My mom insisted we get an AWD before traveling to Tahoe which is not an easy task as most car companies cannot guarantee one. Hertz was the only place that guaranteed one (though exact model unknown), so we went to El Sobrante. Though the wrong car was delivered by accident and we had to wait a few more hours to get an AWD, Rodena and Roz were great and we were compensated for the inconvenience. I would rec'd this place again for the customer service alone. I think the inconvenience was a fluke and we were just happy to get a car for our Xmas trip to the snow. Came in on a busy Monday. So busy that I waited over an hour to get into my pre reserved rental. After waiting over an hour I had to wait another added 30 minutes for "car to get clean and ready". Ridiculous amount of wait time. The lady up front named Roz is super nice and friendly but she had no help. My rental was needed due to my car being in shop due to car accident. My injuries make it hard to stand and wait for so long. This location needs more help. Next time will ask for Enterprise instead of Hertz. read more

I reserved an SUV for a road trip down south and was pleasantly surprised with the service of this Hertz in El Sobrante. I had low expectations given negative experiences that I've had at the other non-airport Hertz in the area. Admittedly traumatized by that experience, I checked out their inventory the day before my reservation and realized that I had been sleeping on this location hidden in plain sight. I am no stranger to the area but had no idea this was here. They had what I needed, and then some, so I can't complain. The only reason I'm giving 4 and not 5 stars is that there was no acknowledgement of my gold status and the free one-car-class-upgrades so don't know if it was overlooked or inventory was unavailable. My uneasiness, though, stems from the fact that I was indeed upgraded but realized after I was already committed that the upgrade that I had selected an upgrade that was at an unexpected cost to me. Nevertheless, the staff here was friendly enough that I will be back and next time simply do a better job of advocating for myself and ask questions, I suggest you do the same. read more

Joné was amazing! After dropping off my rental she drove me to pickup my car at the auto body shop (it wasn't ready). She waited with me, allowing me to sit in her car for as long as I needed, since it was raining. While we waited she gave me her experience and much appreciated insight on my future purchase car list. Wow, I'm actually considering a Chevy Blazer after our talk. Roz is always awesome. She's the lady that's always at the counter, running from car to car, all business and a die hard Warriors fan! She makes me laugh and makes me feel taken care of every time I come here. I went here to rent a car and wow!!! It took forever! Over two hours. They didn't like the card that I brought and I had to talk them into charging the card that I had. I have never had to talk someone into taking my money. It was exhausting. I'm a AAA member, didn't matter. I have been with my credit union for over 20 years and that didn't matter. They would take my husband's card, but he's not a drive so that was an issue. I will never, ever set foot in the place again. So why did they get two stars? Well, I eventually got to rent a car and drive away with it. The outcome benefited them, even though I lost a few months off of my life. I was able to go on my vacation to the hot springs, that she remain unnamed (you can see my post about them) in a car that was very reliable. And that was worth two stars. We rented a Tesla from this location and we used the Pre Pay method where you get a better rate if you pay up front. DO NOT pre pay. The car was not available and they couldn't guarantee the time, so the reservation was meaningless. They had one Tesla available but Uber drivers get priority so they gave it to the Uber driver. We decided to go with a gas car BUT we were LOCKED into the price we had paid. Whatever you do, DO NOT pre pay for your rental. We should have paid attention to all the one star reviews. They work with you as best they can for it being a smaller location. There's always a wait at any rental car company. I had a better experience here than at a certain rental shop I hilltop drive by walmart so much so I tell friends to go here now too. The car I rented was decent. They charge extra 13.50 per day for any additional driver even domestic partner as well as 30 extra per day to upgrade to a toyota camry from intermediate car that I initially booked - only option was a red car. Ended up with an $888 bill for 10 day toyota camry with no coverage ( I used my own) Upon returning vehicle no one in office waited 20 minutes to drop off . I reserved a mid size gas car back in November 2023 and when I arrived, the counter person said all they had were ev or Tesla. Headed toward Las Vegas, I didn't want the anxiety looking for charging stations I refused. They said when I reserved a car, a gasoline car was not a guarantee. But so happen, they upgraded me to a larger vehicle for a slight discount. I wasn't happy because I was pressed for time. Well, making a long story short, from now on, I'm avoiding Hertz. Rented a vehicle through State Farm. First car I got worked fine expect the Forward collision sensor messed up. Swapped me into a Chey Trax which is not a SUV but charged me SUV rates the AC/ Heater did not work nor did it pick up any speed, was not cleaned trash all over the car and smelled like cigarettes and the passenger seat had a burn mark. Third car was a 300Sport messed up rims ants and trash on the inside and again smelled terrible. Customer service from the store was 0/10 was treated like someone who doesn't know about cars and was a rude experience. Absolutely nauseating experience with the unholy marriage of Hertz and Uber, both of which seem to have some seriously egregious business practices. The problem is partially that they practically refuse to work together, supply each other information for the customer's benefit like what even are the terms of the insurance, is the vehicle that was reserved even available, etc. A simple pamphlet would do but no, it's like pulling teeth or squeezing water from a stone. The way they do business here is totally criminal and unprofessional anyway. They will take your card, payment, and signature before cooperating enough to even tell you how much you're paying or what's on the contract, because what's on the contract is extremely abbreviated, on paper sheets smaller than packing labels, and it doesn't even match what was in the reservation. Yes, they don't care that the listing they made in Uber's vehicle marketplace is false, and by the way, Uber doesn't care either. There's enough legalese on the page for it to be permitted. Hertz employees here tell you to just look at the reservation if you want info before coming in, but if you actually examine anything on the reservation, they don't want you to care about what's expected of them at the time of rental. Before you know it, you're paying twice as much per month on a car rental as you are your lovely Bay Area rent, because the insurance costs as much as the car per week. Complete sharks here, or just half-competent salespeople but you know it's probably the former. Oh, they also didn't document that the car they leased me is missing an emergency item. I was sent here by AAA while my car was in the shop being fixed. They have phenomenal service when your car rental here is arranged and covered by AAA. The clerks we have gotten have always been friendly, professional, and informative. AAA has some kind of partnership with Hertz where they do all the paperwork between themselves and the customer can literally drive away with a car hassle-free. The process was seamless, efficient, and convenient. Hertz gave us a new, clean, very nice sedan with some of the latest in hi-tech accessories. The car rates were good enough to be totally covered by my AAA policy. They even offer a lift home after you return the car. Again, Hertz gave us great service (because of the partnership with AAA??) but don't know if you would have as good of an experience as we did if you're renting on your own. read more

