Booked an inexpensive reservation on carrentals.com ($40/day for economy), was originally going to go with Advantage to save $40 but their reviews were horrific - 2 hour waits no thank you. The shuttle bus came immediately, and there were 2 folks in front of me once we got to the rental office (admittedly I booked it to the front of the line getting off the shuttle)...and less than 4 minutes I was talking to an agent. He didn't upsell me on anything and you get to pick your car when in the lot of your type. I put Google maps setting to not take toll roads, so didn't get a transponder or anything! Car had a few scrapes and is economy but had Siriusxm and good gas mileage so far. Fingers crossed for the rest of the trip. read more

We arrived at 12:30 am, saw the bus leaving and tried to wave it down. It kept going but we figured another one would be coming soon. Then saw several buses for every other rental car company come by several times. Forty five minutes later we finally see the bus. We take the 5 minute ride to rental car and see our name and "see desk". We have gold status so car is supposed to be ready to go. By now it's 1:15 am. No one is at the desk so we get back on bus to the main rental building. There is a line with 20 people in it. There are two people working the desk. It is 1:45 am and I don't know when we will get a car. Denver Hertz is horrible horrible and I do not recommend them at all. read more

We had such a frustrating experience with our Hertz rental in Denver. The car battery died twice in two days/ once we were stranded for hours on the side of the road and had to spend most of the day at Pep Boys getting it replaced. Then the new battery was completely dead the next morning. Stranded once again. We missed prepaid events and dinner reservations for my sister's birthday, and spent a lot of time just waiting for roadside help. Hertz did refund us, but it doesn't come close to the time, stress, and money lost. We were even told at the location we'd get a travel voucher, which customer service later said "no longer exists." Really disappointing experience overall. Expected better from Hertz. read more

Rent a Heap!! Arrived on a Saturday to rent a full size car to take to Breckenridge for the week. The wait was taking a while and we asked how much longer...just a few minutes was the canned answer...twice. In the end we got a very used up Passat with 77K+ miles on it with a Lyft decal on the back window. WTH? It wasn't clean and the phone charger is for an older phone that doesn't work for us. They don't list it but apparently this has been an unstaffed location for over a month. They have a sign that says "sorry we'll be right back shortly" but that is code for you're going to know to go 2 miles down the street to a different location. They were very irritated that I showed up to the correct location listed on my reservation/their website. I suggested they update their sign with the correct phone number for the staff down the street who sometimes helps this location and they became irritated by the suggestion and canceled my reservation and told me to go away. read more

At the counter, i told the rep that I had full insurance. She added it to my bill anyway, along with premium roadside assistance. When i asked why my bill was TWICE the price quoted, she said it was fees that had not been added. When I got in my car, hello! Fully electric and I am headed up the mountain to 11,000 elevation. (I even told her where i was going) I did not know how to drive OR recharge this car. The valet at my hotel had to educate me. When I turned the car in, I wanted to discuss the issues. Nope. They said this was all my responsibility and couldn't assist. I filled out a survey called "hertz cares" where I got to explain what happened and requested a call back. No call back occurred. Absolutely terrible customer service. Booked a car through their website and paid in full. I show up at the counter in Spokane, WA and was told I'm on a do not rent to list and they can't help me. Turns out I was a victim of identify theft. The customer service number is almost worthless. Had to call multiple times talk to multiple departments, over three 3 weeks later I'm still waiting on my refund (was told it would take 7-10 business days). Told I could not speak to a supervisor on at lest 3 occasions. This company could care less if they have satisfied customers and will do nothing to help out and resolve issues. No explanation from employees at all but heard from another customer their "system was down". Another person on the ride over said this happens frequently and they've experienced this before. Hertz at Denver doesn't even deserve 1 star. First, the shuttle did not arrive at the pick up location for at least 30 minutes. Me and dozens of other people were waiting in the cold. I called the number listed on the Hertz Denver Airport website and eventually got through to someone after trying to navigate the maze of options who said they just sent two shuttles. I ended up taking an Uber to the Hertz location because these shuttles arrived over 15 minutes later. Second, I got my car and upon getting to the exit, was told that the car I was given in the space ON MY RECEIPT was the wrong one and I should have had a different space. I was made to turn around and put it back in the space and take the car in the other space. There was another car that pulled into space I had come from and the space number they wanted me to take was NOT marked. I had to go back into the building where I was met with a very rude attitude by the manager on duty. She seemed in disbelief that the buses were not running, that I didn't know if I came from the East or West terminal, told me to check the license plate next time instead of the space number, and that I could have possibly talked to someone about the shuttles not running because there was "no local number". She told me I needed to calm down and that I wasn't giving her the answers she needed to help me. I was extremely frustrated, upset, and freezing. It took me 3 hours from when my plane landed to when I was able to get to my work location because of Hertz. This is simply unacceptable and I will never be doing business with Hertz again. You need to train your staff to treat your customers better. You need a local number that someone actually answers and is helpful. And I am appalled that this is what I am paying for. read more

