks to AAA, we get good rates here, including waiver of the additional driver fee, which is a must when we go on a road trip. This review would've been five stars, but our most recent rental had a couple of snafus. The first: We were renting a specialty vehicle, and the person who rented it before us didn't bring it back on time. Hertz really should build in some sort of buffer or make the penalties higher for returning a vehicle late. They did race around and bring another vehicle from a different location, but this delayed our trip by two hours AND the new vehicle got worse gas mileage, which ended up costing us about 25% more in gas costs. The second snafu was related to payment methods. I don't have credit cards; I don't believe in racking up debt, so I don't bother. We used my husband's credit card to reserve the rental, then switched the payment over to my debit card upon return so that we're paying real money for the transaction. Except... they authorized the charge twice, which overdrew my checking account. I always keep a couple hundred bucks in there as a buffer, but when your rental charge of $300 goes through twice, goodbye buffer. Embarrassing, since I found out when my debit card was declined at a gas station. Fortunately, I was able to transfer money from savings on my mobile app. Anyway, a call to the Hertz customer service line did take care of the problem relatively quickly. The office manager was also very apologetic and nice about the whole thing... they really do strive to make things right. I will continue to rent from here, but I would like to see them not penalize customers who prefer not to use credit cards. read more

Rented a car from them for 4 days while mine was getting repaired. Car was fine, I filled it up and drove less then a mile back to drop it off on the last day. They then tried to charge me 2.5 weeks later for returning it 3/4 full. I called the office to tell them it was a mistake. Was told that the guy went straight to the gas station and filled up and it was 3.7 gallons. I told her there was no way that is correct and she said she has receipts saying it is. And my receipts showing I filled it that morning then topped it off on my way meant nothing. She said there's nothing she can do. Honestly don't really care about the money, just the principle of being an honest business person. Don't rent from them. Stick with enterprise or Avis. Cars are all about the same, but the service is better and honest. Avis has never given me a problems the many times I've rented while traveling for work. read more

Hertz was extremely unhelpful they also charged me $200 for a service I agreed to and explained was for a single day (it cost $12 per day). They did not explain that I would need to come into the location to terminate the insurance arrangement when I rented over the phone. when I inquired about this at the office they were extremely extremely unhelpful and the acted like it was my fault he also told me that they would not refund me. Go to Hertz! This place will rip you off! It took me an entire hour to go through the renting process. I'm under 25 so I had to have my grandma come rent the car, and then they put me on as an additional driver...AND you have to have a credit card that has at least $400 available on it. Then after we go through that whole process, the lady tells me they don't have any more compact cars available, so I could get a free upgrade to a fancy SUV. What she failed to mention was how much more expensive it was going to cost me in gas mileage. When I asked her what the gas mileage was, she just answered with "it's pretty good!" and stared at me like I have to accept that. It ended up costing me an EXTRA $80 in gas because they didn't have a compact car available. read more

Insurance paid for my rental car because I got into an accident that was not my fault. While going through the paperwork before receiving the rental, the manager told me that I could "add insurance to the car in case anything happened for only 20 dollars". I replied by saying "It's only 20 dollars? Wow that's cheap. If it really is only 20 dollars then sure I'll pay for it." I signed the card machine without getting to see anything. Later, I got the bill and found out it was 20 dollars a day. I called Hertz and they told me there was nothing they could do about the charge. If not for insurance, I would not be able to afford a rental car. I am very discouraged that the manager did not tell me all of the details. read more

They found my GPS! I rented a van a month ago and didn't realize 'til this week that I must have left my GPS unit in it. I called, and though the vehicle had since been rented several times out of Portland and Corvallis (and who knows where else), they found my GPS. They shipped it back to the Corvallis office and called me when it was in. The women were professional, courteous, and customer service pros. They would not accept a reward I offered, just said they try very hard to return lost items. Obviously they do. I work for an organization that offers a discount at Enterprise, but I've always found comparable, if not better, prices at Hertz with my AAA discount. The women in this office seem quick on the computer, always appreciated with the amount of paperwork involved, and seem to really care about the customer. The vehicles are clean and we love the extra touch of satellite radio. read more

Excellent pick up and drop off service. We were given a larger vehicle with less mileage than we'd hope for our short weekend trip. That said, the price was at the original rate and the vehicle was a comfy, classy ride. For us, worth it on this particular trip as we had a good amount of luggage and such. My only suggestion is to offer plenty of hybrid SUVs instead of the Nissan Rogue we drove. Nice vehicle, but yeah, mileage matters too. read more

