Started off fine. The car was fine. The pickup was smooth. My daughter joined us on the trip partway through and adding her as an aditional driver for $25/day plus fees was easy. However, she returned home sooner than expected. I went to the counter to try to modify the rental agreement to remove her and was told I needed to contact the corporate customer service desk via the telephone. I contacted them and fought my way through an awful AI answering service to speak with a human who told me I needed to goto the counter to complete this task. Typical corporate run around. Never got the situation resolved. Paid more than was needed. Did not receive good customer service. read more

Horrible experience. Like others, started off fine and fell apart quickly. Insurance rental. Manager did not give me the vehicle I booked, put me into a different car that was full of rotten food. Yogurt, salad, and the doors filled with food. The windshield wiper washers did not work. The car smelled and was filthy. Called back for a replacment and a truck as I booked, manager refused to say when she would do a swap and then hung up on me when I said I will just call corporate to complain. This is the worst rental car location I have ever been to. I should have looked at the reviews before hand, a 2 star rating that they have on Yelp is being nice. The manager clearly needs to find a new career, the place is terrible. read more

When I reserved a car from hertz in Groton ct, I was shown two cars in my price range. One of the cars smelled like smoke and the other was dirty, which the representatine aggred to as well. I asked for an upgrade and representative said there were no other cars available in my price range. I went down the road to Avis and was given a nicer and newer car for sixty dollars less. A week went by and today I looked at my credit card statement and found I was charged almost thirty dollars from Hertz when I didn`t rent a car there, The representative at Hertz ASSURED ME that there wasn`t a cancellation fee of any kind. I asked to make sure and his response was "YOU NEVER TOOK A CAR SO THERE WAS NO PENALTY OR A CHARGE. DO NOT USE HERTZ! read more

Horrible experience! Reservation and pre paid for an SUV, got to Hertz to pick up and there were no cars. Had to wait for "what" was being picked up from the airport. Lady working in the office said I have electrics. I didn't rent an electric nor would I have anywhere or the time to charge it. Finally got the one gas car they brought back. No explanation of the car, no observation with the company for previous damage, no explanation of hidden fees related to the plate pass/EZ Pass. When asked upon return was told it would be charged to my credit card. Went just Over 400 miles and was charged over $100, no receipt or explanation. When I inquired how to avoid not receiving the type of car I pre paid for I was told "the Hertx motto is if you have 4 wheels your good" very poor customer relations! Never again Hertz! I just downloaded Yelp for the first time just to write this review. Worst rental experience ever...and I travel a lot. 1. Smelled like it was heavily smoked in. I figured a few air fresheners, and drive with the windows down for a while, and it wouldn't be so bad when I left the next morning. I open the door the next morning and it was so bad that my nose and eyes were very much irritated. It was not just smoked in... pot heads apparently boxed it out smoking weed. Being Sunday, they were not open to trade it in. 2. Gas tank was half full. 3. Neither mirror was functional. 4. During this mandatory face mask time due to COVID-19...she was not wearing a mask even though we were both in her tini back office filling out an accident report. The irritation to my eyes and nose was so bad that I took an hour detour to a Hertz location at a small airport. They had none available, so let's just say that it was a horrible drive from Eastern CT to Norfolk, VA. If I could select negative stars, I would. read more

AVOID AT ALL COSTS. An absolutely horrible organization. It's is not the fault of this Hertz specifically but Hertz as a whole. Hertz made my reservation and guaranteed the type of car I needed. I got to this hertz location and the car was over 90 minutes late. Then when it arrived it was not the size I needed and I was informed that there were no cars of that size in the area. After 30+ minutes on the phone with headquarters I was told that if I give them my credit card number they can guarantee my reservation. ARE YOU KIDDING ME! If I could give this location zero stars, I would. First of all, I made the reservation through Expedia. After making it, and paying for it, I realized the time was a little later than necessary. So I called the location directly and explained my concerns. The woman on the phone was very understanding, and suggested, because they close at noon on Saturdays, that I come earlier. I asked her if 10:00 AM would work, and she said it would be perfect. Upon arriving at 10:00, the woman working had no knowledge of this, and refused to let us have it before set time. Frustrating, but ok. She then told us we had to pay a $500 security deposit. Now, we had already walked 5 miles to get to this Hertz, so had to walk another 2 miles to get to a bank to transfer money. Finally, at 11:45, she helped us, only to tell us my husbands credit score wasn't high enough. I made the reservation in my name, but because we used his debit card, the credit check had to be done through his name. His score wasn't high enough. So after $600, we had to Uber home. My children were waiting for me to pick them up so we could attend their father's funeral; which they subsequently had to miss (my car is in the shop; hence the rental). I will never use Hertz again, and would advise anyone from using this location. Absolutely horrible experience. read more

Extremely rude, dirty cars, worst Hertz I've gone to. I'm a presidents circle member with hertz and rarely have issues. This branch is ran by the owner Anne who is beyond rude. This Hertz goes against everything that you would expect at a Hertz. I would highly recommend driving the distance to another branch and avoid this or the Groton airport office (which Anne made it very clear she controls too) at all costs. read more

I wish there was an easier way to rent a car in New London after taking Amtrak. No cars in New London, you have to go to Groton, near the airport, about a 10-15 minute ride, either by cab (Hertz will compensate you for the fare) or Hertz sends someone to pick you up. The rental place is a tine trailer with a number of cars behind it. All the rental places usually ask plenty of questions, do you want insurance?, do you want ti fill up the gas tank? or..... None of that occurred. Added all the numbers and here are your keys. As it turns out, she forgot to compensate for the cab, added 2 extra hours. The rental place is in the middle of nowhere but not too hard to find. Got to be a better way. read more

I reserved a car online for 1:00 PM on Saturday on hertz.com. I got there 2 minutes late, nobody was there and the door was locked. They need to fix the online reservation system if the stores are closing at 1:00 PM on the dot, and I am not impressed at all with Hertz as a whole and think that the store needs to stay open a few extra minutes so people can get their reserved cars. read more

Rented a vehicle for a family vacation. Need room for 6 passengers and 4 suitcases. The trunk space holds 2 carryon size bags. The website describes the car as being able to hold 7 passengers 2 large suitcases and 2 small suitcases. When I mentioned the discrepancy in advertising the location acknowledged the discrepancy but said it is out of their control. Thats what the manufacturer describes not Hertz. Agent states all cars in this class full size recreational vehicle are all this size. In order to accomodate more baggage i would need a mini van or large suv and the rate is 300+ more. read more

Best service ever. The owners are the nicest people. I was renting a car because my car was stolen. I was sick and heading to the hospital. The owner had all my paperwork ready within minutes. She even called me days later to see how I was feeling. Best experience I have had in a long time. I will always use hertz because of them. read more

This was my 4th rental from this Hertz location in the course of 6 months. Service has been great, and Anne, the owner has been a great help. It has never taken more than 5 minutes from when I walk in the door until I am in the car and driving away. I have since signed up with Hertz Gold on their website; now I can reserve online so when I get to the rental location, the key and papers are handed to me when I step in the door and I am ready to go. I had a couple of times that I had special vehicle needs, and has always been able to set me up with just the right vehicle. read more
