I travel once or every other month outside the state. My car is very small. I always get the car I want at this location. If I am not happy with the car they gladly take it and give me a better one. I did have to wait a few minutes while Andrew, the branch manager, finished up a previous transaction, but for my patience he upgraded the small SUV I had reserved to a larger one, allowing my family more room during our road trip. Literally the worst - don't rent here. We usually use Hertz in Chicago, Washington Street location, but they didn't have any rentals available, so we travelled up to Evanston. They are THE WORST. When we arrived, they didn't have a car available, despite making a reservation. The store employees were bitching about how bad Hertz is, and when they called the fleet/branch manager, they got berated & yelled at on the phone loud enough for the customers to hear him through the phone. After an hour of sitting there waiting for a car, they rented us a sedan (we booked an suv) for a whopping $10 less. When we returned the car, they tried charging us for a "pet odor fee" when we didn't even have a pet in the car! Literal bs. After 2 hours on the line with hertz billing, they finally agreed to refund the "pet odor fee", plus an extra $50 for the undue stress. This place is disgusting, the branch manager should be fired for abusing his employees & the employees should take a class in professionalism & refrain from lying to get fees charged to undeserving customers. I will NEVER step foot in this location again, and will be extremely cautious with using ANY hertz location in the future. Just the absolute WORST. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Zero stars. read more

A few months ago I contacted the 800 number for a car rental. I called a few days later to this location to request an upgrade and to assure that they would have a mid size SUV available. My pick up time was for today at 2:30. I received a phone call later the around 2:00 only to be told that they didn't have a car available for me. This is the 2nd time this has happened to me at this location. The guy I spoke Matt was very rude did nothing to even try to accommodate my reservations. He only said he had other customers he had to take care of. I said to him if you don't have any car available what are you taking care of! Just tell them like you are saying to me, 'you don't have any cars available at this time'! I really needed the car that day as I have to drive to SpringfieId to attend SIU Commencement. I am so not happy with the service that I am receiving from this location. I've been using the location for the pass 15 years and prior to that day I used their location on Dempster. Since the manager Ransford has left this location it has gone to the dogs. The reason for Ransford's departure is he was promoted and that is a good thing. They really need to get new managers that knows what they are doing. Otherwise, this location will close and the employees will be without employment. I suggest that Matt be the first one to loose his job. I am not a selfish person and don't want to see anyone that wants to work to be out of a job. ZERO STARS The general manager Ken Rogers is the absolute WORST MOST MISERABLE EMPLOYEE I HAVE EVER WITNESSED OR DONE BUSINESS WITH. I had a reservation for 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 30th, 2022. I arrived at 11:37 a.m. there were four people inside the location. Two people had been serviced and were waiting for vehicles, one person needed paperwork, and the fourth person in line ahead of me was waiting on a reservation. At 12 :47 p.m., I signed my rental contract. I was informed that the vehicle would be ready in about 20 minutes. This was after Ken Rogers had spent 20 to 30 minutes trying to figure out which car he was going to rent me. At approximately 1:30 p.m. I called customer service because it was taking exorbitantly long for this process to be completed. At 2:00 p.m. can looked at me like he had never seen me before and asked me how he could help me. I told him I was waiting for the car that I had signed for. I showed him the rental agreement that was in my email. He looked at me and said I don't know where that car is. No one had been in the location and no one had left. IT WAS 2:00 PM and I told Ken I needed to be out of there in the next 30 minutes. Ken then spent the next 40 minutes or so preparing a vehicle for me... However, at approximately 2:45 when it was time for me to sign for the vehicle, he tells me that the vehicle has been sold. He then said it was because I had stepped away from the office where 6 other people were waiting and I was trying not to be any louder, ruder, or belligerent than I had already been. I had stepped out momentarily to speak on the phone because my fiance was worried that the transaction had already taken 3 hours!! In the span of less than 2 minutes, the car went from being rentable to being SOLD!! I ASKED KEN WHY THIS PROCESS IS TAKING SO LONG AND HE ASKED ME "where were you?".that's why this is taking so long. I was right here... I'VE BEEN HERE FOR 4 HOURS!!! Every customer in this place right now came in AFTER me and they can all tell you where I was and where I have been!! It took another 40 minutes to figure out "where a car was"... Cars are being washed and prepped that need oil changes. Telling customers that cars are there that aren't there. Worst of all is just outrightblyingnronpeople, wasting time, and pretending to be dumber than Forrest Gump. The employees literally look like they haven't showered in weeks and are rude and slow. They don't bother washing your car until you are there to pick it up-That's only if the guy washing cars has finished his 10th cigarette. Expect to wait at least an hour to do anything here! Insane Incompetence. It is astounding that this place is still in business. I was there yesterday to pick up a car that I reserved and already paid for. So were three other people. We all arrived one after another, and we were all told the same thing. None of our cars were there waiting for us, even though all of us had prepaid! Instead all of us were offered a Tesla. None of us wanted a Tesla. They had no other cars available, just a parking lot full of 11 Teslas. The first person was told he could have a car, but it was on it's was from another location. I was told that another car was due to be there within 30 minutes, it just had to have a windshield wiper replaced. The older gentleman behind me was told they had nothing for him and the regional manager, Eric or Ken. There were two men working there I don't remember who was Eric or Ken. But the regional manager told the gentleman all he could do was call their 1 800 number and try to get another car at another site. The regional manager dialed the number for the ma then refused, REFUSED to talk to the person on the 1 800 call to help the man. The man ended up leaving for another location with no guarantee the car he needed would be there. As I waited for my car to come in with its new wiper, a young college student came in and was told the same thing. That even though her family reserved and paid for her rental, it wasn't there. The regional manager did the same with her. He dialed the 1 800 number and left the office. The first person's car showed up but there were issues with it and he couldn't leave. I was told that my car was now having its tires replaced and would be at least 2 more hours. The college student was still talking over her options with the 1 800 office, offering her no real solutions. At this point, I canceled my reservation, got a full refund and left. After posting this, I look forward to the obligatory form letter the owner of this location posts that will begin with. "Hi, Ronald. We're extremely sorry to read about your experience at our Green Bay HLE Hertz Car Rental location..." This owner obviously doesn't care or something other than platitudes would be done about it. read more

