It's been a while since I needed to rent a car in my hometown area but this past weekend, I found myself needed a larger vehicle to help the girlfriend move. Everything around seemed quite pricey but I got really lucky with Hertz! In fact, they saved the day with an incredible offer.. a giant Dodge sprinter van for only $100 for three days. I was actually able to extend it for only $50 more for nearly an entire week! While all the cars out there on the road during the snowstorm were slipping and sliding, or getting stuck, this bad boy cruised through with no issue whatsoever! The van is super new too... the radar cruise control, the apple car play, the reverse cam and even the dual left/right blind spot mirrors all added up to quite the amazing driving experience. I had an extremely disappointing experience with Hertz, and I would not recommend this location to anyone. The customer service was poor from start to finish. I had multiple reservations that were not accommodated, and when I tried calling the location for nearly two hours, no one answered the phone despite multiple attempts. When I went to the branch in person, the agent was rude and didn't even acknowledge me when I arrived. Even though I had a reservation, I was made to wait 45 minutes before being given a vehicle that had been sitting in the lot since I first got there. During my initial reservation, I was told that no vehicles were available. That information should have been communicated before I traveled to the location. Instead, I spent money on an Uber only to arrive and find out there was nothing available, wasting both my time and money. What made the experience even more frustrating was that no effort was made to accommodate the inconvenience or offer any solution. There was no apology, no communication, and no attempt to make things right. Overall, this was one of the worst rental experiences I've had. Poor communication, unprofessional customer service, and a complete lack of consideration for customers' time. This location has prompted me to switch to an enterprise rental due to multiple instances when the service was very poor. There is no customer service at this location, and they do not care. Beware! Beware! Beware! I wish I read the Yelp reviews prior to booking a reservation with this company. I wouldn't recommend anyone to use this car rental facility. I rented a car from this facility and returned it the next morning as it was unsafe. Empty alcohol bottles were found inside of the trunk of the car, the infotainment system of the car (screen) was frozen and the car was shaking uncontrollably when driving 55 MPH. Expressed my concerns to management and they were not willing to assist, despite mentioning that I would be traveling with my two young children. Manager, Sandra Pacheco needs training in customer service and professionalism. She is extremely rude and not in the position to manage anyone! Takes forever. Employees should at least say hello to you while they're helping other customers out. Felt as if I want even wanted in the store. After waiting about 2 hours past my pick up time, the car that I reserved online was no longer available but a similar car was made ready. Car smelt fresh and was in good condition. The customer service at this location is piss poor. When i picked up the rental that was scheduled by my insurance company i called to confirm pick up day and time for the following day. I was told what car was available and confirmed with a female staff I would be there at 8am the following day. Arriving the next day the car was available in the lot but I was told I could take another car instead and given a lecture of 'just bc a car is here doesn't mean its available' but at the same time being told you can't call ahead to reserve cars. The female staff that I spoke to was present that morning but kept privately speaking to the gentleman handling my checkout saying the car isn't ready. I asked how long the car would take to be ready he said 5 minutes. I said I'll wait and before i left the female staff reiterated with an attitude that just because a car is here doesn't mean it's available. She had the worst attitude and makes no sense and is just craving to talk down to someone. Mind you I spoke to her during day prior around closing time which is 5pm. Today during my pickup she had the same attitude and was withholding information about the charges associated with the rental that I would be responsible for. When I asked her a question about the details she said she doesn't know and stayed quiet scrolling through the computer for about 5-7 minutes with no eye contact as if she was looking into the matter. I asked her if she was still looking into it and she was very passive aggressive short monotone and disconnected as if she was heavily medicated. When i addressed her again she started to say that she stated the answer to my question already which she did not. I eventually had to wait about 30 minutes for the itemized receipt (probably only because my father came to ask her for it ..he was waiting in the car and not present when she was being short and ignoring my requests) that she was viewing which stated the reason for the charges that she said was not listed. I asked her what miscellaneous adjustments meant and she said the insurance company created that charge - which makes no sense because the rental company and insurance company are two totally different entities. I will never use this rental service location again or company. No customer service skills and this woman (about 5'6 black hair and thick black eyebrows pale white skin not sure if Spanish or not) acts as if she is unbothered and is being forced to work there. Completely disgusting attitude. She thinks because she is being 'calm' and acts like a corpse, she is being professional. She is not personable very passive aggressive and needs to be fired, another customer in there with me stated that she was handled the same way. After initially waiting for a response about the receipt - she gets up walks past me through the door, goes into the car and starts taking down the mileage as if I'm am a ghost and returns acting confused when I asked her did she not hear me talking to her when she ignored and walked out right past me mid sentence. She responded 'I am helping you I went inside the car to check the gas mileage' as if that had anything to do with my inquiry. And with a dead expression on her face. Totally disconnected and acting as if she was drugged out and totally in a incomprehensive state. After getting my receipt I looked at the desk and at her right ear and realized that she had a blue tooth on and i saw that her personal iphone had a call in progress with the speaker notification highlighted. This branch of Hertz is completely dysfunctional as well as unreachable, as the phone goes unanswered or is set