This is the seventh circle of hell. First of all, the parking lot is SO dangerous - a blind, one lane, two-way entry/exit. Next, there was no one there when we arrived and a sign was posted "be back in 30 minutes or less" with no stated time. We went back 45 minutes later and STILL there was no one there. A few minutes later, TWO employees show up (why were they both gone at the same time??) and start working through the line of people who have been waiting outside, including an eighty year old woman and her family. They then state that they have no rentals available (maybe put that up on a sign so no one wastes their time). When it was our turn, it took over an hour to work through the rental process for insurance. The whole time, the branch manager is on the phone with insurance companies or other branches and the employee has questions and needs her help. I'm relieved they managed to come up with a car for us. They gave me a car someone had dropped off moments earlier, saying they needed to go clean it before renting it to me. When I stepped inside, it reeked of cigarette smoke. I asked if I could swap it because we have a baby who will be riding in the car but, you guessed it, that was the only car they had. I sit here in shock that what I thought would be a 5-minute errand wound up being our entire Friday afternoon, literally two hours from the time I arrived and no one was there until the time I left. read more

I rented a car with this place online. The posted times of opening werent correct but when I arrived someone was at the desk. the door was locked. He ran around, got in a car and drove towards me saying they were open, they would open in 20 mins. so I waited. 4 other people came, all customers. it's now 50 mins past the posted open time and I'm getting an uber to enterprize. I called customer service and they told me there was nothing they could do. Dont even try! read more

Absolutely unacceptable and disturbing behavior from the manager at this location. On June 12, 2025 at around noon time, my mother had one of the worst experiences she's ever had at a business. As she was gathering her things from the car, the man who claimed to be the manager came outside yelling and screaming over a parking spot. He berated her, called her stupid for leaving her car door open as she tried to gather her belongings, and continued his aggressive, threatening behavior even as she tried to cancel her reservation inside. Rather than diffusing the situation, he escalated it--following her outside, taking a photo of her car, and saying, "I'm taking a picture of her car 'cause I know what the internet can do." This is clearly intimidation, and it's completely unprofessional and unacceptable. No one should be treated this way, especially by someone in a position of management. I strongly urge others to reconsider before doing business at this location. read more

Worst experience I've ever had with a rental car company. My insurance booked a rental through them Monday evening, so I called when they opened at 8am on Tuesday. I spoke with Sandra, she told me she would have a midsize SUV for me at 10am. I arrived at 10:05am, the door was locked with a sign on it that said they were out of office assisting a customer and would be gone no longer than 30 minutes and left their number for immediate assistance. I called 5 times and no one answered. I waited until 10:50am, when Sandra finally came back to the office. She let me inside and took another call, so I had to wait another 10 minutes for her to get off the phone. Then she proceeded to tell me she had no appointment at 10am, I pulled up my confirmation number, but she said she would just look up my name. She then remembered speaking with me this morning, but told me she has no cars for me. She said she had one but gave it to another person at 9am because they were "ahead of me" in line. I asked her why she even told me to come at 10am then? She had no answer aside from she doesn't know what to tell me and that "[she] hopes [I] haven't been waiting since 10, she's been gone picking up another car since 9:30am". I said, yes, I've been waiting for an hour... because she told me to be here at 10. I even asked if I spoke to someone else on the phone because of how crazy the whole situation was. She said no, it was only her. She had 3 cars around back, but said they are all now reserved for Uber. She said she could give me an Lyft to Milford so I could get to work, and I could try calling Hertz Milford to see if they have a car in the afternoon, with no guarantee. Which means I would be stranded in Milford, 40 minutes from home, if they don't have a car. My insurance thankfully changed my reservation to Enterprise and they were INCREDIBLY helpful and respectful. Sandra later called me and told me she found me a "midsized" Elantra for me... which is a compact sedan, not a midsized SUV... like ??? DO NOT GO HERE, just go to Enterprise less than half a mile down the road. read more

I returned car 6 days ago, but I am getting a daily charge on my credit card. I called the local office 2 days ago, they said they would call me back, but didn't. I called cust. serv., they said contract was closed, but didn't say why I still get charged. They said they sent my info. back to local office, who still hasn't called me back. read more

I rented a car here while mine was being repaired. The staff was very friendly and the car I rented was in perfect condition. Their property is small so give yourself some extra time to check out in case they need to shuffle cars around, but they're as quick as they can be on a small lot. read more

Yes the parking lot is small but my ride to the location was able to drive in, turn around in their back lot, drop me off & leave with no problem. The service was excellent. The Mgr Joe was professional, courteous & is a good rep for Hertz. I got the car I wanted & was off within 30 mins. Transaction was expedited smoothly & the car was spotless. The return took almost no time at all. Just dropped the keys off & got my receipt. Again my ride for a pick up could turn around in their back lot & we exited with no problem. I definitely will rent from Hertz again, especially from this location. read more

