I understand that people's experience and expectations may vary, but I was surprised to read so many negative reviews about this particular Hertz Car Rental location. In spite of this, I decided to try it out anyway and rent a car from them for a 4-day family road trip, thinking "how bad can it really be?". Well, wanting to be as fair a customer as possible, I'm happy to report my experience with them was excellent. The staff there was attentive, efficient and extremely courteous. The process was fast, the price extremely competitive, and all went without any issue. I really cannot fault them for anything, except maybe that the car they lent me could have been a bit cleaner inside and out (but I'm a clean freak, so that's on me - no one else in my party complained about it). On the plus side, the tank was full from the get-go. Nice. Regarding the car itself, it was great: I was given the choice between several full-size SUV's, and I ended up picking a 2020 Infiniti QX60 for the road trip. What a great ride! read more

Do NOT rent from this location. Staff is extremely rude, unprofessional and shady. I rented a vehicle in which was faulty and was unable to utilize. Unfortunately I picked it up for usage just before the office closed for the day and so my only option for help was the 24 hour roadside assistance, however it took over 2 hours for an answer to my phone calls. They provided a tow that also took hours to arrive. It was 3:36am to be precise. I called to ask for a refund of my rental as I was unable to utilize it in which I was notified that the vehicle was missing and never arrived to tow location and that I was being charged until it was found. For days I have been trying to track down vehicle. I found it had been placed in storage as the tow was given wrong address for drop off. I did not give the wrong address, Hertz 24 hour roadside assistance did. Something this location could have found out. Instead they lied and said they had no notification of tow in first place. They refused to take information as to where vehicle was located and said they would not close my rental out until it was returned to location. I again tried to tell them where the vehicle was. They said it was above their pay grade to contact tow company (their tow company!) In the course of the day I was hung up on 4 times by this thousand oaks location, including when I asked to speak to their supervisor. They then would answer and hang up immediately when seeing my phone number. To deny helping customer resolve issue with something I had no control of is ridiculous. Billing and customer service both referred me back to the location to resolve yet the location continued to refuse to speak to me in regards and hung up on me. I was not rude, yet was treated extremely poorly. This is a money grab. Charging customers for additional days when they know where the vehicle is and how to get it but refusing and reporting no knowledge. Hanging up on customer is not no knowledge, it is refusal and corruption. I also had purchased the "insurance" yet had zero help in closing out something I had nothing to do with. The only way I knew the vehicle did not arrive at hertz facility from tow was because I saw over $400 additional in charges to my credit card along with the deposit that was never returned. Nobody from TO location bothered to contact me, just kept charging my card. MONEY GRAB. Shame on them and rude employees that need fired. Please corporate listen to the recorded phone calls and hear how unprofessional and rude your employees are at the thousand oaks location. Online will let you reserve cars that are not available, they will call you to tell you the one you reserved isn't available and tell you you can pick from. When you show up they will put you in anything and not let you choose. Went for a Tesla they tried to give me a Kia soul. Not good business. this place is horrible!! i rented a car from here and they stole there own vehicle while i was in contract with it with a back up key!!!! then filed a stolen vehicle report!!! the day after i spoke with customer service on the phone and they agreed to extendtion of the rental for another 7 days. the customer service on the phone that i spoke too obviously didnt notify the actual hertz that i extended. there was also $ 366.00 that was pending in my back account at that time that they finally took out like a week later!! i was arrested a few days later during the middle of that extention at work!!! yes at work!!!! like wt actual fuck is that???? i bailed out 2 days later called hertz, the kid that answered phone didnt know anything about it. said sorry... wtf... sorry???? 1. left me stranded at work 2. was arrested few days later 3. took my money even though they came to get vehicle early 4. cisted me 800$ cash to bailout of jail 5. $105.00 u er ride to court 6. got fired due to nature of pending charges. Oh my gosh! Just don't. My car dealer requested a small car for me on Monday, confirmed they'd have it on Wednesday and when I was dropped off, by the shuttle, at Hertz on Thursday... no car. I immediately call the car dealership. They say they'll await Joey's call with a solution. Joey told me it was because some customers decided to keep their rentals and they were in Lancaster (no idea why we're discussing this part) but they may have cars in a few hours... maybe. He says he has 1 car in the lot and shows me a HUGE something-er-another (like a Suburban) and I explain I can't drive such a large car. Then he asks if he should call around to which I answered "yes!" He goes in the back and makes a call and stays back there. Another customer enters Hertz to find his car is not available either. They tell him there's been a recall on his model. Something about steering wheels coming off and says they'll check for another car. While he's waiting I tell him the story they gave me. His rental guy comes back and says they have an electric car he can take. He doesn't want an electric car and asks about where he can charge it. He says he sees the car he wants in the parking lot and the Hertz man tells him it's reserved for their "upper level customer". Seriously?! I would have freaked out by then but he decides to take the electric car. It all seems a bit confusing... where he can charge it and not. (Such a nice guy! He offers to drive me to my car. Thanks!!!) Anyway, Joey is still hiding in the back. Never comes with an update so I go to find him. He's absolutely no help. He "can't find a car anywhere". I tell him I'm very upset and he says, "I offered you a car and you turned it down". He repeats himself a couple times and I decide to leave. He also offers me a ride back to the dealership but I'm so angry, I don't want to be in the car with him. I walked to Enterprise and they say they get a lot of customers from that Hertz. They never have cars and the ones they have are electric because Hertz has a deal with Tesla. Thankfully, Enterprise has plenty of cars and I'm finally back on the road in a matter of minutes. Thanks to Sean (sp) and Diego at Enterprise. On a side note... we had a reservation for an upcoming trip booked with Hertz and we're going to cancel and reschedule with Enterprise. Some of the staff do try, but Hertz has left them understaffed with poor resources and outdated technology which makes doing anything out of this location in particular, a painful process. I'm a Gold member, courtesy of the Fortune 500 company I work for & there are many of my colleagues who are pushing our corporation to change our rental car provider as Hertz has fallen very far in service and quality. I've now had similar experiences at the Las Vegas airport location, SeaTac and Hawaii. The cars are rarely clean when you pick them up, and many are in some stare of disrepair, (eg. wiper blades need replacing, AC is broken, brakes are squealing...etc.) all issues I've had and reported in my Hertz rental cars just in the last year, across several rentals., two from this Thousand Oaks location. read more

