This is the most BS car rental place ever! I rented a car using my miles from American Airlines and was told that a $200 hold would be placed on my card for the car. I was only in town (Norfolk, VA) for a few hours. Picked up the car at 1538pm and returned the next morning at 0500 for my 0700 flight. I was charged $255 as they stated this short amount of time was equivalent to two days charges at $100+ dollars a day. I would NEVER rent a car for that much per day and I travel all over the world! I verified at the check-in counter that my miles had taken care of my one day rental and that I was good to go. So being charged outside of my miles, which I also lost, and for TWO days (and I had the car less than 24hrs) is absolutely ridiculous. Also, I used a lot of my points to reserve an SUV, but upon arrival, they didn't have any so I had to settle for a smaller sedan. I will surely let ANY and EVERYONE know to never use Dollar/Hertz for their rental cars again! read more

Its truly a shame that all of the reviews are saying the same thing. Logistically they are failing. Like everyone else I had a reservation for my vehicle and ended up waiting 2 hours before I was handed the keys to my rental. The employees are in a tough situation, they are the face and unfortunately have to hear it from all of the customers that are just standing around waiting to get their rental vehicle. So I cant blame them that they're frustrated as well. Dollar needs to make a change or simply don't reserve vehicles that they don't have! Until Dollar Rent a Car in the airport makes some serious changes, I'd recommend a different rental company or not use this airport location. read more

Our car had a flat tire an hour and a half north of airport. We went to change the tire, but there was no spare! I called Dollar's emergency roadside service, they said they would tow car back to airport and provide a Lyft to our destination. They did not tell us they would charge us for this, but we received a bill for hundreds of $ because they said that we declined roadside assistance coverage. We wouldn't have needed roadside coverage if they had provided a spare! read more

There are some serious logistic problems going on here. First and foremost, the customer service is being run entirely by Hertz, which is a huge problem when not disclosed. We were traveling to Norfolk, so were unable to get in contact with this specific location since the location itself isn't being staffed. When we did arrive, we realized why the phone rang forever without being picked up. We were directed to Hertz, where customer service was bluntly awful. All three ladies working the desk were cold, short and unbearably unfriendly. I personally had no specific negative altercation, but while I waited an hour and a half for my car, got to witness their rudeness again and again. About the wait... every single person waiting for their rental was quoted about 30 minutes until their car was ready. In my many years of renting cars, never have I seen this. More and more people stood around waiting for their rentals while almost nobody was actually getting into any. Chaos was ensuing. I was called for my rental after about an hour and 15 minutes (originally told 20-30 minutes) and was just happy to finally leave. Cheap car rental and that's the same service you pay for. Came in late and notified them to hold our vehicle. When we got in they stated they only had electric, but then stated one just came in... sounded like they were trying to get rid of their EV stock. The vehicle itself was not clean, had weird stains and smells, and we even had to throw out trash from the last users... absolutely terrible. Also after a secondary inspection after we got settled in, we noticed that one of the tires had a screw sticking out and was there for a while as there was discoloration around the puncture. Unsanitary car along with a major safety violation. After we traded the car in, it was mostly smooth driving after that which is why the rating is 2/5 instead of 1/5. read more

This review is for an early morning rental pick up. I didn't read the reviews until after I reserved a car and was worried I wouldn't have a car to pickup. I'm thinking a 7am pick up almost guarantees you a car since that's when they open. Customer service was beyond lacking. I got there around 6:50 and saw employees in the back. I stood in line and know they saw me. Without saying anything (even "hey, we open at 7. Be with you then.), one employee closed the door. It doesn't make you invisible. I know you're in there. At 7:01, the employee comes out and proceeds to start up the screen. There was another customer in front of me and then it was my turn. The only words spoken were commands to get through the rental process. Then I'm handed keys and a location (A-##) and left alone. What does A-## mean? How do I get there? No more information to spare, I start walking and eventually figure it out. Non-existent customer service, rude, and unhelpful. It's a criminal organization. They overcharged for several days use AFTER I turned the car in. Based on others I have talked to they do this to almost everyone. Norfolk VA airport. Worst experience. Waited in line for 2 hours and took first available car. It was electric and only had 15 minutes of charge. Needed to return to the counter and wait until another car became available. They had combined a couple rental car companies together, but added no extra staff. They couldn't process and clean cars fast enough. I was given an upcharge for the electric car, but it was never refunded when I finally got a gas car. Horrible rental car experience! Upon arriving the dollar rental car counter, it was empty with a sign saying go to Hertz. No explanation, it just said go to Hertz. Upon turning to my left, looking over my shoulder I saw a line half way down the airport terminal. This was the Hertz line and I was in informed that Dollar line was now a part of this line. Two and a half hours later I was leaving the airport in the rental car that was set up through Dollar Car Rental.
