We flew into Denver from CA to visit family and then planned a vacay to Glenwood Springs. We had made a reservation with Avis in Northglenn months in advance and had an appointment to pick up the car. On our way to the Avis facility he received a call telling us that there was no car for us. I have no idea they "reserve" cars but then give the cars away. We got nowhere with Avis customer service so we drove the Hertz in Broomfield on a whim. AJ met us at the front desk and even though he was really busy, he listened to our story and went out of his way to help us get a vehicle at a reasonable price. He cleaned a truck, put a bed cover on it, and had us on our way in under a half hour. We could not have been more grateful for AJ taking a really bad experience that wasn't even his fault and finding a solution for us. read more

I originally rented a car from their Arvada location, but they didn't have the vehicle type I reserved so I was put in something else that I ended up hating. I called this location to see if I could do a swap and fortunately, they had the car I reserved on hand. The fact that they had the vehicle I reserved, it was clean, and readily available is the only reason I'm giving them 3 stars. read more

I needed to rent a car for the week and I was very impressed with this place. The location was a little weird in an older strip mall. I was a little worried about leaving my vehicle, but I was assured it would be fine. Arriving it was a very smooth process checking out the car. The guy working thanked me for being a Gold Member and upgraded me without even asking. Just pretended the car and just as smooth. Fantastic customer service. Jason Eckhardt checked us out and checked us in 7 days later. There is a local tax at the Denver airport so it's cheaper to rent off airport or in an area where you are visiting. In this case it was near Broomfield, Colorado. Another advantage is you won't experience a long line or have trouble finding your rental car. The convenience and individualized service of a smaller off airport location is unsurpassed. If our kids can't pick us up when we visit for some reason, I'll take an Uber from the airport to rent from Jason. On a long term rental you will definitely save money. read more

Never again will I rent with Hertz. Had to use hertz last week. The car that i was in, the check engine light came on. I called 7, yes, 7 different times to get another rental. Was promised several times that I would get a call back. Never got a call back. I did the survey after the rental and requested a call back. it has been a week, and still no call back. I picked up a rental-- it was dirty (some kind greasy cleaner smeared all over the odometer), had a blown audio speaker and wires coming out of the dash under the break pedals. I returned the car and exchanged it for another car. I was then charged a $400 cleaning fee. With no explanation. I was charged more than $700 for a week after I was inconvenienced an had to return a dirty and unsafe vehicle. read more

This place is an absolute racket. Never rent, or even return your car here. They come up with exorbitant fees if your car is not spotless upon return. I was charged $300 for some hair left over from my service animal which they claim was excessive but I have never been charged from any other agency and I rent cars about every other week. $300 to clean some pet hair is an absolute scam, it would have taken 5-10 minutes at most to clear it out with a vacuum. I can't imagine what other schemes they have going on at this business. Save yourself hassle and money and do not come here. Trust me. read more

Awful. Twice I have attempted to rent from this location. Twice I have had problems getting the vehicle I requested using the online reservation system (and getting a confirmation). Attempted to rent a Suburban (or similar) and was given something smaller both times. The first time I "got" to drive to Arvada to get the vehicle size I needed. The second time I was told that I was simply out of luck as no other vehicles of similar size were available. Sorry. Can't do anything about it. If you are planning a trip and you need a particular vehicle size, don't bother with this location. read more

I think they stole my credit card info. I received a fraud alert from Chase shortly after renting a car at this Hertz location. There were several fraudulent charges in addition to the one they flagged. I suspect Hertz because they actually had me swipe my credit card versus use the chip. I can't think of anywhere that swipes anymore. I know that is a common way that criminals steal credit cards. I can't prove it but I'm highly suspicious. I was really impressed and a little shocked by how smooth the process went for me to get a rental car. I recently was in an auto accident, and the whole situation has been stressful, but when it came to getting my rental it couldn't have been easier. I called before hand to make sure of what I needed, I stopped in after work, right before they closed, and Jeff had me in and out in under 5 minutes. We went to the Thornton location because it was next to our mechanic but when we entered the staff acted like it was news to them they rented cars there. We showed them our reservation and confirmation email that was sent stating their location had the car. Once again a perturbed look of we don't have cars here. Then the explanation for the email came ( wait for it ) that just says there is a car somewhere in Colorado. They kindly gave us phone numbers for other Hertz locations so we could Easter egg hunt the car we rented. We called and Doug and Miguel they were AMAZING. They actually knew they rent cars. Miguel was so helpful and made up for his idiot co-workers in the Thornton location. Go the extra miles to Doug and Miguel because they go the extra mile for the customer. read more

I rented a vehicle from Hertz at the Des Moines airport. The daily rate for 3 days was 38.31 plus fees. Total of 142.00. I had a family emergency while I was there visiting. My mother fell, broke her femur that required surgery. I needed to stay longer so I changed my flight for two days later at no charge. I called the Hertz line to extend my car for an additional two days. My bill ended up being a total of 406.13. So I paid an additional 264.13 for two more days. I asked why. Was told I then had to pay the weekly rate. 5 days is a week. WOW! Not impressed. Won't rent there again. Always used Dollar in the past, will continue in the future. Lisa W. read more

