To improve, they need to learn how to communicate, keep to the schedule, deliver their cars when promised and deliver clean cars. This place could easily be mistaken for Rent-a-Wreck. I spent 5 days on the phone trying to contact them to return a vehicle. When there were enroute to pick up this vehicle, two of the staff continued to shout over the phone at me. Ordered a car only to have them call me and telling me they had no cars available! WTF??

Worst service EVER. The service did not have the car ready to go, in spite of my online reservation and phone call follow up. It caused me to be late for a business meeting by 90 min. The next day, i requested for a vehicle change, but they bluntly said, "no we don't have any cars." My contract was for 58 days..., Today, on my 3rd day, the car suddenly had two flat tires on the left side of a vehicle. The car had to be towed and the driver took me back to the rental office. At first they said they didn't have any car, but when I wanted to get a better car at a competitor, they suddenly said they had one. It made me 4.5 hours late to work. And what kind of car was it? Small Ford escort with questionable transmission: the low gear would not shift automatically until almost 40 mph, then suddenly catapult into another gear..... read more

Has something changed? I've read these horrible reviews and feel compelled now to leave a review regarding my rental that ended at 5:00 this evening. I rented the car Friday and the experience was flawless. The car was freshly washed outside and spotless on the inside. The two gentlemen who helped me were very courteous and went above and beyond to ensure I was pleased before I left. When I returned the car this evening they asked if I would like them to call a Lyft driver to take me home. As other reviewers have stated, I was also apprehensive to rent a vehicle from this location given the negative reviews here and elsewhere (never been a fan of Hertz overall anyway). However, your options are limited in a town this size. Would I rent from Hertz again (this location included of course)? Um NO! Why not? I made a reservation for some kind of "truck" for 2 weeks (I know they all say "or similar," perhaps sir would like a turnip truck) about 2 months in advance and I get a call the day before my rental with some kind of song and dance about there are no trucks in the area and they have to give me something else. Ok... I guess they don't know how reservations are supposed to work. I reserved what I reserved for a purpose... When I explained my concern/frustration with the personnel at this location they gave me (empty) promises on how they could fix this. They would call me when trucks come back. HA as if... Never called. When I contacted Hertz corporate they didn't seem to care and referred me back to this location. Great customer service all around. NOT! In the end, the SUV I did get I made work for me and served the purpose I had in mind. read more

If I could do negative stars, I would. We rent cars at least 6 times a year for personal use. We will never rent from Hertz again. The service was the worst service That we have ever encountered. Additionally, an extra charge was charged without our knowledge or a final walk through. When addressed, they provided their billing number which was in India. We could not get a resolution at the location or with the billing number. The representative at the location was not truthful. Clearly, customer retention is not a priority. read more

Rented a car to travel to see family in FL August 2019... NEVER AGAIN. The only employee would wander loosely around the building and never was in his office until we hunted him down. Half the time, he would call us on our phone when he was on the premises. We didn't realize there was an extra fee for a driver for each day we wanted to rent, so, we said my husband would just do the driving. However, the employee did say you could drive a few days to help do the drive of 1800 miles but not sporadically. It either had to be the first few days or last 2 days of 2.5 week trip. He asked for my licence and he had me sign the agreement on his computer pad. We get the bill and we are charged $180 extra on our bill for the extra driver. Not, $13.50x3. I called Hertz in Las Cruces in October 2018, after seeing this and getting back on my feet after spraining my ankle a level 3 on that vacation on August 13th. I get the boss and explain to him about our huge over-charge and about the strange employee working for them. He apologizes and says there has been quite a few complaints about the male employee. He says not to worry and that he will credit us the extra driver - the 3 days. He said the credit should show up in 3 weeks and if not, to call back. We checked our credit statements today and see that Hertz never credited our bill. We called to the 1-800 number today, Dec. 1st, 2018 and they listened to the whole unfortunate mishap and says that, TAKE NOTE CUSTOMERS: Hertz can NEVER charge a daily driver, that they have to charge the extra driver for everyday you rent! However, they gave us a courtesy credit for $57 for our concern. I asked the Hertz 1-800 number if they even had the name and phone number of the owner of the Las Cruces Hertz business and they said they don't know it. read more

Wow! I can't believe the crap this company and particular location put me through. I wish there was an option for 0 stars. I planned a trip to California with my 16 year old for months. About a week before our trip I decided to rent a car instead of driving my own. I found a good deal online with Hertz if I prepaid. I typically go with Enterprise here in LC, but I was going to save $50 with Hertz, so I thought, eh, why not? I prepaid and, since I was saving money, went ahead and requested satellite radio. When I got to the location on June 23rd , there were 2 male customer service reps at the counter. Both were rude, as they seemed way too busy to help me, and they were clueless, completely stupid with no knowledge of good service. Jaime is the rep that "helped" me. We went through the paperwork and he asked for a deposit, as most rental cars do. He said it was $250 for the deposit (seems like a lot, Enterprise is only $150) and I didn't think I had the whole amount on my CC, so I used my debit card instead. AFTER he ran my card, the idiotic rep stated that they couldn't rent to me because my credit wasn't good enough?!?! He said that the company just recently changed their qualifications, and if you want to use a debit card to pay for anything, your credit has to be approved and then handed me a printout that stated the same. I just happen to have pretty decent credit and have never had to deal with this before. SO, I asked for my money back (knowing I'd have to wait 3-5 business days) and announced that I would take my business to Enterprise for life. Now, I understand that company's have policies. Hertz as a whole company needs to put better info on their online site or make it more apparent. They should also drop in on their locations more often and get rid of moronic employees like the 2 idiots they have there now. These guys didn't even know how to put the cancellation in, handed me a business card with a 1-800 number on it and said, "I think you can just call these people". Here's the real kicker, that was the 23rd of June, I called to request my money be returned that afternoon, it is now July 10 and I STILL DON'T HAVE MY MONEY BACK. I've had to file a dispute with my CC company and have them investigate it. Don't waste your time and money with Hertz, especially in Las Cruces. read more

