Would give 0 stars if I could. The location has garbage customer service!!! Waited in line for 30 minutes and watched the service agent be rude and speak down to everyone in front of me. When it was my turn, I found out there were no cars available for rental at this location nor the location nearby. I did not get an email notifying me that they were overbooked. They do not pay attention to their online rental portal and should have turned off reservations for the day. On top of that I had to call customer service myself to cancel my order. Customer Service is not great and I was met with attitude when asking for understanding. The car had a sticker stating it had been inspected but had a "maintenance required" label upon starting it. I was assured that the vehicle was fine and that this was "the lingo" for Toyota but I was driving a long distance and did not want to take the risk. I should not have to question whether a rental is in good condition and this should have been explained upon giving the rental. When I was given the vehicle, the service attendant did not take the time to walk through the car with me and just handed me the keys and pointed to where the vehicle was. I went to check out the vehicle and if I had any questions(which I did) they were already out the door. I did make a reservation for 6pm not realizing that they also closed at that time. Renting a vehicle at the time should not be an option if that is the case. I would have booked earlier had I known. Calling me an hour before pickup when I have already planned within my schedule for this is also not helpful. I was delayed getting there due to traffic(still made it before 6pm)--that however does NOT mean I should be met with rude and unwelcoming "service". That same attendant was there for drop-off and did not even look in my direction even though I greeted both attendants politely. I do NOT leave reviews. We usually do not usually leave any reviews but this time we could not let that pass. Our experience with this AVIS rental location was TERRIBLE and we want you to AVOID renting from this place! We have booked a car and waited for 1 hour just to pick it up. Once we got the car, it was absolutely disgusting: the car was smelling smoke and alcohol badly, the mats were full of sand and dirt, the trunk was full of salt, and there was dirt all over the dashboard. We found a box of cookies and fries under our seat....The guy at the front desk, who was really RUDE and unprofessional, rushed us to take the keys and sign the contract without giving us the time to check the inside and outside of the car. We also found out the transponder for the toll roads was not working and we got charged for it, we are waiting to get reimbursed. When we called the rental location, they suggested us to clean the car ourselves and that we would get a refund for the cleaning. This is unacceptable, especially during COVID times. Additionally, we were asked to do curb side pick-up for COVID reasons while the workers themselves were going in and out from the rental location without any masks. When we returned the car, the same rude guy (tall guy with glasses) tried to charge us for the non working transponder and continued to be unprofessional and rude. This is our go to car rental spot. They try very hard to accommodate. When I book on line, I usually try to do it 48 hours in advance, as once I booked on line same day , and on my way there the guy called to tell me there was no car available at that location, which I considered very good personalized service. read more

Not only did they give me a car that was a car class level below what I had reserved because they said they "didn't have any other cars" it also didn't have a toll pass so I had to use the manual lanes on the toll way which increased my travel time and frustration level significantly. When I returned the car they didn't have the customer service to get me an Uber home which is a standard at Hertz. I suggest you go a few blocks north to Hertz on Green Bay. Despite the AVIS title for this Yelp page, I've used the Budget car rental services at this location. I don't think it actually makes a difference. There's 3 regular staff members at this location, and though they vary in friendliness, they're all professional, courteous, and get you on your way promptly. The cars I've booked have always been available, and they were clean and worked without any problems. This location also allows car returns outside of their business hours (there's a dropbox for the keys). read more

Booked a nonrefundable car online. When I arrived to pick it up, they informed me that they did not have any cars of the type I booked and I would have to get an upgrade. Unlike all other rental car companies that I have ever booked with, they charged me for the upgrade which added more than $100 to my rental. They said if I chose not to do the upgrade, I would walk away from the full rental that I had already paid for. Have filed a complaint with the BBB. read more

This is THE WORST car rental place ever! I wouldn't rent a tricycle from this place. They would probably be out of tricycles anyway. They did the ole bait and switch on me and quoted me a price on an economy car. When I got there, of course they didn't have any more cars and they tried renting me some giant truck for more money. I use this Avis a lot for work travel, have used them over a dozen times and it has always been great. Really friendly staff and a very easy pick up / drop off, I'm not sure why others are confused about this, there are spaces marked on the street in front where you pull over. They store the cars in a private garage behind the office. read more

Yuk. Just picked up a car from this Avis location to take my extended family on vacation. The office is grubby with cardboard boxes everywhere. Check in was efficient but when they pulled the car up front that's when it all went wrong. The outside of the car was filthy. It looked like they hadn't bothered to clean it; dead bugs all over the front grill and mud near the tires. The inside of the car looked like it hadn't seen a wipe down in months; dirty fingerprints all over the windows, an ACTUAL spider web on the inside of the rear door, and interior glass with remnants of what someone had written on the glass in chalk. When I mentioned to the staff that the car looked a bit grubby, the man who had driven it to the curb simply shrugged and handed me the paperwork. I now have to take extra time to go to another location and exchange this disgusting car for something cleaner. Will NEVER rent from this location again. read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. My partners and I have made two reservations there and BOTH times they have been out of cars. As in, the reservation meant nothing to them. Once they sent us to Skokie and the other time they sent my boyfriend to O'hare. Not cool, Avis. Not cool at all. read more

I've rented and/or dropped off a car here a few times now, and when there aren't any other customers already being helped or in line ahead of you, they're fine. Friendly enough, get their stuff done. But if there's anyone ahead of you, expect to wait 15 minutes for them to finish up, especially on days where it's just one person working... they have to leave the building, go to the parking garage around the corner, get the car and pull it around. It's just too much for one person to do, but of course I'm sure they're completely dead for the whole middle of the day so additional staffing wouldn't make sense. Unless you have a lot of time on your hands, go with the Enterprise on Maple or the Hertz on Green Bay - at least their cars are on-site. read more