Lost and Found at Denver airport is the worst! My item was recovered and I scheduled for it to be picked up, but when arrived (after a 45 minute drive) they said that it was locked inside someone's office and they couldn't get it. The employee apologized and said that they would mail it to me free of charge and gave me a name and number to call if there was a problem. I never got my item and have tried to contact the office using the number given with no luck and only have the email address that has no reply. Then I got an email saying that my item had bee recovered and I can ache to pick it up, or pay $50.00 to have it shipped!! No customer service at all. We are not driving 45 minutes (each way) again- they should ship it on their dime as promised. read more

Absolutely, worst experience ever renting a car, the lady who helped us was nice but assigned us a car that apparently had already been assigned to another customer but we didn't find that out till we were exiting the car rental lot after waiting in a very long line, they insisted that we return the car back to the station and get another car. All of this took well over an hour, and then when we went to the lot the 2nd time, there were probably 50 cars in line trying to exit. absolutely disorganized and we were not the only person that had to return a car while we were there because they were assigning them to people incorrectly. When I got a car, I saw a staff added some air into one of the tires. After an hour, I had to return to the shop because the air was leaking badly. When the air pressure is so low on just one tire, most likely it's a leak. Also a rack or a rod was a bit off when I drove. They need to do a basic mechanical check before they let people use the cars. read more

We are Hertz Gold members and this was probably the worst car we ever had. We got to choose our car but they were all gross so we settled on a Hyundai Tucson. It was dirty and all dinged up. The remote battery was dead so it wouldn't lock/open or start right away and it would shutter when we were stopped at lights. Now make sure that you always take pics and a video of whatever car you rent because they will try to pin the damage on you if you don't have proof. This is exactly what happened when we returned the car. They asked about the ding and wanted us to fill out an accident report. I refused and told them I had proof that it was already damaged when we got it and then they backed off. Damage to cars are supposed to be documented so whoever checked that car last didn't do their job. Anyways we were disappointed with this particular experience. read more

Spent an hour on the phone with corporate and got the runaround. Crystal, Kristal, whatever way you spell it, hung up after being asked to speak to a supervisor. Customer service tried to downplay it as if they gave me an "upgrade," but I don't know how to drive that car. I have my own Tesla accessories and use specific features. I would give 1/2 star if possible! These guys rented me a car with a slow leak and knew it because the tire pressure was at 59 on the driver side and the rest were around 44. (?) RED FLAG!! I get half way to my 1000 mile destination and turn in for the night of 8 hours of driving. I left from Lakewood Colorado, woke up in New Mexico with a FLAT right front driver side tire, go figure, and had 750 miles left to travel. I went the hell, to put it lightly, to get to my destination safely, get their tire fixed at discount tire in Austin Texas and returned the vehicle in better condition than I rented it. Not only did corporate say, and I quote... "In regard to your inquiry, after carefully checking our system, you haven't contacted our Roadside Service Department to file a report on the incident. Adjustments and credits are based on documented information. Your credit request would not be acknowledged since there were no reports created for this prior to your return. They added it anyway and state because I signed the credit card machine, I accepted the charge. Also ended up with an EV which to them, because you can return it at 70% charge, it is acceptable to give you the car with a 70% charge. Never renting Hertz again. Submitted a complaint. We had a nightmare experience at this Hertz Rent a Car location. Short story-- wrongfully refused to honor our prepaid reservation at night and left us with no other option but to rent a new car that was $500 more expensive. Long story: We prepaid for our rental car ($330) at this Hertz rent a car location. My husband is active duty military, and because he lives outside of our resident state, he is permitted by law, and by Hertz policy, to drive with an expired license as long as he has his military ID. The reason for this is that because active duty servicemembers are required to live outside of their resident state and move so often, maintaining an active drivers license is an incredibly onerous burden. Anyway, at 7pm we arrived at this location to pick up our reserved vehicle. As stated, they refused to honor my husband's reservation because of his expired license even after we informed them of the relevant regulation and Hertz's policy. We asked if we could shift the reservation over to my name (I have an unexpired license and am his spouse), and they refused. They said we (1) could call Hertz corporate customer service and ask them to honor our reservation (except their customer service is offline after 7pm) or (2) make a new reservation. With a very sleepy toddler in tow and no other option that would not set us back 2+ hours, we were forced to open a second reservation. The cheapest car we could get (which was two sizes smaller than our car on our original reservation), was $800. No effort on their part to try to accommodate us. We called customer service the next day, and they confirmed that this location was in the wrong and that their company policy is to permit active duty servicemembers to rent and drive a car with an expired but otherwise valid drivers license as long as the service member has a valid military ID. They reimbursed us for the prepaid car, thankfully. In short, trash location with no respect for corporate policy or active duty service members. We will likely rent from Hertz again in the future given their corporate team's helpful and prompt response on this location's misstep, but we certainly will never rent from this location again. Hoping this location will see this review and properly train their employees to follow corporate policy in the future. read more

