    We had reservations at budget Rent-A-Car, which is part of the Hertz company. They had no cars and a long line of customers that needed cars. We had to wait over an hour and a half for a car. The counter folks were doing the best they can with irate and angry customers needing cars - all had reservations. Husband was very angry that we had to wait so long just for a car. I don't understand m, this happens every holiday (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, etc) you have a number of reservations, you have cars to fulfill or to project and still Hertz fall short as always!!!. Dissatisfied with everything that they do.

    Don't rent from Hertz ever, and especially not the Norfolk Airport location. My ten year old daughter and I waited 2.5 hours in line for our Tesla Model 3 that was booked four months in advance and checked in five hours earlier. We finally got to the front of the line at 11:05 on a Sunday night and they didn't have the car I reserved. She offered me a low-end SUV to replace the EV I reserved. Because nothing says fuel economy like a crappy SUV. I ended up with a disgusting, cigarette-smelling, body-damaged Honda Accord with vinyl seats. I was so tired by the time I got to the car that I just drove out with it. The woman at the counter told me to call the 1-800 number for Hertz to get a credit on my rental since the car I got was less expensive than the car I rented. I called and was told that Hertz "No longer takes phone calls about these issues" and that I needed to fill out a form to get a contact in 3-5 business days. The woman on the phone let me know that I could call a local Hertz to see if they had a replacement. I called the airport Hertz in Salisbury MD, but the phone number wasn't working. So I called the next one in Salisbury and was told that they don't have any cars. This is by far the worst customer service experience at a car rental place I have ever experienced. I'm gonna file a BBB complaint and any other options I can consider, but based on the reviews. I'm guessing Hertz just doesn't care.

    AVOID AT ALL COSTS!! I made reservations a month ago. When I got here, they said it would be 30 mins before I could get my car. Why? Why, if I told them a month ago I needed a car, do I have to wait at all? Well, here I sit, an hour in. They could have BUILT me a car by now! Hertz is trash. Do not bother. Your time is far more valuable. Too bad they dont see it that way.

    Well at least they are consistent. Horrible in every way. Again. For the fifth time. Understaffed, rude, slow and ran out of cars.

    It took us over an hour to get a car in Norfolk. All others were waiting too. This was a horrible experience.

    Very unorganized for Hertz. As a Gold member I had to wait 20 min while they found a car even though I made a reservation weeks ago.

So, when I got here and learned I needed to go to a counter, but they had a large fleet of cars and this was a larger airport, I wasn't too happy. But the service was very nice. I prefer to look through vehicles rather than having them select for me. In this case, I have top tier status with National and the guy before me with non status (comment was made about it being first time with National) was offered an "upgrade" and given a vehicle I would have chosen from the Executive Emerald Isle. When I get there, I'm offered a Mitsubishi Eclipse. I immediately said "No!" It took him about 5 minutes, but he found me a mid-size SUV, which is all I wanted. They should reserve the "upgrades" (if that was truly an upgrade the previous guy got) for those of us who rent on such a regular basis we're truly entitled to them based on our status. Then when I went to get the vehicle and noticed the size of their fleet, I realized there's no reason this location doesn't offer the Emerald Isle. I rent from many larger airports as well and many many tiny airports and understand why they need to do counter service versus the Emerald Isle, this location shouldn't have counter service. All that being said, the car was great. The service was fine. And I was out pretty quickly. As for National's customer service, one of the most annoying things is when I write a mediocre review like this they post this typical response: "...we would like to know more about your experience. Please visit www.nationalcar.com/en/support/contact-us.html to contact us. Please be ready to provide the rental location, rental agreement or reservation number and your contact information. Thank you." But they make it nearly impossible to contact them, so it's very insincere. If you want to reach out to me, PM me on this site, rather than posting these canned replies.

Here, you have to go to the counter, present all the same info they already have, they had no cars, so they gave me some Mazda suv. Filled out the documentation got the keys and then drove off. Drop off was fine.

