I travel weekly and use National exclusively, probably 40-50 rental days per year. I've been an "Executive" member for years. Long Beach rental car facility is extremely convenient - just a walk across the street. The problem is that National is a joke at this location and really makes me want to go with another company because they really are that bad and inefficient at this location - every.single.time. I come here! On this trip today, I had a rental reservation for a full size elite. I was told they don't have that and ended up having to take a VW Atlas (or a convertible, which was way too small). The outdoor booth, which the app told me to go to when I arrived, was closed. Then I went and stood in the National line and was told that I need to get in the Enterprise line. Then I had to wait in a long combo line of Enterprise/National...what a joke this place is. It's so poorly managed and unorganized. read more

I am puzzled by this location. Using National Car Rental at other locations, the service is quite a bit better. Here, since it's so small, there are very few employees. As an Emerald Club member, I had reserved an SUV, but it was not available when I arrived. I had either two choices--a large pickup truck or a compact. Neither one was appealing to me, but I took the truck. So I ended up spending a lot more on gas, but it was a pretty decent vehicle. I would have preferred the car that I reserved. Normally, whenever I return a rental car, the employees are right there, checking me out immediately. Here, on the weekends, there are no people, and you have to walk up to the main national desk. Not a big deal but just puzzled me. At this location, there appears to be zero value to the Emerald Club. On the other hand, they were very quick to send me an email confirmation when I returned truck. read more

I absolutely love how quick it always is to get my vehicle. I get there and they literally show me which lane of vehicles I have to choose from, pick one, get in, drive to the gate and leave! The last vehicle I chose ended up only having 11 miles on it so you can imagine the authentic NEW CAR SMELL!! It was a hybrid which I'd never driven before and LOVED IT!! Great customer service, and I love the short walk from the gate to the counter. No Emerald Executive Aisle, but you don't miss it. The cars are right beside the counter. Super quick and easy. The only problem is I cannot, for the life of me, get through to anyone by calling the local number. I left my makeup bag on the floor in the front passenger seat upon returning the car. My 15 year old just gifted it to me for my birthday, along with all of the makeup inside of it. The website lost and found process is not returning any results, but this location is so small and personal, I know that I could just speak to someone live, they would find it. I am so sad. There's also a fake diamond tennis bracelet in there my mother in law just gave me. I'm so sad. Please please return it. I will send you a prepaid FedEx packing label or UPS. Rental Cars. I am a power user of National Car rental and have recently switched to the Long Beach airport because I am hating LAX... The good thing about Long Beach airport is that you can walk a few yards to the car rental places - because it is such a small airport the corresponding car rental yards are on the small side. Being an Emerald club member I can normally just take a car but due to the small size of this location, you need to pop by the booth first where they hand you the keys and get you on your way- hardly any delay and they were super helpful and happy to see me. Got me wheels, and pointed in the right direction, off I went on my usual California business jaunts. Drop off was just as easy and a quick stroll puts you right into the terminal. This is the 2nd time I have rented here and they have been fantastic for getting me into my car quickly and wrapping up the rental process and getting me on my way when I return the vehicle. The cars are in great shape you usually have options in the class you rent and their staff is super friendly. It wasn't a bad experience, but it wasn't a great experience either. I'm an Emerald Club member and am used to going to the Emerald Aisle to pick out my car and be on my way pretty quick. I understand this is a smaller location, which is no big deal, but the offer the Virtual Aisle, which can be useful IF they have cars. I flew in on a Thursday morning, which should be day when they have some cars, but apparently someone messed up the night before and didn't bring any cars up to the stalls so there was nothing available immediately. I walked up to the booth around 7:25am and didn't get a car until around 8:00am, which is unfortunate because I was the only one waiting...I watched people from my flight renting from other agencies leaving in their cars within just a couple minutes of flying in and I won't lie, I was a little jealous. As far as the car, I got a Hyundai Sonata and it drove alright and I was glad it had Bluetooth available but I really hate Hyundai's and wish they didn't have so many. The smell weird and only have maybe 3 horses in the engine, which makes driving in LA fun... Overall, the experience was alright, not great...the staff wasn't overly apologetic for the wait, but I got a car that got me from point A to point B, which is all that really matters. read more

