No complaints. While my car was in the body shop from a fender bender, I got a rental from these guys through State Farm (the other driver's insurance). State Farm set up everything. All I had to do was to call this office and tell them that I was ready for the rental. I tried to set it up a couple of days ahead of time, but they said "Just call us when you're ready." I was skeptical, but when I called, they sent a Lyft to pick me up within ten minutes. There were three guys that afternoon and they seemed busy, so it took about fifteen minutes to hit the road. Not effortless but not painful at all. Drop-off took about ten minutes, plus a drive back to the body shop. The guy that I dealt with both times was cool to chat with. He was working by himself that second day--with another customer ahead of me and the phone ringing off the hook--but totally kept his good humor. Great customer service. Ryan promised that we can come back and switch back to a SUV on Saturday and said he will call us by 11AM. We did need a SUV on that Saturday. This is summer. There is a reason people need a SUV, right ? We waited for Ryan to call us, but nothing happened. We called him and he put us on hold for 20 minutes without saying anything about our reservation. We had to drive to the store to check what was going on. When my husband walked into the store, Ryan said I know why you are here. Then he left, leaving my husband waiting in the store. We had thought he was working on our case. However, after another 10 more minutes of wait, we were told by Ryan that they did not have the SUV at all that day. So, He was telling us he ignored us for 20 minutes on the phone and another 10 minutes in the store KNOWING they do not have the car we booked and promised by him to deliver on Saturday. How difficult it could be to tell us when we called you and save us a trip ? You guys wasted our entire Saturday morning ! We tried to complain to their branch manager Jamal. Great customer service! Corporate booked at this location, far Away from where I needed to be. I had no transportation from my hotel. I was 15 miles away. They told me to get there anyway I could and they will reimburse my account. I used Uber. I had a 45-minute ride to go 15 miles in rush hour. They kept their word. The car could have been cleaner. Considering the circumstances, I have no complaints. Hertz didn't have to do anything for me. It's the customer's responsibility to know where they're renting their car from. read more

My car was in the shop longer than anticipated...Hertz Rent-A-Car to save the day! I reserved a car online, went down to pick it up, and off I went. All I had to do was give some general information, my driver's license, and a credit card. Everything was fine and I had no problems except there was a minor smell of cigarette smoke in the vehicle, which, upon returning two days later, I let them know of, and they gave me a discount. They also offered to drive me back to my office just a few blocks away as I would not be picking up my car from the shop until later that afternoon. The customer service here is wonderful! I was initially a little hesitant of hidden fees or service charges, but everything matched up perfectly on my credit card statement. If I am ever in need of a rental car in the future, I will certainly be back to Hertz! They made the process so simple and stream-lined. read more

Just say NO. After placing a $200 hold on my account for a $25 rental they continued to add $100 holds every day until they got around to checking the car in!!!! No one could explain why they were added, and I had to call my bank to have them removed. Policy, smolicy. The manager, Justin, came by my old workplace and offered his card and contact information in case any of our customers needed a rental. Over the years, I've referred MANY of my customers to Justin at this Hertz location (and Larry at Auto Art for repairs). I love how Justin will come to pick you up (at your convenience) in a professional manner - he always has his hands at 9 and 3 too....a safe driver is a smart driver! I've rented from this Hertz location numerous times over the past few years. Once for a winter ski trip to Vail, another time when my motorcycle got totaled and I needed a rental, and a few other weekend road trips. They keep their cars cleaned well, and I'm a huge fan of their Hertz Gold program (even though it is a hassle trying to rack up and earn rewards through this program, it's better than nothing). Overall I feel like I've spent roughly two grand in car rentals through this location; and I've even moved to Chicago for the past 3 years, but I will continue coming to this Hertz location (when possible) just because I like their great service and manager. read more

My experience at the Glenview location was terrible, however the Hertz corporate office has offered me a $50 voucher upon future use.