I've never had this happen to me before and I had to use the car to take a family member to get a medical procedure, as I live in the city and don't have a car. There were 10 cars in the lot and there were 4 people after me who got cars. So, not only am I out of a car, but I am out $20 because I had to take a taxi back to my house. Is this how you run a company? I've never been more disappointed in a company in my life; we agreed to a social contract: I give you $ and you give me a car. This specific location is responsible for the worst customer experience I have ever encountered from any business in my lifetime. In short, I would strongly advise anyone considering this particular Hertz to look elsewhere. The details: I rented a car, for which you have to give your credit card info before renting the car of course. We did that, but somehow these guys lost my cc info or didn't enter it properly. In any case, my girlfriend dropped the car off and didn't have my credit card when they informed her they had lost the info. They were very perplexed, apparently it is not supposed to be possible to rent the car without verifying the cc info is saved. Thinking this was not a big deal, she got me on the phone and I was ready to give them the info again, to which the customer service rep replied that he couldn't take the info over the phone, it had to be in person. I was at work and couldn't get there anytime soon. He proceeded to make my girlfriend wait in the office for 2 hours while he tried to contact his manager and figure out what to do. Finally, he apparently felt bad and told her to write her contact info on a post-it note and they would call her back once they figured out what to do (apparently it's this hard to figure out how to take credit card info that HERTZ LOST - keep in mind this was their mistake in the first place). Several weeks go by and we haven't heard from Hertz, until I check the mail one day and they have SENT ME TO COLLECTIONS, for a mistake that they made and failed to correct. Apparently they thought it would be easier not to have to deal with this issue themselves. I of course paid the collection agency, but this is completely unacceptable behavior from a business in my opinion - pushing off THEIR RESPONSIBILITY on a customer in a way that could have damaged my credit. Fortunately this didn't show up on my latest credit report, but this lazy and unprofessional behavior from Hertz could have caused a lot more damage. It was $131. I have, in return, filed a complaint with the BBB, and I would suggest that anyone reading this DO NOT TAKE A CHANCE with such a poorly managed business. You may cause yourself a lot more headache than you bargained for. read more

I don't know if this is a franchise or not, but their competanance (or rather lack of) is ridiculous. State Farm made a reservation for me; when I got here to pick up the car they did not have the mid size SUV that was reserved. Only sedans. The clerk couldn't be bothered to locate one at a different Hertz facility until after State Farm called and asked him to do so. I made a reservation for a pickup truck at the Evanston location on October 24th with a pick up date on November 17th. More than 3 weeks in advance. At first I had difficulty getting information through the app and online. I tried calling but couldn't get through to a person. So one day I stopped into the Hertz office and got the card of Andrew the branch manager. He initially seemed helpful. However, I later wanted to make a change on the reservation timing. He said to call the morning of the reservation and see if I could pick up the vehicle earlier. So I called at about 8:30 on the day of my reservation. They said not only could I not pick up the vehicle, but that they didn't have a truck for me at all. I asked what they could do. They offered me a Tesla which was not helpful at all given that I needed a truck to transport some cargo. Then I asked if they could provide a SUV or van that might work. The answer was no. They couldn't help me at all. They couldn't arrange a pick up from another Hertz location. The offered no apology, no explanation, and generally no customer service. I didn't know what to say. I have never experienced such a lack of service or even the illusion that they cared. I canceled the reservation. Zero out of Five stars. I do not recommend counting on Hertz or this location for any of your travel needs. read more

Remember, this is the same company that called in bogus reports of multiple car thefts in various states prompting police to arrest and jail innocent car rentals that did nothing wrong. I rented a vehicle from the Evanston, IL location in July 2023. I had a reservation, arrived 15 minutes early to pick up the car and had to wait in line. I had a reservation, but it was apparent Hertz employees chose to interact and accomodate Caucasian and Asian men (who did NOT have reservations) renting high end cars while ignoring me (a woman of color) for nearly 2 hours while I waited for and questioned the status of a vehicle. After returning the vehicle, I contacted Herz to file a complaint. No complaint was ever filed. They pretend to take your information to open a complaint, but do NOTHING. I wrote the coroporate office twice requesting a full refund. I got a partial refund from Hertz and a thinly veiled threat from Hertz telling me not to contact their coroporate office. read more