Very limited selection of cars - I typically reserve a compact and the last three times have ended up getting an SUV instead because they don't have what I reserved on hand. I had to drive a Chevy Tahoe for a business meeting an hour away and spent $30 on gas. Not ideal. Also the teeniest parking lot in the back for drop-off and pickup, which isn't great, especially if you're unexpectedly driving a Tahoe. Not the friendliest people in the world - everyone is cordial, but not welcoming or overly helpful. Because of a AAA discount, this usually ends up being a few dollars cheaper than other car rental chains nearby. However, because the service and quality at the competitors' locations is better, I will be using them in the future. read more

I honestly wish I had read reviews here before renting. For the first time in years, I didn't use Enterprise because Hertz was offering a better weekly deal. HOWEVER, I will continue to use Enterprise. The gentlemen at the front desk were very kind and personable. It wasn't them that was an issue, it was the car alone. I was given a vehicle that caused me SO MUCH trouble! The remote for the car DIDNT have batteries. I couldn't unlock/lock the doors, I struggled pushing to start. It was awful. Eventually I was able to return the vehicle. I had asked if I would be accommodated due to the inconvenience all weekend and was told I could trade the car in. They traded the current rental, for a white toyota. Not much better. The car looked like it hadn't been vacuumed after being used. Nobody took photos of the vechile when they traded it out for me, so I did. I went to drop off the vechile today, and there was a note on the door that stated "be back @ 3 leave key at drop off box around back". I will update this when I see what they charge me. read more

The people working here weren't mean, but they weren't the friendliest. They didn't look very put together though. The parking lot is THE WORST parking lot in rental car history. We did get a free upgrade, but it was only because they said it was in the way and they needed to get it out of the lot. The car was great, brand new (the only reason I'm giving this more than one star) Trying to return it was a nightmare. There wasn't even an inch left in the lot to return it to. We had to call some phone number because it was a holiday and the location wasn't open (being closed wasn't the problem). They then gave us an address for another location to bring it to ‍. Following a car accident this past summer, I utilized Hertz for my rental car. The staff was okay, but the parking lot is a nightmare. My mother drove me here to pick up/return the car and we spent an inordinate amount of time trying to maneuver the lot. Considering that cars are constantly going in and out of that parking lot, they really need to work on this. I can't comment on the price (insurance covered it, so I didn't pay much attention), but the compact I was given was fine and the paperwork was quick and easy. read more

DO NOT RENT from this place!!! This is actually my second review in a year. My first experience was awful. This time we were renting a car to drive to NJ. I told my bf to avoid this place because of what happened last year, but he didn't listen, plus wanted the AAA discount. Well what do you know..the EXACT same thing happened. Driving to NJ and the light pops on and says "LOW OIL" ADD OIL. This exact thing happened last year on our trip down to Virginia Beach. When we called they specifically told me that "NO" they do not check the maintenance prior to renting car back out. He instructed us to stop and get an oil change or find a Hertz where I am and get a new car. Yeah that is exactly what I want to do on vacation, is spend my time getting an oil change. Called Hertz to rent a mid-sized SUV to pick up this afternoon. On arrival, they had barely shoveled the front entrance. It smelled like cigarettes inside. The representative barely spoke until he let me know that the only car he had that fit my needs was dirty and had an empty tank of gas. By the way it was only available because as I was waiting for him to register my info, another customer came in to return the vehicle and let him know the tank was empty. They gave me $25 off of a $600+ rental and said it would be a favor to me since I wouldn't need to fill the car up before I returned it. The car was filthy, smelled, and I had to pay $40 to fill the tank. The car also has warning lights on about needing an oil change so I'm hoping it doesn't die on me while I'm renting it for 2 weeks. The guy at the store told me that $25 off was "the best he could do." How about go and clean the car and fill up my gas tank before giving it to me like every other car rental place? Hertz does not care about its customers or about the status of their vehicles! read more

5 minutes ago I had called ahead of time and verified through AAA and talked to the location about a rental. They never said they were gonna run a credit check in order to rent a car, all they said is I need 2 forms of I'd with a debit card. I'm fully insured and was in a pinch needing a car for a couple days. When I got there they refused me getting a car after I had arranged a ride and left me high and dry standing outside. This is absolute awful business and they will never get my money ever. I'm even thinking of getting rid of my triple a card now because of this. Poor poor business read more