I reserved the car before I came from MA. They really followed on my request to clean/disinfect the car at least a few hours beforehand since I have chemical allergies. The car was clean, well aired, no residue of any chemical smells. The even bigger surprise was that they gave me a better and bigger car than what I originally reserved. I was very happy with the service they provided and the product: the rental car. (Both staff members were very polite and helpful.) Also, their price was lower than the prices offered by other rental places I researched ..... I was very satisfied with the place so I am surprised at the reviews here. read more

If I could give this location negative stars I would!! Their lack of customer service skills is mind blowing. I made a reservation with them online nowhere does it list a closing time different then what was posted on the front door, on Apple/Google maps or the website! So needless to say we arrived 15min after they decided to close at 5pm instead of 5:30. Came back the next day to get my rental again and was advised my bank card is not a suitable form of payment, went back to my hotel for my other cards and now I'm advised I need 2 forms of picture ID.....I received the run around at this place and they did it on purpose!!! My sister came from Florida and we were going up to Strawberry Springs and needed an SUV with 4 wheel drive. When we came to pick up her standing reservation that was made a little over a week ago comma the reservation had been messed up and there was no substitute. So essentially we were going to have to cancel our trip. When we asked for the guys manager he said that he was the manager and refused to give us his regional managers name. He was completely rude and started yelling at us and all the while his Zipper was undone and he was flashing us. Needless to say the last thing we told him was that his fly was down. We walked out ended up renting a 2017 Suburban at Enterprise for the same price as a 2012 Ford Explorer from Hertz. Do not go here. Unless you want to have to have a backup plan when they screw over your reservation. read more

I've rented from Hertz almost exclusively for several years, however my experience with the local location on W. 120th in Broomfield may have changed that. After my car went in for unexpected repairs, I made a rental reservation online for this location, got confirmation of the reservation, so thought I was set. My neighbor dropped me off and the plan was to get the car and go to scheduled appointments. Broomfield, 120th Street location. I wish I had read the reviews prior to making my reservation. The worst! Do not rent a car from this place. They are awful! Upon arrival, the door is locked and the office is empty (yes, I did have an appointment). When the man finally came, he seemed surprised I was there (yes, I did have an appointment/reservation). He then asked me if I called their number or the main number (like it was my fault they weren't prepared because I called the wrong number, but YES, I did call them directly). He then informed me they didn't have a car for me (acted like it was my fault because they had me down for 0900, I arrived at 0810, I told them my car drop off was between 07-09 when I made the reservation, but told him I'd come back at 0900 if that worked better. He said he still would not have a car for me (yes, I did make a reservation). He did have a mini van and acted like I was wrong for not accepting that. I did not order a mini van and did not want a mini van. If the company was not able to provide the service requested, the company should call the customer and inform them prior to their arrival. He did not apologize and acted as if I was wrong for 1. arriving on time 2. calling the corporate number (oh, wait I did not do that, what is their excuse now??) and 3. not being happy to drive a car I did not want and do not believe is safe. Reserved a car through them at about 3 PM, for a 5 PM pick-up. Called at about 5:10 and said I'd be running a bit late and might be there about 2-3 minutes after they close. They proceeded to tell me that not only did they not have any of the kind of car I reserved, but that the only vehicle they had was an SUV and would cost $300 more than what I had initially been quoted ($185). The guy on the phone was barely apologetic and said "well, it was last minute..." - if it's last minute and you don't have the car, maybe it might be a good idea to call the customer to let them know? Had I showed up at 5:30 without calling, I wouldn't have had a car and I would have wasted the money on an Uber. I had less than 30 minutes to find another car as I was without a vehicle and rental places were closing for the night. Luckily the Enterprise Rent-A-Car nearby had a vehicle and were quite a bit nicer about the whole ordeal. read more