While the people were very friendly at the counter, we waited an hour to get service in spite of having a timed reservation. After driving a day and a half, in the middle of a remote area of Arizona, the change oil light came on. We are now in New Mexico getting the oil changed and we're told ALL the fluids are low and the tires only have about 1500 miles left on them (my husband had noticed they were not wearing evenly). Tried calling Hertz, both national number and local in Albuquerque, and no one answered the phones. Hoping to change cars as we still have 19 days on the rental car and are driving across the country. Not sure what has happened to Hertz customer service and checking to make sure their cars are road safe before renting them. read more

This office has a Laurel & Hardy team. Skinny guy, professional -- large guy, nice but very hairy and disheveled. Still, for a satellite office, it's not bad at all. Local, if that's your needs, is convenient as heck not to deal with the airport type. Pickup is a little rinky-dink, but dropoff is more than amazing to pull right in, note your mileage and gas, and drop your key (even if after hours, they is a key mailslot at the door). The office is fugly, on the outside, but very nice and newish on the in. Don't expect Gold service here with the awesome digital board with your name on it. Instead, there's a little side desk for Gold that's left unattended. I still had to wait in line (albeit for only 5 mins), give my name, and get my key and packet. read more

Went to pick up car, had a pre-arranged reservation, and upon arriving, was told that they had the car, but was $100 dollars more than we reserved it for... EVEN though our reservation clearly showed taxes and fees included in our price!!! Our GRAND total was on the reservation!! It was through a reputable company ( Orbitz) reserved at HERTZ. It was a scam and bait & switch, because Hertz would not give us the car, unless we paid them 100 more!!! The rental person we dealt with (Paul) was rude, aggressive and refused to help us- stating that this is what we get going through a 3rd party? Even though it was an agreement between Hertz and Orbitz! I will take this further as Hertz was unethical, and tried to scam us for more!! $100 more!!!! If I could give this business zero stars I would. We were running late with our travel by a couple hours and called this local branch to let them know. The employee said that's fine and said he had just rented out our vehicle but he could give me something comparable and he would set that aside. I told him I would be there in 45 minutes and he said that was fine and then I got a ride to the rental car place. When I arrived, the owner was rude saying it was very close to their 5 o'clock closing time. Of course I was surprised to be greeted in this manner by a business. I commented that I had told her employee what time we would be there and he never said anything about that being too close to closing time. she said "He is new and doesn't know what he's doing" as if that's my fault. Then she told me that they had also rented the car that he set aside for me and it was my fault because I was late. I said well I called ahead and he said he was holding the car and now I've come all the way out here and you're telling me there's no car. She then rudely said she could overcharge me for a larger vehicle but I would have two minutes to decide because she needs to go hang out with her son who is in town! Called 2-3 times and both times they said shuttle was coming...IT NEVER CAME! Finally got to the shop via not their shuttle and was greeted with very unfriendly and unhelpful service. Terrible customer service. Insurance arranged a car and when I arrived to pickup, there were no cars available. Waited 3 hours and had to take only car available that happened to be returned. Car was delivered filthy. I had to go to carwash myself and pay as I was embarrassed to drive. A few days later, I needed a code as car slipped into valet mode. I called local office but they had a voicemail tree with a never ending loop with no options to assist. Finally got a live person who said the only option was to connect to road service. She transferred me only to sit on hold my entire drive home for 1.5 hours and nobody ever answered. While during operating hours and checking people in they actually disconnected their phone lines so they wouldn't have to answer the incoming calls, already a very bad sign. I get it was busy and there was a line but super unprofessional, then there was just attitude when it got to the point that I got the the front of the line so after all of that and then being told it would require an extra $500 deposit and a soft credit check because I was using a debit card I ended up just cancelling my rental and walking out. This location/company steals from customers. Came in for an insurance rental and my card was charged $150. The manager Joey blamed a manager from a different location. Apparently it was the only car on the lot and the charge is for an 'upgrade fee'. I was never informed that the Volkswagen Atlas was an upgrade or that I would be charged $150. I also really appreciate being given an 'upgraded' gas guzzling car with no gas in it!!! I called corporate office, their system has the car charge marked for damages. I was told an internal investigation would take less than 2 weeks and it usually goes based off what the location has marked. 2 months later and a few calls to corporate and the issue has still not been resolved. Apparently in 3 business days, a super special investigation team will reach out; still waiting. read more