I had a reservation for 6pm. I verified at 4:30pm that they would still be there. A kid named Jason verified my reservation and said he would be there. Got dropped off, in the rain, and pulled on the door at 5:58pm...no Jason, no anybody. The doors were locked. I'm not very happy right now, tried to call and the mail box is full. My company dictates that I use Hertz, and I will be using it A Lot, guess I'm going to Hudson. I would give 0 if it was an option. Rented an SUV online from this location as I was transporting large items for work to a trade show. Called the day before to confirm the reservation and vehicle availability and was told by the manager that everything was all set. I arrived at the office next day and dealt with new staff member who was pleasant but told me they had 2 sedans left on the lot and that was all that was available. That would not work for me. She called the manager on the phone and they apologized but could not accommodate me and would refund my money (I had prepaid in full). I had to make alternate arrangements at the last minute which proved very difficult. This is a very small office with very limited space and low vehicle inventory. After my trade show I had to chase down my refund which had not been processed and the local office just referred me to a national billing center This office was very disappointing and I do not suggest doing business with them. My review gives Hertz Rent A Car in Marlborough, Ma. 0 stars. I rented a car in July through my Auto Insurance because mine was being repaired from an Auto Accident. I was told by a Hertz Representative that there would be a $50 charge as a hold. It is now the middle of September and I still have 4 debit card holds on my checking account totaling over $200. Kevin, the Manager told me it was my bank that puts holds on debit card holds. TD bank tell me that they don't do that but many people complain that Hertz does this, and puts lenghly holds on their accounts. I have been mislead and lied to and would never go to Hertz again. Reserved a little Ford Focus for a week... got there... no Focus. 'All we have is a Infiniti.' :-) Yeah, I'm good with that. Customer service was A+, pick-up and return. Car was absolutely immaculate inside and out, and just serviced for an oil change at Sullivan. I'm used to driving junk, so to be driving something so nice was a real treat. We were only using the car for hospital appointments in Boston, but still a treat for us. Needless to say, customer for life. HLE Marlborough is highly recommended. read more

I used to rent a car every 2 or 4 weeks to go to the consulate in NY and also when my brother comes to visit me from FL, we used to get very good deals, the stuff was very helpful and polite the way they talk and try to help. last time I got a car it was for an accident and I had to rent two days through the insurance in June 2014.. a week after I wanted to rent a car for 1 day , They told me that the old helpful manager left, the person who answered the phone was not even trying to help by any mean, the PRICES WERE SOOOOO HIGH.. I called the corporate and they gave me also high rates , and when I tried to ask why is it that high, the one who answered was very arrogant and didn't do her best at all as I used from HERTS before.. I'll go with Enterprise or Budget from now on till HERTZ go back on the good customer service track again. read more

Incompetent. I travel a lot for work, Hertz is our preferred vendor and we are encouraged to use rental cars when traveling long distances for work. I needed to leave for a work trip to PA early Monday morning. I often will ask for a drop off at the courtyard Marriott - I was told I needed to pay for the full weekend since they are closed during on Sunday and would need I drop the car off on Sat, I understand and said no problem. When I went to pick up the car Sunday night it was not there, this is after I confirmed the arrangement on Friday. So irritated. Spent over an hour on hold with hertz and the best they could offer me is a cancellation. Totally unreliable service and a complete waste of time. read more

Never EVER using this location again! Quite possibly the most unprofessional staff I have ever encountered in my life. For starters the KID I spoke with earlier in the day told me I needed nothing but my license and a credit card. I asked him about fees and he said insurance covered everything and I only needed a credit card on file- never stating that there would be an actual money hold. I get there and I'm told I needed to supply my card for a $50 hold. It's a debit card, I specifically asked about what I needed for the rental process. Hello! My car was just totaled! I'm broke as hell. So they were nice enough to wait for someone to deposit money for me since I have an autistic child and needed a vehicle after an accident to get him to his therapies and services. Again, the KID I spoke with earlier in the day assured I would have a SAFE vehicle large enough for a carseat and trunk space for a stroller since I would be using the car for a few weeks. They gave me a Yaris. Not a Yaris sedan that is slightly more acceptable. A flippin Yaris that my boyfriend could lift up and throw in the back of the truck he dropped me off in. There was a sticky can of soda in the holder- gross. At this point I had to take the stupid car in order to get home. Did my carseat fit? No. Was it voted the most unsafe vehicle on the road? Yes. I called the following morning to have them come get the car and the "manager" continued to cut me off when speaking. Talking over me. Thinking getting loud with me was going to get me to back down or something. Um NO not a chance at this point. Needless to say- they came and got the car an hour after they told me they were on their way: whatever. It's gone. I will never use their company again. Across the board rude. Oh and upon calling to make sure they lifted the hold on my $50 deposit the little snot proceeded to say "We did everything on our end so you don't need to call here again." FFS this girl was lucky I couldn't jump through the phone and correct her attitude. Kids running the place will always end up a joke. Worst experience ever... And I still have to deal with the headache of being rear ended after all this bogus drama. Enterprise matched the price of the Yaris and deposit (they normally charge $150 for insurance rentals) and they gave me a Dodge Avenger. Boom! read more