to have the national answering board pick up most of the time, even during business hours. When you do rarely get the manager, Joseph, on the phone he either puts you on hold, claiming he is busy with a customer and then drops the call, makes excuses about the office being particularly busy as a reason for repeated failures to follow through on tasks despite calls to remind him over two weeks. He is indifferent to his customers needs. Stay away from this branch at all costs. I will NEVER use it again. Use the Hertz (Merrick HLE) branch on Merrick Road in Wantagh. Also, the car had the maintenance light on the vehicle, and the windshield wipers were horrible and completely unsafe to use- which I didn't know until I was already driving on the turnpike. Hi. This place is absolutely horrible. I rented a beat up car on an empty tank. I drove to the gas station the very first day and fill up the tank for nearly 70 dollars. I returned the car with a quarter of a tank. They charged me 261.92 and had the nerves to tell me that it was because I didn't return it with a full tank. I sent them proof of my statement that I put gas on the tank and they still haven't credited or return the money on my credit card. Joe the manager and Malcom are now avoiding my calls. I emailed Malcom now he just stop replying. They are horrible and extremely unprofessional. I would give them zero if I was able to. They don't deserve a star. Be careful with them. I entered the Hertz located at 235 W Sunrise Hwy, Freeport, NY 11520, to pick up a car. My pick up time was 0900 am, so I decided to show up early. I noticed an employee, Omar, sitting texting on his phone while another employee was taking a customer. After being processed, I was told my car was being cleaned; at that time Omar headed to the back. After about 15 minutes, I went outside to check on the car. I saw Omar vacuuming and I noticed that the car was very dirty on the outside, especially the front and back. Omar told me the car was ready and I asked him to wash, rinse the car because a bucket with soap, water and a brush was right in front of him. Omar told me to go to a free car wash and I informed him that I didn't have time. With an attitude, Omar said, " I got other cars to do" throughout my whole encounter with him. He rinsed the front with water and I had to ask him to put soap. He then rinsed the back with water, throw the brush in the bucket and walked off mumbling. I had to ask another employee to get Omar to come back and put soap on the back of the car. I picked up a rag and started whipping the dirt off the side mirrors of the car with the assistance of another employee. Finally, Omar came back and applied soap and brushed the dirt off the car. Afterwards, he got in another car, pulled up behind the car I was renting and began yelling at me, " move the car sir, I got other cars to do." It looked like the car brake was on as I am unfamiliar with my rental. I asked Omar were the car brake was and he said, " what the f!! Its in that area under the wheel." This was the most unpleasant car rental pick up experience, I ever had in my life. Dropped my car off at All-Hour Collision the morning of Sunday, January 3rd. It came as a surprise to me that the Hertz fella (Tony) would actually come and pick me up to get a rental while my car was in the shop. And not only did he pick me up, but he was there and waited for us to finish. Folks, he showed up early - when does that ever happen anymore? Tony, drove me over from All Hour to the Hertz location in Freeport. When I got there I realized that I had my wife's credit card, and not my own. To top it off we just got married and although she has changed her name on everything, this is one place where she had yet to. This was not Hertz's fault. Tony tried to talk to the manager, but they couldn't do it. I do not blame them for not being able to do this transaction in this day and age. So I was about to grab the next train and head home. Tony was not having any of this. Instead, he gave me a ride over to the Hertz in Wantagh - for those that don't know that is Freeport - Merrick - Bellmore - Wantagh, not exactly the next town over. When we arrived at the Wantagh Hertz, Tony spoke to the team there and hung around until he was certain that I was all set. The Wantagh guys took it from there, and I was out of there ten minutes later. I special thank you to Tony, for taking care of this situation in the best possible way, and going above and beyond. Well, if they don't like reviews like mine, they should practice proper customer service AND customer relations. This review is all as a result of $12.95, not the money, the principle. No one cared when this was happening, only after the fact. YOU'VE BEEN WARNED. This local, unscrupulous Hertz branch tried to run a property damage insurance scam on me. Many of their vehicles - including the one I rented from them while my vehicle was in the shop - have a number of dings and scratches on them. The agent that checked me out tried to do a quick glance-over inspection of the vehicle and tried to get me to me sign the rental agreement without noting the numerous marks, scratches and minor dents on the form. I refused to sign the form until these were all noted on my rental form. Sure enough, when I returned the vehicle (which was also filthy on the inside), a different agent was there ('Alan') who proceeded to inspect the vehicle with a fine-toothed comb. He spotted a minor paint discoloration on the vehicle (which was neither a dent nor a scratch) and rudely indicated that I was going to have to pay for it. I refused and noted that this was not even damage and that the numerous other forms of damage on the rental agreement were only on there because I insisted after the other agent tried to rush me out of there without marking anything. I then took pictures of the alleged "damage" and called my insurance company in front of him and made them aware that these crooks were trying to commit insurance fraud. Alan then got scared and called his supervisor who immediately rushed to the facility, looked at the vehicle and had Alan tell me (while I was still on the phone with my insurance company) 'not to worry about it, it was on them and that the person who initially checked me out would be disciplined'. But even this was done in a tone as if he was doing me a favor and not because I just called them out on their scam. I then demanded that he put in writing on my rental receipt that they confirmed there was nothing wrong - which he did (I have a copy of the receipt with Alan's written confirmation in case Hertz ever tries to deny this ever happened). In short, DO NOT RENT HERE or you will be scammed if you choose not to purchase the additional vehicle damage waiver (which you really don't need if you have your own car insurance because they cover this). read more