What Avis did to me over the past two days wasn't just bad service -- it was dishonest, careless, and emotionally devastating. I am a disabled veteran, and because of their incompetence, lies, and refusal to do the right thing, I missed the funeral of one of my closest friends. Here's exactly what happened: I made a reservation for October 1st at 2:00 PM at the airport location. Before I even arrived, Avis had already charged my card for the full amount of the reservation . So when I got there, I was completely blindsided when they suddenly told me I needed to present a credit card to get the car. The only reason I was blindsided is because they had already taken my money -- they were happy to charge me first, but had no problem giving me it back especially after the full amount was already charged and enough on the card for a deposit. Then, the staff told me they can't help and to call the reservation line where they told me another location had another car waiting for me and that they would change my reservation for me . I did not cancel anything -- they changed it themselves and promised I'd be taken care of. Trusting them, I spent money on Uber rides to get to the second location. When I arrived, I found out it was a blatant lie -- there was no car waiting for me, they were actually completely out of cars and this is not even 20 min after getting off the phone with the reservation line. And no one cared. Instead of helping or taking responsibility, they shrugged it off and told me to come back the next morning with my debit card with 300 dollars deposit , assuring me that if I showed up at 8:00 AM, when the store is supposed to open, my car would be ready and waiting. So, I did exactly what they told me. I showed up at 8:00 AM sharp the next morning, expecting my confirmed reservation to finally be honored. But when I got there, the location wasn't even open yet. I had to stand outside and wait for someone to finally show up. When they did, I was told -- yet again -- that there were no cars available, the only option they gave me was wait until someone drops off a car. I waited, still holding onto hope that someone would make this right. After all that waiting and a vehicle finally showed, during check out and running my card AGAIN for a reservation they finally told me I couldn't rent a car at all because I didn't pass a credit check -- a credit check that was never mentioned to me at any point during this entire ordeal. I brought everything that I was told required. By that point, Avis was holding hundreds of dollars of my money, and when I asked for my funds back so I could try to book a last-minute flight or another rental elsewhere, they flat-out refused. I was told I'd have to wait 5-7 business days to get MY OWN MONEY back. I didn't have enough left in my account to make a third reservation or buy a plane ticket. I was stranded. Because of their lies, lack of communication, refusal to return my money, and total mismanagement, I missed my best friend's funeral. That is something I will never get back. Two full days wasted. Hundreds of dollars tied up. Multiple Uber trips paid out of pocket. Hours spent waiting, being misled, and emotionally crushed. Avis didn't just inconvenience me -- they caused real harm at one of the most difficult times of my life. This company is an absolute disgrace. Their management is incompetent, their communication is nonexistent, and their customer service is cold and indifferent. If you're reading this, do not trust Avis with anything important. They'll happily take your money in seconds, lie to your face, and then leave you stranded while they hold onto your funds for a week. Avis didn't just ruin a trip -- they robbed me of the chance to say goodbye to my friend. I will never forget this.

I'm thinking a 7am pick up almost guarantees you a car since that's when they open. Customer service was beyond lacking. I got there around 6:50 and saw employees in the back. I stood in line and know they saw me. Without saying anything (even "hey, we open at 7. Be with you then.), one employee closed the door. It doesn't make you invisible. I know you're in there. At 7:01, the employee comes out and proceeds to start up the screen. There was another customer in front of me and then it was my turn. The only words spoken were commands to get through the rental process. Then I'm handed keys and a location (A-##) and left alone. What does A-## mean? How do I get there? No more information to spare, I start walking and eventually figure it out. Non-existent customer service, rude, and unhelpful. I see why this location has difficulties with satisfying their customers. I gave 2-stars because I did get the vehicle I reserved quickly, which is more than it seems most customers get. ‍

I was only in town (Norfolk, VA) for a few hours. Picked up the car at 1538pm and returned the next morning at 0500 for my 0700 flight. I was charged $255 as they stated this short amount of time was equivalent to two days charges at $100+ dollars a day. I would NEVER rent a car for that much per day and I travel all over the world! I verified at the check-in counter that my miles had taken care of my one day rental and that I was good to go. So being charged outside of my miles, which I also lost, and for TWO days (and I had the car less than 24hrs) is absolutely ridiculous. Also, I used a lot of my points to reserve an SUV, but upon arrival, they didn't have any so I had to settle for a smaller sedan. I will surely let ANY and EVERYONE know to never use Dollar/Hertz for their rental cars again!

I was in a pickle and needed a vehicle so I signed a good deal but was lied to on additional discounts I was eligible for even when I showed them the discounts. 1. $1000 buyer down payment assistance not honored 2. I was charged $899 for the Banister Lifetime Warranty which is supposed to be no charge to customer 3. I showed an email and text showing $2500 over KBB for trade, they didn't honor it! None of this was honored, none. I didn't raise a stink because I thought I was getting a good deal yet I was actually told false information. Now, I know it was false and contacted them, to date no reply, nothing at all...crickets! I am highly disappointed in Banister. This is my fifth purchase from Banister, four from Chesapeake and one from Norfolk. This will be my last and will no longer recommend them.