I rented a car from hertz couple days ago. Instead of paying 63 dollar for rent they have charged me for 241 USD. I call to the Hertz office and asked them to explain what all this charges about, the guy on the phone told me that you smoke in the car and we charged you for cleaning fee. I said are you kidding me? I dont even smoke what are you talking about, he said well this what the car was smelling when you returned. The funny part of it that i never smoke. I called to him and asked to give my money back he said I am sorry that was for cleaning fee. And top of that he said i dont care do whatever you want to do. I am very pissed and ready to sued them. We rented a car from another Hertz location that was full of smoke and causing asthma problems for my kids. We rented the car for a one way cross country move and had to exchange it otherwise we would have ended up in the ER. Jasmine at the Glenview location was the only person anywhere at Hertz willing to help us. She went above and beyond to trade in a smokey car for a much better one. When I yelped the nearest Hertz location from me I noticed most of them had 1-2 stars. I should've stopped right here & went to Enterprise. I was sent to Hertz through an Insurance claim because I was involved in a car accident. I went to this Glenview location because it was close to me. I picked up my rental on a Saturday morning- the guy that was helping me (I want to kick myself for forgetting his name) asked me for my drivers license and a credit card to keep in file for a $50 deposit. He then went on asking if I wanted to add a protection plan. This guy NEVER mentioned any pricing for all protection plan they offer. Yes I should've asked but I feel like it should still be their job to tell customers. My fiancé didn't think I needed any protection plan since I would be just taking the car to work then home so we said we would get the basic one. This guy gave me my paperwork to sign and basically just told me it's just saying the usual stuff "we're giving you this car bring it back with the same amount of fuel, no smoking and not to take it to Mexico" this guy never showed any type of receipt to me at the time of service nor told me any amount that is being held which he mentioned earlier it was going to be $50 deposit. He gave me this envelope and said to keep it in the compartment unsafe I get pulled over. My fiancé and I left, went to get my rental which was a Mazda 3. I noticed a lot of scratches and dents on the car so I asked my fiancé shouldn't he be walking out with me to check off all the damages that are already on the car before I take it home so I don't get blamed for it. My fiancé went back to tell him but he claims it's already been noted and I thought ok...this car could've been sitting her for days and got some brand new dents and scratches to it but I let it go and left. The next day I checked my bank account and noticed Hertz had taken out $144. I couldn't call Hertz since their office was close so I had to wait until Monday. I called the location today to ask what the $144 was for and some lady Jasmin said its because I got the basic insurance so my deposit went higher. So I thought ok...this was NEVER mentioned to me at the store. She also added that "I would be getting back what is left of the amount of deposit upon returning the rental" and so I asked "what do you mean what is left on the deposit?" Her answer was basically they would be taking out $144 every week I have the car. I thought that is RIDICULOUS. I called Statefarm to have them switch me to Enterprise. I've never had this kind of service from Enterprise. All the frustration I got from that phone doesn't even end there. Mind you all this frustration started because this man that was helping me on Saturday failed to tell me getting a basic insurance would cost my deposit to go up to $144 which they are taking out of my account weekly which is ANOTHER thing he failed to mention. I had an hour and half before closing to get to Hertz to return my rental car and get to Enterprise to pick up a new rental. I really wanted nothing to do with Hertz and just wanted to return my rental car. Upon arrival I was greeted by a not so friendly looking woman which I assumed already knew who I was. She asked for the keys, went outside possibly to check the gas then went back inside. She handed me my receipt and said $60 will be charged to my account and I was like WHAT charging me $60 for what???? And she said for the basic insurance that I agreed to get. I told her I was never told I was going to be charged $60 for some basic plan! If I knew i never would've gotten it! I know from experience at Enterprise they offer some protection plan OR you don't have to at all. But Hertz didn't give me that option at ALL! On top of that they didn't even tell me the prices for the plans they offer. For all I know I probably didn't have to get a protection plan at all but this guy just made sure I get one. I will NEVER recommend or go back to Hertz ever again! I'm all about second chances but I feel like this location was not very caring or sorry at all. read more