The couple in front of my Mom made the wrong reservation and were told that they were out of luck because everything was sold out. Then suddenly they had a bright Shiney Nissan Rogue. Eventhough my Mom made a reservation a week ago she ended up with an "upgrade" to a POS Ford Escape that had dead bugs all over the windshield. Pretty sure I understand what happened here. Booked my rental far in advance paid a deposit and the taxes were to be charged at the airport. The check in process was incredibly rushed, I indicated to the cashier that I didn't need any additional coverage etc. I return to find I am charged an additional ~$400 USD in road side service and other charges. I call Hertz to understand the extra charges applied to my bill, I am not asking they be removed just trying to understand why it was so much more expensive. The customer service person on the phone just tells me that I signed and there is nothing she can do and literally hangs up the call on me. I fully understand its my responsibility to review and if I was confused about the charges I should have made sure she explained them to me but I have never experienced customer service level this bad, I was just asking for an explanation not a refund. We tried Hertz on this trip as we usually use Enterprise but Hertz seemed reputable and they were slightly better value in Denver. But I will 100% never use Hertz to rent again since its nice to be treated like a human. read more

Counter rep quoted $800 as the rate for an upgraded rental when in fact (I found out at the End if the rental) that was the Additional cost). The "premium" vehicle had not been washed or cleaned & was covered in bug splatters and the vehicle had small dents and large scratches all over it. When I complained, they said to tell the person at the gate. That person just filled out a different form & nothing else so we just had a crappy dirty car for a week. When I complained to customer service afterward, their only response was that I had been charged the correct amount. I will go out of my way to tell everyone I know to always avoid hertz. A week later I rented from Avis & got a great car for a good price and after the rental I got an email days later offering a free upgrade on my next rental. I rented a car at Raleigh/Durham and returned it with a full tank, having filled up less than 2 miles from the airport. They charged me for more than a gallon of gas (at more than $10/gallon) and wouldn't respond when I questioned the charge. Luckily my credit card refunded the overcharge. I used to get miles with Hertz but no longer do so I'm certainly not going to use them again! read more

Went about our business and later found out they actually charged us an additional $500. called hertz customer service about it and was told there was nothing they could do and that we would get the $700 back 5 to 7 days after we returned the rental. Booked at car for one day. The car was returned it on time; the associate saw me return the car at noon, and waved at me as I waited for my Lyft to pick. me up. Noon was both the scheduled time for return and also the time the office closes. Because staff was quick to leave the office, they did not close my rental agreement out which cause an automatic $100 fee posted on my credit card the following morning, AND THEN AGAIN, another $100 fee 2 days later. I had already put a $200 deposit down, and no an additional $200 on my credit card and I was told by customer service $100 will be added daily until the rental agreement is closed by local staff. If I returned the car on time, by noon, why exactly am I getting daily charges? Additionally, to call someone is another ordeal. No local number, no options on menu to discuss bill, 3-5 business days if you go to website. When bypassed to get to a customer service rep, after being on hold a while, the associate explained the charges and "there nothing she could do" but email the local office. I said these "unexpected and incorrect charges f*ck with people's financial lives" and she threatened to end the conversation, scolding me for using the f-word. Note: I was NOT cursing her out or being rude in tone to her. I said assertively this is "Messing"/F*ing with people's lives...and so let's focus on the use of F-word instead. All this does is gaslights that my words and tone, both not placed as an attack or spoken with anger, as the problem here. 3-5 business days as they continue to rack up more charges daily?? Customer service and systems like this are nightmare because they are created to create more tension...and yes, F*ck with people's financial lives. Lesson learned, I will not rent from Hertz again. This is actually a zero star review. I prepaid for a Tesla Model Y for my family's annual ski trip through Denver to Beaver Creek. Upon arrival at the rental car center I was told to enter the office to inquire about my rental. I had a hint of an issue because I usual go from the bus directly to my rental car. The service rep explained that no Model Y were available and offered me a Polestar. He claimed that all of the Teslas were being charged. He also mentioned that a Polestar could be charged as easily as a Tesla. After I explained EV 101 to him. He called for the manager to come up and explain the problem. The manager came up and explained that the Teslas were all charged, but that they would need 30-minutes to do maintenance checks on the Teslas. I began writing this review one hour into the wait. I can't wait to get the return survey and to escalate this unacceptable performance. read more