I made a reservation two months prior for a midsize car to be picked up today on June 2. I called to let them know I was on my way and I was running a little bit late for my pick up appointment and he said no problem. When we arrived, the waiting room was filled with people, and there was only one employee named Andrew, who was moving at a snails pace. He was extremely unapologetic for the long wait and had horrible customer service. We ended up waiting there for an hour and 45 minutes to find out that he didn't have a car left and available for us. We are livid! I will never rent a car from this agency nor should anyone else. Luckily, I made a phone call to Avis on Chicago Avenue in Evanston and Bob had a car available for me, took me right in and got me right out within 10 minutes in such a polite and efficient manner! Stay away from this horrible place of business that could care less about their customers! Oh and btw, Andrew was wearing the most disgusting filthy dirty disposable mask that looked like he had been wearing it for months and he kept touching it and touching his face and his nose and then his paperwork and then the keys. We've rented cars from Hertz before, which is why this has two stars versus one, and had no issues. This time... not so much. Upon pre-paying and renting an SUV, we found that they gave us a dinky SUV without four wheel drive (WHAT?) which is the whole reason why we get SUVs to rent! On top of it, we've never had this issue before, but there was no toll scanner. So, we had to inconveniently stop at every tollway which made the trek worse. On the plus side, our car had XM radio that they forget to disconnect? When my boyfriend got the car, the representative asked HIM to do his own walk around. Never have we ever experienced this; we always have a representative helping us to ensure there is no damage. While the rep was somewhat friendly, they seemed to be super overwhelmed. On top of this, we got into a car accident. Now what I'm going to say isn't really this Hertz' fault, but rather a company-wide thing... but man, when you get into an accident, it's the most confusing thing. Their website states ABC and you do ABC, but then it states you have to do CAB or BCA. When we turned the car in they had us fill out ANOTHER form. The representatives were nice during this process, so I give props to them - thank you for being nice! Another reason for a star. Will we rent from Hertz again? Probably not. Do I fully blame this Hertz location? Not particularly. Shocking- another 1 star review. I wish I had read them first. I reserved a car on line for my daughter with MY credit card and HER as the driver. 1st- they call to say they are "sorry they have no cars" one hour before she is to pick it up and had to arrange a ride to get there. 2- they say the'll call me back in an hour and don't. 3- I had to call them. Then was told they don't have the car I had reserved, but would upgrade it and it was ready to pick up. Daughter already missed her ride there. Had to Uber to get there.($$) 4- She gets there and the lady won't give her the car unless she has a credit card (which she doesn't- why I reserved it for her) (Keep in mind that it was reserved with me as the payer and her as the driver) I offer to give them my credit card over the phone and they refuse. I offer to fax it with a copy of my driver's license and they state they don't have a fax machine. I offer to email it and again the refuse. 5- I ask for the area managers name. "Gabriel (something)" I ask her to spell the last name, and she starts with "K as in cat". So seriously they hire people with less than a 3rd grade spelling comprehension. She then states she has not phone number for him. 6-They so far have had me on hold (now for 1/2 hour. My daughter is still there watching the lady ignore the fact that I am on hold) She is now stuck there. No one will help her. Total BS and I would NEVER rent from this location. I am a Hertz gold card member for 15+ years. This is TOTAL BS. 7- Her friend has to come "rescue her" and offers to put the charge hold on her credit card. But they insist she pay an "extra driver" fee- even though she was the original driver on the original contract. 8- On the phone with Hertz Corporate who were useless as well. Beware! After being hit by a State Farm client, I was told by State Farm to go to this location to pick up a rental car. When picking up the car, the Hertz rep offered me insurance. I asked if State Farm covered it, and was told they cover $25 a day, so I picked one that was much less. I asked and verified multiple times that I would not be charged for anything. After returning the vehicle, I find a charge for $154 on my card. I had to call 3 times, was put on hold, and then was told by the manager that he would call me back - he never did. After calling again and finally catching him at a time that was convenient for him, I was told it was my fault, and I should have known better. Wow! So, beware! If you believe whatever lies they tell you at the Hertz counter, it's your own fault, apparently. I've spoken to the manager at Hertz, and the corporate office to no avail. They are more concerned with misleading customers to get more money than having repeat customers. I will never go to Hertz again. Booked a rental car through Priceline at this location. I took the Purple Line to Dempster and walked to 1326 Dodge Avenue to discover....nothing. There was an empty storefront at the far end of a strip mall with no signage. I called Priceline and discovered that this particular Hertz had moved to 1901 Green Bay Road. I walked to that new location from 1326 Dodge Avenue. (Note to Yelp, you might consider updating the address.) No apologies from either Priceline or Hertz. Very dissatisfied customer. I would recommend renting with either a different Hertz location or a different company such as Enterprise. read more
