First of all, the staff here do not wear masks, so do not come here if you don't want to get COVID I took my car here to diagnose an issue causing it to pull to the right. Later that afternoon they call me and quote me $1700 to replace the front strut mounts with an alignment and a tire balance. I found this to be suspicious considering the milage on the vehicle so I asked them to show me the issue up on a lift, which seemed to throw them off guard. The mechanic then proceeded to show me the shock absorber bushings, not the front strut mounts, pointing out the cracks and wear. At this point I was wholly not convinced by their story and got a second opinion from a place down in Eugene. The shop in Eugene didn't find any issues with the front suspension, other than the wear on the shock absorber bushing, and just did an alignment, which fixed the issue. Im not sure if they were trying to rip me off or they are just incompetent, but, either way, I do not recommend this shop read more

I took my Boxster to Ross the owner. This guy is very sharp has a vast knowledge of my car. He explains everything to me to ( T.) DO NOT LET YOUR DAUGHTER BRING HER CAR HERE I am a mechanic and our daughter goes to University here, so we needed someone to take care of our old 328is. I noticed some tranny fluid in the driveway, so had her take it to Horton's where they had serviced her VW earlier. They topped it off and told me they could not find a leak. My daughter then a month or two later told me about some symptoms that are classic of low transmission fluid, like the engine revving but no power to the wheels...so had her take it in again and again check for leaks and check the fluid level. Again, they said it was fine and charged us (of course) for their time. They told us the level was fine, and mysteriously the issue went away for a while. 2 more months later, and now the tranny won't shift into gear, have it towed to Horton's, they again say the fluid is at a normal level and no sign of a problem. Must be my daughter. Then they remove it from the lift and it won't shift into gear. I called them and told them what I wanted them to do and what to look for, having come to the conclusion that they just don't know, and being an experienced transmission specialist (on other types of equip), so they basically do a transmission service at this point and change the filter and look for signs of issues. Very oddly they again state that the transmission fluid level was correct. But of course when they refill it the problem again goes away. No leaks, they say. My daughter has been driving it for a month again with no more issues. My daughter comes home and parks the car in our driveway, and we now have a puddle of transmission oil about the width of the car that permanently screwed up our new concrete driveway, after spending over $600 on 3 attempts to find a leak, we are now going to find a competent mechanic shop to take it to, and will never come here again. Each time we took it to Horton's they acted like our daughter was just a stupid little girl and that we probably shouldn't trust her telling us how it was acting, with no apology for their attitude when they took it off the lift and it would not shift into gear. (they had offered all kinds of alternatives like maybe she didn't have the key in the ignition ?) Really really bad mechanic shop, they are either 1) incompetent and don't know what a leak looks like (you always look for the clean, wet spot as flowing oil will clean the area it is flowing from) or 2) dishonest- if the fluid level has been fine each time they looked, then where the heck is all this oil going and what is replacing it? If being replace with engine oil would they not have seen the color change when they just dumped the oil and removed the pan? Maybe they didn't even do what I asked them to do if that's the case? Oddly the problem goes away for a short time each time it goes in their shop? Perhaps they are covering for the first time they were dishonest with us about 'not needing any oil', and all they did each time was top it off and charge us a ridiculous amount for doing so. Either way,we still have the same problem and I could have bought a good used transmission by now. Personally I think it's at least a little bit of both, and will be contacting my credit card company as to the charges from the last visit read more

HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE!!! This is by far the absolute WORST, RUDEST, MOST INCOMPETENT, RIP-OFF of a "car repair shop" I have ever come across!!! I brought my VW Passat in to have the heater core changed. I was told I needed to drop it off the afternoon before they were going to do the job so that they could start on it first thing when they came in and that it would take one whole day so I was going to be able to pick it up the afternoon after dropping it off. The afternoon I was supposed to have my car back, I got a text message from them saying that the job ahead of me had taken longer than expected so my car would not be done and ready for pickup for another day. That was fine, I understand that stuff like that happens sometimes. I wasn't actually able to pick up my car for 3 more days. When I went to get it, they were extremely rude to me when I went inside to pay my bill. Then 2 of the staff, the office woman and a mechanic I believe, stood outside and just stared at me making me very uncomfortable while I got my seat and mirrors situated. I got the feeling that they were trying to rush me off. Right after I pulled out I went to turn on the radio and it wouldn't work so I pulled into a parking lot to figure out why. Between that stop and another look at things when I got home I couldn't believe all the damage they had done to my car (mind you, this car is an 04 but it was in perfect condition. EVERYTHING was like new or was new when I dropped it off). They had RIPPED wires out of my stereo/navigation system/backup camera, pinched them in the console breaking even more wires in more places, they broke several clips that hold my dash in place making parts of it just flop and dangle, fucked up my wiper sensor, demolished my glove box light and got grease and grime all over everything. If all that wasn't enough, by the next day, I had about 2 gallons of liquid on the passenger side floorboard which explained why my coolant alarm kept going off and I had to keep putting fluids in the coolant system. THEY PUT A HOLE IN MY BRAND NEW HEATER CORE. And I got all this damage done for the great low price of $1000 (plus the cost to replace my brand new stereo/navigation system/backup camera) I don't have another $1000 to get the heater core done again (correctly) so I can't really use my car since losing all my coolant into the cab of my car risks overheating it and blowing the motor. PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THIS DISGRACE OF A SHOP. THEY'LL JUST RUIN YOUR CAR AND SCREW YOU OVER. This place is an embarrassment to the profession!! I don't know how they can look at themselves in the mirror or sleep at night being such dishonest not-rights. read more