Literally the worst customer service experience I have ever had! I walked into Hertz a half hour early and the representative didnt even acknowledge me or besides saying how behind they are and how they cant do anything until they catch up. An half hour after my appt they called me up from waiting and again just kept saying they are so behind. Asked for my ID and to swipe my card. I asked "how much are you charging it for?" To confirm that it matches what I agreed to online. He said he can't tell me that I just have to swipe it. I was blown away that they expect you to swipe your card without knowing what for. He said we cant move forward with the rental until I swipe my card. So i gave in and i swiped my card. He said "oh if you are using a debit card we have to run a credit check" I asked why? I wasnt told that or disclosed that before, since I didnt want to risk a credit ding on an already sketchy experience I used a credit card. Having to quickly change my payment plan otherwise I couldnt get the rental. He said that the charge was $396.00 which is $200.43 MORE than what I was quoted! I double checked my email from Orbitz that says $195.57 due at pick up! I asked why it was more. He said because there is a $200 security deposit which was never told to me or disclosed to me, it wasnt mentioned in the original scheduling or on the pick up information email from Hertz. Again he says we cant move forward if you dont pay for this. I give in, I didnt have an option to leave I had been dropped off there to pick up my rental, a regularly seamless experience. I agreed to be charged $195.57 more than originally quoted. They said wait outside for your cat but that it is still being cleaned because they are so far behind. An hour later, I get my car that was just rinsed off. I looked inside and all four interior doors are scratched, I told the guy, he didnt take pictures of it even though he took pictures of the outside. Then the guy handed me an iPhone and said sign here, I said "what is this for?" He said I just need you to sign this before leaving with the car. The only thing on the screen said I AGREE and a place to sign. I said "what am I agreeing to?" He said so that you can take the car. To this day I have no idea what I agreed to. Never have I been so informed by people entrusted to ensure me that the service I'm being provided is what I want or what I asked for. The inside of the car was filthy. I just put up with it and didnt complain. My personal car that was in the shop was fixed sooner than I thought so I wanted to return the rental car. I found out at 6:30 at night. I wanted to see how that works. If I return it would I get a credit for the days I didnt use it? The store was closed with no 24 hour service line. I called the only one in Colorado that was open and they said that if I returned it the only way I would get my money back is if I buy it! Which is insanity! I dont want to buy the car! I just want to return it! I decided to wait until early next morning. I called and asked the same question. They said that if I returned it I would be charged the daily rate of $75 /day instead of the original $32/day that I originally agreed to. So now I basically had to pay for two more days because I wanted to return it early, which means that Hertz can use it again to scam other people out of their money. It makes absolutely no sense and again I was never told or disclosed that if I returned it early that the daily rate would change. They said that that is how their company works and that I cant do anything about it. I promptly returned the car in the same condition I received it in with a full tank of gas and was charged for four days of use when i only had it for 2 days. Never ever will I use Hertz rentals ever again! read more

I was told rental fees on a base model Hyundai elantra were $32 per day, but was charged $174.99 for 3 days. Apparently it is an addittional $22 per day for basic coverage. A common theme at this location is "sorry we are short staffed". The car I received was vacuumed but not washed, and I received the car on a partial tank(3/8). I returned the vehicle with over 3/4 of a tank and the employee attempted to charge me for returning the vehicle without a full tank. I feel this location needs to keep more employees on staff, and better train their current employees. read more

Absolutely terrible experience. The manager Stefan does not care about the safety of their customers. The car we had asked for was an economy, which was fine. But the cars defroster is not made for Colorado weather! Had to literally scrape ice off the inside of the car. For it also being an economy car, the gas mileage was terrible! Only got 24mpg with a Nissan Versa. We expressed our concerns to Jeff once we returned it and he showed no care in the world. Will not be using hertz ever again for renting cars. The new young man behind the counter very friendly but still in training. He had went back 2 x's to get his manager for help as I waited. She keeps telling him she will be there then I hear the phone ring and she answers it never coming to the front to help the new employee so I could be on my way. After a half an hour of waiting for her to come up front I left advising if they really want there $12.00 they know where to find me. Very rude on the managers part that she cold not come to the front and help a customer standing in the store. Plus answering another call knowing I was standing there. Beware. Then they didn't have the car we reserved, and charged us for an upgrade, plus charged us double on our credit card from what they told us they were charging. I was in an accident that was the other drivers fault and their insurance company was to pay for my rental. I was informed by Diane at hertz that I can send her my insurance information/declarations page and she would take care of everything with the other drivers insurance . That never happened and when I picked up the rental the guy at the desk Fred told me the same thing. So I emailed my declarations page to them both . When I Dropped off the car they told me I would be charged $270 and I said no wait the other insurance company Is to cover The rental. Eric the supposed mgr. told me if I didn't hear back from him by the end of the day to consider everything done and closed. Two months later I was charged the 270 and now Being told that there's nothing they can do about it and now I have to get reimbursed from the other guys insurance company when it was clearly their fault!!! What a mess !!! I have to wait 7 to 10 days to get my money back. So frustrated!! read more

I always rent cars thru Enterprise but was referred to Hertz by State Farm after an accident. My insurance covers $16/day and I was told I would have to pay 79 cents out of pocket each day to cover taxes which I agreed to. They neglected to tell me that I should register the car on my toll account and twice we forgot we didn't have the transponder and ended up being charged for tolls. That would have been okay but the company they use to process the tolls charged an additional $25 service fee so I ended up with $42 in charges! When I complained, the only response I received was "it's in the contract you signed". I was told by an E470 toll employee that rental companies are supposed to tell you about registering when you get the car. I also found they continued to place holds for a total of $69 on my credit card AFTER the car was returned! After talking to them several times, I finally ended up calling my credit card company and they removed the holds! Needless to say I will be going back to Enterprise should I ever need to rent a car again - the great deal Hertz supposedly provides to State Farm customers ended up costing me more than I saved! read more