Rude, lazy service when I dropped off the car tonight. They think it's ok to let people stand around in their parking lot while one poor woman does the check out process and three of them sit and do nothing in the office. As soon as I started complaining and left the key on the counter the manager jumped up and started processing my drop off. I was so angry I just left. And telling me "there's a woman in the parking lot who can check you out" and then changing it later to "you have to go wait at that hut" are both inconsistent AND rude when you're the one at work not helping and just sitting on your ass!!!! read more

I don't get to pick any car on the lot and I don't even get to go to a car on the lot - I have to go to the booth first - a bit better then going to the office first, but I'm just not use to this sort of service from National. Though I did get a decent car - I did NOT get a 300, a Jeep, a Mustang, nor did I get the charger - I did get some sort of Nissan Altima - not bad, but not my type! Gas was filled up, car was clean and it was fairly easy to get out of the parking area - so long as you don't follow the signs! read more

After reserving and pre-paying for our car rental one month in advance, we showed up and National had run out of cars. The customer service agent said it would be a 30 minute wait for them to get additional cars. Fortunately it was only a 20 minute wait, but still.. come on National! I had an excellent experience renting a last minute car for a holiday weekend. I missed my plane because Jet Blue does not allow you to re-print your boarding pass within 30 minutes of boarding time. This bizarre rule meant that I needed to find alternate transportation to Vegas as the following flight was booked. My husband booked the vehicle online, applied a coupon and I was able to immediately pick up the vehicle minutes later with the assistance of Darrin and Erica. They went above and beyond to get me a great car that in the end was a great option allowed for me to get some calls done with the blue tooth phone connection and had great music with the Sirius stations! read more

We arrived late Xmas Eve, tired, cranky, and were greeted by a national team in good spirits who got us into an upgraded car and on our way in under 5 minutes. Emerald Club checkout is normally very easy, but is crazy easy at LGB. On our return, the check in was quick and friendly. I've tried them all, but always come back to National. I honestly hate this location. I'm not an elitist that wears their loyalty status on their sleeves but I almost think they punish Executive Emerald members on purpose. The manager is extremely confrontational and rude; and the employees just end up walking her shameful path. As others have said, you can't pick your own car (no emerald isle), they rarely have the car type you reserve, basically first come first serve, so coming at the end of the evening renders barebones during busy times of the year. read more

Beware. This place sucks. They will charge you for damage even though you didn't cause it.

Customer service is bad and i think it's because they deal with travelers often. Very difficult and uneasy to work with.

I've used this location several times with many more to come. Easy to get to (everything is at LGB). No Emerald Aisle, and you have to interact with a human to get a car. While car selection is,limited due to this being a small location, I've never been even slightly unhappy with the handful of vehicles that are available (one Durango I got recently was totally loaded - heated mirrors and seats - admittedly not crucial in SoCal! - Sirius/XM,and navigatIon) and the staff are consistently happy and pleasant. I rented a Chevy Malibu during last year's Christmas week. I remembered that it was raining really hard that day. The lines at the check-in counter were long, and they seemed like they were a little understaffed at the front end. It wasn't that big of a deal until you realize that there are a few of their employees chatting away at the back room even though when the lines were long. The guy who helped me out was really nice. I resevered a Chevy Impala, but instead was given a new Chevy Malibu and I was really happy about it because it was a brand new car. I drove it up to Oregon, and I had much fun with it. + They gave a full tank of gas before I left the lot. :) The return experience was just awesome. All I did was dropped the car at the lot, and it literally took me only one minute and I was out of there heading back home. No troubles at all. read more