When I first moved to Corvallis in the Summer of 2002 I had the check engine light come on in my 1996 BMW. I looked around and found that Horton's claimed to be a "German car specialist" shop. The owner, Ross, ran this shop out of a large garage on his property in S. Corvallis, out by the airport. I went there and had him diagnose the problem. It was literally because a gas pump jockey in Albany didn't put the gas cap back on tightly enough. He charged me the full pop for connecting my car up to his diagnostic machine; I think it was $50. A good shop that was trying to keep a new customer happy and encourage return business would have let it slide for something so piddly. He didn't. (I didn't know then that Auto Zone does this brief diagnostic hookup for free. I do now.) Since then I have gone back a few times with the same car to have him attempt repairs, with mixed results. There is an intermittent problem with the electrical system that causes the car to not start. Ross kept the car for 2 days to try to "find the problem." During this time (back when premium gas was $5 a gallon) he drove my car around to "do errands and get it to repeat the problem." He put over 60 miles on the car and never fixed the problem. Ross always insisted that I leave the car in the afternoon (they close at 5 pm, and still do) to do ANY work to it, even something as small as an oil change. So you wind up losing at least a day for even small jobs. Because of this policy I started going to other shops for generic things like oil changes. Which brings us to today. I called Horton's to see about a new problem with the same car. The phone rang about 5 or 6 times and then went into a speaker phone mode. I heard Ross say "[my name], oh that guy. What a pain in the a**. He's a tall guy with a beard who thinks he's important as sh**. I don't want to talk to him. Tell him I'm not here." I don't know how this all transpired, but it did. And I heard it all, first-hand. Since Ross moved this shop to 4th street in Corvallis a couple of years ago it has become a different repair shop than when it was at his house. The other staff might be fine, but I'm never going back to this place again. So, if you want to go to an auto repair shop owned and run by a guy who thinks of and treats his customers this way, then Horton's Auto Repair is the right place for you. read more

never had a problem with the work performed on any of the vehicles I have taken to them. They work on all cars, not just foreign, and do an excellent job. Some cars are just problematic (such as BMW's and Jags) and just a pain to work on. Yes Ross can be cranky sometimes, but he is an excellent mechanic as well as his staff. He is honest and doesn't try to upsell or give you false information. They have been my shop of choice for 26 years. read more

I had my BMW 735i repaired at Hortons and could not be happier ... over the telephone I explained my problems and when I arrived they had all the proper parts at the shop ready for installation. They fixed a easy repair an other shop had created ... and could not find a find a solution for the problem they created and allowed me to leave their business with my auto in dis-repair ... one look an Hortons saw the part the other shop had installed was the wrong part completely ! I see the proper part fits the vehicle perfectly ... I should have come here first ! oh and their rates are fair because they do the work correctly ! read more

Came here with a blown motor in my old 1995 318is. I had already lowered the car and it had many other new parts in it and I hated the slow old m42 anyway so I asked them to swap it. To make a long story short, Hortons German Auto Repair was able to accommodate a serious task with reasonable pricing and a very excellent job well done. The best part about this experience was communication. As with any motor swap, there are tons of variables to consider and each time I needed to get new parts they called me and let me know where I could find them at a good cost. They also worked with me on pricing being I'm a student working part time. However I like my car and didn't want the cheapest available mechanic. I wanted the most comprehensive and error free job possible and I definitely feel I got that here. You get what you pay for and I think coming here was a smart move. They were patient when I had to order the mid pipes, get the other exhaust in, and helped me set up dropping off the motor we swapped in. They identified my clutch needing to go and did not charge me additional labor for this. Same with a faulty water pump. Ross, Patty and Robert were all very pleasant and overall I feel they greatly assisted me in this entire ordeal. I now have a fantastic, much quicker and lower mile motor running in my car. The wiring is all neatly done and any custom fabbing was minimal aside from exhaust fitment, which they were able to do in shop. I tried to provide the best parts and OEM only so I'm sure this helped. Robert was the mechanic who did pretty much everything. He even fixed my door for me which was very cool. He did many extra and awesome things you'd expect to find at a reputable shop. Belts were all replaced, fluids checked and replaced if necessary, e brake tightened, the door handle issue which was horrible, fixed. Fuses and electrical components like fog lights that once didn't work, now do. He explained how the shift linkages were slightly different since we kept my transmission and it now basically feels exactly like a short shift kit which is nice. Oil was changed and anywhere fitment or mounting required custom work, Robert came through. Great mechanic. Everything works, he said if I return with the correct hose my ac will blow ice cold too! There were some bumps along the way but again, with swaps of this nature this is to be expected. The pricing, accommodation and overall quality of work and satisfaction can't be beat. I will be returning here for future work on my suspension components and regular tune ups! read more

WOMEN, STAY AWAY. Absolutely horrendous experience. My girlfriend had some work done on her Saab at Hortons since nobody else in town was able to work on the car. After dropping off the car she was called and notified that the price of the repairs had jumped around $200 dollars. She agreed to pay the extra and gave the go ahead for the other work needed. When the work had been completed and we went to pick the car up they tried to charge her another $230 more. No call or anything. 100% tried to take advantage of her being a young woman. Do not go to this shop. Go to global automotive repair instead. They treated her and I far better and the cost was far less. read more

Tried to charge $1000 for a $400 dollar third party aftermarket part and acted like she knew what she was doing, even though she was estimating a ridiculous amount of time that a regular mechanic wouldn't even take. I started bringing my German cars here a couple of years ago after I found out that the dealer in Salem wanted $3800 just for the turbocharger (labor would be extra). Ross did the whole job for $3150 (labor included). Since then, this is the only place where I bring my Mercedes. read more
