The only terrible experience I've had in 30 years renting from HERTZ and manager HAROLD MOYA. I rented a KIA EV 6 from the Schenectady Ny location they rented me the car with 2 rear tires with the steel cords exposed all around without checking vehicle condition before renting to me, I had 2 blowouts in 1 week because of poor tires I have pictures and an apology letter from Corporate. Drove the car not knowing the tires had steel cords exposed after 3 days had a blowout on the NYS thruway. Had to get it towed to a hertz vendor, PEP boys in colonie. Manager had car on lift and informed me other rear tire totally shot on the inner part steel cords also exposed. He told me car had wrong brand of tires on car it should have had EV tires (Continental brand) and they had the cheapest regular $150 tires on it. He also told me it needed an alignment. I had to pay out of pocket for the tow and tire at 1st. So next day I drove car to hertz and told them what happened. They acted like no big deal EV tires wear fast SMH. Car had 9500 miles on it, but I told them manager of pep boys told me car needed alignment and proper tires. Manager sent me to Firestone wolf rd. They put cheapest tire on vehicle Thursday and car had ANOTHER blow out Saturday night. Another tow and when I tried to talk to HERTZ MANAGER Harold Mara about the situation, he would not call me back after I left numerous messages. After 5 days, I contacted corporate and after they investigated through pictures, receipts and talks with tire shops, CORPORATE refunded me for tire and tow. CUSTOMER SERVICE IN SCHENECTADY WAS AWFUL. Harold Mara and the heavy set female where the WORST ever! HARILD MOYA HIDES BEHIND HIS OFFICE DESK NO BACKBONE AT ALL. The only reason things didn't escalate further on my end is HERTZ CORPORATE SAVED YOUR ASS HOPEFULLY THE NEXT COMPLAINT YOURE BACK FLIPPING BURGERS AT 5 GUYS. You are definitely not management material, you're a coward. Receipts are only for 1 tow and 1 tire, the other tow and other tire HERTZ covered . 2 TOWS AND 2 Tires in Less than 2 weeks cause HERTZ SCHENECTADY REFUSED TO PUT PROPER TIRES AND ALIGNMENT , and AGAIN, They rented me the vehicle with 2 BAD tires with inner steel cords exposed for both blowouts. Should be ashamed of themselves and not giving a F when it happened both times! No refund for rental, only reimbursed for 1st tow and 1 tire from CORPORATE. read more

Avoid this place at all costs! Inside is dirty, parking lot is full of potholes and I was charged for 2 days despite being promised that I'd only be charged for 1 if I returned my car by a certain time. When I returned the vehicle, door was locked with a sign saying there was a car delivery in progress. When the employee returned, she had a plastic bag in her hand clearly full of styrofoam lunch containers. When processing my return, I felt like I was disturbing/bothering her. To top it off, I had to show my gas receipt when she claimed I didn't fill the gas tank. She also accused me of putting 3k miles on the car when I had put on less than 500. An absolute nightmare of an experience. Enterprise down the road is 100 times better. read more

The 2 stars given are for Shae (local) and Eric from billing's customer service. The 3 missing stars are for the manager Harold's lack thereof. PLEASE NOTE: if you're doing an after hours drop off you need to take a picture of the car in the lot and the odometer; a video of you putting the keys in the drop-box; ask other renters waiting for Ubers (or are they vagabonds hanging out waiting for their pizza next door or the bus nearby? You'll know when you get knifed for talking to strangers in "the neck") to move out the way so you can check the door for notes from Harold. If you find instructions you may need to email Harold (and I'd suggest corporate to avoid any of Harold after hour shady tactics) all these pieces of proof (assuming you weren't shanked) so he can know for SURE you dropped the car off when you said you did. Here's an idea, if you don't trust your clients or are worried about a few hours of lost rental fees -- don't offer after-hours drop-offs in the first place or post the instructions ON THE DROP BOX itself in BOLD FONT and COLOR. But definitely don't ask single women to be unnecessarily asking strange men, strange questions to search for Harold instructions on doors in the ghetto-adjacent so he can make sure he isn't owed $100. Hertz corporate - when a young woman gets assaulted out here one Sunday evening - don't say you weren't warned. read more