I have been there many times and it is always "really dirty", it looks like they haven't cleaned in a long time, it is disgusting and not a good impression for the customers. I can't believe that the employees work in a place like that. I went early this morning with my husband to pick up a car and the floor was dirty and the place had an unpleasant smell... Rented from this establishment two different times in the span of a month and overall they were okay. I reserved the vehicles in advance online both times with pre-payment online (NOTE: no refunds are given should you return a day early since it's already paid). The overall service from when I was helped to when I sat in the rental car was pretty quick. The only downside of both visits was that there were only two people working both times and a couple people in the backchat chatting. Because it was close to closing time, there was a line of 5 people ahead of me one time and it took more than 30 minutes just to get to me. Few notes from my experience: 1) They offer drop off service and when they're too busy, they will pay for you Lyft ride. 2) They now use iPhones to document pre-existing scratches and bumps on your rental by taking photos. BE SURE TO INSPECT FOR YOURSELF. There were a couple scratches/dings that the employee didn't see that I did. read more

Just awful. I've rented from many rental companies in many different locations. This was by far the worst. I made a reservation over a week earlier to get a van for a birthday party. Not only did they not have my car ready for me, but the one they finally gave me after I had to badger the manager was not clean and actually had a spare tire on it. Yes, a spare tire. I have never, ever, rented a vehicle that didn't have 4 fully functional tires. This Hertz location took car rental experiences to a whole new low, failing on every possible level. When i first picked up the car my experience with the customer service rep was average. He never introduced himself nor did he ask how my party or I were doing. He basically just ran the information for billing and wanted me out. No personality at all. He didn't even smile and honestly little things and gestures like this provide a comfy and happy environment. I had been informed that i would get a rio but ended up with a ford focus no extra charge. The car had trouble going up hill. But it eas clean and nice and comfy. 4 cylinder so for me it was a huge relief since i try a v8 The return was the best experience and that is why i am giving them four stars. Extremely disappointed with Hertz. We booked a large SUV rental for 3 days, but we were pro-rated for 4 days. Note: this was not the same pro-rate we saw when reserving the vehicle. Upon receiving the keys from the clerk, I noticed the incorrect prorated amount on the receipt. I mentioned this to him and said that it was incorrect, but he assured me that it was a prorated amount. He stated that if I returned the vehicle before they closed at 6pm, I would only be charged for 3 days. I was not surprised to find just a few days later that my credit card was charged the full amount of $625. I followed up with a phone call to their support services, and was assured I would receive a refund of $109 within a week. Two weeks went by, and nothing happened on my bank statement. I was SHOCKED when I called back and they stated that the "refund was deemed invalid". They literally closed the ticket without telling me I would not be refunded. I called back, and was told a manager would reach out to settle this. No call back from said manager. So I called back a 3rd time, and the gentleman was very nice on the phone. He said it was a huge mistake, and stated I would receive a refund with 5 business days. He even gave me the ticket for the case assuring me the refund would go through. Nope. No refund! I'll never use Hertz again, unless they would like to settle this in a professional manner. Bonus points: The car WREAKED of smoke. read more

Worst experience with a rental car company ever. From beginning to end (no final invoice supplied) . I was told twice I would receive an email with all my details and confirmation. It was never received. Ridiculous. Now I have written a note to customer service asking for a copy and they sent me someone else's invoice. I was recently involved in a hit and run...at a stop light. I was hit and he ran (after telling me he would take care of the damages). Long story short I needed a car and State Farm insurance utilized Hertz. From the repair shop to get an estimate to Hertz shuttle to their location, the whole process took a very short time and I was driving away in this (Dodge Challenger)! Everyone at Hertz were friendly, professional and accommodating...and within minutes I was driving home. A few days later, I was informed that the insurance company totaled my car. I cried. But not for long as I cruised along in the Challenger until I found a new car! I returned the rental...easy as it was picking it up! I never paid attention to the multiple Hertz locations they have around and do you know what? If I ever need to rent one, reimbursed by an insurance company or not...Hertz is the place! Rented a car to take to the airport, appointment for 10:00am, called and said I would be a couple hours late. They rented my car to someone else, told me they never received my call, had no car for me, and I should wait a few hours for someone to return a car. If you ever have to rent a car and expect to get a car that you think your rented, DO NOT CALL HERTZ COMPANY!!!.