If I could give 0 starts I would. Rented from Midway airport. The most horrific car rental experience of my life, and I am 61 years old! Avis preferred member...went upstairs to pick up my car and there were NO CARS for ANYONE! How can you take car reservations and NOT HAVE ANY CARS AVAILABLE. I was a lucky one and had to wait ONLY 1.5 hours for my car. 1.5 hours...are they insane??? Customers behind me had an even longer wait. One person working the desk...using her walkie talkie to request each rental individually, then WAIT for a response if they had such a car, then WAIT again for the car to arrive. I will NEVER rent from Avis again after this experience....so many choices from other rental car companies who actually have cars to rent. read more

Very difficult to find the lot where you're supposed to leave the car. When I picked up my rental, the guy gave me the least helpful instructions. While picking up was smooth, I drove around for 20 minutes in the dark trying to find the lot. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. I reserved a car through Hotwire at this location. I arrived to pick up the car and there was one guy there who told me they had no cars and said, "The company knows about it. You need to call this number to see if they can find you a car at another Budget Rental." He hands me a flier with an 800 number on it. I called and spoke to someone at a foreign call center who informed me I could get another car at a location in Lincolnwood. I have no car, no way to get to the Lincolnwood location and the guy at the center could only say, "Sorry." As I left the building. Unbelievable. Never again. read more

This was absolutely THE WORST experience with car rentals i've ever had, having rented cars periodically for a decade. I received a call 45 minutes before my rental time (at 2:15 pm for my 3pm rental) informing me that no cars were available and so my reservation was cancelled. This was just a few days before Christmas when i had plans to go home to see my family (something I'm only able to do twice a year). The agent I spoke with was unapologetic and unhelpful - he would only offer the Avis corporate number to make a new reservation. However, he couldn't guarantee anyone would have a car and they would not honor the original price if i did find something new with another Avis location. I called the corporate number for Avis and they could not help me get a new reservation, either. They only ended up directing me to call the O'Hare Avis location where no one picked up and so i ended up in a loop of being redirected back to the corporate number. I ended up having to take the bus home instead of driving and it completely derailed the whole holiday. I will never book with Avis again and would STRONGLY caution anyone against using them in the future. If i could give this review 0 stars, i absolutely would. read more

If you make a reservation ahead of time, don't expect your car to be there when you arrive. I had a family emergency and made a reservation. When I showed up at 945a for my 10a reservation, I was told they didn't have any cars and didn't know when they were getting more. The manager then proceeded to tell me that I could commute out to O'Hare to see if they had any. He then followed that up with "they have 500 reservations and only 200 cars. If they release any, it won't be until 2 or 3." So i asked if there were other locations that had cars. He said no, except for a location downtown. I asked if they could provide a drop off service like Enterprise does and he said no. I asked if they could bring the car north because I wouldn't be traveling in that direction. He said "no way, no how." I then told him that it was ridiculous and there is a reason I made a reservation and showed up on time. He sat down on a pile of boxes and said "oh I agree.' Wait, what?! You agree that this is bad, but you are not doing anything about it. He said he requested cars and was waiting on them and that's all he could do. I asked why he couldn't have called his reservations. He said there were just too many to call. At that statement, I am at a loss. He had zero cars to rent, but he couldn't find the time to call those with reservations. HE WAS SITTING ON A PILE OF BOXES HAVING CASUAL CONVERSATION WITH OTHER EMPLOYEES!!! I left Avis after agreeing that I would be that first person on the list to be called when I car arrived. He said he expected a couple drop offs around 11, but couldn't guarantee it. He said he would call either way because he knew I needed to leave ASAP. Don't get me wrong, at this point I wanted to go to another rental agency, but there weren't any cars available that were relatively close. If there were, I would have jumped ship in a second. Well, it's now 4 hours later. No phone call. On top of that, they have turned their phone off and it goes straight to the corporate Avis customer service. I've been calling for 3 hours and no change. This location on stays in business because he knows that he can max out rental capacity and it does not matter if other customers get screwed. It's not the first time I've showed up there for a reservation and nothing was available. Now I know that wasn't a fluke. He is a terrible manager. He never even apologized. I am reporting them to the BBB as well as the corporate Avis office. I am now going 30 minutes the opposite direction to rent a car that is $200 more than what I had booked it for because that man and his branch is incompetent. read more

This May I made a reservation for avis through hotwire. Despite a confirmation, the car was not available. Neither Avis, hotwire or the local provider helped us get the vehicle, the quote was also not honored. As it was we were leaving with our whole family to go to Police Memorial Week in DC following the death of my step son. We ended up driving out to O'Hare and renting a car for twice what we were quoted. No one showed any concern for our situation and the spot we were in due to their incompetence. I made a formal complaint and today spent 30 minutes trying to get through to customer service to see what the status was. Needless to say I do NOT recommend Avis. read more

Avis/Budget car rental - same company... Customer service has gone to the seventh level of Dante's Inferno. Made a reservation for a car several days ahead and when I got there no cars were available. I was told they were waiting for a fleet of cars, not sure how long, perhaps two hours. I waited two hours, and they couldn't say exactly when they would get the cars. Major headache! How is this any way to run a business? I understand other Avis locations in the entire Chicago area (except the airport) had the same problem. The owner of the location would not help solve the problem. Told me to call customer service, customer service directed me to the owner... no one wanted the responsibility. Other customers had the same problem. I went to Enterprise, where I always go to and never had a problem so far. I DO NOT recommend this company at all. read more