My experience with Hertz has been average when compared to Enterprise or other comparable car services, but this location is one to avoid if you travel for work like myself. When you're traveling for work, or even renting a car for a family vacation, you'd probably expect to get a reliable, safe car.. Especially after watching their agent inspect the car before you get in it to drive. Last month when traveling out of state for work, I get on the highway after picking up my car and notice that the tire pressure lights are blinking...I have a far drive & I'm not familiar with the car, so I pull over to check since I'd prefer not having a blinking tire pressure gauge starring at me the whole trip. So now I'm pulling off the highway, and using my GPS to find a gas station so i can put air in my tires. Not only was it a 30 minute detour to refill all 4 tires, but I had to spend additional money (albeit not much) for something that I'd assume should have been included with my car rental. With so many options for car rental services, I would not recommend a place that can't provide safe and ready cars. Would you want to do a 30 minute detour to start your work trip or family vacation? The icing on the cake was the response from the agent the next day when I returned the car and told him about this unfortunate experience. "Oh!" "You should have just brought it back here and we would have filled it up for you!" ........... I mean, it took everything in my power to just nod my head and ask for a receipt. How about you have the car tires ready to go on all your rental cars, and not leave it up to someone who's already miles down the road on the thruway, having to turn around and come back to fill the tires up. Which, I frankly didn't have time for as I'm traveling for business. Needless, all my travel for 2018 is being booked elsewhere, and unless you have time to spare, I'd suggest you do the same. read more

Please be careful of this place! If I could give 0 stars I would! They accessed my account 5 different times with one failed attempt! Then charged me a $300 smoke damage fee I have not smoked any Tobacco products since June 1,2008, I am cancer free! This is a deplorable place to do business and smack dab in the middle of a poverty stricken neighborhood! Taking advantage of those people! Can you give zero starts?? I've rented at least 50 cars from this location and never had an issue until recently, I noticed a staff change and these people are so unhelpful it's ludacris. My fiance needed a long term rental that was covered by insurance because of an accident that he was not at fault for which was covered by insurance. For starts the car ( Chevy Malibu) was not safe, the brakes were bad and the car had no power, he had it for a month, we go to return the vehicle and they said there's a charge for 80$ tax, we explained to the guy this rental is covered by insurance there should be no charge, he had no idea how to fix it and his counter part came over and told us they could not remove the charge and that if insurance would cover it they would take care of it. Ok fine, we proceed to get another rental, we're gold members mind you and this process in the past has never taken more than 20 minutes. This new guy had us at the desk for 45 minutes, he was having a hard time with the reservation and whatever credit card he had attached to the account, he was telling us it was declined and we had to call the credit card company to get the charge approved because your company's address is in another state, this was not the case, his counter part came over once again and I asked her, does the credit card we're giving you right now to pay match the one online and it did not, and he swiped the card and there was no issue, but the guy made us feel like he thought we didn't have enough money to pay, he clearly pre judged us. Then we get the car, Nissan versa and this car was worse than the first, the smell was that of 1000 dead people, fine whatever we drive it and couldn't keep it the whole time the smell was awful so we return the car a day early and we asked for a credit since it was returned early and the car smelled bad and instead of being helpful she got defensive and told us we'd be charged for the entire time. When we asked for a credit because of the awful smell she rudely replied how are we supposed to know if you don't tell us. We were telling you and giving you every opportunity to make it right and you didn't, so now we take our business ( which is a healthy one) elsewhere and I suggest the same to anyone who needs to rent a car, go to Enterprise on Central Ave, they are much more professional. read more

A couple Saturdays ago my fiance got in a car accident with our Ford Focus and after filing a claim with our insurance company, they recommended Hertz as one of the car rental places they they work with. As luck would have it, this particular location is right down the street from our Car Service repair shop. I have to tell you, I was super impressed with the customer service of Jordan. He was really accommodating. He explained the process from front to back of how much of a deposit would be held, and what the estimate cost would be for the length I would need the rental while my car was being repaired. The driver was also very pleasant. Held great conversation from the short drive from the auto body shop to the rental place. However, I do have to say it was a very, very cold day and the driver did not have the heat on in the vehicle, so we slightly froze for a few minutes. After filing out the necessary paperwork, my fiance and I drove off in the car we were picked up in, which was a 216 Nissan Versa. After having that rental for about 2 weeks, we did notice the heat was not very warm in this particular vehicle, not enough to make a stink about, but just a word to the wise, this particular car takes quite some time to warm up, so plan accordingly. Otherwise, it was a breeze to drive. We got our car back on a saturday, early after noon right before the Hertz location was to close. Our repair shop advised us that we may leave the vehicle there to be picked up by one of Hertz employees either that day or the following monday. Since the shop and the rental place were less than a couple blocks away, I did peek my head in the inquire about what fee would be charged to my card. The gentleman said that being they were about to close up, they wouldn't be able to take a look at the rental until Monday and they would just charge my card on file which was fine with me. I did see a charge this morning on my account and gave a call to just verify if that would be the only charge as it was such a small amount and spoke with Jordan who was very helpful in explaining that y deposit held covered the cost of the rental and the remainder was charged this morning to my card. This was a very pleasant experience and I am very grateful for the wonderful customer service! read more