I have rented numerous cars from a number of rental car companies, and this is the worst experience I have ever had. I booked the car on line, and was told Monday when it was time to pick up the car that the size car I wanted was not available. However, I could pay an additional $10 per day ($140 for a two week rental) for a larger car. I called the Hertz toll free number and rebooked this larger car for about $10 per week. Every time I have rented a car in the past, if the size was not available I was upgraded at no charge. And to top off the insult, when I went to the rental location, the manager Maksim tried to get me to rent an SUV for an additional $10 per day. Seems like a classical bait and switch scheme to me. Go to the Enterprise location less than a mile away if you need a rental car in Glenview. read more

Beware when you're renting from this location! They don't tell you that their cars are equipped with Plate Pass. I received a bill for tolls plus a $4.95/day charge. The gizmo apparently has to be turned off. I would have if I knew. I also have my own IPass and didn't need it. Hertz Customer Service is not helpful at all saying that they can't do anything about it because it is a 3rd party charge. How dare them give my info to a 3rd party without my knowing it! They even threatened to charge my credit card on record. I have been a Hertz No.1 Club member for 30+ years. I am considering never again renting from Hertz if this matter is not taken cared of. The best way to get even with lousy businesses is not to give them your money ever again and tell all your friends to stay away from them. read more

If I could give this company/location 0 stars, I would. The people who work here are rude, their booking system is flawed, and their cars are crap. In December I booked a small SUV online and showed up first thing in the morning (this location opens at 7:30 AM, already later in the day than I would wish to begin a 15 hour drive) to rent my car at this location, and drive the 1,000+ miles to Colorado. The man informed me that they didn't have any of the small SUVs. I explained that I'd reserved it online. It didn't matter. I asked if I could have an upgrade to one of the larger SUVs. Other Hertz locations have given free upgrades for no reason whatsoever, so why they would not be able to offer me a larger SUV at the small SUV price, since my reserved car was not there, is ridiculous. The man told me I'd have to pay for the upgrade. I said that I shouldn't have to pay extra since it is their company's booking system that is flawed. He told me to take it up with their customer service number. I'd have taken a smaller, less expensive car if I could have, but I was bringing a lot of stuff back to Colorado with me so this was not an option Despite wanting to leave ASAP (I needed to drive 15 hours that day!) I didn't want to pay the extra $300 because of Hertz's booking system issues. I waited a long time on the phone and no one could help me. They all said the same thing which makes no sense to me... YES, I had booked the small SUV online, but their online system doesn't take into account the location's inventory. NO, they wouldn't give me a free upgrade because my RESERVED car was not there. I guess I should have been able to look into the future and reserved online AND called. This is what the person on the phone AND the man at the counter told me, smugly. Who does that? No one would follow up with a phone call to a car rental location figuring that the RESERVATION they made was not actually reserving anything. I met TWO OTHER CUSTOMERS THAT HAD THE SAME EXPERIENCE that morning! They'd reserved cars online that they didn't have at the location. HERTZ IS RUNNING A BAIT AND SWITCH. You reserve a car for a certain price online, and then they switch the car (and therefore) price on you when you get to the locations and have no other options but to pay the higher price. They left me with absolutely no other options, I needed to get on the road, so I loaded up my giant, extra expensive, gas guzzling Chevy Tahoe to take it to Colorado. It was snowing, lightly and I tried to clean off the window by using the wiper fluid function of the car. Nothing sprayed out. I told the man inside the Hertz office and he told me he'd send someone out to fill the fluid. I had to wait 15 minutes for someone to put the fluid in. Still didn't work. I told the man at Hertz and he apathetically explained to me it was just because of the cold (It was like 10 below zero or something.) I stupidly believed him and set out. I was not even out of the parking lot when I noticed the tank was only 1/4 full. I got out of my car again to tell the man at Hertz. He told me ok they'd note it in my file. Not trusting this guy as far as I could throw him at this point, I asked that he write it down in my contract. He begrudgingly did. I FINALLY LEFT GLENVIEW, ABOUT 2 HOURS BEHIND SCHEDULE, PAYING 300-400$ MORE THAN MY RESERVED PRICE, IN A GAS GUZZLING CAR THAT WAS BROKEN AND UNSAFE FOR THE WEATHER THAT DAY. I drove the 1000 miles to Fort Collins, Colorado, in the snow, with a giant gas guzzling SUV with NO window washing function. Because of the dirt, salt, debris, etc. on the road, I had to stop at least every hour to wipe off the windows using the washer at the gas stations in order to be able to see the road. I'm 5'2". Have you seen how big a Chevy Tahoe is? Needless to say the window washing wasn't an easy thing to do, and I had jump and hurl myself on top of the car to wash the damn windshield. At one gas station a trucker mentioned putting some alcohol into the washer fluid, and said maybe it was frozen within the little pipe. I tried it. Again, didn't work. I have rented from Hertz MANY times, and never had issues like these. Even though the employees at other locations are much more pleasant, helpful, and understanding than the employees at this location, I WILL NEVER USE HERTZ AGAIN KNOWING WHAT THEIR "RESERVATION" POLICY IS LIKE. read more