Worst. Rental. Experience. Ever. I reserved a mid-size car while my car was in the shop after someone rear-ended it. Their insurance company, State Farm, put through an order for me to rent a car from Hertz. At the time, I saw no problem with this. I called and "reserved" a mid-size car, and requested that someone bring it to the shop and I'd fill out the paperwork there. I was told no problem, and made an appointment for them to meet me at 11:30 AM on a Tuesday. I received a call at 11:25 saying that they wanted to confirm the time and place for pickup, and someone was already on their way. Someone finally showed up around 11:40...but they did not bring the vehicle I was renting, they said I had to come back with them to the office to pick it up, and that the office was only five minutes away. If the office was only five minutes away, and someone was on the way when they called at 11:25, then why were they late? So, then I was presented with options for vehicles: a dirty black minivan that smelled like dogs, or a grey minivan that at least was clean. Where was the mid-size car I reserved? They didn't have any. I don't drive giant vehicles, and was highly uncomfortable with driving one. There was a Nissan Rogue, which was at least smaller, sitting there. I asked for that instead. I was told I couldn't rent that because it was reserved. I was dumbfounded. Yes, and I reserved a mid-size car, which you don't have, so... Anyway, there I was, at their office instead of at the shop where I could have just rescheduled my repair and rented from someone else, and I was stuck, forced to take a minivan that I was highly uncomfortable driving. They told me I could just take the minivan "for now," and they'd call me immediately when they got a car in, and I could just exchange it. They even said they'd bring the car to me at work and take the van back. They made sure to remind me, as we were filling out the paperwork, that they were "upgrading me for free." I asked how being forced to take a minivan I was very uncomfortable with driving when I reserved something else was an upgrade. Clearly the clerk realized he'd said the wrong thing since he didn't respond. They contacted me late in the day, and told me I could pick up a Toyota Corolla (where did that offer to bring the car to me go?). I'd already left town for the day, but they told me they'd hold the Corolla for me and I could pick it up any time after 7 AM the next morning. When I arrived at 7 AM to pick up the Corolla, they didn't have it any more. (Of course.) But they had a "really nice" Chevy Impala...which was missing some buttons on some of the panels and had a service light on, which I was assured was just because it didn't get turned off when the oil was changed last. (That was also the excuse for why there was a service engine light on in the minivan.) I was really uncomfortable driving the van, so I took the Impala even though I was nervous about the service light. I drove the Impala that day and the next day, when, in the afternoon while I was driving on Highway 34 a "Service Stabilitrak" light came on. I called them to ask if it was safe to continue driving it like that, and the kid that answered the phone just said, "I don't know, I'm not a mechanic." So...maybe, find out then? I gave up on getting assistance from him and hung up. I continued driving, and then, randomly, *the car applied the brakes by itself.* It then flashed a "Service Brake-Assist" message on the dash. I was rattled, since I've never had a car randomly brake while I was driving at freeway speed before. I pulled over, called Hertz back and told them what happened. The same kid from before sounded unconcerned, and just said he could trade it for a different car if I brought it back in. So I turned around and drove, afraid it was randomly going to try and give me whiplash again, all the way back to Corvallis. I was livid. The employee was clearly unconcerned that Hertz is renting out unsafe cars, or how much they'd inconvenienced me with having to make a third trip to exchange cars. When I commented on how ridiculous the whole situation was, the kid clearly didn't care to do anything about it. He said they had a Chevy Malibu I could take, filled out the paperwork and sent me on my way. I was incredibly relieved when I got the call the next day that my car repair was finished. I went and picked up my car, left the keys to the rental in the shop, called Hertz and told them they could drive their car back from the shop at their convenience. I'd already made too many trips to their office. This Hertz location is a complete disaster. Avoid at all costs. read more

Do yourself a favor, call Enterprise. I had someone who is insured with State Farm ram into my car. State Farm told me they'd pick up the tab for a car rental while mine is being fixed. State Farm had everything organized in no time. Got an email confirming my rental was all set and that Hertz could pick me up at the auto body shop if I wanted. So, called Hertz after-hours and left a message asking them to pick me up on Monday morning at 9:30 - and I asked them to call back to confirm. Monday morning, no call. So I go into the Hertz office where there are maybe six people trying to rent a car, and one guy wandering around with a clipboard. It was pretty clear no one would be picking me up in a half hour, so I drove my car out to the body shop and had my wife pick me up, and drop me back at Hertz. After a good long wait, I tell the desk guy my name, I have a rental that had been confirmed at least a week ago, etc. He stares at his computer for a while and says "oh, we *just* got this reservation and bad news, we don't have any cars." Mind you... not "we don't have the car you want" but NO cars. Then he says "we'll probably have a car by 2, and we'll call you." 2 O'clock comes and goes ... no call. So I hike back over there at 3. New person: "there are a lot of people ahead of you, and we're giving them cars as they come in. We'll probably have one by 4 -- we'll call you." I've used Enterprise many times, about two blocks away, and every single time they've been very nice, made a sincere effort to get me on my way in a hurry, and they've even had cars available. Being an auto rental business, you'd think there might be a checklist to prepare for the business day. And you think on that list, near the top, it would say have some cars for people to rent. Avoid the Hertz "lucky driver car lottery" and the nonchalant "oh well, get in line" attitude, and just call Enterprise. Oh, and I had someone else ram into my car a couple of years ago. Their insurance company had me go get a rental from Hertz, then it was a huge hassle over the "deductible" -- imaginary fee Hertz dreamed up for people to pay. No mas, getting a car from here hertz. I work for a government agency and am in charge of travel logistics...We recently rented six vehicles from the Hertz in Corvallis. They first tried to bait us into paying double what was agreed to be paid...when I told them we were going to cancel the reservation and go elsewhere, they backed down and decided to "honor" the quoted rate. Then when I got the invoices, I quickly realized they didn't honor their rate and charged an upgrade fee for the vehicles we rented. Every year, the agency I work for travels to LA, the Bay area, Phoenix, etc....The weekend cost of these six vehicles were three times what we normally pay for large SUV's in Major cities. I've called their office three times to try and get this fixed. They keep telling me the area manager is going to call me to fix this. No one ever does. I've called corporate Hertz multiple times to try and get this fixed. They refuse to do anything as well. They said the local branch has to fix it. Most disappointing experience with Hertz I've ever had. Wish Corporate Hertz had the guts to do something to assist a member of their President's club.