They took good care of my insurance needs. Got side swiped and AAA sent me to the nearest location and they were helpful during the process. A long wait to pick up the rental due to them only having two people work the counter but the wait wasn't unbearable. They let me pick a car to my liking (within my insurance budget of course) and I was on my way. The car was clean and gas on full. I opted out of their gas policy and decided to fill up before returning the car. I was pressed for time so I called to ensure I can drop it off at closing and I made it 5 min before they locked the doors. read more

Over years of business travel, I have found rental companies and their fleets interchangeable, and the service comparable. This location is nothing like that. It's not worth your time to even read this. Just. Don't. Come. Here. I came because of my insurance company was providing rental replacements while my car was in the shop. Now I have to shlep out to the airport and try to get an exchange. No way is the airport branch going to be able to rent this stinking wreck. Ugh. I needed to rent a car after my dealer decided to keep my car longer than I wanted to be without. The dealer set up the reservation at Hertz Rent a Car and I headed over after work. When I walked in the door, there were a few customers hovering, so I expected to wait; but was helped right away. I was put in a brand new Ford Fiesta right away and was on my way. The car was clean and brand new with less than 200 miles on it. I was so surprised that the entire transaction literally took 5 minutes. On the way back, I simply dropped the keys off and was followed out to check the odometer and gas and I was done. Renting a car should not be a painful experience and for that - I am a fan of Hertz and will go there the next time I need to rent a car. read more

The star I'm giving is for Jason and Mary. The rest of the experience doesn't deserve a star. AAA arranged the rental for me since my car had to get fixed. They called Lyft to pick me up from my house, which was nice. I got to the location and there were a couple people waiting in line. Service was very slow. Jason was the one who assisted me which gave me an awesome service. The rental he gave me was the exact same car I drive. Same color, year, and model, which I thought was cool. I got in the car and realized it smelled really bad. It smelled like weed and stinky old person's perfume. I thought it would go away after a couple hours or so. I even put my own car freshener and waited till the next day, maybe it would go away, but it still smells horrible. I called Hertz and spoke to Mary, which has been awesome since the beginning. She told me to come to the location to exchange it. Here I am now, been in line for more than 35 minutes, with one clerk and 6 people behind me, and 3 in front of me. Horrible. Hoping the exchange will be easy and the car will be better. We'll see. Update: I've been here for 53 minutes. I'm supposed to be next in line, but the clerk, Roz, let 2 people from the back who are returning get to her desk first without even telling me or the others behind me. I went to Hertz because they had decent pricing compared to other car rentals and I like the fact you can "pay ahead". They had a Lyft come pick me up, I actually like this idea because I had no one to drop me off. When I got to the location, I noticed there was only 1 person attending customers. I thought it wouldn't be long but I was wrong. I waited for an HOUR to pick up my car and on top of that, some lady cut in line!!! Roz who was attending didn't even say a THING which irked me the most. By the time I got to the counter I was FUMING. I finally got my car, but I had to cancel some plans due to the long wait. OH and there was another employee but all she was doing was ordering Lyft rides for people. What's up with that? Why didn't she come out to help? The return of the car was a bit easier however there's still a "flood" of people who come in and some of them try to cut you in line, just keep your place and speak up.
