    We needed a car to rent for our May 3 to 9, 2023 trip to the Los Angeles area. Initially, I booked with Avis, but after learning that they do not allow for additional drivers under the age of twenty-five, I cancelled our reservation and went with Hertz. With our AAA memberships, I was able to add a second driver younger than twenty-five at no charge. The Hertz Rent A Car located at LGB is conveniently situated across the street from the airport, adjacent to the covered parking lot...and when I say across the street, the rental car lot is literally separated from the front of the airport by a street. No shuttle bus needed to drive you to a location that is blocks away. Seriously, this place is just a hop, skip, and jump, less than a five minute walk from the airport entrance. On the date of our return flight to leave, we were running a bit late and, again, the location of this place was super convenient. Love it! I do wish that they would still use the indoor space in the building next door, especially if it rains. Maybe they do? Aside from mistakenly going to the small building where all of the other car rental companies reside at first, checking in to pick up our rental was pretty easy. Service was also friendly and helpful. In fact, the customer care person who checked us in gave us a AAA discount on the refuel charges, which was nearly 50% off. Our return was just as smooth and easy, but much quicker, taking about five to seven minutes altogether. Our automobile was a fairly new dark gray Ford Explorer, four door. The SUV was clean, easy to drive, and issue-free. The navigation system wasn't the best, though. A great experience we had. We will likely be back if flying in at LGB and needing a car again.

    I went today (9/13/23) in the morning. Maria helped me and she was FANTASTIC!!! Explained everything in such a detailed and easy way. Besides excelling at her job, she was very charming. This is the first time I rented with Hertz at the LB airport and she left a WONDERFUL impression!!!! Highly recommended

    I booked a standard economy car as a President Circle member, and the rep at the counter notified me that there were no economy cars left. Due to the lack of availability on economy cars he then proceeded to "upgrade" me to a midsize car. Hertz repped then stated "we actually have a genesis special just for gold members" which I had opted for. At no point did Hertz mention it would be an additional fee for this, and to my surprise I was charged more for the actual upgrade than my initial rental rate ($78.80 for the rental, $90.34 for the upgrade). Avoiding this place next time.

    4 stars at this Long Beach airport Hertz location. I liked the simplistic walk to the kiosk but for Gold Members, you cannot pick your vehicle out of the lot and drive off. A staff member must check your ID, hand you your rental agreement, and point out which car you have been assigned in their small parking lot. He was friendly but not in a joking mood when asked about the weather. The return will be just as simple upon return.

Long Beach rental car facility is extremely convenient - just a walk across the street. The problem is that National is a joke at this location and really makes me want to go with another company because they really are that bad and inefficient at this location - every.single.time. I come here! On this trip today, I had a rental reservation for a full size elite. I was told they don't have that and ended up having to take a VW Atlas (or a convertible, which was way too small). The outdoor booth, which the app told me to go to when I arrived, was closed. Then I went and stood in the National line and was told that I need to get in the Enterprise line. Then I had to wait in a long combo line of Enterprise/National...what a joke this place is. It's so poorly managed and unorganized.

As an Emerald Club member, I had reserved an SUV, but it was not available when I arrived. I had either two choices--a large pickup truck or a compact. Neither one was appealing to me, but I took the truck. So I ended up spending a lot more on gas, but it was a pretty decent vehicle. I would have preferred the car that I reserved. Normally, whenever I return a rental car, the employees are right there, checking me out immediately. Here, on the weekends, there are no people, and you have to walk up to the main national desk. Not a big deal but just puzzled me. At this location, there appears to be zero value to the Emerald Club. On the other hand, they were very quick to send me an email confirmation when I returned truck.

A couple other staff leisurely strolled from the back after an hour but didn't appear to be assisting him in any way. I don't get it. I had a reservation and waiting 2 hours for a car is ridiculous!! Worst experience ever with Budget. Carlos seemed nice enough. He just needed help and cars. He stated they shared the fleet with Avis but there hadn't been anyone in Avis' line for quite awhile. Tension got high in the lobby because people were tired of waiting. Typically they walk out to the car and it is mutually inspected by you both when renting. Here they just send you out to where the vehicle is parked. It was a little confusing at first because there are multiple agencies with the same parking stall numbers. Since the Budget lot for available cars isn't clearly marked you don't know where their lot begins/ends. The car itself drove well and appeared clean. Return process: There was a lady sitting outside waiting for returns. Maybe that position could assist in the Rental process when not busy. I digress. Lol. After pulling in she gets in the car, checks the mileage and tells me they will email me a receipt. I requested one be printed. Of course we had to go inside for that (guess her handheld unit couldn't handle that function). She told me they wouldn't give me a receipt inside either. Wait what?! Once inside I observed she went to the Avis (vs Budget) counter. So I followed suit. You guessed it...no one was in line still at Avis so I approached the counter. The guy there says ok you're all set. I again requested a receipt. He stated it's in your email. So I pull up my email right there and there is a charge for over $65. He stated oh that will be corrected. Would you believe I had to ask him to correct it right then and send me a new email? Still no one in line so he's just chilling - doing nothing else. I believe he had his hands in his pockets. Lol. Begrudgingly (it appeared) he corrected the invoice and sent me a new email with a zero balance. Wow. Don't think I'll ever rent from this Budget/Avis location again. Sorry can't recommend at this time.

We encountered some difficulty with parking, and they simply observed and laughed without offering any assistance or guidance. When I exited the vehicle, I inquired with the lady about where to deposit the keys. She responded quite rudely, stating, "I'm right here, give me a second!" and then continued to laugh with her colleague. My partner, who was with me, also felt very uncomfortable with her demeanor. As we waited for her to conclude her conversation with her coworker, I felt a significant sense of unease and, despite not wanting her help, felt compelled to remain. Even when she was reviewing my invoice, her attitude remained very impolite, and I have never felt so uncomfortable. I regret not obtaining her name, but my primary desire was to depart due to the uncomfortable and unprofessional nature of the experience. Gave him my drivers license and credit card but he threw my credit card down in an aggressive manner. I've rented at Hertz, Dollar and Thriftys before and never had an issue with having an additional driver. My boyfriend and I live together and Cameron said "I don't know where you went, but I CHARGE for additional driver". I asked even if we're living in the same household? Cameron lied to us about not having cars available after telling us we would have to wait 30 mins for the van to be cleaned. More than 30 mins past, the van wasn't even cleaned. There were still stains, fries in the floor cracks and it had an odor. We got another car, and the car was dirty as well. The new car had crumbs, trash and dog hairs all over. Avoid Cameron at all cost, he's miserably rude.