I always had great service from this location, but very unhappy with my last rental. I picked up my vehicle and headed out of town in a bit of a rush. When I stopped for gas, I noticed some kind of animal hair in the vehicle. I was not happy with that, because I sometimes have allergic reactions to pet hair. When I received my final bill, I noticed that I was charged $50 for interior cleaning. I contacted the management and they indicated that they charged me to clean the pet hair from the vehicle. I assured the manager that I did not have an animal in the vehicle during my trip, and indicated that it was there prior to me picking up the car. He informed me that there was nothing he could do about it since the charge was already applied. LAST time I will rent from this company. I am a Hertz Gold Plus member, with a points balance ... and I still will not return to Hertz. I am furious that they charged my for something I did not do, and failed to contact me prior to assessing this fee. read more

If you need to rent a car in Las Cruces, NM, the Hertz at the Ramada Inn on University is definitely the place to go. We arrived there with a car rented in Las Vegas, NV that had left us stranded on the mountain and left a bad taste in our mouths. We arrived to stay the night at Ramada Inn just as the Hertz office was closing and the two gentlemen stayed after to check out our car. They told us to come down at 7:30 when they opened and they would put us in a new car. When I arrived the next morning, there was new guy there, Nate, but he had been informed of our problem and was ready to help us. They actually upgraded us free to put us in a great car for the remainder of our trip back to Los Angeles. Cannot say enough about how accommodating and caring they were. Terrible customer service. No wonder they have such a low rating. Be ware of the "pet charge" they try to tack on for very minimal dog hair. I mean, literally a dozen hairs. They lied about a sign in their lobby that explained the fee. When it was pointed out that there was no sign, they said they had just taken it down. ????? Lies. I called their corporate office who confirmed their lies. They wouldn't waive their fictitious fee until I was blue in the face yelling. Go to Enterprise where they all have college degrees and great customer service skills. 0 stars... this place is a rip off. I prepaid to get the best rate possible paid $76 from Fri to Sun. I then got Bill for almost double $133. I filled up the tank before I left it couldn't think why the extra $57 charge. I call Hertz they can't find my information after being on the phone for at least 30 minutes they tell me it was a cleaning fee!!! They charged almost $60 to vacuum a tiny Yaris!! I was furious I told them they are ripping people off. Had they told me before hand I would have ran to the car wash and cleaned it up for $5. Never again will I go to Hertz. Never. The car was lovely; the customer service was very poor. As of this moment, my boyfriend and I have been battling for 1 1/2 hours to turn in our car. Our cashier asked us to turn in our car the following day at the same location, but when we arrived, the location was closed. We came an hour early to turn in our rental. We called the customer service line to ask what had happened and how we should go about turning in the car. We were told a variety of conflicting solutions, transferred from department to department without warning or explanation, and finally told that our only options were to A) lock the keys in the car in the parking lot and have the car turned in the next day that way (and being incurred a lock-out charge for the privilege of turning in the car!) Option B) was to keep the car an extra day, be forced to pay late fees, and battle the company later for the charges (their words, not mine). read more

The gist: Never in the office, rude service, dirty car (inside and out), virtually impossible to contact by phone, had to hassle them to send me a receipt (which they never did send), and best of all a NON-FUNCTIONING air conditioner in 110 degree heat. Aweful experience! I made reservations with them a month ago for a full size SUV and when we went to pick it up they didn't have it. They told us they tried to call us the day before to let us know but we never got a call or a message. There was also a lady in back of me in line who was there to pick up a full size SUV also and had made her reservations 3 months prior and was also left without her car. The young man serving us apologized but didn't seem to care we were in a dilemma for our vacation. We asked him if there was any in El Paso and he said no. I didn't believe him so we called the airport location and sure enough they had one, he just didn't want to call and give himself extra work. Bad customer service and I had to drive all the way to El Paso only to pay double what my original reservation was since I booked it that day. Will never use the again. read more

I admit after reading this review I was hesitant to book a rental car from this site. When I arrived to pick up my car, I had to call them to let them know I was there. They had a sign posted about calling them because they were out cleaning cars. They came soon after I called them. They were courteous and helpful. Every business deserves another chance. I was in line with a lady who said that she rents from them all the time because the cars are clean. I plan on using them again when in Las Cruces. read more

I had relied on them for good service many times in the past, however all that has been negated by my most recent experience. About 24 hours before my scheduled pickup they called stating that there were no cars and that I needed to find other plans for my trip. They presented no alternatives (i.e. other care classes, other agencies, go to ELP, etc). THEY ARE NOT RELIABLE! Note to inconsiderate jerks at Hertz-Las Cruces: People plan their vacations for when their company gives them time off, not for whenever Hertz can supply cars. read more