I contacted the Illinois DMV to fax a statement verifying the validity . Needless to say i needed a name and fax number so I called Hertz to request the information the manager there pick up with the NASTIEST ATTITUDE EVER . His response began like this " A our fax machine is down and B I need a physical license. However, when I turned on the air conditioner one day later, whoops, didn't work. My wife and I were in the Chicagoland area for our wedding reception and we decided to drive back to New York (our home) in order to safely transport several delicate items. We were initially pleasantly surprised to obtain a brand new Buick from this Hertz dealer in Glenview Illinois. Our projected 13 hour trip was going along smoothly until around the 10th hour. We stopped briefly at a truck stop in Mill Hall, Pennsylvania. After a rest we went back to start the car and the motor would not turn over. We immediately called Hertz who told us that roadside assistance would help us. I was told by roadside assistance that a driver would be dispatched to assess the problem and arrive within an hour. I called the Hertz agent back and asked how I could expedite getting a car knowing that we already had 2 onsight gas station attendants confirm it wasn't a battery problem. I was told that if the car has to be towed than the nearest dealer was 2 1/2 hours south of us at Harrisburg airport. To my surprise my wife had been on the internet already looking for another Hertz and as I was receiving this information from the agent she let me know that there was actually another dealer just 45 minutes away. After sharing this information with the agent I was met by a stone wall. She insisted that the car had to be returned to the airport. When I explained that this would not only add an additional 5 hours to my trip but that my wife, who has medical issues, had already been on the road with me almost 10 hours straight and had to get back to New York, again there was no willingness to accommodate our request. After much back and forth they gave in with the support of roadside assistance and gave us a car at the closer location. Then they had the gall to charge us for that car! 19 hours later from the time we left Chicago we arrived in New York. I expected compensation for the disaster in the form of a full refund from the Glenview Hertz, since it was their car that broke down but when I phoned the Glenview location they were playing pass the buck and was unwilling to give us any help. Corporate Hertz gave us half our money back and told us it was up to the Glenview Hertz to provide the rest of the compensation. At the end of the day, we were very disappointed at the poor customer service. DO NOT GO HERE!! i rented a vehicle from them, i said my insurance company can only do max of $25/day and the guy gave me a car, and i asked to double check that it was going to be under $25/day after taxes and everything. He guaranteed me that it was under $25/day and that I wouldn't have to pay one cent. After returning the car, turns out my credit card was charged a fee. I called and asked why and he said because after taxes and fees it was over $25 per day and my insurance wasn't covering that. BEWARE!! THEY ARE A HUGE SCAM!!!!!! The customer service at this location was horrible! I don't recommend using Hertz, it looks like this is not the only bad one based on the reviews I read. Being in a car accident is bad enough, having a heartless Hertz rep tell me my issue is with the insurance company?! Seriously! They had been dealing with the insurance company on my behalf during the entire rental. Then charged my credit card almost $500.00! I received no notice, phone call, letter, nothing! They were wrong, and thankfully, State Farm will be reimbursing me for there error. How sad, someone else needs to clean up their mess! I will never use this company!! read more
